Any reception signal issues with AT&T Samsung galaxy s3 - AT&T, Rogers, Bell, Telus Samsung Galaxy S III

Some of the people who own a the S3 on Verizon are reporting issues with reception between 3G and LTE especially the handoff between CDMA and lte. Is anyone who has this phone on AT&T experiencing similar issues?

I'm not having any issues using the LTE apn (default).

Sprint Galaxy S3 network connection issues
Good day everyone. I just recently purchased a New Galaxy S3 from a local Spint store. I have been a loyal Sprint customer for 15 years. I have owned many different phones (Star-Tac, Sony, Touch-pro 1-2, Evo, EVO 4G) Over the past 2 weeks since buying the S3, I've noticed a SERIOUS drop in network connectivity, both Data & Cell for absolutely no reason. Now, stop me if I'm wrong, but on my Evo 4G, I could connect to the internet EVEN if I didn't have a 3g signal... As long as I had Cell bars, I could access the web no problem. So the S3 is giving me some headaches and I've seen on other forums that others are too. These people are on diffferent carriers too.
So here's my issue. When I'm in a GOOD STRONG Sprint network, I've been attempting to access the web (Google Store or You-Tube) and have seen the 3g or 4G icon on the bar show data up/downloading then WINK, they dissappear and I get a "No connection RETRY" window. I've made many changes, selected CDMA instead of CDMA/LTE, vice-cersa. I've updated PRL, Profile, Firmware and even have the new Jelly Bean 4.1.1
I've contacted Samsung and "Chatted" with a technician, but this person had NO clue of this issue... I gave them the links to this and other Android forums...
So do I take it back? Revert back to my Evo? I have to say, the speed and versatility on the S3 when it's good, is GREAT, but I'm not one to have some half good, especially one so expensive...
Any imput is appreciated... :fingers-crossed:

I get stellar reception and speeds in major cities and highways throughout the state. Honestly I've never seen my phone drop to 3G but I'm not in rural areas often. I have see speedtests as high as 65mb down in Austin.

Nope nope nope.. All well n good

Out in a 4G area here in Minneapolis, MN. It might have been a fluke with CM10, but my signal would cut in and out every 30 minutes or so. Flashed AOKP and it works fine, but it was weird.

My Galaxy Nexus has the most unreliable, horrible, inconsistent data connection I have ever used on a phone.
I go from 4-->3--> No Gs all day long. I'm in Houston, which has a fantastic LTE network (when I'm using a different phone....)
I'm currently on CM9 with 4.0.3 leaked radios, the performance has been bad through stock as well though. Maybe I'll go back to stock and try it again or something.
Should I use the 4.0.2 radios again?
Has anyone else felt the same way?
Thanks.

In Charlotte,NC my phone has been nothing but outstanding. The only place I go to 3G is at my desk in the middle of a massive building with shielding. It's just awesome. 4 Bars 4G at my house down in South Carolina too.
I actually have had no such issue with stock or CM9. I'm in Dallas but live on the edge of the 4G area and my workplace has the amazing ability to shield LTE signal so I'm switching to 3G twice a day.

I'd love for it to just be verizon having problems here.
I'm not so sure that's the case though.

My experience is exactly the same. My Thunderbolt always had a solid, reliable and fast 4G connection in the same locations. My Galaxy Nexus is just like yours: "4-->3--> No Gs all day long". I'm on 3G at least 50% of the time. That never happened on the Thunderbolt.
I've tried the 4.0.3 radio too and it didn't help. It was no better and no worse for me.

I'm glad I'm not alone, I remember reading something about verizon's authentication servers having issues, hopefully it's something on their end they're fixing. Maybe the "real" update will help us out.

You are not alone. Here is some stuff I collected from other threads:
Verizon claims Galaxy Nexus LTE signal is fine, update still coming to change meter
http://androidcommunity.com/verizon...update-still-coming-to-change-meter-20111221/
What do you guys think? Is there still a problem with the Galaxy Nexus and LTE. I personally think there is some sort of issue that will still probably be addressed in the update and Verizon just isn’t saying so. Here is a quick video I made showing my Galaxy Nexus stuck on 3G sitting next to my XYBOARD 8.2″ tablet with 4G LTE. The XyBoard constantly has not only more bars, but a better and faster connection. You tell me?
---
Missed calls, text that wont send, 6 hour battery life… looks like i had better return the Nexus while i still can. Its a shame, i like the phone, i just wish i could make calls with it.
---
I have noticed drops on the data side in places where i have a friend sitting next to me with full 3g signal on an incredible 2. My wifes nexus has dropped calls at least 15 times since she got it and data has been the same as mine

