I am happy to buy apps that I think are worth the money but I think it's totally unfair for google to have apps priced in Dollers / Euro's for UK people.
The reason being, if I were to purchase an app for say 99 Cents or $1.99 or Euros, I get charged £1.50 fee by the bank.
Surely google checkout can convert the price to the location of the phone / user and avoid extra charges on top?
You need to speak to your bank cos it sounds Like your being ripped off .. the 1.50 fee only normally applies to atm withdrawals . The most I've been charged for an app at 99c or $1 is around 4p extra think it should be standard so u need to take it up with ur bank !

My bank deem the transactions as currency conversion as it's $ or Euro's to sterling.
I can't see why Google checkout cannot just sort it at their end.
I'd change your greedy bank mate! Mine does not charge for converting and the conversion rate should take into account costs.
Its a US company. Why shouldnt they charge in $?

Yeah my bank does this too, its annoying to say the least.
I spoke to them today and they said there is nothing they could do.
My Google checkout account uses my Lloyds TSB credit card as the payment method and I'm not getting charged anything extra when I buy apps listed in USD.
Time to change your bank I reckon

Interesting. I only use credit cards for online transactions, just to get that extra bit of cover. Actually another factor... my credit cards are the "Airmiles Duo", so one mastercard and one AMEX, and it's the AMEX card I generally use for Google Checkout. Don't know whether that's a factor
The developer choses the currency he wants, not Google. I really think you have a problem with your bank so it's not fair to blame Google.

I am pretty sure I never got charged when I had a Maestro card.

Odds are your problem is caused by you downloading those apps, since that's the number one way people get trojans on their phones.
Look, you paid at least $250 for your phone, and at least $70/month for service. I think you can afford a $0.99 app.

It was stated a few posts up that the person doesn't have a credit card. I agree that it would be nice for Google to enable buying apps by having them charged to your phone bill. Not everyone has access to a credit/debit card.
Just a note: you can use visa gift cards on the market with Google Checkout - I have. You have to register the card with the website so the name & address will be registered to the card, just like a debit card. The website is in the info that comes with the card. If you really wanted to buy an app, you could.
Every paid app should have a license check, in my opinion.
Open a free checking account and get a debit card? Pay for your apps please, it keeps android moving forward. I used to do the same thing as the OP, until I felt convicted by God not to so I deleted everything I had acquired and bought it all.

As others mentioned, go to walmart and buy a prepaid credit card. Load it with like $25, and attach it to your google account. You can use it to buy apps. Alot of apps are going to be installable as they start using googles market verification to make sure you purchased it.

no, apps won't void your warranty, there is no way for sprint to check quickly and they wouldn't take the time to either, if the apps are to blame then sprint well say it was an app after they reset your phone to stock. then start over installing them and do it slowly so you can catch the one that gave you problems.
if your just worried that they are checking over the wireless and not in store then have no fear, they don't check for that

Yes, again, that doesnt matter. Get a prepaid credit card from walmart, or grow some balls and get your own bank account. STOP stealing apps for free, the dev's work very hard on these apps, and deserve to get paid for their work. Harsh but true
+1
I surprised no one has stated the obvious lol. 99% of these apps have a free or 'light' counterpart; most of which usually are fully functional with ads.
Most kids(dkdude36 excluded for obvious reasons lol) don't NEED and ad free app, you saw free and went for it. Is what it is.
I will +1000 on the Google market needed to up their accessibility with pre-paid cards. I gave my 10yr old my Vibrant when I moved over to sprint and I wouldn't give her my account either. She's pretty smart but she would still buy random stuff not realizing it adds up. She is pretty happy about all her free apps though.
If you're under 18, kinda hard to open a bank account. But immensely simple to get a prepaid Visa or American Express gift card, next time you're at the mall or walmart (and if you're under 18, this will certainly be sooner rather than later ), just get one of those and exercise your freedom from your parents

squareup.com I've used it for business and craigslist.
Here's a little bit cheaper option, as well.

Been using square (squareup.com) for over a year for my business and personal use. It works great. The swiping dongles are free, or $1, i don't remember which. I have a few that I keep in my car and business partner's car so we always have one available.
Once you have your account activated, you can even run cards without swiping them, although it is about a 1/2% higher fee.
Also, my customers love when they get to sign on my phone with their finger, and I email them a receipt with a picture and geolocation tag of where the transaction took place.
I'm waiting for an NFC wallet to pay to an NFC receiver....phone to phone transaction lol

You can buy a Square reader in places like the Apple Store, BestBuy, RadioShack, etc., for about $10. You'll have to pay tax, but the box includes a $10 credit for your account.
You can also request they send you one for free.
Works good. Have used it a few times and have had no issues.
Square is 2.75% flat.
Intuit Swipe appears to be 2.7%, but 3.7% if you manually enter it (type in the card number instead of swiping). They do have a "high volume" account that has a lower percentage rate, but a monthly fee.
A buddy of mine, who owns a cigar shop that I frequent, has square and he loves it. I've been able to watch the shop for him a few times and use it myself, and it's so simple to use.

