spin forever !! - Acer Iconia Tab A100

Anyone No how to fix this spin forever error when you try to boot into recovery mode?

I'm not sure. I would guess it may not be seeing the file its expecting. Make sure you have the files in the correct location.

the file is in the correct location as i just used the same sd card to update my girlfriends a100 with no issues to ICS

What kind of card are you using? That might be playing a factory into your problem.

trandsend these have never given me a problem in any phone or tablet but thanks for the reply

Ok, I'm thinking that the class, speed, and format are the issue. I'm runming a 16GB Cass 10 Patriot formatted in fat32. Makes it fast enough to ensure no timeouts in the background.

you need to wipe your device
• Switch off
• Press Vol-up + Power
• If display goes on: Release power but hold vol-up
• Toggle Lockswitch (On->Off->On->Off)
I did it a few time before get it right. then it will write something on the screen and reboot really quick.

No space left on device

Afternoon all,
Last night I left my Desire charging as normal, having recently installed the Remote Media App. I suspect it used up all my storage with some sort of indexing process, as I returned to the phone this morning to find it perpetually showing the glinting HTC logo.
A reboot failed to clear it, and booting into recovery mode reveals"E:Error in DATA:data/recovery/log, (No space left on device)"
I've tried connecting to it with adb, but I get the following error
- exec '/system/bin/sh' failed: No such file or directory (2) -
Is there any way out of this bind? I had/have ClockWorkMod recovery installed in order to use ROM Manager, but I'm not terribly clued up on what else is out there on offer.
Any advice would be greatly appreciated.
Kyle
Try rebooting the phone into recovery mode and wipe/factory reset and see if this fixes it?
(Although you will loose all your apps/settings/scenes, though)
This should resolve the problem though.
hehe, there is always that option. I was hoping not to lose texts, settings, etc though this time round. Sadly my backup is more than a few days old.
I was mistaken in thinking I had ClockWorkMods recovery image installed, it appears to have gone back to the default image. I've just discovered a modified recovery ROM from JesusFreke here http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=443041 which may be of use.
Having to wipe and start from scratch again is a disgustingly appaling out of space failure mode. >:-/
bin the phone and use a pineapple
That recovery image is for G1! Don't even think about flashing it.
Even if you have stock recovery, you should still be able to clear storage from HBOOT.
Regards,
Dave
One other thing that might be worth trying is booting the device in safe mode.
Whilst the phone is power down, hold down the menu button and then power on - keep menu held down until the phone is fully booted.
I doubt that it will help in this situation, since clearly /data is completely full, but there's always a slim chance it work.
Regards,
Dave

Thanks for the advice m, I'll be sure to kick you in the nads next time you cross the border
Sadly Safe Mode fails too. The HTC logo appears and glints for a while, and then briefly vanishes just to reappear again. My thumb got sore after 5 minutes of holding the button down
I realised that was a G1 ROM shortly after reading more about it! I see there may be a more suitable recovery ROM at http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=709146 that I can flash. Failing that, then I'll clear storage and consign myself to failure
Wahey! It's sorted! Well, it was sorted a couple of hours ago, but a meeting got in the way
Wrote up some of the details here - http://lodge.glasgownet.com/2010/08/31/recovering-a-htc-desire/ if anyone is interested!

Sorry to dig up an OLD OLD thread, but your "guide" helped me out last night.
In addition to looking for "big" items in the data partition, I also moved some of the Google updates (5meg Maps.apk anyone ?) from /data/app to /system/app ... renaming to overwrite the original version from my Rom.
Thanks Again.

