[Q] can i use rooted stock rom to update jb - HTC One X

i have stock rooted backup rom. i cant install jb update. is it becoz of rooted?? if yes how can i unroot?

Good question, i also would like to know this. im in ICS ARHD

Rooted doesn't matter. As long as it's a stock ROM for your CID, all you need to do is flash the stock RECOVERY and kernel and you're good to go.

As far as i know you need to unroot it too, its a system change that will not allow to update ......
But you could try....then we all know it for sure

Actually root doesn't matter in the matter of getting OTAs. Updating through OTA will just remove root, and you can just root it again after that. Same method with ICS

Same like mine. Can not upgrade without unrooting.
you have to Relock, flash the official ICS version then use auto upgrade to JB.
I have tried to root again the official JB using same method for ICS then bricked my phone. now have to use a cooked rom instead bcoz can not downgrade ro stock ICS

Cool, maybe this one is different then. When i wanted to update from 4.03 to 4.04 i had to remove root, it wouldn't update untill i did that......strange

[Q] how do i update to 2.3 when it comes out

this is probably a noob question but this is my second android phone and the first one was already rooted so i didnt to update OTA.
Anyways i have desire z from bell unlocked on fido and not rooted so when android 2.3 is out for this phone can i get it OTA, do i have to rooted just to update it, or do i have to switch to bell to update it?
I'm sure the update will be here on the forums before you get any OTA.

Oh i dont need to root my phone to update from the forums?
If you leave your phone how it is, on the stock ROM, eventually you should get a 2.3 OTA update.
But custom ROMs will be available here on the forums with 2.3 way before then. If you want one then you will have to root and S-OFF.

No. I pushed the G2's OTA from my sd card and I wasn't rooted. Like steviewevie said you're most likely to see a custom rom with the updates before any OTA hits a G2.

And if you have a Custom Sense ROM installed, you don`t get the
OTA Update or rather can`t install this!
Custom ROMs don`t like OTA keys, right?

That's right. But that shouldn't be a problem, because a custom ROM will almost certainly get a 2.3 update before any 2.3 OTA comes out.
Root it now, while you still have the chance!
You can count on the next OTA update taking away the emmc reset vulnerability exploited by wpthis.

OTA?

if iupdate with the OTA
will all, my custom ROM features be gone?
AFAIK you should never update with OTA if you are using a custom rom.
hmm.. iwas just wondering
If you are rooted, and accept an OTA, you will lose root. So no, don't do it.
The OTA will remove root, your custom ROM, etc. etc. etc. and put you at stock 2.3.3, and in order to root that you will have to downgrade back.
Simply put, if you're rooted, flash a pre-rooted OTA ROM, or keep your custom ROM or one of the many based on the new 2.3.4 OTA's. Get all the features and won't lose root.
yea ijuss wanted to knoe what would happen
I've been rooting and modding my phones since
the very first G1 came out still got mine ahah

If you want to update to a ROM based on the OTA, but keep root, you can flash one of the many Pre-rooted OTA builds in the dev section. Or you can always flash a different custom ROM thats based on 2.3.4 also.

[Q] upgrading JB from stock root ICS

hi i just received an OTA notice that i can update my phone to JB. i hv 1 question now, my one x is bootloader unlocked now, but i m using stock rom with root, i wonder if i could update to JB without relocked bootloader, and is it possible root on stock JB now?
All I can tell you is that I never encountered problems with the OTA updated on an unlocked bootloader so I do not think you will encounter them now. Even if something goes wrong you are rooted anyways. If it fails and hboot is not changed just recover. if it fails and hboot is updated just install a 4.1 rom.

can i use this method to update my one x?
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=26967480
Yes, that's exactly what you have to do.
Personally I forgot to use the RootKeeper even tough I had used it to go from firmware 1.xx to 2.xx, so I had to reflash clockwork recovery and SuperSU to re-root after update, but thats it.

[Q] Rooting w/ JB Update

I just updated my phone to JB after and was wondering if rooting is the same process as it was on ICS?
Just wanted to figure it out before I reroot and mess up on accident.
Yes, it's the same.
Rooting is nothing but installing the SU app on ur phone and is the same afor JB and ICS!

Yes you can, You need to unlock Via HTC dev as you did before, chuck on the recovery, flash your boot img and flash the rom!
If you did it before you can do it again!

Well if you're flashing stock official, you need to remove root.
Otherwise, just follow the ROM's OP instructions.
Nope . Didnt want to deal with rooting it again for stock. Didnt know if modem or bootloader need update to flash any of the roms here on xda.

Some of them require bootloader update but it should say so in the ROM's OP that you choose to flash.
