Just wipe when you flash a new ROM.. - Verizon Droid Incredible 2

Just like the title says.. Do a full wipe when you get a new ROM or upgrade.. its really irritating when people ask if they need to, then someone doesn't, gets a million and one fc's and can't figure out why... It's not that hard people.. backup your stuff and spend the 5/10 min restoring it.. don't have time because of work or family??? There is this magical thing called a bathroom.. use it... By the time you are done, your phone is restored back to normal. I honestly don't care if you want to try without reflashing, but then don't report bugs if you choose to do that.

Kernel Manager Eating Up Free Space on Phone

I haven't seen anything online about this problem... but I installed Kernel Manager today from the Market and tried downloading the Tiamat kernel for CM7. It downloaded just fine, and then it upacked it and started to flash it. The flashing process took forever, so after about 5 minutes I started looking at my phone and noticed a low memory notification. The one that says you are running out of phone storage. I then pulled up Disk Usage to see where it was all going and Kernel Manager was growing and taking up all my phone's memory. I think the app itself was 74 kb?? Something like that? And then while it was "flashing" the data for Kernel Manager was up to 115MB. Then everything on my phone started FCing and I had to reboot.
Anybody seen this problem with the newest update? I'm running 1.1.2.
Delete that bs and install kernels the big boy way; grab the zip then flash in recovery and reboot unless you like apps holding your hand and eating up free space

I had the exact same thing happen to me a month ago or so. Not with the kernel manager, but it was from the teamwin hdmi app trying to install the modified kernel, and it hung up in the process. Then I had a notification of low memory. Then I rebooted and it hung at the splash, lol. Had to nandroud restore. I never let an app flash anything after that. And that was the only time I tried.

Now that seems a little extreme. Taking up space? The app is 350 KB. I'm sure you would never miss it.
Holding my hand? Oh you mean like Rom Manager? Do you still browse online and download one at a time?
I don't have a problem flashing the kernel myself. I like the interface to download and browse kernels. But there is obviously something up with the flashing process. I wish you could choose to just download the kernel and flash it myself.

Yes rom manager also holds peoples hands. I just download via my xda app its easy as pie. Plus flashing kernels in recovery is proven to be better in the sense that KM can fail the flash process sometimes and cause issues. I have my personal reasons why I will NEVER use rom manager on my phone but that's not important . As I've seen around km is definitely having issues with its flashing process with some kernels and it seems that shinzul has been addressing them very fast. If you could choose and download the kernel "yourself" wouldnt that be the same thing as getting it and going to recovery lol? Thus taking us back to square one of km manager being useless?

No, square one was the question being asked by the OP. I don't use ROM Manager either, not for any specific reason, but I suppose if I was still flashing ROMs like a mad man I would consider it. What's so bad about KM housing multiple kernels in one location so you can get a quick and easy glance at your options instead of hunting them down? Or for that matter, ROM Manager.
It's also not 'holding your hand' when you've been down the road multiple times. I tend to peek my way through kernel / ROM threads just for the sake of finding out any possible issues ... but some people just want to get in, flash, get out and be done with it. I, honestly, don't see the problem with it.
As for the OP, not sure what to say as I've had no problems flashing kernels from KM.

Exactly. The only reason I like a ROM/Kernel manager is to have them all in the same place and easy to download. It makes it easier to look at the list of features each one offers, and see reviews/complaints. I dont need anyone to flash anything for me. I can do that on my own. I just want an easy way to download them. The only problem is you can't ONLY download with KM, you have to download and flash.

Not useless at all. I understand if you would rather spend time flipping through forum pages trying to find the download link. That's your choice. Having it in an organized list with specs is my choice. I definitely would not call it useless -- it'll actually save you time.

How to remove bloatware and extend battery life?

