Got my first CDMA Nexus on the day released. Was running IMOSEYON's Kernel at 1.42ghz and phone suddenly rebooted. Nothing I did from that point on would write to memory. Tried 2 or 3 ways to restore factory image but it didn't clear sdcard (as it's supposed to). Tried to relock bootloader using fastboot and it would say it did so but was unlocked again upon a reboot. Finally returned it under insurance. Had to pay deductible since it was permenantely rooted even though I think there was an electrical problem in the memory write circuit.
Got new phone and all was well until I dropped the thing last weekend on tile and cracked the screen (first time in 4 years of smart phones). Everything still worked, but returned it under insurance after restoring factory images (successfully). Another $100 bucks down the drain.
Got new phone. Set everything up and it started random reboots - particularly when charging. Reloaded CMR recovery that had worked so well. Still randomly rebooting.
Insurance is sending me my 4th phone in a month and a half (free this time). I broke one, but two out of three appear to have been duds. Quality control issues???
Anybody else having this kinda problem? I've used (rooted and rom'ed) an HTC Incredible, Droid Charge, Asus Transformer and Kindle Fire with no (permanent) problems. This is, frankly, disappointing.
HAve you tried using your phone stock without messing around with ROMS or bootloaders and custom kernels?
The majority of problems I've had with these types of devices have been with non-stock units...
It's probably because you are over clocking. Charging and using the phone with an overclocked processor generates a lot of heat. The phone will reboot on its own to save it from frying.
Scan the forums, other than your cracked screen you are describing known or soon to be known issues with the SGN.
I'm also on my fourth SGN. First had a line under the screen that looked like a crack. The next two had the lock up reboot issue and the one I'm on now isn't showing all the virtual SD space that all the others I received had, it's two gigs short.
It appears that quality control at Samsung is not as comprehensive as it should be.

If you want to complain on the phone then you should have stock room, if not you should complain in the rom thread. It sounds as if you have not had problems with the phone itself(on any of the phones), it sounds as if you have tampered with it. If so you shouldn't complain about the phone.

I'm also on my second defective Galaxy Nexus in a week. The first had horrible banding even at full brightness and a glitchy accelerometer or compass. You could open Google Sky Map and sit the phone on a table and watch it jump around the night sky. The new one has a creaky case, a green cluster of dead pixels in the center of the screen, and all of the greys are royal purple. Not cool. Samsung needs to work on their quality control.
If my third is a bum unit, I'm going either Razr MAXX or D4.

The phone would become unresponsive and reboot itself. Sometimes it would say the headset was connected and I would lose the microphone and speakers which was terrible when I was on a call because the other party couldn't hear me any more and I couldn't hear them. It was terrible. Sometimes it would force reboot multiple times in the course of a few minutes. I even tried just running plain stock but it made no difference.

Another unsatisfied VZW user. You guys have it rough.
Four times? You must break the spell!
If I were you I'd buy the next one thru authorized Verizon's Witch Doctor.
I've been offered the razr Maxx or whatever the highest gig iPhone is from Verizon to fix my issues. I'm very satisfied. I love my gnex I've just had so many issues I was curious if its my magically horrible luck or what.

I'm on my 3rd Nexus as well. First one the DAC half burnt out so I wasn't getting any audio through the earpiece and mic stopped working. Second one had faulty charging. Would charge it full and after in plugging it would still think it was charging and the phone would wake the screen by itself every so often causing huge battery drain.
The one I have now has a small problem but its tolerable. The speaker doesn't turn off immediately. There about a second or two of air and then when it does turn off it make a small pop sound.

My VZW Gnex has been fine. Every so often mine will drop a data connection, but so does every other LTE device. It's by no means wide spread.
I've been very pleased with mine so far. I'm glad to hear that Verizon is doing a good job of giving replacements to people with issues.
I have had charging issues where it thinks it is connected to charger, and keeped turning on the screen when idle. I also have problem with my headphone plug, where it sometimes thinks I have connected headphones which leads to no sound in the earspeaker and microphone turned off.
In addition I now have problems with sound only coming from one of the headphones when connected.
All this on the same phone, never returned it. Samsung QA really sucks...
Yea my charging issue is its just not charging 100% of the time. I have to do the BS bending the cord to the perfect spot

Clearly hardware issue if you've tried multiple SIMs.
Mine doesn't work. I was playing about 2 hours, locked it, went to see a friend, and when I took the mobile again, it was on "Google" logo, and never again passed from there. No Roms, no root, now I'm waiting Vodafone brings me a new one (Only 1 week old)
Well so much for great customer support. I called to get the phone sent and then they told me I could choose to receive a brand new phone in store. One guy flat out lied to me and told me that no stores within 50 miles had the phone then they had me on the phone for six hours before someone says we can only send a refurb so take it or dont. Horrible service yesterday so beyond less than pleased.