My phone has serious call dropping/connection loss. I had the tech at my local Verizon store compare it to his Nexus which also had weak signal strength (about -96db). We also compared signal to other phones in the store and found the other phones to have around -84db which is much much better. That spread is the difference between barely hanging on to 1 bar and a solid 3 bars on my Nexus. I don’t think Verizon is being honest because my experience is that the signal is weaker on the Nexus, not just looking at the bars. I am also getting sudden disconnects going from any number of bars to dead instantly. Dropping calls is completely unacceptable. I can understand problems with the cutting edge 4G signal, but the phone call function is the same thing they have done for years. Oh, and don’t forget it’s A PHONE. I have until Jan 15th to return the phone so if they don’t have my phone working 100% of the time like all of my previous phones I will be returning it and reactivating my Envy3. My phone reports 10% time without signal. Cell Standby reports 10% of battery usage. I didn’t sign up for being tethered to a charger all day just to keep my phone from diving into cold brick mode while I sit at work less than 1/4 mile from the cell tower.

As a current owner of all 3 of Verizons top tier Android phones (Razr / Rezound / G-Nexus), I can easily state that there exists a radio performance gap between two of my devices compared to the 3rd. My Razr & Rezound pull solid bar(s) status regularly, my G-Nexus on the other hand is much more temperamental with its signal strength. Of all 3 devices, the Rezound displays the best signal the most often (haven’t been disappointed yet), with the Razr usually pulling a close second. As an overall performer, I have to give it to the Rezound, even if its not my favorite of the three. Now listing them by personal preference (general feel), it goes something like this: Razr – G-Nexus – Rezound. The Rezound would score higher, if it didn’t ’feel’ like so many other HTC phones I’ve owned in the past.
---
Is anyone actually looking at their signal strength reading in Settings/about phone/Signal ? I have compared my Nexus against my wife’s Samsung regular Galaxy , my original Droid, and even a 3 + year old laptop built in Verizon air card 3g signal and the Nexus has a noticeable worse signal reception(no 4G in my area yet). When the other devices are showing say -74-75dbm my Nexus is only receiving -93-100dbm. That is NOT a software fix issue. I am on my second Nexus after Verizon Tier2 techsupport did a signal survey in my area and confirmed a good 3G signal and had me exchange my phone. Same crappy reception numbers and I frequently get a Network Problem Check your internet connection message while using apps. I don’t see a software fix helping and will likely be exchanging my phone for a Rezound or returning alltogether and waiting it out.

I’m a Samsung galaxy nexus user. I have had a problem with the signal of this phone. It has been a problem since I started using the phone. I’m in a 3G area. You would think since it’s a 3G and 4g phone. It should still work. I went to Verizon’s store once already, all they did was chAnge the sim card. That didn’t change the signal none. It worked when we were there. I think it’s funny how my husbands 4g droid bionic works while the Samsung galaxy nexus doesn’t. They are both 4g phones and the verizon helper said we didnt have 4g area where i lived. Like I said its funny how his 4g is able to work still. I really like the Samsung galaxy nexus phone but I need service. It didn’t even work at the Walmart I go to either. The only time it actually gave me signal was when I was in the verizon store. Why wouldn’t it work there it’s their phone. All their phones will work there, but once you leave they won’t work anymore.

There’s more going on than just a dfferent representation of signal strength. I’ve run dozens of tests with my Verizon Galaxy Nexus side-by-side with a Verizon HTC Rezound and the Rezound blows the Nexus away every time. I expected the Rezound to perform better on tests like what Vellamo puts it through since the specs on the Rezound are a bit better, but I really wasn’t expecting much difference on the speedtest.net results. The Nexus consistently achieves half the bandwidth of the Rezound.
The more I use the Nexus, the more I like it, but this connection/performance issue doesn’t sit well with me. I’m not sure why Verizon would hide it if they thought that the update was going to improve actual performance and not just the bars, but I’m waiting and hoping. I have until Jan 15 to return it and pick up the Rezound instead. If they can address the connection issue before then, I’ll gladly stick with it.
And for what it’s worth, I would prefer that the bars be more accurate rather than giving me an inflated perception of my signal strength. As long as I know how to interpret the number of bars I have and the connectivity and performance is on par with other comparable devices, I really don’t care if their device shows 4 bars when mine only shows 1.

