Today I noticed a crack in the right hand corner of my SGS2 i9100 (see picture). Needless to say, I am looking for ways to fix this issue. The phone works perfectly fine; it is just that crack that bothers me.
It is just the front glass right? ... Can something bad happen to the phone whether I choose not to fix the screen (or wait a long time before I eventually do)?
I found a place who might be able to fix this: http://www.xpresscellularrepair.com/index.html , but I do not know whether this will VOID THE MANUFACTURERS WARRANTY or not (?).
Does anyone know what SAMSUNG (if I do it in a Samsung store or something like that) charges to replace the screen on a SGS2 i9100?
I am located in the USA; Oklahoma - however, I cannot find an email address or a service center location for an authorized Samsung place who can deal with this. Can anyone help me with this?
// Steria

The place I linked to said that it would take 2 weeks for them to order the screen, and they would take $240 + tax for the job.
I tried to call Samsung USA, but they redirected me to Samsung UK since my phone is a GT-i9100, even though I bough it from www.Expansys-USA.com ... I am just trying to find out what it will cost me to fix this issue...
Will the manufacturers warranty become VOID if I fix it myself or somewhere else who is not Samsung authorized service center?
Also, since the screen is cracked at the moment - can the phone be weakened/harmed in any way since the screen is cracked? Or is it ok to use it like this, and it won't become more damaged? I need to figure this out if I am going to use the phone as is instead of fixing it...
Edit: It looks like it is just the outer glass that is cracked. Is it possible to only get the glass replaced at a place where they do this, instead of replacing the whole front with the housing, glass and digitizer (~$200)?
Here is a link for a outer glass: http://www.ebay.com/itm/Front-Glass...927?pt=LH_DefaultDomain_0&hash=item19cda2dc5f <-- Is this the original Gorilla Glass?

The fact that its cracked has probabally already voided the warrenty. Anything you try to have covered under a warrenty repair they would probablly just declare as customer induced damage.

There's no way to buy just the outer glass as the screen unit is sealed together with the glass.
If its just the outer glass cracked it should work without much of an issue, but if the internal screen gets affected, it will slowly darken and burn-in in a matter of days / weeks.
I broke the internal screen once, had to buy the parts and fix it myself as customer induced damage is not under warranty.

Apologies for jumping into this thread late. Everything stated is correct. I would just replace the entire front bezel and screen as per the tutorial I posted. Otherwise it is a question of whether paying for an expensive repair is worth any warranty or guarantee it might give you....as mentioned, it is probably too late for that now.

I am aware that the warranty do not cover cracked screens; that was not my intention to ask. What I meant was whether the manufacturers warranty (2 years) still is intact, if something happens (crash of OS etc) in the future...
There are a lot of outer screen lenses/glass listed on eBay - wouldn't this work, just replacing the outer glass? I will not try to do this on my own; I'd rather ask a a business here in the area who deals with repairs of cellphones to do this. However, I need to find out the best/proper way to fix this. Also, I must find out what Samsung will charge to fix this (whether it is only the outer glass or the whole screen).
Can I damage the device in any way by using it with the small crack over a long period of time (see picture)?
Also, if you suggest parts for the repair, please provide links to them.
Thank you.

I doubt it. No manufacturer would uphold a warranty on the windscreen wipers if you'd smashed your car up. You want to be asking them really. They have the answers for what it's worth.

I would take the repair cost/bill to my home insurance company and took the money for repairs from there..

Sounds about right. If insurance won't cover it (your premiums will likely increase even if they do) then i would recommend cutting and running. Replace it out of your own pocket. It it feasible to wick in a small quantity of water thin cyanoacrylate to stabilise the crack, same as windscreen repair.
I would self-repair. No sending your phone away or dealing with those turds at the insurers.

But then the manufacturers warranty (2 years) on the phone will be VOID, am I right? I'm thinking if I get it fixed at a Samsung place, the manufacturers warranty will still be there since it got repaired at an authorized Samsung repair place...
I just need to figure out where I can send it, and what it will cost for them (Samsung) to repair it.
The phone was purchased from Expansys-USA ( http://www.expansys-usa.com/samsung-galaxy-s-ii-android-smartphone-unlocked-16gb-209554/ ).

