So after seeing demonstrations of Sense 4.0 at MWC, there wasn't much that I was jealous of when compared to stock ICS. However, I was impressed by the implementation of multitasking that HTC has put into the new version of sense.
I haven't seen a thread about this, so I wanted to ask...What are the chances of any brave devs out there working on porting over the sense 4.0 task-switcher to our beloved Galaxy Nexus?
Personally I would rather see a wp7 multitasking, I dislike the tilt on sense 4.0 screens
That's actually a good point. I'd take either. Right now I'm settling for an AOKP customization where the task switcher is horizontal, but the app previews remain the same size.

If you would be pleased by just getting the app previews smaller, that's just a simple xml edit in SystemUI.apk
EDIT: Here's a link on how to do it.

They look pixelated because this is how it can show them quickly and not waste too much memory on it. Otherwise imagine 30 opened apps with high quality previews
Also, at our pcs they look more pixelated than in our phones.

It's not so much the size change that I'm looking for, it's that slick, smooth look and feel that WP7 and Sense 4.0 have for multitasking. Image preview quality doesn't concern me too much as I hopefully won't be looking at the images for long if I'm just quickly switching tasks.

for nexus s only...(sorry i don't have galaxy nexus.. )
but i wrote guide for this mod : [HOWTO] Change ICS App Switcher to Windows Phone 7 Style
WP7 style is WebOS style and has been implemented in AOKP/CM9 Rome for a while. Swipe up/down to close. You can view more screens the traditional ICS way but no different except we have a transparent black vs solid blue, but that could be changed with a replacement image.
Nothing new here, fyi
The 3D effect of sense would be a welcome addition though but functionality wise we already have this, just not as pretty

Would like to find some hi res wallpapers that fit the Galaxy-Nexus resolution, and not stretched wallpapers from older low res Android phones.
I really like the basic minimalistic designs, like a black carbon from the EVO 4G is my favorite, but it looks terrible on the hi res Nexus. Anyone have a link or wallpapers to share ?

Thanks, surprised there is not Sticky for wallpapers ? This phone needs special wallpapers over most Android phones due to one of the first phones with such a high resolution, the old wallpapers just don;t work on this phone.
google, deviantart, wincustomize, there are hundereds of wallpaper sites on the internet. and due to the resolution of the phone any computer WB will have an option for a size for the phone.
anything larger than 1200 in each size is fine for the GN.
personally i get almost all my wallpapers from deviant art and other wallpaper sites. and some here from the post your homescreen topics.
right now in my phone i have 85 wallpapers, maybe 10 of them i got here. rest were google and deviant art.

well is the same as every mother thinks his ugly kid is the most beautiful in the world
He says,
"There are some subtleties to our design that I think make an improvement over the ICS design. For example, when you press that recent apps button, the current app zooms out and then moves over to the right so that the one that’s in the center was the previous app. And then probably 80 percent of the cases, at least, you’re switching to the most recent app, the previous app, and in that case ***you just press right in the center and there you are. So it actually optimizes for that most common case of going to the most recent application.***"
Huh. Kinda like with stock ICS where the last app is right in the bottom right where my thumb already is?

Good for you. CM9/AOKP are based off of Stock(and look very much like stock from what I've seen). Personally, Sense has always seemed like it tried to hard to look "elegant", but came out looking cartoonish. The added features didn't really seem all great either. Mind you, this is from my experience with the HTC Rezound. Plus, simple tasks like changing a ringtone was awkward and didn't work well. They never stuck.