http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1441187
Thanks for posting this. I definitely think there is more going on here with the Verizon GNex's signal than just the way it is reported. It's not just 3G either. I had 2 Rezounds before I got my Galaxy Nexus, and actually have had two Galaxy Nexii. I am certain I got much faster 4G speeds, 3G speeds, and a stronger signal on the Rezounds than either Galaxy Nexus.
---
I absolutely loved this phone also. but was VERY dissapointed after getting it home, it had a very weak signal and was dropping cals, something that ive never experienced with verizon. me and my wife have the razrs so i was able to do a side by side signal comparison here in dallas. my rersults were more dramatic than yours (OP), both razr's had about -85db and the GN was -104 in 4g. needless to say it was returned.

The VZW Galaxy Nexus has signal issues. The constant bouncing from 4G to 3G to nothing and back is so annoying I have to just leave 4G off. I'm hoping it is an issue that can be addressed with a radio update at some point.

I flashed the 4.0.3 radios a week or two back and I noticed it being worse on my phone. Is it safe to just downgrade radios by flashing them?
Also where are the links for the 4.0.1 and 4.0.2 radios? I was on 4.0.1 radios when I first rooted and it worked fine. But when I flashed 4.0.3, then I started noticing issues :/
I bought my Galaxy Nexus in the Houston area over the holiday while staying with family. I had a very reliable 4G connection, even in the outskirts. My mother's Bionic was constantly bouncing between 3G and 4G, though. Out here in Los Angeles I get a full 4 bars of 4G and average above 20,000kbps.
I have the signal dropping/switching issues some days, some days not. It seems pretty split personality to me....same places, different times, different behaviors.
Mine works fine.

I flashed back to 4.0.2 with no problems.
Mine is working fine here.
The phone itself DOES have issues when the switchover MUST occur.....I have 4G all day until I walk into my kids school. Old concrete block building, etc.....drops down to 3G everytime. BUT on the Nexus it takes a while.....Ill have 30 seconds or so sometimes without any signal while it locks back onto 3G. I *think* that can be fixed via firmware/software (since I believe lots of other phones have had similar handover issues)
The biggest issues with 4G seem to be if you are in a fringe area where it can kinda get 4G but not great 4G. You arent in a fringe area though, so Im not quite sure.....try forcing it to CDMA only and see if the radio stays connected reliably. I know its not LTE, but its just a troubleshooting step. A friend of mine has "reception" handover issues on his Bionic, set it to CDMA only and hasnt had one issue for over a week. its not a fix, but it at least makes the phone useable.......or could signify some bigger issues with your phone if you still have trouble with CDMA only.

Galaxy S3- Some LTE coverage and no reception at all?

I bought my Samsung Galaxy S3 - 16gb from Bell around 2 months ago, I live in Calgary. The area I live in is fully covered with 3G and LTE, but sometimes it switches from LTE to 3G automatically for some reason even though LTE is suppose to be covered everywhere I go. Other times I lose all reception and it says "No service" on my lock screen and/or lose my mobility data connection and I usually have to restart my phone to get it back or move away to another place, this has happened inside and outside.
I know Galaxy S3 has been having problems with their reception and Samsung is working on a fix that might come in the next 4.1 Jelly Bean update but is it Bell or Samsung? I know Bell has good coverage and service so Im not sure what to do.

I will second this problem.
I've flashed many roms, AOSP, TW-based, etc.
I've actually thought of starting a new aggregate thread based on S3 difficulties that aren't specific to any rom.
I can go days with LTE coverage (I live and work between Kingston and Toronto) both great LTE.
Generally, when I go inside my work building in Kingston, I lose LTE - and then ALL data connection. It won't reconnect without a reboot.
Samsung CS told me it was a Bell problem.
Bell told me it was an Android problem.
VERY frustrating.