I'm pretty sure you know that the only way you are going to get a solid answer is by calling up smasung and asknig them. No one here can answer on behalf of them.
If you get it repaired at a repair shop on your own steam this absolutely voids your warranty. Samsung in no way authorises some random third party repair man to do warranty succicient repairs. Generally these are just some guys with minimal technical know-how that you could infact learn yourself from youtube (if these guys are educated at all this is undoubtedly where they received their training).
If you send it in to samsung for repairs, there is a slight chance they will deem it satisfactory to finish the original warranty period, but don't hold your breath. This would all depend on the rest of the phones condition. If it's covered in light scratches and scuff mark/other evidence of dropping it, forget about it. That alone is enough to deem it as excessive physical neglect and void your warranty, even without a cracked screen.
If it's in really good condition otherwise, you might get lucky.
The fact that you have damaged your phone at no fault of Samsung, it is basically a get out of jail free card for them. The only obligation they might have to honouring any warranty for other future issues would be purely out of good will and trying to please their customers - again wouldn't hold your breath on that.
All in all, you will never know where you stand with this unless you give them a call and keep trying till someone actually talks to you instead of trying to pawn you off to the UK.
Best of luck with this, i hope you can work this out.
ps. if it doesn't go your way, keep in mind that plenty of people will pay good money for damaged phones on ebay - sometimes only like 100 dollars less than a brand new one. Perhaps this would be a good path and possibly cheaper than getting it repaired. Hey you could even upgrade to a sgs2 hd or galaxy note

Ask them. If so, you're just buying a warranty which does not cover all that much anyway, as you can see.

I have seen a gazillion people with iPhones use their devices with cracked screens, and many of those phones had a fully cracked screen...
1. For now, I think I will use the phone as it is (with the little crack). I will put on a screen protector film and just use it as it is. Can this have negative impacts on the phone's health (internal, external) in any way?
2. However, can this cracked piece fall off by any chance or something like that? Can this damage to the screen make the phone more exposed to further damage (from regular use, small car mount vibrations, dropped from small heights etc...)? I really do not want it to become even worse and/or harm the phone further in any way.
3. I am looking to buy a case that offers good protection, and I've seen the Otterbox Commuter, the AGF Ballistic SG and the Case Mate Tough. I did not find the Otterbox Defender for the i9100 though... Does anyone here have experiences with any of these, and can recommend one, or another case which offers good protection? How are these compared to the "S-Line e-Bay case" I currently have? --- (which was not on when the accident happened btw, for some strange reason).
Thank you for answering my questions. I appreciate it very much.
// Steria

Cough up the bucks, replace the screen according to my ("uneducated unqualified youtube hack") tutorial, then certainly drop it into an Otterbox or in my case a Taurus. I found my S2 very droppable because of its svelte size and lightness.

LCD cracked during plane flight [pics]

So I just finished two 3 hour flights and used my S4 to watch movies during both. However the second flight was NOT pleasant at all. I was watching a movie while the plane was ascending and i saw something horrible happen. A crack appeared on my S4... It happened before my eyes. The phone has always lived in a case and behind a screen protector, and has never been dropped, or abused. So I am rather pissed about this, seeing as its my first samsung device. I peeled back my screen protector and found that the LCD is cracked and not the gorilla glass. So i would assume the pressure change in the aircraft combined with a unseen flaw in the LCD caused it to crack.
I am going to try and contact samsung tomorrow, and I really hope they fix it or replace it at no charge, as there is zero damage to the phone except for the crack which pretty much has to be caused by manufacture defect. Also it sucks because now my screen protector has dirt on the sticky side (from checking if the crack was on the LCD or glass) and its trash now.

Buyers be warned.
Wow, that's unfortunate. Hopefully Samsung fixes it.
I have read similiar threads and i believe after much arguing with samsung (or T-Mobile) that they finally went and fixed it for them for free. They simply replaced the LCD. Its prolly a quality assurance type of issue where the LCD isnt the same for all devices where one may lack in a bit of strength over the next. Same with our CPU's how some can OC to high values while others cannot even OC one mhz higher.
I have an issue going on with my s4 charger with Samsung, the issue was opened back on 7/14/2013.
I still have not received my charger back yet. spoke with them couple of times.
This is the worst customer service I have seen so far.