The recent apps window in Sense 4 is One (heh) of the few features I genuinely dislike about it.
A key point of the menu is to access apps you have been previously using. As the article says, In Sense 4, you can see one full app screen, and the edges of the two on either side. In stock ICS you get four full apps shown. Sure, HTC's one looks nice, but it's far less practical, regardless of what the guy who designed it claims. Add some fancy reflections to the stock ICS and it'd look every bit as flashy, too.
And don't get me started on white menu backgrounds. They look nasty, and now I can't use them in the dark without going blind!
The guy even says they didn't have long to tinker with it. Google, on the other hand, has been iterating this UI for a long time. They didn't just make a utilitarian, functional UI at the last minute to get ICS out the door. The fuss they made over Roboto should tell you that much.
Coming off of 3 years of using Sense (had the Hero, Evo 4G and Evo 3D), Sense is nice to look at--but if you want a quicker, more streamlined experience, then stock Android is the way to go. I missed it way too much after I got rid of my G1 a couple years back.
Stock ICS > Sense 4.0.
Coming from a sensation 4g using ARHD, there are a few sense features that google should pick up on.
Sent from my Galaxy Nexus using XDA
well he does work for HTC, so I could imagine they are proud of their work, it is the prettiest overlay for android and its has some useful widgets
Reading off of many reviews about Sense 4 (particularly The Verge's) many say that it does not bring anything new to the table that stock ICS already has.
Plus, many of the things Sense has can be implemented via third-party apps anyways. I never understood their need to insert their proprietary software in the device. Seems so limited and closed. Part of the reason why I hated Sense 3/3.5 on my EVO 3D.
IMHO, Sense was relevant and useful prior to ICS. Now, it just looks dated.
I appreciated sense on my Dinc but would never install a rom with Sense 4.0 on my Gnex.
Sense influenced the evolution of android back in its pioneering days. Since google hired Mathias duarte from webos to apple-ify the interface to make it more elegant and intuitive, there's no need for sense. I wish that these companies would just stick to proprietary apps or something for differentiation rather than screwing with the os. The only thing lacking from ics stock is pull down toggles and customize able nav bar icons. Aokp and some others solve that without ruining ics.

Isn't it true that having an HTC phone means, if you root, that you always have the choice of stock android or sense? Something any other phone lacks.
I have been wondering for a while , how many % of the users in here use aosp based roms (like aokp cm9/10 etc ) and the rest of them using TW based roms , is there a decent percentage of SGS3 owners interested of having the tabletui running on there tw based rom .. or not .
if anyone wonders how tw tablet ui looks you can have a look at screenshots allover the web from the newest tablet from samsung ..
of course without a device in hand its pretty hard for me to do this , not only i know i can do this but I would if i had one thats for sure .
im very happy with my note and do I do not intend on switching phone anytime soon, still under contract for 2 + years makes it pretty ridiculous for me to buy a 600 + deving phone .
So lets not get carried away here (ie trolls keep out) , all i m asking here is, is there need for this type of mod on this device ?
if so then we can start looking into how to make this work .
Sounds very interesting but I am going to get Note II soon and that will be my primary device going forward. A month+ ago when the specs for the LTE Galaxy Note II was not available, I would have been interested...
I personally have no interest in a tablet UI on my GS3 - however, I know there are surely some folks out there who would jump at the chance! What would be the advantage of a tablet UI on a 4.8" screen?
I personally don't see the need for tablet mode on the GS3. The screen is just too small to put it to good use. The Note is a different story however.
coming from a GNOte... and specially from one of ur Roms DAGr8 i would love to have a TW Tablet mode
I just started playing around with paranoid android and I do like the tablet mode for the workspace with the back and home buttons on the bottom bar with the notifications, I dont have to reach as far to hit the back button. If I could have something similar but with all the bells and whistles of touchwiz I would be in.

Never was a big fan of TW on the GS2 although I must say it's much nicer on the GS3. I always end up using a different launcher anyways if I stay on a TW rom. I usually prefer PA for the tablet UI and AOKP for certain other features. Your KingKang looks pretty sweet, maybe you could bring that over?