sprint galaxy s3 network issues

we bought two galaxy S3 and a galaxy note 2 on black Friday and we are very impressed by the quality of the Samsung phones. However, galaxy s3 phones are having 3G network issues. Our apartment is not getting very good reception with sprint but 3G speed tests are consistent with less than 100ms ping and 0.4-1mbps download speeds and 4g wimax speeds are decent. We have an airave device since we had issues with voice reception and we are very impressed by the device. However, galaxy s3 phones are having issues with 3G reception regardless if it is under airave reception or just outside tower reception. It was getting good speed and all of sudden 3G network turns itself off and it comes back on. I thought it was due to weak 3G signal into our apartment but it is doing the same with airave 3G and I thought it was mainly due to the programming of the phone since galaxy s3 has better reception quality than my galaxy s epic 4g. so I went to setting > network > more options > mobile network > and turned on CDMA only and those issues are gone with galaxy s3s. I think the phones are trying to connect to LTE and if the area does not have the coverage yet, it resets the 3G radio. During the resetting, the 3G coverage disappears and disrupts the data. has this been ongoing problem for the galaxy s3 on sprint? my galaxy s1 epic 4G never has this issue and we are wondering CDMA only option is temporary fix for the issue. if anyone had similar problem and was able to fix it, let me know. thank you.

You're probably right.
The only real way to avoid it is to disable LTE during the time when you're at home.
Alternatively, see if it will simply hold an LTE signal instead of using the airave, though I doubt it will.
The reason for the difference is that the Epic 4G is using Wimax, while the Galaxy S3 and Note II are using LTE.

TO ALL!!!! this is a call to action. I too, like many others are experiencing unacceptable data speeds while on 3G and in great reception while uing the Galaxy S III. the speeds I should be recieving are 1.5-3 MB/s but instead I am recieving around 128Kb/s in the city and within excellent service. We all have to pay a 'Premium Data Add-On' charges just to own these phones and this is unacceptable. Please write an Email to [email protected], vice president of customer experience at sprint and let him know what you are experiencing. Maybe if enough pissed off customers write, they will finally listen!

During the resetting, the 3G coverage disappears and disrupts the data. has this been ongoing problem for the galaxy s3 on sprint? my galaxy s1 epic 4G never has this issue and we are wondering CDMA only option is temporary fix for the issue. if anyone had similar problem and was able to fix it, let me know. thank you.

Had problem to for the first couple days after getting my s3 but all the bugs worked out. As far as cdma/lte and cdma option. I switched to just cdma being lte not up and running. This will save battery being phone wont be looking for lte network
Sent from my Samsung Galaxy s3
You can also contact sprint. They have updates for the airave and if that dont work they will send the new design one. Reason is s3 is new surf and talk and airave is standard cdma. Call takes about an hour for them to go through all thier steps. Before you call try *99 it will force connection to airave first and see if you still lose it.

Opinions on sprints network and upgrading to the S4

So as I am sure many of you will be doing eventually. I and thinking about getting the S4. Only issue I am having is Sprints network. I am really debating in my mind if sprint is worth the cost considering they have one of the slowest networks. I have been thinking about going to t mobile since most of my phone use is in major cities in the US, with and occasional use in the Caribbean.
So will you be staying with Sprint or moving to a new network?

I get good wimax and this phone does everything. S4 is S3 on steroids so I am thinking about passing for S5!

i've already moved from Sprint over to Verizon.. I live in nyc and for me Sprint just sucks out here, the 4g is like 3g and the 3g is like 1x. Lots of dropped calls too, so i flashed over to Verizon. Much better network IMO. T-mobile is good to my g/f has them, great 4G speeds.
It depends on where you spend most of your time. The Sprint network is great in some places and sub par in others. We dont have any official 4G service in KY and 3G is sometimes questionable, but I lived in TX last year and had great service. I occasionally get unofficial wimax here and have no interest in switching phones until LTE arrives. My wallet can't handle Verizon so if I switch service in the future it will probably be to prepaid or back to TMO.
I personally think you should drop sprint like a rock because I have sprint out here in Detroit and their empty promises of 4G for the last 2 years has been nothing shy of an insult, not to mention their signal sucks horribly out here and their 3G speeds rival that of Dial-Up, and that's if you're lucky enough to get data over the 3G connection at all...
T-Mobile also has one of the smallest 4G networks (from what I've heard, don't know how true that is), and I've heard of nothing but problems from the few people that I know that own a T-Mobile phone. My other friends with AT&T never have a single issue, and my other friend with Verizon also has absolutely no problems with them what-so-ever, so I'd say go with AT&T or Verizon - I know I will be as soon as my sprint contract is up in a year.
TMO's LTE network just launched I think so it's naturally almost nonexistent. Their HSPA+ network is more than enough though.