Interesting. I was on flights from PHX to Dresden Germany and no issues. We will see if this happens when I fly back.
I guess that's what happens when you don't listen to the "TURN OFF ALL ELECTRONIC DEVICES" announcement.

I know youre joking, but that only applies during takeoff and landing, after you reach 10,000ft they will tell you can use it.
I read in the first post saying you were ascending, so in my mind I guess u were taking off. I know u can use electronics after take offs. But on a serious note, I think since u were watching the movies, your device was getting pretty warm/hot, and there was an issue where the screen cracked under high temps and Samsung was replacing them when it happened
Also I have learned that samsung support is horrible and so is their website. I go to make the repair ticket, It wont work in firefox. it then says Im missing part of my address, and it wont let me enter into the text field. So i find out I have to edit my account information, which requires a password change.. okay. Done. They make you do a troubleshooting guide to determine the issue, it says its not covered, whatever, i'll need to talk to a rep anyways. Get to the last page it asks for $200, and I recall it saying it wouldnt charge me until I approved it at the depot. But I want to go back and the only option is 'continue' so i click the samsung logo to go back to the homepage. Start all over. Denied, it says call support. I check my emails and I see the ticket went through, but is missing the charges and shipping label. Contact online support, they dont know what their doing. So basically I've wasted 30 minutes and need to call them to cancel the ticket, so i can remake the ticket. I hate apple, but I can see the appeal of having a store and a system that works. Sigh.

Isnt it 30,000? When I went from Fla to AK a few months ago I think it was 30
But anyways, flying from Fla to NYC on Thursday and I'll be pissed even tho I have insurance if my shiz cracks some **** like that. That sucks man. Sure its the LCD and not just the glass? Just the glass would be a lot cheaper to fix it your self. I think someone was telling me the s4 glass is easier then the s3 but I might be wrong. S3 was a complete PITA. I shattered mine and took it to get fixed and no one would replace just the glass (The glass is not only glued to the casing but allso completely glued down to the lcd) but like I said if its just the glass from what Ive heard its easier. And definitely cheaper

Its 10,000 to use electronics, and cruising altitude can vary depending on distance, weather and flight plan.
Im pretty sure its the LCD, I removed the screen protector and could not feel the crack. I believe its glued together, and either way I'm not about to pay out $100+ to fix the phone myself or elsewhere. Its very annoying and may spread, but it doesnt effect the use much right now, so if they refuse ill just use it as is and then buy a phone thats neither samsung or HTC =.=

>30k ft is cruising altitude for longer flights.
However, they alert you that you can use electronics after 10k ft. But even after that announcement, they're still climbing a lot more, altitude wise, unless you have a short flight.
Sorry about your phone to the OP, sounds like more of a fluke. Sorry it happened to you nonetheless!
I've seen more than a few OMG MY SCREEN BROKE FOR NO REASON! threads and none have looked like this that I've seen. They always are spider webbed with an obvious impact point. But this one to me is different. There isnt an impact point, with no spider webbing. I think OP is legit and Samsung should be held responsible.
I once had a problem with samsung and I was on the phone with them for easily 8 hours and the only way that I got my problem solved was to email the ceo, I think his is email. [email protected] hopefully this will help you.
I worked for Apple tech support. I was one of the guys who answered when u dialed the 1-800 number on the back of every apple device. I think they've got the best tech n hardware support. The iPhone gets tricky cuz of having to deal with the cell provider... But it's pretty much standard to try to help people out as much as possible for this sorta thing. Hard to determine if the damage actually happened like the buyer said though... Could just be some hockamaymie story

I'll disagree with the support comment. Wife spent almost 8 hours on the phone and got thrown around to 4-5 people for an apple id issue.... None of them knew what the hell to do and just kept transferring her to someone else....
But I don't think the dude has any reason to make it up. That's just stupid. Not like he can tell Samsung hey see I even posted about it on XDA, which contains every possible way to piss you off and void my warranty....
Well that's Def. Not how it was where I was. Apple is super involved with their tech support and is almost obsessive about making the customer happy. I mean, people lose whole libraries of punches stuff, and ur only supposed to get one or two complete redownloads of all ur stuff... But they rarely don't, give bottom level employees the ability to override warranty issues and replace uncovered damaged products.
Based on my experience with other tech or help lines, Apple has the best. They only outsource to India for one call center location. The other 9 are in America, so it's not impossible to hear them 90 percent of the time cuz you got someone here. Customers used to tell me when they called apple, if they ever did get an Indian, they'd just hang up and call right back cuz chances are the next one will be from Minnesota or whatever. And they got so many centers, there's barely a wait queue ever, the most I ever seen was 50 something minutes, on Christmas day. Otherwise barely at all. And they're good at hiding people that like electronics and actually know what they're talking about. Not to mention every tech employee goes through a paid 6 week long training course on every item you'll be troubleshooting, so every employee knows what they're talking about when you call. I worked there, and it's the one job that I don't really have anything bad to say about it at all...

