scan credit cards on ur android phone - Samsung Epic 4G Touch

apple's freesquare credit card scanner works for android if anyone is interested

is that true? have you used it before? I have never heard of it before.. but that would be awesome

squareup.com I've used it for business and craigslist.

Here's a little bit cheaper option, as well.
http://gopayment.com/

Been using square (squareup.com) for over a year for my business and personal use. It works great. The swiping dongles are free, or $1, i don't remember which. I have a few that I keep in my car and business partner's car so we always have one available.
Once you have your account activated, you can even run cards without swiping them, although it is about a 1/2% higher fee.
Also, my customers love when they get to sign on my phone with their finger, and I email them a receipt with a picture and geolocation tag of where the transaction took place.

I'm waiting for an NFC wallet to pay to an NFC receiver....phone to phone transaction lol

You can buy a Square reader in places like the Apple Store, BestBuy, RadioShack, etc., for about $10. You'll have to pay tax, but the box includes a $10 credit for your account.
You can also request they send you one for free.
Works good. Have used it a few times and have had no issues.
Square is 2.75% flat.
Intuit Swipe appears to be 2.7%, but 3.7% if you manually enter it (type in the card number instead of swiping). They do have a "high volume" account that has a lower percentage rate, but a monthly fee.

A buddy of mine, who owns a cigar shop that I frequent, has square and he loves it. I've been able to watch the shop for him a few times and use it myself, and it's so simple to use.

3.5% + 15¢ per transaction

They will send you the square for free however they get a ridiculous amount off of every transaction

I work for a credit card processor and those rates you guys are spewing are HUGE. They're double what you would pay simply by opening a processing acct and downloading the verifone payware mobile app from the market.
current interchange rate on visa/mc transactions is 1.54%. if you're paying 3.5, you're paying more than double the fees
I agree that the square thing is a cool device but you're really getting torn apart in fees

But you have to remember, with Square the only fee you pay is 2.75% when you swipe the card. No monthly fees, nothing to buy, no startup fees.
So Square is great for a person that may sell stuff on CL or yard sale, or flea market.
I have 4 free readers and I love Square.

I was going to say the same thing.....only advantage being with these it looks like you can drop money into your personal account....I wonder if they give you a 1099 at year end?
PS...I just noticed you are from my area, do you work at EPI?

+1 for square, I use it for my computer repair company.

Also Paypal is starting to do this. The fee is 2.70% and the money is in your Paypal account right away. Ive used both and have had no problem. If I had to pick I would pick Paypal because the money is there right away.
Its called Paypal Here.

From the 2nd galaxy

you guys that think the price for transaction is too high do realize you can simply charge 3% more for your transaction than you were going too to absorb the cost. Its just an alternative if the 3% is too much for you. Of course on larger ticketed items it may not be as easy but you can still inflate price some to cover fees

Get AT&T Tilt 2 Free + $25 phone credit toward accessories

Im new to this forum, well at least to posting. Been flashing roms to my At&T tilt for over 2 years now.
Anyways im sharing this because its cool and also out of selfishness=)
I got my Tilt 2 completly free with free shipping from http://www.letstalk.com it was linked through HTC's website. You can order online or through phone, but you have to be one of these
1. a New AT&T customer and sign up for a plan +smartphone data plan OR
2. a existing customer up for contract renewel and add smartphone data plan to your existing plan which is $30/month.
and
3. Must keep plan +data plan for at least 6 months otherwise they send you a "recovery" bill of $250. (since you must keep a plan for at least 6months for them to get a commission fee)
So yes my tilt came in the mail today, and heres the selfish part.
If you email me your e-mail address to [email protected], I can have letstalk.com send you an email for "refer a friend" program(just include your e-mail address). I get $25 for accessories and you get$25 off a phone purchase or accessories.
The rep told me they have new deals that last a week, starting every tuesday. As the looks of it, it seems as the deal is still good online.
Either way, you can get the free tilt with or without a referal, but if you want the $25 send me an email=)

Its listed as $99, add it to your basket, itll say equipment cost $99.
Click next, itll ask you to select a voice plan, select one.
Now your basket will say Equipment cost $0
Monthly cost $=voiceplan cost +$30 data plan cost
So its free that way. Hmm i didnt get a sd card with mine, doesnt matter 4gb is too little, I use 16gb=)
Remember if you want $25 toward accessories send me your e-mail and I can have letstalk.com send you a $25 credit if you sign up!

