a couple post down from yours http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1487126

I had a Epic 4g Touch too. The phone was awesome. I chose to go back to T-Mobile because of the data speeds in my area. Where I live there is no WiiMax and the 3g coverage is comparable to 56k. Even force roaming on Verizon towers didn't work (thinking maybe it is the modem issues that phone had when it was released).
You have to get used to the slower processor (which isn't that much of an issue) on the stock version. Custom Roms certainly alleviate that problem though. So to me it is clear. Much better data speeds and a slightly slower processor are way better than the faster processor and abysmal data speeds.
On a side note, it is a testament to Samsung how subscribers will switch carriers, and still go back to the same phone, even though it is a variant...

A good starter ROM is Juggernaut. Then from there if you want something way different, the purple people eater Tuesday From isn't a bad choice. If you want something stockish that gets consistant coverage, TDJ rom is the way to go.

I'm running the seanster latest and greatest..I always come back to it...for me its the most stable..coupled with faux clock the phone is crazy....an iPhone eater in my opinion..all of the roms out for this variant are good..2.3.5 or 2.3.6...experiment around and see what you like..

By the way......after you overclock you won't notice the differences in the chips..you can smooth out the UI ... definitely snappier than the epic touch 2 just not as smooth..

Rogers: LTE network reception

Coming from the Galaxy s II LTE, I noticed that the LTE connection is not as great as it used to be from GSII to GSIII. At the same location (my desk at work) I used to consistently have LTE, not I get 4G and if I'm lucky, 3 bars.
Question(s): instead of waiting for the updated modem from Rogers,
1)Anyone flash UCAL based ROMS experience better LTE connection with Rogers?
2)Anyone flash ANY ROM and notice improvements?
3)Anyone try any tweaks that they wouldn't mind sharing that improves this?
I'm thinking of flashing Tuchmi but I'm really considering other ROMs based on UCAL just to see if it improves LTE. Anyone experience anything as mentioned above?

My office downtown at front and bay gets terrible reception.
Yesterday I had my phone running cm10 next to a buddy on stock and we were both only getting 3-5 down and less than 1 up!
Before the s3 I had a blackberry and it had **** reception in my office equipment too.
I am also running cm10 latest version august 17th. Does anyone know what the lte symbol is? I only connect to 4g and H+. Before I installed the ROM I never had access to the network, but I do now after speaking to my provider.

4G is the LTE in CM10
I really think the antenna on the sgs3 is weaker for both cellular and wifi reception. Once it picks up a signal when you're close enough its alright but compared to other devices I've used such as sgs2 it does seem weaker. And sgs2 was fairly weak as it was IMO.

Coming from iPhone 4, I would say SGSIII's reception is pretty good to me. Never used SGSII before, I cannot provide the comparison.
I am using the AT&T UCAL based rom on Rogers, got 4 bars consistently. I guess the performance is pretty much the same, the battery seems getting better.
I've heard of people having the same issue coming from an S2 to S3 as well

If I install AOKP, will I get the same 4G speeds?

I have a T-Mobile GS3 and I'm rooted and getting amazing speeds on the T-Mobile network on the (Rooted) Stock Rom (Via Galaxy S3 Toolkit)
I was going to install AOKP and wanted to make sure that I would get the same speeds. Is there anything I should keep in mind before doing anything?
Thanks!
I've read that OC phones get a little better speed. I have never seen anything to support that though. If you use the same modem you shouldn't see a difference up or down.

@ OP...
your data speeds will not suffer from having a custom ROM. You should see the same speeds and connections in the same areas. As he^ mentioned, mostly depends on your radios and signal. Nothing more (for the most part)
My experience with AOKP has been always, no matter what phone, I get lower speeds than stock based. If you search you will find a lot of people complaining that their speeds dropped once they Flashed AOKP. I'm not sure if anyone has figured out why yet, it just seems to be one of the trade offs. Of course ymmv though.

At one point AOKP/AOSP ROMs could only get 10Mbps, now there is no difference. As others have said, you may find that one particular radio is better for you than another.
I'm an AOKP user and the highest I've gotten is 26Mbps.

Why am I only getting 1x speeds on custom ROMs?