Not a crack its the glue separating from glass and digitizer that's fused ... If you press is a little hard it will go away and come back happens when glass is not 100% flat..

HELP! Broken screen glass

I was getting the stuff out of my car an hour or so ago and I didn't take my bag out properly. Long story short the tablet, an LTE SM-P605) fell on concrete and now the glass is shattered. It still responds to touch and seems to be working properly. Charges and everything. Is there a fix to this that doesn't involve an entire new unit? I would muchhhh rather spend $200 or less on parts and tools to repair the screen than a few times as much getting a replacement unit.

Well I do know that Samsung offers repair of a shattered screen at 1/2 the price if you did it within 1/2 a year from date of purchase. At least Samsung offers this in Denmark. Not sure what goes in the US. But might be worth a try to ask your supplier. A lot of the stores don't really know that Samsung offers this.. So if they say "noooo way!" ask them to double check with their service center.

Yes, It appears to be the correct screen. However, keep in mind that build quality of these screens are not the same as the ones from Samsung. I've repaired plenty of iPhones with cracked screens and the replacements that I would buy varied in build quality some of them were awesome and had little to no flaws, but I did receive a few that were awful.
Good luck with the repair.

That eBay piece contains the glass? Just making sure it's the right part. Everything works 100% except cracked glass on the surface. LCD and touch response seem to be aces.
This might be of help http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=49595697
I've read the screen is glued to the LCD. How hard is it to heat and take that off? I'd love if someone knew of a repair service for the 2014 Edition not the old one.

Firstly, anybody can do bonded screen replacements without professional tools.
The most important tool you will need is patience and determination.
I repair phones, tablets and laptops. While professional tools will make the job easier and give a better quality result, it is possible to get professional results without expensive tools.
I'm not going to go into dismantling device, you can find plenty of instructions on doing that for various devices.
I will cover just the bonded screen issue.
Apart from the replacement glass/ddigitizer,
These are the things you may need and they are all cheap:
1. Molybdenum wire - around $10 for a couple of 100m rolls
2. Plastic Playing cards
3. Non serated plastic knife
4. Hairdryer or heatgun, or an iron (yes, ordinary clothes iron)
5. Infrared thermometer ($40 or so) - not essential but very handy
6. Loca glue
7. UV lamp
8. Couple pairs of small pliers or something to grip the molybdenum wire
9. Cleaning alcohol, or metholated spirits will do.
Once you have removed the screen assembly with the LCD, you need to heat the bonding from the glass side with the hairdryer or iron.
I prefer using the iron set at the right temperature which you can use the thermometer to check. Start at around 90deg C.
Hairdryer will also work, but you can't regulate the temp accurately.
Get the glass up around 90 and start working a corner with a short length of moly wire and grip it using the pliers.
You could fabricate handles for the cutting wires using wooden chopsticks or something but I prefer pliers as the wire will break often and its easy to regrip using pliers.
As you work the wire in, follow behind using the playing cards to keep the glass seperated.
Don't get frustrated if the wire breaks often, expect it!
As you get good at it, you get a feel for the strength of the wire and will break less.
Also try a little more heat for some devices as they have tougher glue but don't go too hot or it will damage LCD.
Once you have cut right through and seperated it, clean the remaining glue off using alcohol and a bit of hairdryer heat and just gently rolling the glue into lumps.
Once its nice and clean, apply the LOCA glue in a double Y like this >---< and gently just lower the new glass on it.
You might need to make a stencil for alignment to locate the glass precisely.
You can do this using cardboard and tape before removing the old broken glass.
I cannot stress the importance of precise alignment, so use your head and innovation to achieve accuracy.
Professionally, we use prefab brackets to align the LCD and glass digitizer, but it can be done with a bit of ingenuity and cardboard.
Don't press down on the loca at first, just let it spread under the weight of the glass.
Work any bubbles out gently and if you need to, use the plastic knife to seperate the glass a little bit and rework.
Once its all good, apply some pressure and let excess LOCA ooze out and wipre it off.
Apply sticky tape to fix the glass in alignment to LCD.
When it's all good, put the UV lamp on it for about 10mins
If you don't have a UV lamp, you can cure it in sunlight for a few hours.
You can get the UV lamps they use for nail salons for $30 or if you are a whiz, you could buy the UV tube for $2 and hack a flouro lamp to power it.
You should end up with a screen that looks new!
PS. Before attempting this on an expensive tablet for the first time, try and get a junked phone with bonded screen and do it on that first for a bit of practice. The experience will be worth it to get better results on the real deal.
The worst you can do is stuff up the LCD and you were going to get the complete LCD digitizer combo anyway right?