[ROM][SPRINT] Stock Gingerbread 2.3.4 Update

Since no one posted here yet, I will.
THIS IS STRICTLY FOR SPRINT TAB ONLY.
Here is all the step you need to get your tab updated to Gingerbread. Thanks to ZoinksS2k for the guide and pvtjoker42 for the file.
First you have to have stock EB28 on the tab. If not follow these steps:
Download the E24 flasher
Find a copy of Odin (1.3 worked for me)
Extract the flasher, look in \Models\Binary, strip the .MD5 extension from the file SPH-P100.EA24.SECURE.REV07-FULL_CL871413.tar.md5
Load Odin
Connect device via USB
Reboot into recovery (power off, hold power and down volume keys or do a "adb reboot download")
Select the newly renamed .TAR file in the PDA slot in Odin
Select start (flashing should commence)
Boot, then you will be prompt for EB28 update, allow the EB28 update to complete
Then follow these step to update to Gingerbread:
Download the Gingerbread update (Special thanks to pvtjoker42 for this. Source)
Copy the update_from_EB28_to_EF17.zip file to the root of your SD card, rename it to update.zip
Reboot into recovery (power off, hold power and up volume keys or do a "adb reboot recovery")
Use volume rocker to select apply update.zip (or whatever)
Touch the home button to select
NOTE: If you got stuck during the update, try to reformat the sd card with your tab or use a different one, then try again
Warning: You will lose root on the tab, and there is not a solution to root Gingerbread yet...
Enjoy!
Downloaded, renamed and flashing using the recovery.
Now I'm at a screen with little android with triangle with ! sign..
is this normal?
Hold in power for like 20 seconds (power off), then power on like usual.
Boot normal? Yeah!
Stuck at samsung logo? Bad flash. Return to step one.
i am also stuck at the screen with the android guy and the triangle

I had to reformat the SD card on the tab itself and then try the update.zip in recovery. Don't reformat the card via windows, that didn't work for me.
I posted this in the GB update thread as well.....
Can someone pull a nandroid, and a roto for me of the sprint gb stock after install, pm me and ill give you an ftp account to upload it.
Make sure....for the love of god, please remove your personal data first.
I could use a clean system dump to start on some roms in gb.

Do a Factory reset before you do a nandroid or a roto. That way no personal data will be there before you send it to Oldmacnut

Sorry for the noob question but can you instruct how to do this? Would save me sometimes researching. Thanks
Thanks! I was spamming the update firmware button and getting nothing. i knew someone on XDA would have my back. That's why i love this community!
I dont have root or cwm. Everything installed fine. The only possible issue I see that wasnt happening with ea24 and eb28 is the battery isnt charging when connected to a computer. There is a red X in the battery. Before, this happened when I had cwm 3000 on with eb28. When I flashed back to complete stock and only rooted, it started charging through usb like it used to. Can anyone say if they are experiencing this also? I am thinking something is not right here.
Update
Hey darkpal, its oldmacnut not oldmacunt. Lol
To my knowledge the Tab will NOT charge via computer USB. It has to be plugged in to the stock power adapter. Something about the voltage or amperage (I don't remember which) is too low from a pc USB port. It will run off the USB without draining the battery, but it will not charge.
im assuming someone is working on the root? :]

It was charging fine via USB in Froyo builds EA24 and EB28, so this must be some kernel issue with EF17. We should report this to Sprint and Samsung (and Google?) as an issue.

Google patched the Gingerbreak exploit so we'll most likely only see root once there is a custom kernel. Hopefully we'll see that soon..

Speaking of custom kernels, are there any developers working on that? Kernel sources for Sprint Tab were released by Sprint/Samsung last week, but I haven't seen any interest on XDA.
IMO... Tab looks the same as before. Are there any differences than Froyo besides it saying build: Gingerbread & battery not charging with usb? I just changed SD cards and it updated fine.
Edit: Quadrant Advance running @ 1615
I don't know if it's my imagination or not but it seems like the four action buttons on the bottom aren't registering a touch as easy as they used to. Reminds me of my old moment. I'm clearly touching dead center of it yet nothing is happening right away. Speed wise, I'm not noticing anything of an improvement.
Guys, need your help!
The following are the steps i tried, and failed:
Step 1. 2GB Micro SD - Lexar
Formatted FAT32 - NO GO
Formatted inside my tab - NO GO
I figured may be the card is bad
Step 2. 2GB Micro SD - Kingston
Formatted FAT32 - NO GO
Formatted Inside my tab - No Go
I figured may be because i am 'rooted', so i wiped the tab clean (Power + Vol UP), Wipe Cache clean
Step 3. 8GB Micro SD - SanDisk
Formatted FAT32 - No GO
Formatted Inside my tab - NO GO
Problem: the update goes about 1/4 and then the triangle with "!" appears
I dont mean to sound like a dufus, but can anyone point me to the right directions?
Thank you

[Q] Can not escape bootloader - volume and power keys unresponsive?

