I recently purchased two M88 Miphones from China (Windows Mobile 6.0 version). Both were supposed to be in English but when they were shipped to me, one was in English and the other Spanish. How can I change the language from Spanish to English? Or maybe I can install an entirely new English version of Windows Mobile 6.0? Can I extract the ROM from the English one and use it for the other (Spanish) one? Please help. Thanks.
It's great to find a way to install or restore the Windows on M88. My one just died. I haven't access to anything but the "phone" functions, so i need to restore it somehow from my PC. Some advices?

Hi, I think there is a way to change your Windows to English. I received the same phone with the same problem. I wrote to the supplier and they respond with the decision: they provided the original english WM6 ROM for M88 MiPhone on the website, so you can download it from here: http://rapidshare.com/files/168534489/DX.SKU16783.UPDATE.ENGLISH.AUG01.rar
But my problem is that I can't go in to the bootloader mode - just don't know how so to start loading the Windows OS. The instructions on the site are very poor and don't work. So I'm stuck again. Here there are the instructions:
"English OS System 20080801 Edition (ROM image) available for download
- To update ROM, format your TF card with FAT32 and unzip all files and folders from the downloaded file into the root folder of the TF card. Then, restart the phone to begin updating. This update converts all non-English versions of this phone into English version."
And some more instructions from my correspondence with the supplier, which shows different way of putting the phone in to the bootloader mode:
"we have a better idea to solve this inconvenience for you
we had updated a file on our website for you
you can download it and put it in your memory card to update the language into English.
you can put the file in the memory card no need to creat a folder for it
and insert the card into your cellphone
press the power bottom and the home bottom together
a few second later there would be a message on the screen shows you can press the home bottom again to restart the cellphone"
So maybe you can see they are showing different ways to enter the boot loader. Neidher 2 of them are working for me.
Since I have this phone I didn't find a way to enter the bootloader mode! I tried every combination between the keys but NOTHING! The only thing what I can do with the buttons is SWITCH OFF, SOFT RESET AND HARD RESET.
Please if somebody discover how to do that on that phone -M88 to share here with the rest of us!
Best of luck!

Hi, I'm From Brazil
I'm selling this phone here in my country.
I think I've got same problem here. But I've tried to get bootscren and it seems to be that procedure correct.
Once you shutdown the phone first remove it battery for 10 seconds, and than put back into the phone. Than press power and home(that center buttom) until phone show 2 messages(one for master boot and other for clear boot).
After this message you may release power buttom and keep pressing home buttom untill phone shows it boot screen.
You will face a "downloading program, please wait" message on phone screem
But be extremelly carefull than, make sure you have a power cable attached to the phone and it battery at least 90% charged because update took lot of time sometimes.
I'm telling that because today I have one M88 "dead" in my hands because I did not followed all this procedure and after 35 minutes, by mystake I pressed reset buttom.
Now my phone not even turns on, nor charge it battery, is dead.
But I think using one of those "BOX" devices I will ressucitate it!
Thanks m8!
The thing is that when I press the 2 buttons at once I can only get blue screen for less than 1 second and after that Windows is loading. When it is done - the phone is after hard reset. I've tried hundreds of times - always the same. I can't get messages asking me to load software - only hard reset is the result. I've tried any other combination, including the reset buton under the cover, next to USB, but never managed to enter the service mode or boot mode or whatever it is.
One week I'm wasting my time in doing hundreds of attemts to enter the bootloader and nothing! How then do you make a hard reset on the M88?
Do you thing if I can use backup from english version of the same model that will change the situation - the spanish will be substituted by english? And if it's possible can you upload such a backup, made by Spb backup software for me, please?
Best regards
I have stupid problem. Some files disappeared, some programs stopped working and the entire system blocked. I made many soft and hard resets, which fixed the things... for a while. After one hour it's blocking again, without any settings, or interventions.
I downloaded the ROM, created a "root" folder in the card and unzipped everything there.
The thing is that it ROM-boot looks too fast - only couple of minutes. Can it be?

But be pretty calm when performing update or you gonna get a bricked phone.
But is it possible that the update takes only few minutes? Or i'm doing only hard reset?

Hi from Ireland!
Yes it's possible. Today I finally managed to make the update - it took only 3 minutes. Now I have English OS on my M88!
It's a really nice phone isn't it?