Uh-Oh Protection vs Verizon Insurance

Hey guys,
I woke up this morning to find that the camera lens on my M9 was cracked. I haven't dropped the phone once yet. I'm not bull****ting you when I say that.
I immediately went to the Verizon store to see if they'd replace it with it only being a month old (I got it on release day). They wouldn't replace it and said I need to file a claim with the insurance.
So here's where I need some advice. Do I use my Uh-Oh Protection for a cracked camera lens that doesn't impede picture quality? Or do I pay the $149 deductible and get a replacement.
Something I need clarified: is the Uh-Oh only for use on this phone? Like is it tracked through the serial number? Or could I use it on the replacement phone if I went through the insurance.
If I can only use it on this phone then I guess I have my answer, but I'd hate to use it and have something worse happen to my phone. However, I've never cracked a phone screen or had any water damage done to my phones. Like I said, I didn't drop this phone. My guess would be it was a pressure crack from being in my jeans.

Hey guys,
I woke up this morning to find that the camera lens on my M9 was cracked. I haven't dropped the phone once yet. I'm not bull****ting you when I say that.
I immediately went to the Verizon store to see if they'd replace it with it only being a month old (I got it on release day). They wouldn't replace it and said I need to file a claim with the insurance.

Uh-Oh Protection is monitored via IMEI, if you were to receive a replacement device via phone insurance you wouldn't be eligible for uh oh protection on the replacement because most of their replacements are often refurbished devices and you wouldn't have the original proof of purchase for the replacement device either. You'd be better off to use the Uh-Oh since there's no deductible and you would still have your mobile insurance intact and you'd have a spare claim in case you dropped your phone or whatever.
The guy at Verizon said Uh-Oh only covers a cracked display and not a cracked lens. Can someone check this for me I'm currently at work.

I don't believe there are refurbs at this point. Very likely he will get a NEW replacement.

If that's the case then just crack the screen too.
Make sure and video the "drop test" if you do. :good:

Well there isn't a guarantee also he wouldn't have a proof of purchase so he wouldn't be able to claim the protection on the new device.
Really comes down to how long you want to wait, if you do it through tmp they overnight the phone and you send yours back. Uh oh protection requires you send yours in and are without a phone until they send you a new one.
It doesn't affect picture quality yet. I was thinking if the crack gets worse to the point that it affects picture quality, I'll have it replaced. And if nothing worse happens to the phone within a year, I'll use the Uh-Oh at the end of the year.
It sucks that I've only had it for a month and it's had a case on it the whole time. And the lens cover is sapphire too? Like what the hell man lol.

I have read many people having this issue with the camera lens cracking without them dropping the phone or anything, and it's quite a bit concerning, IMHO.
Do you use a case?
I use a very light case (case-mate barely there on M8) and just ordered a Spigen "thin fit" and had no issues with my M8, but would hate to have to use uh oh on something like this, as what happens when it happens again?
Sorry to hear about this, thanks for sharing.
I just Googled it, seems this is a real issue and may be caused from heat http://forum.xda-developers.com/one-m9/help/cracked-glass-camera-cover-t3073421/post60549128
Thanks for finding that! Maybe since it's a big problem HTC would replace the affected phones without using the uh-oh?
And @andybones, it's been in a case since it came out of the box. I'm using a Spigen Neo Hybrid.
Hey guys so I have some good info!
After talking to an HTC rep, she confirmed it's a widespread issue that they know about and that the phone is still under warranty. So here's how a warranty works for an M9:
There's the uh-oh protection, which covers cracked display, water damage, or a carrier switch. Then there's a regular one year warranty for literally anything else. So a cracked camera lens cover would be covered under the one year warranty, and not the uh-oh!
So I'm getting a new phone and my uh-oh is still intact

It's good news for now but the problem still exists beyond the year warranty.
I'm thinking in a year they'll have it sorted out.