I just bought a Nexus yesterday form somewhere else for $100 more. But is a legit seller, super fast shipping, and I'm impatient so that 3 week wait would almost be worth $100.
Either way, if this deal works out good for you. I was just paranoid and actually paid a bit more to buy from a reputable seller and have peace of mind.

I saw numerous recent reports from new egg stating that their "new phone" came with the seals broken, Chinese business cards loaded inside, finger prints, and reports of device tampering (setup program didn't launch, went straight to home screen)
Often on sites such as this, they sell at low prices because they acquire a large stock of cheap devices from an over seas distributor, and having some of the phones having been tampered with would lower the price for them significantly.
Let's hope the sale is legit, and maybe just an overstock of silver/white phones......

Boot into the bootloader by holding down both volume up and down and power.
Scroll to recovery using the volume keys and select recovery.
When you see the android laying on his back press volume up and power. You might have to do it a few times. Eventually, it will show a menu.
Then clear user data and reboot.
Let me know if that works. You will lose your data but your phone will be functional again.
If that doesn't work we can try another method.

I'm going to try to do this tonight most likely when I get home.
I'm hoping there is a way to access the internal memory without booting the device. Someone recommended adp connecting via the computer, and somehow accessing the internal flash memory.
I'm going to copy/paste a well written explanation that details what I've done, researched, ect. In case anyone else finds this thread and hopefully they'll find it useful..
I'm experiencing a similar issue with my international version unlocked gsm galaxy nexus. My device is still on the stock ROM, not rooted, and no modifications. It had been updated to the latest version of Android available for this device via an ota update. My carrier is Tmobile USA.
I got it a few weeks ago from daily steals.com unsubsidized, and had been experiencing intermittent and random restarts of the device. This started about four days after getting the device, and would happen 3-4 times a week, sometimes multiple times per hour.
I researched online and found that random restarts were a common issue with galaxy nexus devices, especially gsm versions, and that at the time there were no known solutions to fix this issue besides factory resetting. Some users claimed after a hard reset, the device continued to randomly reboot. Others noticed the reboot issue stop upon the reset, but only to manifest itself again over time.
After about a week or two of this intermittent reboot issue, the phone seemed to have stopped restarting, or at least if it was, I wasn't noticing it (i.e. It was in my pocket, or I was sleeping).
Now, after it performing perfectly (as far as I know) for about a week, I thought it might have been a fluke, and that uninstalling some programs and updating others solved the issue, and it was just a software conflict.
Unfortunately for me, I was wrong. This afternoon after unplugging my phone from the wall and turning it on, it begun to boot loop. The previous night, I had let the device's battery completely drain to the point where the phone shut off.
Now it's not even staying on for more than 10 seconds at a time before restarting. If I can manage to click into an app before it restarts, it loads up fine, then it freezes, and I hear a Pop sound from the device and it restarts.
I haven't tried hard resetting the device yet, as I'm hoping there's a way to recover some of my data on the device first.
I did however somehow manage to boot it into safe mode once accidentally, which didn't do much as it still rebooted within ten seconds.
Some possible explanations that I've read across the internet include
1) general Android OS error
2) issue with wifi being turned on
3) possible issue with corrupted Sim card?
I've managed to turn off wifi in the few seconds the device was last on, but it still rebooted.
I removed my Sim card entirely and tried to boot as well, to no avail.
I've contacted Samsung USA, but they don't provide support for my device because it's the international version. They gave me a phone number for the UK Samsung support office, but I cannot dial it, as I believe it might be restricted on my phone plan, and I need to get a calling card.
I sent daily steals an email regarding this issue, but I'm not really expecting much from them.
Have many other people experienced the boot loop issue? I've seen a few incidents so far. Is it software? Hardware related?
Evidently people with custom roms are experiencing this issue as well, meaning it's a hardware issue, a software issue that certain roms share the same code, or a driver issue.
What's sad it's that my HD2 with Android hacked onto it still works fine, even after going through the washing machine full cycle while on with a fully charged battery...
Any thoughts/advice?
Thanks in advance for responding.