How to install WM6 ROM - English version on M88 MiPhone from SD card
Please download the original ROM from here
I was adwised to do this:
1. Duplicate the update.img file and rename the second one as "uploader"
2. Copy both "update.img" and "uploader" on the SD - formatted in FAT32
3. Press POWER and HOME butons at the same time.
4. There are two possible options from here:
a) White screen with blue text showing "Upload image... please wait..."
b) Red screen with the options what to do in the next step -
5. I saw first the a) option - the white screen. So after 3 minutes of waiting the phone said it is done and it will selfrestart.
After the restart it will load the English OS on your M88
Enjoy
the mine is dead too.

Here is the fix, sponsored by wirelessandmorestore.com
Copy both of these files to your computer.
http://uploading.com/files/YE6JJ36Y/update.img.html
http://uploading.com/files/TA1N0MBA/uploader.img.html
Plug in your phone and copy them to the SD card.
Turn the phone off.
Press the button on the top and the round button on the face at the same time and continue to hold it. As you are holding it, the phone will turn and go thorugh a couple steps before it says something like 'downloading image' or 'updating image' something like that.
Once it gets to that screen, you can let go of the buttons and the phone will update and reboot. This will take a couple of minutes. It will be in English when it turns itself back on and loads Windows.
Hi all,
Just received my Vodafone-branded Diamond, and I'm afraid I already managed to brick it!
It was equipped with version "1.37.172.3 NLD" so I decided to upgrade it to the latest version.
The installation of OliNex Hard-SPL 1.93 went flawless, but the installation of ROM "RUU_Diamond_HTC_WWE-ME_1.93.456.2_Radio_Signed_Diamond_52.29.25.12_1.00.25.05_Ship.exe" stopped at about 25% with error code 302. The recovery method that came with the package didn't help, every time the upgrade stopped at the same moment.
Since the device is stuck in the bootloader, and I'm left with a non-chargeable battery, I tried the official Vodafone-branded "RUU_Diamond_Vodafone_NL_1.97.172.4_Radio_Signed_Diamond_52.44.25.24_1.08.25.08_Ship.exe" ROM. Unfortunately, this upgrade stops at 48% and throws the same 302 error.
Anyone who can tell me what I'm doing wrong, and what I can do to solve all this?
I hope I don't have a brand new, but bricked device on Christmas!
TIA and have a nice day.
Try a hard reset first. If this doesn't help google or search at XDA for MTTY.
This tool can fix your device
http://wiki.xda-developers.com/index.php?pagename=Kaiser_Stuck_at_bootloader
Try this, maybe will work
Try a Vodafone branded stock rom before mtty.
Regards,
Carty..
He already tried a stock rom....
Potential Solution
Have you looked at the thread titled,
[UPG][TRBL]How-to fix: Update/Flash doesnt work, stops at 0% or 5% (invalid model ID)
It may just be a model ID glitch that can me fixed.
Take a look. It's in this forum in a sticky by cptsunshine.
Thanks all for the help, I'll have a look at your suggestions.
The problem isn't that it stops at 0% or 5%, it stops at random percentages (depending on the ROM I use).
I also see the bootloader (red / green / blue), so it's not dead. I guess it's just that it doesn't pick up a ROM.
Besides, the bootloaders says upgrade ROM code error please try again.
Edit:
A hard reset doesn't seem to work. In the bootloader, when I press "volume down" and "enter" together, and press the "reset button" the screen goes black, but then goes back to the bootloader screen after a sec or 2.
Edit 2:
MTTY doesn't do much either, after executing "boot" the phone is showing me the Vodafone logo and that's it.
For the rest, MTTY shows me the following:
Cmd>boot
InitDisplay: Display_Chip=1
dwDirectNum: 0, dwMatrixNum: 0, dwMicroPNum: 0
Fixed new dwPSImageSize = 0x53E0000
Install Rom via Internal Memory Method
Steps from Suiller:
1. open from your PC the rar or zip archive and extract only the BIG .nbh file
2. rename as DIAMIMG.NBH
3. copy the renamed file into the root dir of your "Storage Card" or "Internal Storage" (the one of 4Gb... NOT to the internal phone memory!)
4. reset your device and within 3 seconds push together the Vol_Down + Back button (the one on the right above the hangup button) and keep pressed until the boot loader appears (the one with the color stripes)
5. soon as you see the bootloader stop to press those poor buttons
6. a very simple gray menu will appear asking you what to do, simple press the power button to perform the ROM/Radio upgrade
7. while the upgrade runs be patient and don't press again the power button, reset the device or play with it until it finishes, when finished a message "UPDATE SUCCESS" will appear, now you can safely reset your device
8. who prefer can perform a hard reset after the fresh cook (soon after reset simply press Vol_Down + Circle button, then when you see another simple gray menu choose Vol_Up to confirm format), even if this has no-sense because internal memory is pre-formatted during flash, but... there is always a but... for some unknown "scientific" reason sometimes an hard-reset can save time & headache
Let me know how it goes.
Make sure you have Net framework 3.5 installed on devices.

