Tango leaked features found today! - Windows Phone 7 General

http://wmpoweruser.com/more-tango-and-budget-windows-phone-features-screen-shots-leaked/
Looks like we might be able to send pictures and music over the sms soon!
Not many features revealed in that post, but looks like they got hands on some low-end devices too!
6GB storage for those who don't need to spend a lot of money on phone storages - I think it's a good idea to target feature phone market users with cheaper smart phones.

The sending of video & sound recordings will be nice. Just having a built in sound recorder separate from onenote will be a welcome addition for many.
Assuming this is true. I don't doubt those functions are coming in the near future even if the leak is "fake".

I spotted an option to create a new APN. I hope it will be as fully fledged as it is on Android so that I could use WP7 on Straight Talk.

WTF, afaik SGH-i917 aka Focus has 512MB of RAM.

Hmm I really hope there will be VPN support as well.

We get options for 4-6GB but no 32GB in sight. Are you freaking kidding me?

knew you were gonna say that. The larger storage options are coming with Apollo in the form if removable storage. Its unlikely that these low end phones will go outside of developing nations or the PayGo realm.

I could not agree more. Any WP7 device should come with at least 32gb today, nevermind 64gb. Crap even the music I want to carry at all times is around 30gb, never mind a few movies or podcasts... Even 32gb is limited for me.

I love the one "Export Contacts to SIM"

They are bringing SD card support officially so the newer generation will have card slots and if a some good minds at XDA get together all the previous Gens can get bigger cards also without a issue. Plus how many Android phones have more than 8 or 16gb storage built in storage right now hardly none and that is the more popular platform right now. You need a external to actually have memory on your android.
Besides the iPhone 4S and the Nokia N9 there are no other 64gb built-in smartphones and don't look for known either unless its from Apple or Nokia. Samsung already canceled there 32gb Nexus

Can anyone confirm tht this is not a fake?

Official: AT&T Samsung Focus S has 16GB of non-expandable storage

So there you go, 2nd gen phones are officially a failure and yes you can call me a hater I don't care.
Microsoft killed the Zunes so they should have made it mandatory that every OEM offers at least one 32GB+ model. If you want people to ditch their PMP give them a good reason to or they might end up ditching it for an iPhone.
http://www.wpcentral.com/it-s-official-samsung-focus-s-has-16gb-non-expandable-storage
Edit: Let me just temper that by saying they're a failure mostly for us who already have a 1st gen phone. I guess for 1st time buyers there is some incentive but not so much (no extra storage, no microSD support, no hardware keyboard)
Ah well. Looks like I'll just hang onto my original Focus. Too bad about this.

Same here, I will stay with my OMNIA 7.
For 1st gen device owners it´s not very interesting to buy a 2nd gen device.
In my eyes a marketing failure...
Personally I don´t need more storage than 16GB and who is using permanently the FFC ?
I always used only simple voip calls without video and besides I absolutely like my OMNIA 7.
Yet another wp7 phone with disappointing specs and insufficient storage.
Finally I am not really surprised if WP7 is failing.
People who love media and need decent storage will probably move to Android or iOS.
I don't care because I'm waiting for the Nokia dual core 4+" Amoled screen LTE Tango phone that will hopefully be here before Q2 of next year.... And if it isn't, I'll just get an Apollo phone in Q4 of 2012 because my focus is still doing a great job and I can wait till then if necessary.

I think you mean apollo? Lol. Color me surprised about this phone. These oems are not clueless though. They simply don't care since the old hardware they're using is cheap ad hell and majority of their sales are on android. Samsung sales more bada devices than wp7 at this point. These devices are failing heard at what was supposed be their strongest feature (doubling up as a Zune HD).
I don't see how they expect the devices to sell as a Zune HD replacement, or as a device that is competitive to any of the current high-end smart phones when the OEMs provide sub-par specs on every new WP device. Count me as another one that is sticking with my Focus... and I would have upgraded to the Focus S if they had put a decent amount of local storage in. I'm constantly shuffling things on/off my Focus with 24 GB now, so I'm not going with a smaller storage device.
They don't really have any excuses for the skimping either, as the current GS2 comes in 16 or 32 GB local storage. They've put a cheaper single-core processor in already (and I understand the reasons there), but the Focus S is selling for the same price as a GS2... so there's no excuse to also cut back local storage. This is quite disappointing, as I had already ruled out Nokia's current offerings because of the lack of FFC and small screen size.
I don't want to wait until generation 3 of WP before getting a new device, but the next possibility looks to be the Nokia 900 sometime in the first half of next year. MS really needs to get the OEMs in hand and have them put out devices that have competitive hardware to the other platforms (iPhone 4S, Samsung GS2, Nokia N9, etc.), or they need to start producing their own devices ala XBox. They can't do much worse than the OEMs, as every new device has been a disappointment in one area or another. At this point, I'd be happy if we were getting clones of Android device hardware.