Hey guys,
I hope you're all well.
Great forum by the way.
I've searched extensively for solutions to my problem, yet I've been unable to find anything.
I think the problem started yesterday, when I restarted my phone and for some reason it went into safe mode.
I didn't lost any functionality so I didn't care too much until this morning, when I tried to get out of safe mode.
My phone has taken me to the bootloader (white screen with skateboarding Android) and for some reason, the power key (used to select options) and the volume keys (used to scroll) are not functioning.
As a result I cannot click or choose anything and the white bootloader screen persists in limbo.
I desperately need some suggestions, any help is very much appreciated.
Just so you know:
I've taken the battery out and put it back in, which takes me straight back to the bootloader screen, same with sim card.
The phone is running Coredroid (can't remember which version).
Has S-OFF.
Sorry I'm not much of an expert...
Also, on startup, phone says something along the lines of:
SD Checking...

LOADING... [PD98DIAG.nbh]
NO IMAGE OR WRONG IMAGE!

Something has become corrupted.
Best bet would be to use an ruu 2.36.405.8 and lower, once loaded up, skip through the setup and then root again.
http://driphter.com/index.php?topic=3867.0
after you've done all that, install rom manager, and then restore your last backup.
Just a quick update.
Managed to get into Clockwork Mod Recovery.
Got the SD Card to mount.
Formatted it in windows.
Copied over Coredroid.
Went thru the install process.
Installed without error.
Booted up.
Took it's time, displayed the Coredroid animation but then vibrated and took me straight to Bootloader again.
Any advice or best to do this RUU thing?
Would this:
RUU_Ace_HTC_WWE_1.32.405.3_Radio_12.28b.60.140e_26.03.02.15_M3_release_155032_signed
Be ok?
Am I in the right ballpark?
Truly got no clue when it comes to this stuff
use the 2.36.405.8 RUU, then you wont have to spend your time updating the radio and such, that version of gingerbread is rootable using gingerbreak (so just follow that path of my method and you're set)

Hello mate,
Just a quick question.
How do I get my computer to recognize my phone prior to running this RUU thing?
Considering I can't scroll or select anything in bootloader screen?
Can I run this RUU thing from ClockworkMod?
Kind regards,
- Ric
you run it from your pc. its an advaced installer that pushes the stock rom to the device and overwrites everything... it will put the phone into a different bootloader state than the one you can nav through.
Also, sometimes the phone is booting into bootloader, while other times it is booting into ClockworkMod.
It seems I have no control over which screen it initially boots to.
I DO HAVE options in ClockworkMod because my volume keys allow me to scoll and my power button allows selection, whereas in bootloader, the keys do not function.
Could you PLEASE provide some advice on how to boot into ClockworkMod rather than bootloader?
Kind regards,
- Ric

Yes I do realize I run the RUU from the PC.
I don't think I was very clear.
I was trying to ask you what state the phone needs to be in?
Do I have to mount the SD Card from ClockworkMod?
Or can I run the RUU while in Bootloader?
Does it matter?
Neither have worked.
I get a 170 error (USB Connection error).
The RUU cannot see my phone.
I was wondering if there's a way to fix this?
I have also now tried to install Leedroid and Gingervillian.
Both have installed perfectly but refuse to boot all the way.
Instead taking me back to Bootloader...
Ok, Leedroid somehow booted.
No network or anything though.
Very unstable...
if the phone is running leedroid now and you have the htc sync tools installed (but without sync running, just needs to be installed for the drivers)
leave it as it is connected to your pc, doesnt matter if debugging or anything else is on or off. just leave it alone sitting where it is on your desk or wherever it is...
Start the RUU, and then just follow the path the installer takes you through, then let it do its magic...
Ended up d/l Cyanogen.
Installed it.
Working, detected networks, wifi is connected.
All good I suppose.
That was a bit scary!
Thanks for your help mate.