Bump. I'm looking for this too.
EDIT:
I did a bit of researching, and I couldn't find anything. In my opinion your best option is installing a ParanoidAndroid ROM (based off CM10 or AOKP depending on which you like) and then a TouchWiz theme.
You should be able to find a ParanoidAndroid ROM in your device's thread.
Here's the link to the TouchWiz theme: http://www.mrmad.net/mrmaddon-jellywiz-edition-fur-galaxy-nexus-2208, scroll down and download the "TouchWiz Jelly Bean Addon 1.3.3" and flash in CWM.
Until someone releases REAL TouchWiz tablet UI, this is all we got.
Is use paranoidkangdroid, a mashup between aokp and paranoidandroid. And I personally love having a tablet ui. Especially apps like Gmail and YouTube are much better in tablet mode. It would be interesting to try out a tw tablet ui for this phone, as I do miss some of the touch wiz features. Like the camera and s beam. I would definitely download it if you were to make one

I would love a tablet UI for the S3, especially if I have the option of moving between phone UI (even TW) and tablet UI...that would be sweet.
Make a short list of things you wish the ZL had, in order to make your perfect vision of the ZL. I'm interested to see what people come up with and what is the most common.
Screen a la HTC One, with perfect viewingangles
32GB or 64GB internal storage, very nice when installing large applications / games
Bigger battery so it will come to the level of the HTC One and the Galaxy S IV
Software-options: DPI of the softbuttons, colors of the (notification)bar out of the box
It is perfect as far as I'm concerned.
The only thing I miss is the stock browser which can be installed if rooted.

Stock Android browser FTW instead or next to Chrome! DPI settings of the softbuttons, color of the softbuttons that you can change...
Having used the stock browser for a week, I think its not so great after all! Facebook images appear blurred (cramped in size), no full access to many websites like official sony support (can't login). No such issues with chrome, plus multi tab handling is best, but I miss the flash support, fullscreen & quick controls (of the stock browser) on chrome. Perhaps no browser is complete, so, I have to use both!
All that said, I would like sony to improve its camera software (mainly the image post processing) so as to have better quality (especially during day). I believe the camera sensor used (in Z/ZL) is top notch at the moment, but its performance limited by sony's software implementation (too much noise blur). Oh, n btw, the screen is stunning imo (best I've used so far) :good:!
Thanks for the replies everyone, this is very interesting and it helps me decide what I would want to work on for a ROM.
Guys I think Sony should make A new phone with the same Specs of Xperia Zl,
just as like HTC made their "htc one x" but Due to some issues like Fast battery draining and some other, Company made "htc onex+" with same Specs but adding more Battery(1850 to 2100mAh) and with more Storage.
So actually try to understand my point which is that Sony should Try to make Xperia ZLi or ZL+ and try to renew their Curent Xperia ZL stock by putting IPS LCD screen, removeeable battery cover like Xperia TX(Although battery cover is not a such issue) and putting Slightly more power to battery at least 2500mAh,
May be in this circumstances Sony recover their Loss which they Bear since Xperia TX................
we all see the S4 have almost same size of S3 but they ported amazingly 2100mAh to 2600mAh battery and also the weight is less than that of S3.By the way I'm Not Fanboy of Samsung....
Xperia having 2370mAh battery but its 9.8mm and S4 having 7.9mm slightly more bezel but more battery.
Its the Basically point to be noted why Samsung put more battery by just little difference of bezel size.
Xperia ZL is no doubt A good Smartphone but its resale value is equal to nothing, that's why ppl hesitating to purchase it,otherwise design is very impressive but screen really A bad factor for Zl,
Anyway I like the Xperia ZL but Sony should now learn A lesson at least..............