If my current Focus was limited to 16GB like the Focus S is, it would be nearly full. And that's without videos. Fortunately my current Focus has the ability of expanding up to 40GB. That's worth a lot to me.
I think I will overlook any new WP7 hardware until MS gets real with it.

You replaced the internal SD-Card, right ?
I thought this is only possible for HD7 users...
In that case it would be very stupid if you buy a 2nd gen device...
Why anybody would need more than 16gb is beyond me. I have pretty much every app that I can think of installed and I still have 5 GB left.
No need to put pictures and songs because you can easily have those on the cloud.

Actually, unless the AT&T version of the HD7 is different, the Focus is immediately accessable to switch cards out, whereas the HD7 is not and requires a warranty voiding disassembly. The Focus doesn't come with a card and requires users to buy a card separately. But the access to the slot is as open and easy as any Android hardware. A 32GB card is my next option, which will give me 40GB with the internal 8GB.

Unfortunately for AT&T users, the Cloud is not a viable option because of the limited data service. I would never use it anyway for media. And 2GB of data each month is too small to constantly be streaming music and videos with.

The only way I would feel comfortable streaming is with unlimited data.
5GB is pretty tough to run out while streaming music unless you are doing it hours without end. T-mobile has a 10GB option and you'd still be paying less and with better speeds than AT&T.

In the UK only one maybe two carriers offer over 500MB. Even if that wasn't the case, you don't get 100% coverage so you can't rely exclusively on the cloud. Not to mention scenarios where you travel or damage to your battery. I don't like calling people stupid but some should seriously think about what they say (not addressing you, just some previous posters). Everything on the cloud, really?
Until the industry can produce a battery that can last 40 to 50 hours while streaming on data or WiFi, the Cloud will never be a viable alternative to internal storage for media playing. As it is right now, my iPhone 4 gets 40 hours for music playing and 10 hours for video playing. My Focus gets probably at least 20 hours music playing. Music playing combined with streaming would knock it down to a few hours at best.
When I stream it has little effect on my battery

Want to buy a window 7 phone(tmobile)

I need help picking, I love the radar 4g and the lumia 710 but they don't support micro SD card!(8g of memory won't work for me). Im thinking about getting the dvp(dell venue pro) but I need some window phone owner input!.
Don't want to purchase an unlock phone due to me not being able to use 3G or 4G.
I will be purchasing this phone second hand due to the fact window 8 phone around the corner just want to spend sometime with a window phone to see how it goes! Thanks

There's a good thread here that is worth reading.
If you decide to get a DVP, make sure you are familiar with the process before changing the micro SD card - there are lots of threads about this topic on the DVP forum. You can expand the capacity to 32GB by replacing the micro SD card.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/forumdisplay.php?f=799
There are different versions of the DVP for AT&T and T-Mobile. It may not matter as much if you can't use 3G but worth mentioning.
The DVP was my second wp7 device and after they fixed all of the bugs was a major love affair. Had Nokia not brought such outstanding offerings to the table, I'd still be using the DVP, that thing was a beautiful tank.
Look on Craigslist for an HD7...you can upgrade to 32GB and it has the latest software...unless T-Mo comes out with something slick, I'll be rocking this for quite a while!
Will be looking into both device. Anyone else want to put in there two cents?
Sent from my myTouch_4G_Slide using xda premium
My vote goes to the DVP. I get the privilege of using a lot of devices, and after Mango the DVP is still my favourite WP7 device. It's heavy and the camera is pretty mediocre, but it oozes quality and is the only portrait QWERTY slider available. Helps that the keyboard is awesome, too!
Also, they're very cheap these days. Especially the T-Mobile banded ones.
The DVP looks really boss. I didn't get one basically because I was unsure about the presence of the Italian locale and the 256mbs of RAM got me worried. Also, I didn't really rely on Dell's commitment to WP7, so I was unsure about the update pattern. The 710 is a good and reliable phone too, it has Nokia goods on board and the screen is actually ok. The design is a little uninspiring tho. Just personal opinion, my gf actually likes it better than my 800, she finds it too squared 0.o

IMHO they use it only because they are very accustomed to it. Last summer I tried using a 9780 for a few days and coming from a Desire I found it the most painful phone experience I ever had. The interface is unintuitive as hell, you need to hit the keys dozens of times just to do things that can be done in a couple of taps even on the worse Symbian device. The browser is pathetic, everything keeps lagging and freezing 24/7 and there are no decent apps at all. Also, if you lack BIS and BES this phone is as good as a 3310. Lame, horrid experience. I wouldn't recommend it to anyone, it's a nightmare. Maybe the newer phones (like the 9900) are better, but forget about having any support: they won't be updated to BBOS10, and probably RIM will manage to fail even before the end of 2012.