MY PHONE IS FULLY ROOTED BUT ILL BE A MAN AND ADMIT IVE ALWAYS BEEN TO AFRAID TO FLASH CUSTOM ROMS. I SEE ALOT OF PEOPLE ON HERE ALWAYS HAVING ISSUES WHEN THEY DO SO AND IT JUST SEEMS TO COMPLICATED FOR ME TO FIGURE OUT TO DEAL WITH THE PROBLEMS. BUT I WAS WONDERING IF THERE IS AWAY I CAN MAKE MY BATTERY LAST LONGER WITHOUT FLASHING A CUSTOM ROM AND ALSO WHAT APP DO I USE TO REMOVE ALL THESE DUMBASS APPS SPRINT PRELOADED ON MY PHONE?
Sent from my PC36100
its not that hard, but for now, the app you use for bloatware is titanuim backup, its like your best friend after your nandroid backup, with titanium what you do is install it, it will probably say you dont have root but its ok, after it says that you will see a box at the bottom of screen that says problems?, click it it will ask you to install busybox, hit yes, after that app will be ready to use. so then you go to back up/restore and all you do is click what ever app you want to remove, but instead of uninstall you hit freeze, that way the app gets dissabled but its still there in case you ever need it.
also dont forget before you make any big changes on your phone, always make a nandroid or rom backup from recovery, so you have a fall back in case of emergency
First off, turn caplocks off, We can, and everyone else outside of a 3rd grade education can read lowercase letters just fine, thank you.
and second. if your phone is fully rooted it's really INSANELY easy to install a custom rom. but, there are guides for that so, I won't "bore" you.
For uninstalling bloatware, I love Titanium Backups, even donated for the Pro version that doesn't really unlock a whole lot that I use, I just use it so much I wanted to support the developer.
in Titanium Backups, select the middle tab up top, a list of ALL your apps will show up, you can choose to browse through them or search for a specific program. once you find it, back a backup first. Then uninstall.
word to the wise, be very careful what you uninstall, even if you think you won't ever use something like say.. "Stock" The stock market app.... uninstalling that can bork your phone, at least it did with previous versions of Sense based Roms, I have no idea if it still does it with an updated version. But, just a word to the wise.
Ok first thanks for the quick replys. I downloaded the premium version and it did exzactly what i asked so thank you both very much.
Now to get off Thread topic for a minute. To the turn off caplocks comment...anyone outside of 3rd grade can read lowercase letters. I dont do alot of customizing to my phone so i dont get on here alot but when i do it seems like someone always has something smart to say. Not just my threads but all of em. Wether someone ask a question that has already been asked or someone mispells a word or some post something 5 minutes later then someone else. I seriously think some people just get on here to ***** and nit pick over every little thing. This is just a forum and the evo is just a damn phone.. If someone hits capslock or repeats a thread guess what....the damn worlds not gona end! Put down the phome and turn off your computer and xbox go outside and do something with your girlfriend (if you have one) and chill the hell out!

Miui issues: laggy, missing google shortcuts, more

Hey guys,
Despite my post title, I really like MIUI a lot (I'm on Evo with 1.5.20). It's been extremely stable for me, no FCs and the interface is very clean in a way that I like. Its been fine as a daily driver for me and I just have a few issues that are preventing me form staying with it, but I thought I'd ask for help/feedback first:
1) Lagginess: Everything I read about MIUI said it was blazing fact, but on my evo, i find its a bit slow. It doesn't "stutter" in the middle of things like my stock rom, but it just is slow moving. Any feedback on whether this is normal or if I have a setting wrong?
2) Google shortcuts: I used to have shortcuts directly to gmail folder/labels so I could jump right into some filtered email. Now I don't see this capability in MIUI or any direct navigation or call shortcuts, etc. Why?
3) 3G speed: My 3g seems slower and laggy as well. Web pages often get stuck at 10% and then take a long time to resume and load. Any idea why?
4) Bluetooth: I get occasional bluetooth drops if I try to do something else on the phone while talking. For example, I took a business call today, then fired up wifi to look something up while talking and my bluetooth dropped.
5) Sounds/themes: the range of sounds seems limited or not to my liking and the downloadable themes look to "Asia" to me. Any way to get better system sounds and more clean, americanized themes?
6) Clock timer: I used my stock stopwatch or minute timer when BBQing all the time and was shocked to find there isn't one on MIUI. Is here an update or do you just use another app?
Thanks in advance for any help. Despite the list above, its really somethign I am very happy with and haven't had the urge to reflash, but I would like to get these last issues resolved.
Try a reboot that happened to me and a reboot fixed it

Thanks Killa, but I've rebooted before. it's not hugely slow, but sure as heck isn't blazingly fast as many reviews indicated.
Just curious, what did you wipe before you flashed? A few of the issues are common with people who flash a new ROM without wiping. Did you use Calikulin's format all?