Broken Display? How can I fix it?

Hey!
I bought a used moto360 about a month ago with some pixel errors. They didnt bother me much, until I noticed that they are expanding.
Since I bought them from ebay and the seller doesnt have the invoice anymore, I cant RMA it.
This is how it used to look like:

Im not familiar with displays, so I cant tell what exactly is broken. I just know its getting worse.
Is it possible to stop it from expanding? If not, what do I need to replace? And what kind of tools do I need?

The previous owner dropped it or did something to cause it. Once glass is cracked it only gets worse over time. Paypal doesnt have your invoice?
Sent from my Nexus 6 using Tapatalk
I do not know that. The description just said the watch had pixel errors one the right side. I have no idea what caused them.
And PayPal is a legit invoice? Because I could just steal a watch, tell my friend to send me some money via paypal and say: "Hey, thats the invoice from a random dude I bought the watch from. Give me a new one!"
So you bought the watch knowing that it had display problem. That is not the fault of the seller. You bought the watch with an issue and you must accept it. The seller might have mislead you by using the term "pixel error" instead of cracked display but i guess it will be hard to argue.

If for some reason you decide to try and fix it on your own, I could sell you a replacement LCD for $30 shipped (depending on where you are). I had a couple of them that I was toying around with rooting ect and ended up shorting out the motherboard. They're not the most difficult to take apart, but you probably won't get the waterproof seal back in. The LCD has the bezel and everything in tact and ends up being just a replacement piece with a ribbon cable that plugs into the motherboard of the watch.

I saw a iFixit guide that shows how to disassemble the watch, however some parts are glued.
After replacing the LCD, what kind of glue do I need to reassemble the whole thing? Or will any instant glue work?

Well, I kinda do. Of course, now I realise why the watch was so cheap, because Im pretty sure the seller knew that it was getting worse.
You dont know how stupid I felt, but thats what I get for not thinking befor buying. Gonna deal with that now.
Does somebody knows a good seller? Perhaps in germany? Or could I message motorola directly and ask them for a replacment part?
I will probably buy the tools in need from iFixit.

Tough to say about the glue...it was such a sticky glue that when prying it apart it seems like you could even just push the pieces back together and it'd stay, or maybe some other glue, I'm no expert on it. Seemed like the main things that were glued were the plastic back and the charging coil. I used an exacto knife to get the back off, you have to be very careful with that part, I had broken one of the backs by trying to pry it, the other came off OK with an exacto knife.

If you will be doing the tearsown yourself. Be prepared for the grueling work ahead. If ifixit tools are too expensive and too long to arrive on you country, you can buy similar tools innyour local electronics shop. A lot cheaper option but will do the work. If you have a haird dryer lauing around, that will do the trick of heating your caseb without burning it to oblivion.
And bear in mind that once you open it, forget the water resistance. You cant use super glue (cyano acrilate stuff) it will make a haze in the glass. I would suggest LOCA uv for the glass and double sided tape for the back.
My suggestion is letting a Motorolla shop do the replacement for guaranteed result. Of course you will pay but everything will be guaranteed from labor to parts.

I asked Motorolla how much a LCD replacement would cost, but they couldnt give me a anwer to it. They just said I have to send it to them, check it and mail me the price. And If I dont accept it, I have to pay 15€ for shipping and service fees. I know, I cheaped out once and now I doing it again and its the same freaking watch. But I like the challenge to fix things by myself.
Im not quite sure about the hair dryer, but Ill find a way. So the only real tool I need is some kind of plectrum?