Android Market Complaint

I am happy to buy apps that I think are worth the money but I think it's totally unfair for google to have apps priced in Dollers / Euro's for UK people.
The reason being, if I were to purchase an app for say 99 Cents or $1.99 or Euros, I get charged £1.50 fee by the bank.
Surely google checkout can convert the price to the location of the phone / user and avoid extra charges on top?
You need to speak to your bank cos it sounds Like your being ripped off .. the 1.50 fee only normally applies to atm withdrawals . The most I've been charged for an app at 99c or $1 is around 4p extra think it should be standard so u need to take it up with ur bank !

My bank deem the transactions as currency conversion as it's $ or Euro's to sterling.
I can't see why Google checkout cannot just sort it at their end.
I'd change your greedy bank mate! Mine does not charge for converting and the conversion rate should take into account costs.

Interesting. I only use credit cards for online transactions, just to get that extra bit of cover. Actually another factor... my credit cards are the "Airmiles Duo", so one mastercard and one AMEX, and it's the AMEX card I generally use for Google Checkout. Don't know whether that's a factor

The amount taxed is based on your billing address, and it is also based on your plan, the more your plan costs, the higher the taxes.
"So how to reduce your cell phone bill taxes?
Well, from the above example, most cell phone carries such as TMobile, At&T , Verizon and Sprint do not seem to base their taxes on the billing address of their customers but instead base it on the area code of their customers cell phone. So, if you want to lower your cell phone taxes, look up our cell phone taxes by state article and find a state with the lowest cell phone bill tax and call up your cell phone provider and do the needful."
Source - http://www.askstudent.com/money/how-to-reduce-your-cell-phone-bill-cell-phone-taxes/
I pay over $30 in taxes on my bill alone, no hope, no change in my pocket.
I can tell you first hand that the Sprint bases the taxes on the address for each device on your plan. When I first got Sprint Service, my wife and I lived in San Francisco and the taxes in the city of SF are about $15 a year. When we moved to Alameda, I changed the billing address which happens to also be the address on the main line of the bill. From that point on until 3 months ago I was paying $15 for my wife's taxes and $5 for mine. When I added the Wireless Modem to the plan it got an Alameda Address and became the middle line on the phone. When I moved to Lincoln, which at the time didn't have a cell phone tax for the city, but the county did, my taxes on my line were like $2, the Modem was $5 and my wife's was $15. My best friend noticed something similar on his bill and we both called customer service at the same time. He was done in 20 minutes and got a credit 3 days later for two years worth of the taxes. He asked me if I wanted to talk to his rep but was on hold with my rep and said no. Big mistake. I have called a dozen times since and I am still waiting for something to happen. Keep in mind that at $15 a month (the estimated amount I was over charged) that is equal to one entire billing cycle at $129 + 49 + current taxes. Keep in mind that I updated my billing address each time I moved. This is all Sprint's issue.

Can you please provide some proof to back this up? The charges that Sprint is allowed to add beyond the service plan offerings is regulated at the Federal, State and Local levels and those rules are precise on exactly what and how those charges can be added to the bill. There is nothing in any of Sprint's contracts that state they charge more for people who haven't established or do not have good credit. A surcharge is in no way shape or form something a carrier or anyone else can charge in place of a deposit. There are strict Federal, State and Local laws regulating how deposits must be handled, including how they must be kept by the person collecting them, what type of account they must be kept in and how they are to handle the interest that they accrue. This varies by industry but for the most part have a common set of rules. Violating these rules in any way would get them in deep trouble with multiple federal, state and local regulations not to mention open them up for a horribly large class action lawsuit.

Smart ASAP response aside I asked you to backup your statement. This is the problem with the net since the beginning of the eternal September. Snide comments in a friendly conversation are really uncalled cor and are not really helpful to anyone. All they do is cause tension and drama. God, I long for the days before AOL offered the internet without any instructions or training wheels.