As many of you may have noticed, google android gave excellent news for L (4.5 or 5.0) has a new interface, new keyboard, ART runtime, Project Volta and endless deployments to the system, from my point of view, this will be, so far, the update with more changes to date, and I see a great future in android.
Q - What is your opinion about this update?
Q - Our Optimus G will be able to get this update? (Obviously not by LG)
I make this post since no one around here seems excited as I am
Write your review below :highfive:

that's true, black is not it look bad, but bored after a while, for me, the new look is "solid", and most of all simple, I'm excited, because maybe, improving performance and the battery life due to ART, is significantly better than kitkat
There is also a reason y black has been chosen..to reduce t battry consumption...also it wrks well in case of amoled screens...
I like the L look but I also like the new LG interface from the G3. Remember you will get most of the L features as updated Google apps roll out. Once the Nexus 4 has this update it will be pretty straightforward to get it on the Optimus G. But I think the best solution for this phone will be: official KK, root and theme to get G3 features, and use the redesigned Google apps as they come out.
I'm expecting CM12 late this year. The new UI looks great.
Surprised to see so many excited for ART.

Absolutely agree with this. I'd say not necessarily the official KK, but stock-based, like Sling or VDT. Personally, I don't like the L look, from what I've seen. Some components are just plain ugly, for example, the keyboard. To each their own, I guess...
As for ART, the dealbreaker for me is Xposed. When it starts supporting ART, it will make sense to upgrade. Until then, no.

Well, for LCD screens, the difference is very marginal, if not negligible, since the backlight is the main power sucker. Only AMOLED will give you a measureable power saving when using black.
I hope Android L, as I read in the forum the nexus 5, the battery life has drastically improved, 2h SOT (Screen on Time) to 4 + to some users says 7 hours of screen time
and overall performance is more buttery and solid
I'm excited, hopefully developers porting nexus 4 to achieve, then our talented developers can port it to Optimus G
Excuse my bad English, I'm using google translator
I love the professional UI. I'd love to have a stock Android L experience if it ever comes to O.G
In my opinion the core experience and visual changes are improvements and to the regular Joe they might seem ok but I'm concerned about the hability we will have to modify this new version. Seems to me Google is locking it Down some to make it more "secure" and now it will be using Knox tech on that front. If we start getting qFuses ala Samsung we are going to have a hard time modding out devices it's not going to be impossible but very hard. Look at the Verizon and AT&T latest Samsung Models, they just now got rooted and beyond rooting custom roms might be possible but kernels and recoverys will be very very hard with the locked Boot loaders. And Google now wants to be like Apple and lock it all down. That part I don't like.
Sent from my Fully Modded N3 using XDA Premium HD app
No, they may want to lock the source. Tho, you can run any modification you want, if you know how to do it. In 1.5 it was a hell harder than it is today. So seeing people complaining about being hard to put a mod because you have to move stuff through folders, give permissions, and use a terminal, make me incredible nervous.
Still, I highly doubt they will lock the source. Android growns due the freedom of its open source. So no, it will stay opened, what the OEMs does is problem of the dumb people who gets their devices because they want a trademark logo instead of a good device.
Android L is like a revolution upgrade, not by looks, by the API's they put in it & ART will be default.
As a android developer I'm really surprise how much easier some API's have become, and ART is a big deal in developing for android.
Can't wait to start using those API's.
Q: Will LG release Android L for our E975?
If so I'm stick with this phone, love the Optimus UI, its really easy to use.

Happy to get the regular ART, but Android L is just to a version to sent older smartie's into retirement. Will see how CM's work is done with L. Don't think L is featured that well. Just to make it compatible to Wear and TV and so on ? Do I have to buey a new TV now ? For what ? Don't see serious graphical improvements. But everyone has his own opinion.
For me it is just creating a hug bubble with nothing serious in it.
Regards.

It has a lot of new features. Some even from PA. Paranoid Android devs themselves loved L because is finally getting where they wanted it to be. Also, I loved the UI, looks better, tho as I'm a oem firmware lover since my Xperia s, it may have helped a lot. Never liked stock aosp Ui anyway.
I don't like the new UI either. It's more like a custom launcher than a standard one for daily use.
IMO I think the new Material Design looks pretty cool. Features like lock screen notifications are also long overdue
I've been following the porting of Android L in the nexus 4 and almost ready, but missing some details, I wonder if there will be some developer who carries the Optimus G, after completion of porting this