[Q] Tried to update, now unuseable

So I have upgraded my i927 captivate glide using the ROM from , but I only Androidupdate com called I927UCLH2_I927ATTLH2_I927UCLH2_Home tar md5 but I get a black screen with a slide down menu saying the date ‘Ongoing’ and an option to change the way that the device connects to another computer.
The update stated pass, it booted and proceeded to tell me that it was updating apps or something like that, then a black screen with the pull down menu from the top of the screen near the usb symbol came up but nothing else. I got a message a few hours later stating that the update application or something like that was not responding and an option to wait or quit. I chose wait, but nothing came of it eventually.
I then proceeded to try reflashing the process with no success even after factory reset and rebooting.
I then tried the pre-release ICS update as per XDA developers and other websites. Same thing
I tried a few other ODIN programs and ROMs but no success. Same issues including the hang up on the Samsung logo. I tried rooting it once and for some reason it started up into what looked like the same pull down menu, but it was requesting that I needed an to input a lock code for the network. I assume that is because my sim card was in it by now, but maybe not. I got so frustrated that I tried the bootloader and update bootloader options using the official ICS update ROM for some stupid reason but nothing. The thing is that at least it booted into the pull down menu that i got with a black screen again.
I then flashed with an updated ICS, CWM6 but cannot do the:
Third: Reboot into CWM6 (Volume- and power) install from sdcard (superuser)
Link to superuser: Superuser-3.2-RC2-arm-signed zip
Forth: Repeat third step above but install keyboard fix.
Link to keyboard fix: CWM_keyboard_backlight_fix zip
since I do not have an SD card that is working. I did get the SD Card in the device but I have always had problems with the format of it and I cannot put the zips onto the card due to the computer Win7 not recognizing it. I tried reformatting the device is HPUSB format program and windows. I inserted the card into the device to hopefully have it recognized on windows, and i gave me an option to format the SD card. So I proceeded and success. I was able to put the Zips onto the card. However, I returned to the CWM6 screen by pressing the VOL- and power keys but the files were no where to be found on the SD Card.
I moved on after a few other tries at it, so I tried to go backwards to the Gingerbread ROM. No success, same hanging issue at the Samsung logo.
I then tried to reflash with the devices original ROM as provided by DroidAngel on androidupdate com. Both without success.
I wanted to try the process involved on the 'stuck on boot screen' thread, but I cannot access the zip files on the sdcard in order to be able to do that.
I also bought my phone unlocked from the US (ATT version) and had it sent to me in Canada unlocked so I cannot just return it to the seller to get a new one, so my new phone is pretty useless.
I have spent two days reading through and trying different fixes and updated ROMs on multiple sites but I just cannot figure out what the heck to do now. I know that this site is not to spoon feed people and I am a noob to all of this but I am out of ideas and cannot find anything else to help out.
Where do I go from here. Is there a possibility of reformatting EVERYTHING on the device including all partitions etc etc.? I mean the hardware is fine, it is just a software issue. I do this to my laptop whenever I get into a bind.
Have you tried booting into CWM and restoring factory?
sent from my captivate glide running ICS (NardROM 0.3 Rooted)
Just a note, the SD card you're seeing in CWMR isn't actually your physical SD card, its the internal phone memory. I don't think we have a version of CWMR that reads the real external SD unless modified. So anything you put on it won't show up there. The folder structure will look like ... /sdcard/external_sd/ where /sdcard/ is where you want to put your files for CMWR to see, /external_sd/ is your physical card you can take in/out.
I have tried to reflash with CWM6 using ODIN v3. I didn't realize that the SD card that came up was actually a part of the internal memory. Thanks to you both for the help.
Any other suggestions since no matter what I do now the phone simply stops at the Samsung logo and wont turn off? I press the power button for the required time to shut it down but it automatically restarts by itself to again sit at the Samsung logo.

A few questions about your situation right now:
Can you get into Download mode? (Turn off the device, in your case remove the battery. Press power en volume UP)
Can you get into CWM? (Turn off the device, in your case remove the battery. Press power en volume DOWN)
Does it keep asking you for the Network Key? Are you stuck at that particular point...?

Okay, so right now I can still get into the download mode to flash, the CWM6 to factory reset and reboot which I have tried already as stated, and I have not been asked for the network key again since the one time quite a long time ago. The network key is only asked when I load one of the other custom ROMS though, but I have not tried any of those in a while.
I am stuck at the black screen with white Samsung logo.
In CWM6, do you see "mounts and storage" (Second to last option)
If so, connect your phone with the USB cable and select "mounts and storage".
In there and select "mount USB storage" (Again, second to last option, you'll have to scroll to get to it)
Now your PC should see the USB storage which is in fact what is marked as internal SD. So the sdcard CWM can actually see and install things from.
Now you can copy a custom ROM to it, and install it through CWM. Or install anything that is in CWM format.
You may get the Network Key Request as before. I do not know if it can be bypassed by starting it without the SIM. If so, you could then try to unlock your device using one of the methods on the forum.
Alternatively, and highly recommended by yours truly, is to buy the unlock code.
It is somewhat common for these devices to re-lock, so having the code handy is very convenient. I used americanunlocker to get mine, and I put the code on the inside of the back-cover should I find myself re-locked in the middle of nowhere. The code works, and isn't that expensive. In fact, it's a steal if you look at your own time invested in all this in terms of hourly wage! Of course, you'll need the IMEI code. You can find that by removing the back-cover and the battery.
Good luck!
Got it running on Bio360 but 'Not Registered on Network' now

