I'm trying to use Google Wallet and seem to be having trouble getting it to register.
It was a MasterCard paypass terminal so that's not the issue.
Do you just turn on the phone and unlock or do you have to open the app?

Dumb question but.....Do you have nfc on?
Sent from my Galaxy Nexus using Tapatalk
Yup haha. Maybe I didn't hold my phone on the terminal long enough.
How long does it usually take? Also will an otterbox interfere with communication?
I thought I was having a problem with Google Wallet too, but then I realized that my chinese knockoff replacement battery didn't have the antenna built in.
It doesn't take but a few seconds. Google wallet isn't working for me either. If it's not a paypass machine that has to be updated then its just one that doesn't work correctly or according to them its my phone. I've had zero success using the nexus with google wallet but I have no problem using it on other phones.
I don't know how true this is but one of the cashiers told me they needed to update their paypass machines to work with newer phones...sounded dumb to me. Most of the time it will detect my phone and initiate the transaction but it will just hang and the money never moves leaving me look like a dumbass lol.

I've had intermitten results with using it. I have gotten it to work many times but other times encountered the exact same problem.
What I noticed was, if you open the app, select payment cards, then tap on the Google prepaid card, at the bottom you should see something that says User ID and below that your userid is listed. If you see "Can not contact bank" it will not work. Why it can't connect is the big mystery to me.
I've spent several hours over the past few days on the phone with them, sometimes they are having an issue and other times they say the system is up and running yet I still have the "Can not contact bank" issue going on even tho I have a strong signal and can browse the internet.
If anyone knows where you can get a citibank prepaid mastercard, I'd like to know so I can purchase one and set it up on the phone and then check and see if this is a wallet issue or more an issue with the folks Google is using to handle their prepaid card.
i have used it about 6 times the past 2 days, with no problems at all. i had a case-mate pop case on my first try and it did not work. but ever since i switched to the Cruzer-Lite Androidified A2 Case about a week ago, it has worked flawlessly. i have used it on vending machines, and it should take about 2 seconds, 5 seconds max.
you have to open the app first. i tried it without opening it and it didnt work.

Hey, First off a little information about my phone.. I purchased my phone from the play store, it came with Google wallet pre-installed. I didn't sign in to google wallet on the stock rom and went ahead to install cm9.
After installing cm9 I went to download wallet in the play store. Installed it, made an account and got free $10 from Google. I noticed that after installing cm9 it says "this device is not supported" when I open wallet, however I know this is because my rom is rooted.
So today I went to a local walgreens to try it out, picked up some mouthwash and went to wait in line. Once it was my turn I opened wallet and entered in my pin then placed it near the NFC reader, couple seconds passed and nothing happened. I tried a combination of different methods, tapping the NFC reader, holding it there, and moving the phone across it.
And yes...I have NFC enabled in the settings. Is there something I'm doing wrong?
It could just be the machine/card reader. I hit about 7 different stores before it worked. I also realized that if the clerk has to push a button then they may not know how it works. Not a lot of people using this method to pay. I have had the best luck at 7-11 and CVS.

HAHAHAHA those are the only two i have had success with. Cuz its a single tap and pay. If it vibrates and does a jingle... its working and if its a tap and pay then the cashier has to accept payment. If they are smart enough.... got a dead stare of "idiot" at Jack in the crack the other day.
To the OP if its doing ABSOLUTELY nothing something is wrong.

Ok it was said that if you bought this phone you would get $50 in Google wallet. Am I the only one who hasn't got their $50 yet? I mean like I've been waiting for days now and I still have no $50.

Sometimes it doesn't work for me...
Jack in the Box is the worst. If it doesn't work the first time I tell the clerk that I'm using Paypass and to please select that. I'm not sure what it is they do... pick credit or just hit the total button. 7-11, PetCo, Walgreens, Whole Foods, McDonalds, Rite Aid and one gas station in town all work great. Funny thing about JitB, they used to be listed in the Mastercard Paypass locator app but they've disappeared from the listings in my area. Oh... and I realize how wrong it is to use Whole Foods and Mcdonalds in the same statement.
As for it not being read... Since the antenna is in the battery I've learned to just hold the phone against the reader so the middle of the phone where the battery is closest to the reader, hold it there for several seconds and kinda wait for it to vibrate and chime. You don't need to be signed into GW at all, just have the screen unlocked and your default card will automatically be used.