I went into recovery, wiped both cache's and did a factory data reset. I don't get any (well, very few) FC's and the phone runs just fine, its just slower than I expected.
You might want to back everything up and use either calks format all or virus superwipe. What recovery are you using? Clockwork had a problem not fully wiping, I dont know if that is still the case. I use amon-ra recovery, myself.

Using clockwork. The problem with half this rooting stuff is everyone is using different tools and its tricky to find where to download them all. A lot of threads and links end up being outdated.
If you have rom manager you can switch to amon-ra through the application. The option is at tge bottom it says flash.alternate recovery, that is amon-ra. You can get calk's format all zip from his threads he has a couple. You can also search by author of thread. His handle is calukin.

[Q] Gun Bros not working on cm7?

I recently rooted my htc incredible and I have it on the cm7 rom. I love the rom and I am very happy with everything about it. However Gun Bros does not open up. I click on the app it goes to a black screen as if it is trying to load up and after about 3 seconds it just goes back to the home screen of my phone. No force close pop up or anything. Any explinations or possible fixes? I have read other threads and posts but everything is around phones that just cant support it. Mine worked fine before the root now its just taking up space.
Try running fix permissions in rom manager and reboot.
I did try running the fix permissions and reboot. I should have put that in the first post. I guess the fix permissions and reboot would be like the classic pull the battery method so it was one of the first things I tried. I even tried making a new rom of the same cm7 as well as some others... do you know if any of the cm roms will support it or open it? I dont want a sense rom or even a nonsense rom. I like cm a lot and I have everything customized and set up the way I want it. I guess I'm just looking to know can Gun Bros be played or am I just out of luck? lol
When I ran cm gun bros worked..try uninstalling and reinstalling gun bros..maybe it was a bad download or a bad restore from titanium backup or my backup root or whatever you use
/Dinc
Gun bros works fine on my phone which is running latest MIUI which is also an AOSP rom like CM7. If I were you I'd uninstall gun bros, delete any files it leaves behind and reinstall it.
did you get it working brandon??
so the ass above me is the one who rooted my phone and I blame him. I have unistalled and re installed gun bros multiple times and it still does not work. Guess I'm going to have to find a new game to play... dont want to give up but it seems like my phone hates me.
Rooting has nothing to do with the app.. like stated above probably a bad download...
Sent from my Incredible using XDA Premium App
You say rooting has nothing to do with the app but that is hard to believe. It worked before the root and does not now that the root has been done. I'm sure we can all agree that backing up and using a restore through titanium backup is very much part of the rooting process. Like I said before I have in installed and really downloaded the game many times and still no luck. However I can restore my stock ROM and the game works fine. Just not after I boot into my new ROM.

So if i have unistalled gun bros multiple times and re installed it many times and my phone will not open the game still what would be causing it still. I understand it could have been a bad restore at first but why would my phone not ruin the app after a completely new download?

Battery and Clock Color

Hey everybody, First Post, Whoop whoop lol Anyway on with the show, I just flashed over to The gingersnap 1.24 Rom from Juggernaut 5.0, reinstalled everything from titanium backup all normal like, and then ran into a little issue with my clock and battery percentage settings... for some reason they are staying green like I had set before and i cannot for the life of me figure out #1. Why this happened/What changed it and #2 How to change it again... I really try not to bother people on here with stupid question but I'm perplexed by this one and was hoping someone might be able to help me figure it out, i attached a picture of what exactly I'm talking about.
Thanks in advance for anytime anyone is willing to put into this
When you say "reinstalled everything using titanium backup, " does that imply you restored system data? If so, don't restore system data ever. Just restore apps and application data.

I have found in titanium settings if I enable migrate system data that it will sometimes work across different ROMs, but still never a sure thing. Usually best between same ROM with updated Android components. I have had it work between totally different ROMs as well sometimes. You can also choose to auto integrate sys dalvick too. These have to both be enabled before you run backup to be effective.
This is just my thoughts and advice be prepared with full nandroid backup, and to test different settings as you may have different setup and things to consider.
I AM NOT RESPONSIBLE FOR WHAT YOU CHOOSE TO DO WITH YOUR OWN PERSONAL DEVICE. RUN FULL BACKUPS WHENEVER YOU TRY ANYTHING.