The HD7 is a solid phone,I've been rocking it since November. Only problem I have with it is if I'm in my house or bedroom especially when trying to stream something, if I put my hand anywhere near the base my connection drops to 2G. Probably has something to do with the trees around my brick house or the poor antenna in the phone.

Yes, of course, assuming you don't buy one that is SIM-locked to a different carrier for some reason.
Note that if you want lots of hacks, the Venue Pro is not a good choice. As far as I know, we haven't even managed to interop-unlock it yet. The HD7 (and most other gen1 phones, but not the Venue Pro) can use custom ROMs and WP7 Root Tools.

Windows Surface Phone.. would you?

If MSFT were to enter the WP8 game with Windows Surface Phone or MSFT Surface Phones range would you buy it?
Just a wild wild dream.. because:
a) The launch of surface range has created a buzz on even iForums and DroidForums.
b) The tech guys generally have liked it
c) It has met the hype
d) It looks sexy and we know it will perform much better than we think
e) Windows branding might be the reason for no traction, Surface branding seems to be taken positively
so.. could Windows Phone 8 be the Microsoft Surface Phones? or just Surface Phones?
PS: I love the Surfaces (will get one on the release day!) and whole heartedly hope the new new new iPad doesn't copy Surface and come up with the same and better pad.
Why do we know it will work better than we think?
Probably because WP7 worked alot better than people gave it credit for .

Don't get me wrong... I'm thrilled about Surface
I would just prefer a Nokia... I like the aesthetics they design.
I'm definately tempted by the RT version of Surface especially if it gets priced correctly
There is one important difference between "Surface" Devices by Microsoft and "Nexus" Devices by Google. The Nexus devices have the benefit of being updated more regularly and earlier than competitors devices. It is highly unlikely that Microsoft will push update to their devices earlier. For Windows 8 it is a given that those will get Updates the same time everyone else does (second tuesday every month) and WinRT is likely to do it the same way.
And as Microsoft succeeded at least with Mango to push it worldwide around the same time I guess they would not stray from that path with new Windows Phones.
Given the partnership between Microsoft and Nokia I believe they will be relying on Nokia for their lead devices, given that Nokia has an All In Approach to the OS.
So I don't see it happening and if it were it would be a really good question why I would go with the Surface Phone instead of a Nokia (unless they build something that blows a PureView Nokia out of the water).
they gonna charge $600 and $800 for the thing... i think it is a way better deal than an iPad.

I am looking at Samsung Slate Series also. They had some quite "wow" device at the Windows 8 Release Preview Launch.
keynote
watch the keynote from 13:30 to 14:30.
either the hardware is underperforming or the software is still beta.
neat concept. too bad about the bootloader.
Its still Beta, even the consumer preview has some major quirks.
One big issue is gaming and swiping, swipe anywhere near the top of the screen and you'll bring up the multi tasking window, thus ruining your game.
Sent from my Nexus S using Tapatalk 2
I am looking it in a way what Steve said "Harmony of software with hardware". Can Nokia really know better hardware for MSFT software than MSFT itself? They are only partners after all. Also, am I the only one who thinks Surface devices are going to stand out in the sea of Lumias? However, Nokia do come up with plenty of classy designs from time to time.

Moving off the Nitro

Well the time has come for me to switch phones. It's been a good run with the Nitro. It's not the best Android phone I've used but its certainly the best screen I've used.

I've been wanting to upgrade to either the S3 or the Nexus 4, but I'm having such a hard time deciding. The pros and cons of each phone makes it a hard decision. N4 doesn't have SD card expansion or LTE capability, but the S3's screen is mildly inferior (by the technical specs anyway) and the non-international version is only a dual core; not much different than our P930... The sad part is that after 3 hours of research I am still at a dead-even split between the two!
I'm going with Nexus 4 first of all because of the price. ($350, are you kidding me?) Secondly, I know I'll be able to hold down my storage usage if I offload my device backups, sync music to Play Music, use YouTube as the primary video source, and keep my podcast cache down (very tough lol, never enough time to listen to everything). I'm also getting a tablet which is what I'll be using primarily for video content. It's going to be tough, but I'll manage. I might just have to start using my various cloud storage options as well. With T-mobile, I'll be able to have unlimited data, so I shouldn't have any issues where I can't stream content.