Ahh..What I've observed was that the NFC reader light wasn't lit when I was trying to make the payment. Before it was my turn in light I noticed the guy in front of swiped his card and the NFC reader light blinked once. So I'm guessing the guy didn't push the button.....Made me look like an idiot in front of like 5 people lol.. I'll make sure to ask the clerk to press the button next time if it doesn't work

Thanks for the tip man. Maybe some of the NFC readers aren't as strong as other ones, requiring you to put it closer?
I have the exact problem. I do thinki it has something to do with being rooted and/or custom rom (CM9).
I had my Nexus for about 6 weeks before rooting it and installing CM9. During that time I used Google Wallet almost daily.
Once rooted apprx a week ago, I have not gotten it to work in the very same stores it did work previously.
What happens is when held against the reader, it vibrates and beeps as it should but nothing occurs on the cash register.
It have the "unsupported message" in google wallet.
I have enough funds in my Google Card
I have "NFC" enabled in settings.
Nexus GSM
CM9, N618
Any ideas?
This happened to me until i reset Google wallet. Being working fine since then even after flashing different versionsnof cm9. In fact tested it today after flashing today's build.

I have had no problems with my GPS getting a lock and keeping it when using waze or google maps. I received my Otterbox Defender 2 days ago and everytime I use the phone to navigate it constantly loses signal and has to relocate itself on the map. This is very annoying especially considering I've just moved and use navigation quite a bit. I have location set to high accuracy and also have tried toggling wifi on an off to see if it makes a difference. It loses location roughly every 30 secs to a minute. Could this be the case or the phone. I did not have his problem before case but never had problem on previous phones in defender case.

You could easily just try the old way without a case again, see if that temporarily fixes it. If it does, email otterbox and let them know you want first to try a replacement and if you still have issues a refund. Side note: the otterbox website says "coming soon" for the defender? How'd you get one!

The all black otterbox is now available jut sold old the colored versions are the ones coming soon. I actually picked mine up at a sprint retail store since official website had sold out. Thing is it is packaged in 3 seperate boxes now, you buy the inside for $34.99, the outside for $34.99, and the holster for $15.99 or $69.99 on Otterbox site for whole set. I will try GPS today without case and see if that's the problem.
Here are some pics of how they are packaged now

That's ridiculous! Why separately? You can't use the cover without the inner hard shell so that makes no sense. Thanks for the heads up I did see the cool color combos coming soon

I suppose otterbox is leaving it to the consumer to pick the colors they want or if you damage just the two or inner she'll you can replace just that part. I still find it ridiculous that I paid 74$ for just the case with no holster and that black was the only option.

That's interesting because I just started noticing this weekend that my phone has been doing that as well. Would find a lock no problem at first but can't maintain that lock. The GPS icon would disappear and then restart again after a few seconds to try and find a lock. Would happen every few minutes or so. The thing is, I don't have a case for my phone yet.

I have since tested the phone without the case and have the same results lose of GPS lock. Everything has worked fine since Oct 15th and now this. It is past the 14 day return period now so I wold have to make a warranty replacement. At this point idk what to do wait for OTA update and ope it fixes it or return phone
I've seen some other threads where people installed apps that use GPS navigation then navigation on maps became spotty. Do you have another GPS app running?

I just bought the Otterbox Commuter. I will try the GPS and report back. I hope the GPS is better than the Note 3 (which was terrible )

Not really sure. In my situation, I only have Google Maps and Ingress. It's weird because it just suddenly started happening. Either that or I haven't noticed it before until now. I tried booting the phone in safe mode to see if it still happens and it does. Probably my next step will be factory resetting and seeing what is going on.

So I found out something interesting. I did some research and think the GPS issue may be related to the SIM Card. I was reading the Note 3 thread on the AT&T forums and saw that some people had luck replacing their SIM Card and having the issue fixed. Funny thing is, this problem is happening with other phones too, not just Note 3 or Note 4. So I tried removing the SIM Card completely and walked around for about 10 minutes. GPS did not lose lock nor shut down and restart. When I put my SIM Card back in, the GPS lost lock and shut down/restarted within the first 3 minutes.
I wonder what is causing the issue. Its curious how the GPS and the Sim Card are related in some way. I will probably go to the AT&T store and try to swap out the SIM Card and see if this may resolve the problem. I'll report back once I get that done later today and see if it fixes the issue.
I can confirm 100% issues with GPS on my AT&T Samsung Galaxy Note 4. I bought it Sunday (12/28/2014) and noticed instant GPS inaccuracies, teleporting, not updating correct route information, etc. I got home, OTA'd, tried again the next day, same issues. Took it into AT&T yesterday (12/30/2014), guy instantly swapped, I stood right there and showed him exactly what was happening on the brand new, fresh out the box phone. "Hmmm, I'd give it a couple of days to.....uhhh.....calibrate, then bring it back if it doesn't work." Screw that, wtf is going on? Why do a select few of us have the problem and why does it continue to happen to the same people?
In another forum, a guy took his back not 1, not 2 but 3 TIMES, same gps issues everytime......... Add me to the list of people who've had multiple phones and the same gps issues. SIM related????? Maybe? I can't have another phone, I absolutely love this thing.
**EDIT** Had a Note 2 for close to 3 years, not one GPS problem.
Last night I finally setup android pay and thought I would use it on the bus this morning. I tapped and tapped and nothing happened so I quickly grabbed my bank card and used that. When I got to my seat a green tick appeared... So now I paid twice
I have a few questions if anyone can help?
- Is NfC quite slow to register when paying normally?
- Where is the sensor on the phone? Maybe I was tapping in the wrong place.?
- Does the android pay app need to be open when paying? I had it open but believe it should work with just phone unlocked.
- I have a thick rugged plastic and rubber case. Would that be an issue?
Thanks for your help any answers appreciated.
Since my first post I managed to get a coffee and into the train and think I have answered most of my questions...
- Slowness I think was just because it was the 1st time I had used Android pay. Subsequent payments are fast.
- NfC must be near the camera, works immediately when I tap there now.
- thick case is no problem.
- Phone works unlocked no need to open the app and displays a handy notification on screen for successful payment.
So I'm sorted and I'm not even in the office yet.
Not sure if buses hate me or the readers on buses are different but I'm finding NfC slow on buses in London. But great everywhere else?
You don't need to unlock the phone, just turn the screen on.
You've already answered your own questions, but yes the NFC chip is just under the camera and for me payment it's practically instant.
I only have two credit cards in Samsung Pay, and have gotten the above message for both of them a day or two apart. The email said I could re add them at any time, but they both still appear in the app. I thought this might be a Note 7 thing, but a Google search found this happening with Android Pay also, with no explanation or solution. Anyone else have this happen, and any ideas?
Did you have the cards on an older device? I think I had this happen at some point after exchanging Note 7's. Even though I'd wiped the old one, they eventually timed out on it and I got that message. It didn't effect my use on the new phone.