I have a epic touch 4g flashed to cricket and I was on wondering why I get 1x on custom ROMs but stock ROMs are just fine. And when I do get 3g the data acts weird and cuts on and off.
Sent from my SPH-D710 using xda app-developers app
It might not be that you are even on 3G but sprint has this little habit of lying on their stock ROMs by making it so it always shows 3G even when connected to 1x. The devs on xda have made it so that in ROMs shows the true connection such 1x/3G.
A good way to verify while on stock is to go look on the about phone to see what you are connected to or use netmonitor/speedtest to see what connection you are on.

I had a ROM they showed real speeds and I was on 3g. The ROM was basically a slightly modified stock though....

another welcome to sprint thread.. my speeds are always at 1x no matter what rom/modem im on because of my area

Well first crickets 3g doesn't work very well on sprint phones, if you want real 3g you need a cricket phone or be on Sprint.
Data does work on touchwiz roms though, and if you want aosp you have to flash a fix to get it to work on those, but it won't be even close to 3g unless your lucky.
If you don't have the fix its here http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1479175 use the ics one for ics and jb.
I've gotten 1.6 Mb/s download speed on aosp jb with Cricket, although average during the day is more like 800Kb/s. Area, PRL, signal strength, etc play a huge role as well.

Using my T989 on AT&T

I am going to be passing down my unlocked S2 to my girlfriend that is currently(for now) on ATT. I am running "Jedi Bean" now and just like everyone else on a 4.1 ROM, I dont have signal strength bars.
My question are:
*Is there anyway for me to get Signal strength bars with a T989 on ATT?
*Should, or could I even, flash an ATT radio? Would it help reception on ATT?
Please give me some ideas as to what I can do to make my T989 run as flawless, and as "normal", as possible on ATT's network.
U will only get 2g speed I would recommend selling or trading for a skyrocket

I know it cant get 4G, but I thought the T989 is capable of 3G on AT&T, it has the band for it...The main reason I am giving my girlfriend the S2 is so she can have all the Samsung apps and enjoy a better phone than she has; currently an HTC Inspire. I dont want to sell/trade it is because its my spare phone now that I sold my Galaxy S.
Side note: My girlfriend barely uses data, so the reduced speed is not a big deal.
It gets 3g on at&t because occasionally when I go out of my hspa 4g range like in middle of nowhere my phone will link up to an at&t tower on the edge network which is technically 3g. Sometimes its gprs 2g but it does get 3g on at&t signal.

I also have a t989 on at&t and don't use data so is it possible to flash a different radio for better clarity?
My default radio is UVLC8

Tired of slow sprint and tmo is only other unlimited peeps

So does the tmo gs3 have the premium suite aka multi window?
Or should I just get the gn2
No, but custom ROMs do
Sent from my SGH-T999 using xda premium
None of the US S3's have official Multi-window. The mod is for roms with 4.1.2 and there are some roms with 4.1.2
Actually I believe sprint, verizon and US cellular has the 4.1.2 update for their s3's. Honestly I found that multi Window is only useful when taking notes from the web or you cant copy n paste something to use in other app. But yeah to get multi window you would have to flash a custom rom. We have some good ones with multi Window. Tmobile probably wont give our s3 4.1.2, they just gave it to the s2 though, but we will be getting 4.2 after release of the s4 which is when 4.2 touchwiz will be officially released. Also will be getting 5.0 when that comes out.

is tmo generally only good in cities? Is coverage better than sprint?
Depends, I live in Scottsdale, AZ (basically Phoenix) and my signal fluctuates all over the place. If I'm outside I usually always have 3-4bars or 95ish dBm of HSPA getting 15-20ish mbps. As soon as I get inside a building signal goes to 2ish bars, sometimes to edge. It really varies where I'm at. I have friends in the same exact spot as me and we do a speed test, and they are about 8mbps below me on average, so I'm going to strongly say T-Mobile is better, where I live and hang out at.
Just look at their little map if they cover your city, generally they don't cover a lot of rural areas.
Sent from my SGH-T999 using xda app-developers app
check the map and look up your area. Tmobile covers most of the U.S. and major cities. Im using straight talk, using tmobile signal towers and sim, live in Miami, and almost always have full bars, rarely ever been under 4 bars. Also get 14-16 mbps average, always getting hspa+ even in moving car/bus. Would highly recommend tmobile if in well populated area.

I used to work at sprint and their service is spotty at best. Their lte is a joke and has no building penetration whatsoever. The fact that I couldn't stream music while working out was the kicker and I went back to good service...tmobile! I was getting free service with sprint and still hated it.
