Anyone having issues connecting to LTE in the Richardson area? I flashed pretty much stock with new radios from here - http://droidmodderx.com/galaxynexus/stockrom-4-0-4-rooted-deodexed-zipaligned-plus-tether-mod
Haven't seen my phone connected to LTE today. Can't remember if it was on LTE before I flashed.
Mine dropped out for a while here in Houston, TX.
Thanks for the response. I will say I've never seen 3G stronger on my Nexus. Maybe Verizon is doing some network stuff.
Looks like its not a network problem. I'm guessing with the new radio, if you're in a weak LTE area it will stay on 3g and not constantly switch back and forth.

Reception is weak in my office at work. On my previous phone, Motorola Defy, I noticed my data would go back and forth between 'H' and '3G'.
With my GS2, data is stuck on 4G. I have watched it for hours now and even though I have no bars it does not change. Am I missing something? Is my device defective?
I appreciate your help with this.

There might not be a 3G (icon) for the phone which is why it stays on 4G rather than drop to 3G.
At least that is the case with my G2X, it is either 4G or 2G but never 3G.
Not sure why, but that's how they made it.
Have you done a speed test to see if you are on 4G or not?
This phone also might have better connectivity to the network.
....
I can at least confirm there is an E for edge Found out today at my apartment in Boston (normally I have 4G with great speeds in Boston, but I guess the bathroom doesn't get good reception)
Thanks for the replies. Yes I ran 4 speed tests this morning in 4G and my max was 1490 Mbps so I think it's working well.

There actually is a 3g icon. It is only displayed for Umts networks. The reason it was done that way is because there is no way to differentiate hspa from hspa+. Two network technologies for 3g were in use anyways and so it was easier to display all hspa and hspa+ networks as 4g and all umts as 3g.

Some of the people who own a the S3 on Verizon are reporting issues with reception between 3G and LTE especially the handoff between CDMA and lte. Is anyone who has this phone on AT&T experiencing similar issues?
I'm not having any issues using the LTE apn (default).

Sprint Galaxy S3 network connection issues
Good day everyone. I just recently purchased a New Galaxy S3 from a local Spint store. I have been a loyal Sprint customer for 15 years. I have owned many different phones (Star-Tac, Sony, Touch-pro 1-2, Evo, EVO 4G) Over the past 2 weeks since buying the S3, I've noticed a SERIOUS drop in network connectivity, both Data & Cell for absolutely no reason. Now, stop me if I'm wrong, but on my Evo 4G, I could connect to the internet EVEN if I didn't have a 3g signal... As long as I had Cell bars, I could access the web no problem. So the S3 is giving me some headaches and I've seen on other forums that others are too. These people are on diffferent carriers too.
So here's my issue. When I'm in a GOOD STRONG Sprint network, I've been attempting to access the web (Google Store or You-Tube) and have seen the 3g or 4G icon on the bar show data up/downloading then WINK, they dissappear and I get a "No connection RETRY" window. I've made many changes, selected CDMA instead of CDMA/LTE, vice-cersa. I've updated PRL, Profile, Firmware and even have the new Jelly Bean 4.1.1
I've contacted Samsung and "Chatted" with a technician, but this person had NO clue of this issue... I gave them the links to this and other Android forums...
So do I take it back? Revert back to my Evo? I have to say, the speed and versatility on the S3 when it's good, is GREAT, but I'm not one to have some half good, especially one so expensive...
Any imput is appreciated... :fingers-crossed:

I get stellar reception and speeds in major cities and highways throughout the state. Honestly I've never seen my phone drop to 3G but I'm not in rural areas often. I have see speedtests as high as 65mb down in Austin.
Nope nope nope.. All well n good

Out in a 4G area here in Minneapolis, MN. It might have been a fluke with CM10, but my signal would cut in and out every 30 minutes or so. Flashed AOKP and it works fine, but it was weird.
So sprint is taking down 4g towers really fast and taking forever for 4g LTE. I went through los Angeles, san Diego, and all main city's of California.. no 4g or 4g LTE. It just me noticing this?