I work for a credit card processor and those rates you guys are spewing are HUGE. They're double what you would pay simply by opening a processing acct and downloading the verifone payware mobile app from the market.

you guys that think the price for transaction is too high do realize you can simply charge 3% more for your transaction than you were going too to absorb the cost. Its just an alternative if the 3% is too much for you. Of course on larger ticketed items it may not be as easy but you can still inflate price some to cover fees
Hey guys !
While I don't want to repeat myself in multiple threads, I created a thread into I9500/I9505 section related to a petition to make Samsung (or retailers) release the 32GB and the 64GB versions. We would like to get your help, as the request is referred to the whole world.
Please sign and share the petition.
Thank you everyone !
Thread link: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2282770
Petition link: http://www.change.org/petitions/release-the-samsung-galaxy-s4-with-32-and-64-gb-internal-memory
You do realize that each size jump would increase the price of the phone greatly? It isn't going to be $50 more for 32GB version. It would be at least $100 more for 32GB and probably $250 more for $64GB. That would make the $64GB version close too $900.
Except for iPhones, no carriers would subsidize phones that would cost more than $199 price point after the subsidy this means that you'd be stuck paying for $900+ tax upfront. Only small amount of buyers would do that, especially knowing that all new Samsung phones already have the capability of microSD.
@deaffob: sdcard is not a solution for installing apps.
Between S3 16gb and 32gb it's only $60 difference. Even if will be $80-$100, I don't care. I'm sure this who already signed the petition don't care either. Sdcard is not a solution

I'd sign the petition for a white 32 or 64gb haha.
As @elflip88 said, 8.5 GB is not a solution for everybody. I like to have lots of apps and games installed. You can't install apps on a sdcard and folder mount is not working properly.
I don't ask for suggestions, neither those who signed. We just want that version.

I agree with the OP. Having the option for expandable microSD card is nice for music, pictures, and video storage but it is not a solution for games & apps and app data. I feel 32GB should be default. Not every carrier offers unlimited data so cloud storage sucks for people who have a cap on their data plan.
Personally waiting for the 32gb S4. 13 MP camera and apps with only 8 gb of space? Not happening.

The partition for the OS ,stock software, and future updates on the Galaxy S4 uses 6GB+ of internal memory.
I think that once the stock OS starts taking up close to half of internal memory, its time to start thinking about an upgrade in memory standards.
Apple and HTC both offer 32GB and 64GB models. I don't see why Samsung couldn't at least give the option of more memory for those who want to pay more for it.
With that said, I debloat every phone I get and even with 60+ downloaded apps installed I haven't even filled half of my internal memory and use a 32GB microSD for any media or files.
I had an att prick brag about his 32gb to me in person. I chuckled, and showed him how i made calls over WiFi, then poped my cover and showed him my 64gb microsdxc card,..
"So I still got 32gb internal and can put the 64gb in there!" he says. so i retort, " but your still in contract and paying more monthly then I am even after the TMO financing" -- i watch as he releases an uneasy chuckle as he realizes he is getting boned monthly
Guys, another problem with those 8.5 gb available memory is that not everyone have unlimited data with their plans. I like to save offline music with Google Music and all those is going into internal memory. At least Google should leave us install and save all that music into the sdcard. Then, Google Maps in offline mode have the same problem. I have the S3 but after getting the S4 I don't plan to upgrade a while. I think a 1.9GHz is enough for a phone (my laptop have 2.1 GHz). I don't want to be out of space all the time. I want to get the unlocked S4. I would pay $100 more just to get the 32GB version. Why in South Africa the 32gb S4 is standard, while in Europe and US we all get the 16gb ? Isn't that retarded enough from Samsung ?

they have a wifi calling app now, don't forget, LTE for TMO is still MIA in many places.
The un-carrier plans are ridiculous, so much the FCC required them to change the wording.
149 for 16gb + 20 per month for 24 Months 480, That's 630 for the phone.
Where I live ATT has better penetration, and I get discounts through my Employer, no discount for Tmo, that was enough to make me switch to AT&T.