Can you please be more specific? Are you telling me how to do a hard reset? I tried as to do a hard reset, but it goes back to the bootloader instead of resetting. USB stick?
Thanks all, much appreciated. A pain this can happen, looking at the fact that I did everything exactly as described in all these flashing manuals.

No mate, I never had problems getting into the 3 color screen. The problem was updating afterwards, which never completed without error code 302.
Anyway, I guess I just fully bricked my device after putting SPL-1.40.OliNex (according to the guide at http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=416211) on it. The SPL install was succesful, but when booting I'm now not even getting to see the 3 color bootloader. All I see is the Vodafone logo with some version numbers at the bottom, but that's it. It doesn't boot further on, and I can't get a USB-connection.
Edit:
Volume down + reset brought me in the bootloader again, although it's saying SPL-1.93.OliNex.

u have to only push thoose 2 buttom then it will work because u go to rescue mode
But what will that give me extra? I can access the Hard-SPL 1.93 bootloader (3 color screen), and I can get into USB mode. It's just that the upgrade of both firmwares stop at a certain percentage.
I'm constantly trying to hard reset the device, but after pushing the reset button (with both volumn down + enter pressed down), the device just reboots back into the bootloader and doesn't give me the hard reset warning.

Ok, finally managed to do a hard reset. Afterwards I tried upgrading to the official Vodafone NL 1.97 ROM once more, but it failed at 48% again.
Any ideas what to do? I know have Diamond with Hard-SPL 1.93 (which says upgrade ROM code error) with no working OS.
Ok all, got it finally working again!
Don't ask me why, but flashing the newest Dutty ROM (and the included radio) did work.
Thanks for all your help, and a wonderful evening!
Hi all,
I have a quit similar problem. I've read a lot, but couldn't find an answer to my problem - may bye someone can help me.
I updated my Dimond (OliNex Hard-SPL 1.93, radio 1.09.25.23 and rom dutty V4). When I start my phone most of the time (95% plus) I end up in the color screen - however some time it's starts perfect (without changing anything).
When I get stock in the color screen, I can start the phone with mtty and the command "boot".
What can I do to make my phone always start in the normal way?
Thanks!

i smell a radio issue - last time i was trying to upgrade my radio - ended up with something similar, managed it out like you did - but now you're up - so that's good!!
try some other rom (this time without radio) - i don't think you should have any issues going forward... good luck and have fun!
Afternoon all,
Last night I left my Desire charging as normal, having recently installed the Remote Media App. I suspect it used up all my storage with some sort of indexing process, as I returned to the phone this morning to find it perpetually showing the glinting HTC logo.
A reboot failed to clear it, and booting into recovery mode reveals"E:Error in DATA:data/recovery/log, (No space left on device)"
I've tried connecting to it with adb, but I get the following error
- exec '/system/bin/sh' failed: No such file or directory (2) -
Is there any way out of this bind? I had/have ClockWorkMod recovery installed in order to use ROM Manager, but I'm not terribly clued up on what else is out there on offer.
Any advice would be greatly appreciated.
Kyle
Try rebooting the phone into recovery mode and wipe/factory reset and see if this fixes it?
(Although you will loose all your apps/settings/scenes, though)
This should resolve the problem though.
hehe, there is always that option. I was hoping not to lose texts, settings, etc though this time round. Sadly my backup is more than a few days old.
I was mistaken in thinking I had ClockWorkMods recovery image installed, it appears to have gone back to the default image. I've just discovered a modified recovery ROM from JesusFreke here http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=443041 which may be of use.
Having to wipe and start from scratch again is a disgustingly appaling out of space failure mode. >:-/
bin the phone and use a pineapple
That recovery image is for G1! Don't even think about flashing it.
Even if you have stock recovery, you should still be able to clear storage from HBOOT.
Regards,
Dave
One other thing that might be worth trying is booting the device in safe mode.
Whilst the phone is power down, hold down the menu button and then power on - keep menu held down until the phone is fully booted.
I doubt that it will help in this situation, since clearly /data is completely full, but there's always a slim chance it work.
Regards,
Dave