Ordered a GN from dailysteals on the 21st. It arrived at my door 8 days later. No issues with the brand new phone.
Ordered mine with the most recent sale. Received in about a week with the factory seal almost broken, but it was hanging on by just a little bit. The unit is brand new and no problems. Only thing was the adapter that dailysteals included for the charger did not fit the Samsung Euro wall charger. Luckily had another one.
Battery life has been fantastic so far. I took it out of the package turned it on and the battery lasted over 12 hours without a charge!
It is not a jakju unfortunately and I don't want to mess around with it. The Google Play store website shows it as a T-Mobile Samsung Galaxy Nexus too.
I bought my nexus when they had it on March 1st and I have no complaints. The phone came brand new in the box with the factory seal and has worked just fine since the day I got it. Even though I paid a little more then it is in I'm very happy with the purchase.

So I've had the SII since October. My original was fine (minus excessive blobs and lines which I just lived with) until I updated to the LDE update through Kies. I was stock unrooted at the time, and it sent it into a boot loop. Couldn't get it to master reset or even get into download mode. I took it in to T-Mobile and they couldn't get it to reset either. They ordered me a warranty replacement.
The replacement I received had random reboot issues. Serious issues, as in it randomly rebooted 50+ times in the 24 hours I had it. Master resets did not solve the issue. T-Mobile ordered me another warranty replacement.
The next replacement had a scratched screen. Very scratched, all over the screen, but very fine scratches that I only noticed it once it was in sunlight. It actually seemed they were underneath the screen, as you could not feel them when running your fingers over it. But severe enough the screen became unusable in sunlight. I had this one less than 24 hours. T-Mobile ordered me another replacement.
This replacement has a scuff mark on the internal body (which would normally be covered by the battery cover), left of the camera. There is also a horizontal line under the screen, approx. 1 1/2 inches from the top. It goes to mid screen, then a vertical line from that for approx. 3/4 inch, then another horizontal line to the other edge of the screen. This is noticeable in sunlight, whether screen is on or off. The screen matrix (pixel matrix?) is absolutely noticeable in sunlight as well. I've had this phone less than 24 hours. T-Mobile ordered me another replacement.
Has anyone else had issues with replacements? Is there any way to get them to send me a new phone instead of the refurbished (they confirmed all replacements are refurbished) ones I'm receiving?

Got my replacement from Samsung after the screen died. Well they didn't replace it, they just fix the problems (and replaced the dinged bezel) and sent it back. It was perfect after that.
I've never heard of bad coming from T-Mobiles replacement, but if they can't get it right, I'd suggest trying Samsung.

I've thought about just sending it in to Samsung if the next phone doesn't work out, especially since this will be the 4th replacement. I have another phone I can use (my HTC T-Mobile G2) in the meantime. How long did it take to get yours back?

They wouldn't except a repair on my phone which had tons of lines, because there was a scratch the screen which "voided the warranty"...

It took 10 days, if I remember correctly
I also bought my phone back in October. Despite the lines and blob issue, I did not get it replaced. Recently my phone call were directly going into my voicemail. Even after the master reset, problem persisted and T-mobile agreed to replace the phone under warranty.
Even though I was told that it will take up to 7 business days to get the replacement, I received mine in 2 days. Although there is no definite way to tell, but my replacement phone looked brand new and has not given me any problems so far. It doesn't even have the line/blob issue!
While talking to T-mobile I was assertive that this is my only phone and I need the replacement ASAP. I also asked for a new phone rather than a refurbished one. The rep told me she'll put a notification on the account but there is no way to guarantee that the replacement phone will be new. I guess it worked!
I hope this helps.
Good Luck!
So i received replacement #4 today. Initial inspection found no significant body damage, but there are still 2 horizontal lines of about a 1/4 inch on two sides of the screen noticeable in sunlight.
I'm beginning to think I'm being overly critical because of the previous faulty replacements I received. So i've decided to just keep this one. At this point I'm tired of the back and forth with the phones.
If I find I can't live with the screen issues at a later time, I'll either contact Samsung directly for it to be fixed or replaced, or ask T-Mobile about the alternate exchange program.
This one is now rooted and ready for some awesome custom ROMs that will be dropping shortly now that we have source!
Thanks for the tips/advice!