Hi. Since I'm not rooted anymore, I figured I'd start setting up a mobile payment thingy. Anyone play around with the included ISIS or Softcard? I remember Google Wallet in the past, but I'm sure its much better now. Anyone try them both on the Note 4; and do you have a preference over the other? Thanks.
Edit: Claimed a bunch of $20 Amazon gift cards on Softcard for October. I'm now on a Tmobile Note 4 (rooted) so I can't use Softcard anymore. I guess Google Wallet is the way to go now...
I've been using Wallet since I for this phone and it works really well. I prefer wallet because I can load just what I want to my Google account and not use my debit card.
I've yet to see Softcard used in my area. As it is right now, only my local Walgreens uses gWallet, so neither is really useful for in-store purchases.
So why does the Islamic State of Iraq and Syria (ISIS) have an app on my new phone? I haven't opened it to see what is is...

I dont think you need a special sim cause its included onto our Note 4's and easily downloaded from the PlayStore.
Here's a great reason to use Softcard. You get a $1 per tap up to $50 a month. It started in July and runs through the end of the year. All said, I'll have pocketed $300. Not counting the first time $50 sign-up bonus. Wallet's a solution looking for a problem and a cluster of an app UX wise.
this is a NO FREAKING BRAINER needed !
Softcard, everytime you make a purchase with American Serve card, you get 1$ cashback !
and now through end of October, next friday, every credit cards you added to Softcard, they give you 20$ Amazon gift card !
i added 3 credit cards, and i already received 60$ in Amazon gift card !
Google Wallet give you sh*t !!
but i having problem with Softcard, i moved Softcard from Note3 to Note4, now i'm UNABLE to re-add my Serve card !
even i moved back to old phone, Note3, still UNABLE to re-add my Serve card ! WTF !

There is a new sim that's required for softcard. It's called a "secure element" sim kinda like chip the Note 2 & other phones had built in to work with NFC. Now the NFC works with your sim's secure element so just stop in a store & ask then to swap your old micro sim for the new one.

I just used google wallets tap to pay yesterday for the first time ,and it work flawlessly at mcdonalds, I used it with my debit card. I think tap to pay is an amazing and convenient way to pay and it goes beyond just being secure its also safer at a POS. I myself work at gas station, i help hundreds of people a day who are constantly on their phones, whether it be in hand texting or making a call. When it comes to making your purchase at a POS you have to (most likely 9/10 people have their phones in hand already) put your phone down ( again most people will put their phone on the counter), pull out your wallet, find the card in our tightly packed wallets people have with all the cards we carry now a days. Swipe your card on the POS, put it back in your wallet, and HOPE you remember to pick up your phone and walk out with all your belongings. Where as with a Tap to Pay device, your phone being in your hand already, you load up your app or if you device already recognizes the POS, It will already have a credit/debit card preselected and just hover it over the POS and bam done. No having to dig out your wallet, leaving your stuff on the counter. Which means less potential to leave your phone or wallet behind, or even someone one just swiping it off the counter when your not paying attention.

What you're describing applies to mobile payments in general. The only difference between Softcard and Google Wallet is the card's you can associate to them. Anywhere you can use one you can use the other.
Speaking of which, Rite Aid and CVS just deactivated their NFC networks to join Walmart, Best Buy, Target and others in MCX which is merchant sponsored and barcode based. With AT&T, VZW, T-Mobile, and a bunch of banks sponsoring Softcard, merchants with three trillion in revenue sponsoring MCX, and Apple and a bunch of banks sponsoring Apple Pay,
Google's pretty much on their own with wallet. If Google can't control what third parties do with Android their ability to dictate to merchants and the financial industry what to do with mobile payments sure ain't going to be any easier.

I added a credit card and debit card. Added funds to my softcard. Now how long does it take before I receive the 20 bucks from amazon for each card I add? The cards I added was not on there list. Is that going to be an issue?

credit cards only. American Serve card doesn't count. if you added American express, Wells fargo, or Chase, you will get 20$ for each card added AFTER you use that card on phone to pay at least once by Oct 31, 2014 (this friday). I added 2 American express, 1 chase card, I received 60$ amazon card.

I tried using Isis/SoftCard, but it wouldn't take any of my regular cards! I had to use American Express, or sponsored banks. So I called American Express thinking that their prepaid card was one that charges your actual card when a payment goes through. No. You have to load the card, then use the card on SoftCard. For me, this is a waste of time. So then I used Goggle Wallet which accepted all my cards in a hurry, and I've been using it ever since! And I mean, c'mon, what Google product doesn't out perform some off-brand?

I do not have any cards that support this app natively. So for me, it's not worth the hassle of signing up for a new card with American Express, loading the card, then using it with SoftCard every time I wish to make a purchase.
You don't have to specifically load the Amex Serve card to use it. Once you sign up for it you link a debit card to it. When you use the phone to tap and pay, the funds get transferred from your debit card to the Serve card and then to the retailer. So the retailer never sees your debit card, just the Amex Serve card number. It's very easy to use, and like the person above said you get $1 back per purchase through the end of the year. I have also made over $300 back through the program. Been using it since April with the Galaxy S5 and now on my Note 4.