Read 'em and weep: cell phone taxes by state. I live in WA state so OUCH!
I HATE the fees that they basically say:
"These are not taxes or mandated fee's, these are simply fee's we charge to help pay our bills"
Well, WTF is the rest of my money? They should just add those into the plans.
but then they would actually be more expensive

So when we purchase the phone at Bestbuy they give us a $50 gift card on top of the phone freedom gift card? I can't find anything on Bestbuy's website that says that. Already signed up for the phone freedom promotion. Would love 50 more dollars.
Think I'm going to jump on this deal.
I was trying to hold out for a 32gb phone over the 16 but I just got a 64 gb SD card as well. Considering at this point it would cost another $100 to get the extra 16 gb, it just doesn't make much sense to wait, IMO.
Also, I can find nothing strange about the Wirefly agreement other than you have 14 days to return it to them if you don't like it as opposed to taking it back to a Sprint store.
What says yous?

I don't see it on the website either, but it is the same promotion they've been offering on the Evo LTE. This is what they offered me in-store. Not sure about online sales.
When ahead and got this deal. I should get $50 cash back from my bank as well.
That puts me at $100 for the device. It's a blue 16GB version. But for $150 less than a white 32GB version, I can live with it.
Even at $50 difference between the 16 and 32 it's just not worth it when you consider I just got a brand new SanDisk 64GB card for $50.
Their web site says they are shipping tomorrow, but I highly doubt that.

I think you are talking about the fact that the phone needs to be connected on the same line for at least 6 months:
"By accepting the ISD, you agree to keep your account in good standing and keep your wireless plan and features as activated for at least 180 days.
You agree to repay $200 of this discount ($400 for smartphones, tablets, and netbooks) and authorize us to charge your credit card in repayment of this amount if, you signed up for a 2 year agreement and during the 181 days after your new equipment is activated, your carrier notifies us that the services you purchased have been suspended, disconnected, or deactivated, or if you return your purchase outside of the return and exchange provisions of our 14-day Satisfaction Guarantee.
Please note some of the reasons your carrier may notify us of a deactivation include if:
You transfer this equipment to another line of service after it is activated
You change your rate plan to a lower monthly service rate than was specifically required at the point of purchase
You deactivate texting/data features that were specifically required at the point of purchase
The new line of service activated with your order is used to replace a pre-existing account"
if only i had an upgrade :/

good luck...its very rare forthat to happen...

In case you didn't know.. (CORP discounts RETAIN unlimited!)

So I've been with Verizon for years, long before I accepted a job as a Microsoft consultant which many know, provides reduced rates in the form of discounts. The one I happen to have acquired some time back is a $20 "unlimited everything" as a MS employee with Verizon. I also recieve 20% off the top of the total plan as well. When I went from 3g to 4g, they basically grandfathered me on the same discount (as I'm still a MS consultant), but made me purchase a text package because what was previously "unlimited data + messaging" became simply "unlimited data". No biggie, give me the $10 text package and call it good.
Well I just discovered that if you get a Corporate Discount (Amazong/Boeing/Microsoft,etc), chances are you can STILL remain grandfathered under true unlimited. The exception would be for tablets.
Thought this would be worth sharing because as savvy as I thought I was, I had no idea was still the case. So the Galaxy Nex I just bought online wasn't a complete waste, but knowing I can go back and take another upgrade without changing my plan is HUGE, at least for me!
it depends on the corp discount contract vzw has with the company. some may not retain anything except the discount.
only reason i know this, i used to work at vzw :/
Good point, each individual should contact Verizon and find out what Corporate discount they have, and whether it's still being honored. In fact, the gal at Verizon today told me the Boeing one went away (remaining grandfathered), but Microsoft retained theirs. She even advised I could turn my sons dumb phone (2nd line on my plan, currently just call/text) into a smart and get the same $20 deal. The exception, obviously the tablets.
Glad VZW is giving discount to these corporations like Microsoft who so badly need them lol.
They must have taken a card from hospitals, who ruin people lives with more debt than they can possibly pay and then turn around and subsidize costs paid by the insurance companies.

pro tip from someone who works in the healthcare industry: always ask for the no insurance amount. it might be cheaper than your deductible/co-ins
self pay usually has a stupid high discount as hospitals assume you will not pay.
Yeah well my employer doesn't cover my mobile expenses so what they make and what they deserve only matters to the extent of what it means to me, hence the share.