Man...sorry about that. I live in Puerto Rico. When i went to the store for a warranty replacement they gave me a brand new phone. I think all depends on their staff. Some are nice...some are not. Im telling you this because before go to this store i tried a different one...one close to where i live and the girl was so rude. She didnt even care nothing at all. Then i dedided to go to a different store and this girl was such a blessing. She gave me a new one and told me: Nobody gave you this phone as a present...if you paid for it you need a new one!

Im on my 4th now. Well itll be here on tuesday. I just got my thirdyesterday and the mic doesnt work. So during calls no one can hear me unless i put it on speaker. The secpnd they sent me had usb port issues and the last was completely screwy. I was firm with the last rep and asked if there was another option. They vasically said that their alternate exchange normally would come into effwct now because of how many defective phones ive had in the last 90 days but because this is "their best phone" any other phone would be considered a downgrade. The rep i spoke to today actually said that she noted the account so if my fourth has issues to just check if i can get something else first . Doesnt the sgs3 come ot on the 20th?. You think theyd give me that?. No, i havent scammed the system because i generally have had so many issues with this phone, unrooted abd rooted.

Still is, but only if they are offering an alternate replacement for the phone. Currently, T-Mobile is not offering any phone as an alternate replacement for the S2. Only a refurbished unit, or a new S2 if you're lucky depending on the inventory of refurbished units when your order is pulled. I looked into the alternate replacement and have verified it at multiple levels.

I recently had to replace a sgs2 under php warranty. Had horrid washed out screen colored and looked as if brushed aluminum. I am glad cuz right after the box arrived my original made in China t989 with the horrid build quality bricked and would never start again after I wiped and did a factory reset. The model I got as my replacement was made in Korea and had stock ICS installed. Also the screen is perfect and amazing.
I have to ask to those of you with nasty screens with blotches and lines. Are they made in China or Korea? I wonder if it is just China crap quality that is the cause while Korean made phones look and work well.

I just got my new from PHP too. Original was korea, new one is made in China. China's lines and blobs are way way less noticable. GPS seems to work faster. Wifi connects without a problem, but that may be the ICS.

I bought my GS2 used from Craigslist.
The previous owner didn't keep the phone on rubber case. So its got hairline scratches all over the plastic body and 2 dings. Butt he screen is flawless.
It pisses me of sometimes to look at the phone when I take it off the rubber case. Its probably not nice for someone who takes care of their devices and wants them in near mint condition.
I thought about switching my device with warranty exchange, but always feel bad about it. If I exchange it, the device has to have real fault. And Actually do have an issue with non-responsive touchscreen.
Its not happened again since ICS. Also reason I am not rooting is because I do want to exchange the device is the screen goes bonkers again.
But dam it would be nice if the previous owner took better care of the phone. Otherwise I'm happy with the phone. Sorta, still waiting on CM7/CM9 to arrive on this phone, bug free

How can you tell it's a brand new device?
they usually come in a blank white replacement box.

I have been using my KF for little under a month, first on Hellfire ICS, now on Glazed ICS.
Today I noticed that there is ghosting/artefacts on the screen where the status bar is in landscape mode (see photo). This persists in all apps, even fullscreen video like BS player. Is this a kernel issue, or do I genuine have LCD burn after less than a month? I keep brightness down to about 30% at all times. I tried installing GeDe and it was still present.

Shows in TWRP as well, so looks like a genuine hardware fault. It is literally a month old.
You probably want to take it to Amazon.

Is it burn or just image retention?
I am on my 3rd KF, the first two had image retention so bad that it was very annoying. If you viewed a screen of icons or text then went to a mostly clean screen you could still read the old contents for a minute or two. I called Amazon and they sent me out replacements without any issue at all. Just make sure you revert your KF back to stock and have it activate with Amazon before you call them. The first person I spoke to said that he could tell that I had just done a factory reset so he was not going to have me do it again.
My opinion is that a high % of Fires suffer from image retention but the stock colors and launcher make it less noticeable. It can be really easy to see with ICS installed as you can have more contrasting colors, with the stock launcher its all pretty gray.