Thank you so much for the feedback, I actually had not thought about the unlock code idea, and since you put it into such perfect terms considering the time and effort that has to go into something like that, it is a good idea for sure to get one. The idea of keeping it on the inside of the back cover is another awesome idea. Kudos to you and thanks!
As for the rest of what you had stated about the mounting and what not; I actually mounted and successfully reflashed and installed all of the required files for the new ICS stock upgrade. The good news was that I got past the Samsung screen again and it said that it was updating all of the applications or whatever again, but then it just gave me the pull down menu again with very limited functionability.
I then used your suggestion to try out another ROM. I tried the Bio360 and followed all directions on the 'phone stuck on boot screen thread'. It worked! I finally have a functional phone again and will be able to get calls from my boss. Thanks!
Now that I know I have one option, I can explore any other options. I still cannot figure out how it is that I will be able to get the ICS upgrade but maybe I will try Kies.
However, I just found that I don't have network access anymore despite that I have a strong cell signal, so I presume that I will have to enter the unlock code somewhere. Where can I put that into? It didn't pop up to tell me anything.

You're very welcome! Glad to hear the phone is usable again. In order to get data back you will have to set your APN manually. Stock ROMs come with the APN settings for all providers it is expected to be sold with. But custom ROMs usually come without those settings. You can find the APN settings for your provider online, just do a search. There is even an app for it, but the name eludes me at the moment. You'll need wifi to get the app, though! Once the settings are in place (You put them in under wireless & Networks), you'll have data again.
As for the limited functionality, I had the same thing, at first. The upgrade was broken for me, I guess some settings/apps were causing problems. So, after flashing the upgrade, I did a factory reset in CWM. I also wiped the cache, and the Dalvik cache, for good measure(Under advanced in CWM). It rebooted, said it was upgrading and installing, and I let it sit for a few minutes. Then I was greeted by an initial setup screen, and the phone has been on a working ICS ever since! I did lose all my settings and such, but I had a back-up of those with Titanium Backup, and got those back that way.
Hope this will help as well.

Hi! if you want to really help me please read till the end because the problem is in stages and i want you to
have all the info!
I have a LG g3 (LGD855..) and yesterday it suddenly crushed and didn't come back - i pulled out the battery and put it in again and the it came back with a weird error:
DemiGod Crash Handler : Kernel Crash! :
Press key to choose Dload Mode/Reboot
1)Volume Up: Dload Mode.
2) Volume Down: Reboot.
etc'
Of course it didn't got into dload mode. I did some digging and found that is fatal error of the device and nothing can be done but try hard reset - but then I tried something else i read that is to pull both power b and v down button at same time when starting and get into safe mode - i tryed that - it didn't got to safe mode but it booted correctly!!! its alive!! - NOT FOR LONG. I managed to backup about 50% of my files and then it crushed again to the same kernel error. This morning I pulled out the battery and put it back after an hour and it came to a situation where the LED is in like greenish and blue light fading and the LG life's good (sure..) screen is showing - stuck like that and every few min changing the animation but no more than that. I managed to get the message "device" on adb so I figure maybe I can pull some files out of it, or maybe push a recovery like twrp and try to do something from there.. but i still want my 50% data left there so factory reset is really the last resort. Please help me.. what is my best option?
is it possible to pull files to my comp like that?
is it possible to push the recovery with adb?
and what kind of recovery do i need?
and will it wipe out all my data?
My device is rooted and i have no recovery or SD card. Thank you!!!
*update: adb reboot bootloader - does nothing but reset and get back to the LG life sucks screen...

2) Volume Down: Reboot.
etc'