My little bit of advice (no guarantee that things won't get broken/ruined):
-if you heat up the plastic back, it might work better for sure, but I had to kind of cut through the glue. If you pry at all, the back will snap. That's why I used a sharp exacto knife. But be careful when cutting as the charging coil is in there (between the back and the plastic casing that holds most of the electronics). But with an exacto knife, you can actually scrape the color off of the bottom of the plastic, so be careful of that. The sensor in the middle is slightly recessed if I remember correctly.
-once you get the back off, the rest can be pried out (the rubber seal makes it pretty tight though). I don't recall once you get those parts out how delicate the ribbon for the LCD is, so just make sure to go slow.
-the bezel and LCD come off as one part (the LCD and glass stay inside of the bezel), so just don't expect that the bezel will be separate, you can obviously separate them, but they'll probably come off as one.
Thanks! That will help me a lot.
I post updates after I got enough money to buy the LCD replacment.

Question No sound when Z fold3 is opened

So here's a deal - I have my z fold3 for almost a year now and I've started to have some weird problems with internal screen. First I couldn't switch from external to internal instantly - I needed to turn off screen when folded, open it and turn on screen. It fixed itself after couple of days. No there's a new problem - when phone is opened there's no sound. When I close it - it starts to play... Any ideas how to fixed it without doing hard reset? I tried safe mode.
I have the exact same issues and also in the same order as yours!
In addition I also have the S Pen dead zone issue.
All these came very recently after a software update.
It's so frustrating.

Happened after the recent update...???
SAMSUNG should do something about it..
At first I though my screen had some problem, and being a premium device we don't expect these products to malfunction like this..
I just tried it on my unlocked and updated UK model.
No issues with sound or s pen input here.
So, wonder if it's a geographical update issue?

So conclusion. this is hardware issue and need sent to service for fix
Occurred after the new update...???
SAMSUNG ought to take care of business..
At first I however my screen had some issue, and being a top notch gadget we don't anticipate that these items should breakdown like this..
Wow, I just had this issue. How can it be a hardware issue when i did not damage it physically? the store quoted 600 bucks for repair if i have no warranty. what are they gonna repair that cost 600 bucks?
I have exactly the same problem,
Resolved the switching screen to tablet mode by "resetting all settings" option
Regarding sound, I couldn’t find a solution
I think only fix to this just send it to samsung for repair. Probably the switch for fold detector causes all of this.
Hi guys sorry I'm replying to this thread so late on but I had the exact same issue, audio not working when opened and I took it to samsung experience store, and they replaced the inside screen, but apparently the inside screen is attached to the whole frame of the phone so the only parts of the phone that are originals are the back and camera, they told me the front screen would be my old one aswell however once I got it back that was new aswell! Also both screens came with screen protectors on, so basically all in all I have gotten a new fold 3 out of this, ALL FREE UNDER WARRANTY!!!, so not sure what you did with yours but I highly recommend you take it to samsung to fix it for free if you haven't already, my question to you though is did you replace the inside screen protector at all before hand? And did it possibly start to lift as I'm wondering if that's what happened to mine as the replacement screen Protector I put on once the original cracked started to lift up.

I experienced the same a few weeks ago and although my warranty expired last december, they still repaired my phone for free. They replaced the inner screen and all that's attached to it (frames and both batteries), didn't get the front screen replaced tho but it's fine.
Samsung (their repair center) refused to repair my phone under warranty due to some scratches, and they are now asking for over 600€ for the repair. It's unfortunate

Samsung (their repair center) refused to repair my phone under warranty due to some scratches, and they are now asking for over 600€ for the repair. It's unfortunate

That's INSANE my phone was in far worse condition than yours and they repaired it free of charge, try taking it to a different samsung store and don't mention you took it somewhere else first, if not complain to a manager about it, scratches like that should never void your warranty as there just scratches on the hinge and the device is clearly defective, you need to stand your ground on this stuff not sure if it's the same warranty where you are as it is in the UK but the item is defective, the reason there trying to quote 600 is because the screen and body are all one unit and don't separate, but again take it to another store or send it in and TELL THEM it's a defective product and it is STILL under warranty.

I experienced the same a few weeks ago and although my warranty expired last december, they still repaired my phone for free. They replaced the inner screen and all that's attached to it (frames and both batteries), didn't get the front screen replaced tho but it's fine.

Yeah I would have been happy enough with my old screen but really happy it's a new one, maybe the guy broke it removing it , but looking at the marks on the other guys phone I can't believe they refused to fix it for him when it's clearly a defective unit.