I have a 32GB card right now that almost entirely consists of music and ROMS; both backups and the original zip. I only have maybe 5-10 pictures and no videos, but I use Ubuntu One for them anyway. I only have about 2GB free and I just don't see how I'd do it having 10GB LESS (SD card only registers 27.8GB available.) Eh, my brain hurts, I'm gonna go take an Aleve and rest before my head explodes.
I had a 32GB microSD card in my Nitro as well but I have since moved all of my music to Amazon Cloud (paid for the matching thing like iTunes Match). I then download a small subset of my music to the device to listen to without using data but can also listen to my entire library if I want to.

I haven't thought about doing that... I believe instead of making this hard decision I'm just gonna forget about it and stick with the current bread and butter until a decisively better choice becomes apparent.
Well for anybody in Canada and potentially T-Mobile in the US, there's some good news about the Nexus 4. It supports LTE on band 4 (1700/2100) with no hardware modifications. As I was planning on switching to T-Mobile anyway, I couldn't be more excited about this news
I have a 32gb too. Where I live, I can't consider cloud services too much because cellular data speeds are not really stable and my wifis are shared.

As a semi-new member to the Nitro HD just wanted to say Thank You for taking time out of your life to contribute to this phone!
Have fun with your iPhone 5 / Nexus 4!
Hope you enjoy your new phone. I enjoyed the nitro HD but switched out about 3 months ago when I switched companies. I now have have the S3 on simple mobile. I cannot count on the n4 as the storage options do not satisfy my needs. Well k hope you enjoy your new device!

I read that somewhere but I thought that was just a limited time promotion or something...

It is a limited time offer and the offer ends by the end of this year! However, the 50GB storage space last forever.

On sale ebay $199 32gb with touch cover.

I couldn't resist this deal but reading the reviews now was it really a good buy?

It was a hell of a deal, much better than most of us who have them got it for. You're asking us to tell you, after the fact, if it was wise? That's between you, your use cases, and your money. You should always know what you're buying, whather it costs $2 or $200...
With that said, if your use cases are anything close to what the tablet is good at, yeah, that's a hell of a steal.
Primarily movies and streaming media like tv shows and stuff.

Quite good for that, though you might want to get a microSD card if you want to store movies locally. Those will use up the internal storage quickly.
Yeah, this is a good price. Probably a student or teaching staff that's flogging it though.

Indeed a very good deal. at that price the surface is the best tablet For me, I bought it because I moved to another country and didn't had a PC at that time. So for that it's a very good deal as you have a tablet and a pc at the same time/ I wanted to be able to use my USB device but also be able to browse my network drives connect via ssh to my apple tv,...

Plus you can get USB hard drives quite cheaply now, especially with the money you have saved on the surface in the first place. Stick movies on there for long term storage.
You will probably want the microSD anyway though, 32gb on a windows machine is very little. You can use 64gb microSD's in it I think, or just use 32 or less I guess.

I too couldn't resist. Mine arrived yesterday. While it has "REFURBISHED" stickers, both the unit and keyboard look brand new. The only minor sign of prior use is with the power supply.
I've been running RT 8.1 on my Dell XPS 10, so I knew what I was in for as far as the OS is concerned. In other words, I am very happy it jumped.

Buying what?
You might want to be more detailed for those of us reading on tapatalk...
I bought mine in the uk last weekend for £319 with touch cover, I knew exactly what I was buying, as I hate the ipad and have grown to detest android, even after having and hacking a dell streak, Motorola droid etc. I also used ios for years with jailbreak and in the week I have had the surface I have to say am very happy. if I had bought at $199 I would be singing from the roof tops as that's a steal. it is a tablet that divides opinion, because the world, cant see how not having to sync to the bloody terrible iTunes is a good thing. tonight I have rearranged the music on the usb stick, I use in my lexus, written a couple of lengthy emails with attachments, reviewed a couple hotels, and created half a power point presentation all from my tablet.
I can honestly say that the only thing I am missing from ios and android is bad piggies and I am pretty sure that Google and apple fanboys would say that's cause there app stores are better, they maybe but they make up or stale hardware.

At one point Rovio mentioned that Bad Piggies would release on windows 8, and the unity game engine does support both windows 8 and RT, no idea what happened to that.