I think had Samsung Pay with these cards on previous Note 5. I would assume you could have SP on more than one device - ? But I did successfully use one card yesterday, which reassures me it's not a N7 thing. So I don't know what that was about with emails saying cards had been removed. Thanks!
Monday and Tuesday I used my android pay at work and then the past two days the NFC chip isn't being picked up. I noticed that it's not as strong as the one in my previous phone but is this chip weaker than other phones apple or android?
Make sure you're using the right part of the phone. The NFC chip is apparently just under the dual camera area.
The logo is the NFC area. Don't slap it against the top edge like an iPhone and you should be ok.
I'd say there's definitely something wrong with the NFC chip, maybe it's just under-powered, it's really hit or miss for me. Tried using Android Pay in 4 different shops, and it only worked once. I used both the area under the rear camera and around the Razer logo, no luck.
Definitely something wrong with my nfc chip too. Android pay works sometimes and not other times. Totally hit or miss
Sent from my Phone using Tapatalk
I think it's a bit hit or miss depending on the payment terminal. As strength seems to vary depending on shop.
Yeah, this phone is absolutely brutal for NFC range.
Tried it at lunch in my local fast food shop and took about 10-15 seconds to get it to work. I really miss the power of the iPhones NFC chip as it was as quick as taking it out your pocket and holding it near the terminal, scan the finger and done.
Now its like taking it out the pocket, unlock the phone then wave it around for 10-15 seconds to get the phones nfc chip detected.
I've tried at multiple vendors, it has worked at all for me. I just hold right under the camera on the scanner and it works every time.
never had an issue with mine scanning.... i do have an issue where it scans multiple times in succession, which causes the transaction be to declined for using multiple cards. Reading NFC tags read multiple times too.
My phone at the location did beep a few times and then send me a Android Pay error request form to fill out on the phone. Its a shop at work so not the worst place for it to fail on me but only happened at this location to me so far.
The chip really is weak or has a serious issue
half the shops I try it at say that i'm trying to use 2 contactless methods at once while the rest don't work at all
All I have to use it with is vending machines around here. I've had it work the times I've used it, but each time it would read incorrectly, forcing me to try again (working the second time).
the nfc chip doesnt seem to be as strong as it has been in my iPhone 6s Plus but its too hit or miss to say if its the phone or the contact payment terminal where the fault is. I have a local Tesco i have no problems with at 3/4 desks and one where it doesnt work at all.
The shop have said some people have issues at this desk but doesnt explain the one terminal at work in our shop where it worked for the 1st two days with some hassle and now doesn't work at all.
Ive been told to unlock the phone hold it to the terminal and wait for the tick before removing the phone but sometimes at the local shop at work in the 2 days it would error 1-3 times before being successfull however i just gave up at the point it didnt work at all on day 3
based on the poor nfc chip which i can only assume is hardware related as i dont see software correcting the issue im going to invest in an android watch with a nfc chip in it and use that.
Currently when i switched over from iPhone 6s Plus and iWacth 1st gen i picked up a Razer Nabu watch to get me through to xmas but feel i need a bit more than the smart features this is currently providing me with. Its not got any support as such as the data from the watch doesn't want to communicate with Google fit and do miss the nfc.
Unsure which watch to get so looking at this currently