What kind of phone are you using? I'm not positive if it's the same on all LTE phones, but I know for a fact that the S3 won't even pick up a 4G WIMAX signal. With my S3 and no LTE signal anywhere within a bazillion miles, it's almost like I bought an iPhone 4S, but better and without Mega Run available yet. Maybe like an iPhone 4SS (Super Sport. It's a Chevy thing). BTW, F-YOU GETSETGAMES, YOU ANDROID HATING MUTHAF--KERS! Oh, and please release the Android version of Mega Run soon. Thank you.
If you are referring to 4G LTE then no most likely you will not connect to it HOWEVER I have found that certain parts of South Bay in Santa Clara, Palo Alto and so forth have scattered 4G LTE which I believe is due to testing. I do pick up a lot of eHRDP signal more than I used to. Still slow though.
Yeah if you have a Galaxy S3 you're not gonna pick up any WiMax signal. Only LTE when it's available.
Was watching with my S3 and dad's S2.. only 3g lol. Although it's pretty good 3g. Really stable

I live in an lte area and I have issues picking up lte or holding it. Usually if I know their is lte were I am I may have rot toggle airplane mode and it will pick up lte. I'm just hoping for a leaked radio update or something because this is getting old
I have the same issue with mine, I thought it was defective but it seems to be the norm. I came from an Evo LTE, so sadly its nothing new to me
I noticed the radio on this phone isn't very good, the handoff leaves a lot to be desired
So this was strange.
Riding the bus in Los Angeles listening to music and surfing the web on my phone when LTE pops up. Now as you can see I have PRL 1 which forces roaming on Verizon towers. I checked my speeds to see if this was indeed true and I was hitting 16mbps+.
This lasted about a minute until I moved out of the area and signal went back to 3G.
Anyone can explain?

Sure, you rode by a Sprint tower that was broadcasting LTE. You can't connect to Verizon LTE as you don't have the proper hardware (VZW LTE: 700 mhz, Sprint LTE: 1900 mhz)

They're testing lte in los Angeles that prl is just roaming on Verizon 3g

That doesn't explain why I don't get LTE signal on the Verizon PRL on spots I know to have Sprint LTE though. For example at home I get a steady LTE signal -although at joke speeds. sometimes I'll be hitting 4mbps other times I'll get lucky if i even hit 1mbps- but I'll still use PRL 1 and not get Sprint LTE.
So was this a glitch that made me jump on Sprint tower although I was on forced roaming?
I think of going back and testing if this happens again. For anyone in LA, this was in Figueroa and Colorado Pasadena, CA
Dude I'm rocking the same prl and I live were Verizon has lte I don't get lte .so you just lucky and live by were they're testing sprint lte

Nice to sew there is some signs of lte in pasadena. I was in west covina over the weekend and there was no lte. There is some in el Monte apparently.
But Sprint LTE is different from PRL as PRL is just for 3g and the gs3 had two antennas .

This has been explained numerous times... when you are roaming (on Verizon) but you have an LTE connection, it is two different signals. You are getting EVDO/1xRTT coverage from Verizon and LTE coverage from Sprint... no one on Sprint is roaming Verizon's LTE. Two different frequency spectrums of throughput.

Actually, I think the OP meant it's impossible to grab Sprint's LTE 1900 on a Verizon only PRL. Due to common belief, it's said you must be on a Sprint PRL that has LTE enabled to connect to it. The OP's situation is a rare one.
I wonder if Digiblur can enlighten us here, since I've always believed you needed a Sprint-Only LTE capable PRL to connect to Sprint's LTE network.

Exactly this.
I wasn't aware I could jump to Sprint LTE on a Verizon only PRL considering in areas I do get Sprint LTE coverage, I won't get 4G unless I update my PRL to a Sprint one.
I hit 13mbit near the bathrooms at the universal studios Hollywood Jurassic parking lot the other week. LAX only had 8mbit LTE

Can't you just check your assigned LTE IP address to see if it was issued by Verizon or not?
I bet if you look at the LTE engineering screens it shows a Sprint PCS G block connection. From what I have seen in the past, you do need a PRL with the MCC/MNC records for that Geo. I have seen the Nexus not need this, probably because it doesn't have a qualcomm chipset.

From what I know.. ..there isn't. He could use roam control to see what carrier he is on.

Will someone please link me to the file for PRL version 1? (assuming this is still the best option) I am in a rural area where Verizon has 4Glte but sprint data sucks. I've searched but can't find it. Also, if I switch to s stock rooted rom, flash it, and then recover my current rom (Eclipse), will the PRL stick or revert back to what it was?
Thanks,

I don't believe that is possible. Verizon and sprint use different frequencies for lte. They only share 3g and 2g frequency.

I found 1,2,3 and a couple others but none of them will give me 3g but I know it's here. I wasn't trying to get 4g, as nice as it would be.