Thanks for the advice m, I'll be sure to kick you in the nads next time you cross the border
Sadly Safe Mode fails too. The HTC logo appears and glints for a while, and then briefly vanishes just to reappear again. My thumb got sore after 5 minutes of holding the button down
I realised that was a G1 ROM shortly after reading more about it! I see there may be a more suitable recovery ROM at http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=709146 that I can flash. Failing that, then I'll clear storage and consign myself to failure
Wahey! It's sorted! Well, it was sorted a couple of hours ago, but a meeting got in the way

Sorry to dig up an OLD OLD thread, but your "guide" helped me out last night.
In addition to looking for "big" items in the data partition, I also moved some of the Google updates (5meg Maps.apk anyone ?) from /data/app to /system/app ... renaming to overwrite the original version from my Rom.
Thanks Again.
Here's the thing , I unlocked my bootloader and rooted my phone a while back (probably using an already outdated software , if i remembered correctly it was 2.3.3 , but i knew i followed the instructions here
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1133650)
Today, my phone asked if I wanted to update the software (like an automated software update) and i could choose to update or not and i chose yes but now , my phone won't start up for like 3 hours already . I tried turning it on but it won't turn on , i tried charging it but there isn't any lights which was supposed to be there .
So I decided to google it and i followed the instructions here
http://talk.sonyericsson.com/thread/26720
but after installing both , choosing my phone , followin the instructions on update service , it gets stuck on "it contains a modified software that cannot be updated" so decided to come back here to ask you guys what I should do .
Right now , all I want to do is for my phone to start up again , any ideas ?
edit : right now , i took out the battery , and put it back in . This time when I tried to turn it on , the vibrate is there which wasn't there initially and theres 1 flash of the green light on the side of the phone .
and also , i think its recognized by the computer because i can hear the sound notification (the same sound when you plug a USB into a computer) which wasn't there before I did the update service thingy .
edit 2 : it won't go into safemode either when i tried clicked the right and left buttons below the display (the menu and back button) and the power button after that . yes i tried reinserting the battery .
edit 3 : I'm not sure if this'll help but my phone is recognized as SEMC flash device (i checked on device manager) and theres a green colour non flashing light when i plug my phone into the pc .

same problem!!!
Guys, I was trying to modify my phone so that applications would be saved in memory card instead of internal storage, so I rooted it and stuff.. Now it won't turn on!!! When I switch it on, it shows the SE logo and does nothing else.. I tried to enter the safemode menu (holding left and right keys when switching on, or volume down key and home key when turning on) but nothing works!!! I'm like desperate now so any help would be really appreciated!

Try to flash a new(er) kernel with recovery and install a new rom (your phone is ota-bricked, so if that doesn't work, search on XDA)

Anyone No how to fix this spin forever error when you try to boot into recovery mode?
I'm not sure. I would guess it may not be seeing the file its expecting. Make sure you have the files in the correct location.
the file is in the correct location as i just used the same sd card to update my girlfriends a100 with no issues to ICS

What kind of card are you using? That might be playing a factory into your problem.
trandsend these have never given me a problem in any phone or tablet but thanks for the reply
Ok, I'm thinking that the class, speed, and format are the issue. I'm runming a 16GB Cass 10 Patriot formatted in fat32. Makes it fast enough to ensure no timeouts in the background.

Help with spin forever
I need some help with the spin forever error when going into recovery. Nothing seems to work I can't upgrade to ICS cant seem to erase the data for factory reset. The tablet works fine but I would like to upgrade please help with a method to get to stock or custom recovery.
you need to wipe your device
• Switch off
• Press Vol-up + Power
• If display goes on: Release power but hold vol-up
• Toggle Lockswitch (On->Off->On->Off)
I did it a few time before get it right. then it will write something on the screen and reboot really quick.
I did a few thing but that's what seem to fix the bootloop