For those with bad call & data connections, it'd probably be best to switch to a different carrier. As for me, I switched to Sprint from T-Mobile last year because T-Mobile had crappy call quality and connection problems. Fortunately, Orange County has really good 4G WiMax coverage and speeds (my 4G WiMax is faster than my friend's at&t LTE speed on his Note 2) and we're due for 4G LTE in a month or so.
New York City is an active Network Deployment market that is well under way by Alcatel-Lucent. The only places where I wouldn't upgrade to an LTE device on Sprint are in areas where NV has not yet begun and won't begun for an another few months (and then it'll take a month or two to get the stuff up and running after they begin).
Look here to see what other people reported..

It depends on how strong the T-Mobile network is in your area. In mine, it isn't that good. I have this phone, s2, and I have a lte backup phone. My area does have lte coverage but it's not completely saturated yet. I have 4g lte at home and an area of one of my jobs. My best dl speed test with lte has been just shy of 4000 KB. There are a lot of if's to consider if switching to another carrier. Do your homework first before making a final decision. There's an app out there, I forgot the name, that shows the coverage area on a map with different carriers and modes. I'd suggest checking that out to gather more information. Here you go. https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.sensorly.viewer
Your question is very area dependent. I live in Pittsburgh PA there's no lte in my area yet but it's coming. My 3g/4g is awesome though, I rarely find myself running 4g because the 3g is so good. I will be getting the S4 but not right away, I'm gonna wait for the price to drop and development to pick up.
Thanks for all the responses. I think I'm going to stay with the S2 for at least 2 two 3 more months or so before making a switch. I want to see what sprint has to offer in my area of NYC.

In my area Memphis, TN we have bad sprint coverage and i don't like it. Internet is very slow and sometimes calls don't come through

inland empire is terrible wish it was like orange county...
i travel to and from inland empire, orange county, SGV and Las vegas alot and inland empire is terrible which is were i am the most of the time...
was thinking of going to tmobile but worried about there coverage.. some people say its good but others have nothing but problems.. wonder how there service is away from the major cities.. Verizon is the best but too much .. thinking of flashing phone to verizon prepaid but would only get 2-3mb download but still alot better than sprint in the inland empire.

Does Sprint Note 4 have radio issues?

I have a Sprint Note 4. In many locations I can pickup 4g LTE/Spark but my speeds are not very high. I currently moved and now can barely pickup LTE and get very slow 3g speeds which which both keeps getting disconnected and losing signal. Whenever I do pickup LTE I gets speeds under 2mbps but like I said, it will lose connection. Now I know people are thinking it's just my new location.... I just recently upgraded my wife's line to the Sprint Note 5. Her Note 5 in the same location picks up LTE/Spark and never drops while getting speeds around 21-27mbps.
Is anyone else having same issues? Are there any ROMS out there with radio updates that will give me good stable connections?
I believe mine has had radio issues for awhile no matter what I do. I just received a Nexus 6p and the difference with the radio seems to be night and day. I'll be doing more testing for the next 2 weeks.

Honestly, I think it is Sprint service as hard as that is for me to say as I love Sprint. I lived in Newark NJ for years, Sprint Spark is VERY strong there (Newark was one of the pilot areas for Spark). Almost every day I seemed to have different results, one day its blazing, the next not so good. Now i live in Bloomingdale NJ where there is ONLY CDMA, here is the weird part, its extremely strong, no issues, sometimes stronger than when I was in Newark with Sprint Spark (LTE). This happens on either STOCK Note 4 Touchwiz OR CM/CMRemix (AOSP). So to me it feels like it is the network and areas I am in.
Now you could say its just the Note 4 and not the Sprint service, EXCEPT the EXACT same behavior happened on my Note 2, in CDMA or LTE WITH SPARK - Touchwiz or AOSP.

For some reason, I'm starting to be able to pickup more LTE service now. Half the day will be on 3G while other half of LTE. My wifes Note 5 has dropped in speeds to anywhere between 3mbps-10mbps but still always connected to LTE all day. -_- Starting to hate Sprint.

Yeah it boggles me too sometimes it works and sometimes not
You have to remember network capacity and interference. These are huge factors. The best time to speed test is during off-peak hours. After 23.1 GB on unlimited plans there is a softcap during peak times. Also, take into account upgrades to the network due to Sprints Network Vision which cost billions of dollars to upgrade towers. This doesnt happen overnight. Patience ladies and gents.