If it's image retention then it must be a hardware flaw.
Yeah, it's persistent even after the KF being off overnight.
Thing is, I am in the UK, so I got it from a third party on eBay so going to have to sell it for spares...
Getting a Samsung Galaxy Tab 2 7.0 instead, UK seller and ICS as standard so hopefully won't happen on that...

Maybe you could just buy one of the IPS displays and replace it yourself.

I guess I'll be calling them up for a replacement.
I have no idea why I thought this was normal.

Agreed but many have it. For me its been 2 of 3, but the stock launcher color palate hides it quite a bit.

How are the tablets bought in the new yr? Does it still have screen issues like us early adapters?
My first run N7 2013 has no issues at all

I guess I should clarify the question is for people that bought theirs very recently like in Dec/Jan timeframe
My point is that like everything else it's more than likely you will get a good device, the percentage of bad devices is always low, forum posts aside

I bought my Nexus 7 in December. I am not noticing any major issues so far. Although sometimes there are ghost touches after many hours of continuous usage.

after having mine for a month im noticing what i thought were just software issues.
Screen stops responding to touch randomly or takes ages to notice you have your finger on somthing
and loads of coloured splodges on the screen when showing a dark image !
grr !
i love it though but once you notice its hard not to notice!!
Mine is just a couple of weeks old, it has difficulty registering touches when laying flat

You would think Asus and Google would quietly fix the hardware on new batches. Probably a design issue that cant be easily fixed. Yes yes kudos to the ones that doesn't have screen problems.
Have mine (LTE version) about a week or so, it sometimes fails to register touch when it's on desk.
but I notice another thing that , its back is not flat?? it can spin on my desk
Had this device since it was released, it had the screen issues(incredibly annoying on apps like PS Touch and the keyboard), now bought a Note 8, rapidly noticed the better screen responsiveness. I got curious about that too, I wonder if they fixed that for the new batch, I knew that not all flo devices had those problems but nevertheless still a shame if they haven't fix that by now.

Based on the responses....apparently not.
Mine had pretty bad issues when i first got it (initial release batch), the device was even crap enough that opening youtube app would hard reset the tablet every time. After the various updates that got rolled out, there is nothing wrong with my device. So they certainly fixed things for me following customer feedback.
I bought mine back in December and it misses touches in the upper region of the screen unless it is ground with either you hands or the charger. I did a few experiments to try and fix it, one thing I noticed when I tied a thin copper wire to the USB port is that it only took a finger on that piece of wire to ground it out and it worked perfectly. My question is whether there is a ground source inside the device where I could possibly solder this wire to in order to ground it out (ie. Battery ground or something)

First nexus 7 (2012) worked flawless for over a year, gave it to mother as she needs to learn technology and bought the 2013 in November
The non presses and random presses plagued me from the start of this one but I was naive and pretended not to notice, after a few weeks I did get annoyed and wanted my old one back! (But didn't) so being I needed mine for school I didn't want to RMA right away so I kept trying to find fixes for awhile longer. About 2 weeks ago I got fed up and was about to RMA it but then decided to just try the latest factory image (haven't used stock anything in a long time)
And well, haven't had one issue with touch since!
So to all with the common touchscreen issue I suggest trying pure stock KOT49H first along with bootloader, haven't had a chance to test any custom Roms for it yet as I've been too busy but I added twrp and rooted it and still zero issues so at least for me it has been fixed
Still one of the best buys out there, even with the 2 months of annoyances

I got my N7 2013 in early December. There's a small piece of dust under the screen, near the middle. I didn't even notice it until a few weeks ago. I can see it when I'm thinking about it, but most of the time I just ignore it or just fail to notice it.
Got my N7 2013 at the end of January. No problems initially, then a few small annoyances with a crossword puzzle app that I was willing to blame on the small letterboxes. Yesterday it did a full freeze, no responses to any touches anywhere. A power reboot cleared it up. I could blame it on the 4.4.2 upgrade which I did pretty soon after I got it, but this thread leads me to believe I should be going for an rma.
