Hey, First off a little information about my phone.. I purchased my phone from the play store, it came with Google wallet pre-installed. I didn't sign in to google wallet on the stock rom and went ahead to install cm9.
After installing cm9 I went to download wallet in the play store. Installed it, made an account and got free $10 from Google. I noticed that after installing cm9 it says "this device is not supported" when I open wallet, however I know this is because my rom is rooted.
So today I went to a local walgreens to try it out, picked up some mouthwash and went to wait in line. Once it was my turn I opened wallet and entered in my pin then placed it near the NFC reader, couple seconds passed and nothing happened. I tried a combination of different methods, tapping the NFC reader, holding it there, and moving the phone across it.
And yes...I have NFC enabled in the settings. Is there something I'm doing wrong?
It could just be the machine/card reader. I hit about 7 different stores before it worked. I also realized that if the clerk has to push a button then they may not know how it works. Not a lot of people using this method to pay. I have had the best luck at 7-11 and CVS.

HAHAHAHA those are the only two i have had success with. Cuz its a single tap and pay. If it vibrates and does a jingle... its working and if its a tap and pay then the cashier has to accept payment. If they are smart enough.... got a dead stare of "idiot" at Jack in the crack the other day.
To the OP if its doing ABSOLUTELY nothing something is wrong.

Ok it was said that if you bought this phone you would get $50 in Google wallet. Am I the only one who hasn't got their $50 yet? I mean like I've been waiting for days now and I still have no $50.

If you bought it from sprint and activated wallet before 5/22. Then yes in 5days-3 weeks you will. I just recently got mine and I ordered it in march.

Sometimes it doesn't work for me...
Jack in the Box is the worst. If it doesn't work the first time I tell the clerk that I'm using Paypass and to please select that. I'm not sure what it is they do... pick credit or just hit the total button. 7-11, PetCo, Walgreens, Whole Foods, McDonalds, Rite Aid and one gas station in town all work great. Funny thing about JitB, they used to be listed in the Mastercard Paypass locator app but they've disappeared from the listings in my area. Oh... and I realize how wrong it is to use Whole Foods and Mcdonalds in the same statement.
As for it not being read... Since the antenna is in the battery I've learned to just hold the phone against the reader so the middle of the phone where the battery is closest to the reader, hold it there for several seconds and kinda wait for it to vibrate and chime. You don't need to be signed into GW at all, just have the screen unlocked and your default card will automatically be used.

Ahh..What I've observed was that the NFC reader light wasn't lit when I was trying to make the payment. Before it was my turn in light I noticed the guy in front of swiped his card and the NFC reader light blinked once. So I'm guessing the guy didn't push the button.....Made me look like an idiot in front of like 5 people lol.. I'll make sure to ask the clerk to press the button next time if it doesn't work

Thanks for the tip man. Maybe some of the NFC readers aren't as strong as other ones, requiring you to put it closer?
I have the exact problem. I do thinki it has something to do with being rooted and/or custom rom (CM9).
I had my Nexus for about 6 weeks before rooting it and installing CM9. During that time I used Google Wallet almost daily.
Once rooted apprx a week ago, I have not gotten it to work in the very same stores it did work previously.
What happens is when held against the reader, it vibrates and beeps as it should but nothing occurs on the cash register.
It have the "unsupported message" in google wallet.
I have enough funds in my Google Card
I have "NFC" enabled in settings.
Nexus GSM
CM9, N618
Any ideas?
This happened to me until i reset Google wallet. Being working fine since then even after flashing different versionsnof cm9. In fact tested it today after flashing today's build.

Sucks... my right hand man got stolen yesterday.. so customized and so many good photos and videos on it.. crap!! I'm in the Dominican Republic.. 2nd to last day of a 2 week vacation and someone takes it when I wasn't looking off a table at a restaurant! I almost transferred photos the previous night too! Anyway just had to let some people know that can truly feel my pain. Anyone know Asurion's deductible on this phone? I can't do anything with my Sprint account or Asurion till I get back in the states cuz I cant figure my pin or my "first car" security question and I think Sprint site it blocked from loggin in this country..
I was at work and had my phone charging next to demo phones bc we were slow. Next thing I know it was gone. I immediately went to the door and locked it and called my number hoping I would catch someone in the act and lay it on them...it started ringing next to a couple that was with my manager. Seeing the look in my eye he immediately said that he took it off the charger so no one took it. I think the red on my face gave it away that I was going to get it and get fired by my actions or it was going to get handed back to me. Luckily I have phone nerds watching my back when I get busy lol.

Sorry to hear your phone got stolen (especially with your awesome pictures). The deduction for a new phone will be $100 thru the TEP. You can do it online, as long as you order before 11pm, you should have your phone the next day, unless its on backorder.

Install Plan B from the android market, it's free (https://market.android.com/details?id=com.lookout.labs.planb)
If your phone is still on, it'll download itself to your phone and send you an email about its location. You can also text your phone a keyword (I think it's 'locate', the exact word is on the android marketplace) and it'll give you an updated location. It might not work, but it's worth a try.
^ There's a good idea. And in the future you should really have something like Androidlost on it so you can track and wipe it remotely.
I kinda want mine to be stolen. I have mine set that whenever it boots another number I have gets a text with its network location and gps location. I can also text it a word and it will respond with the location. I have not yet figured out how to wipe the device with a modded rom so if they remove the sd card they have access to all of my pics and info, but I'll know where they are and I have another action text word to take a pic and send to me so I'll see who they are too.
OP that blows I'm sorry. When I got this phone I had a nightmare that a idiot took my phone and accudentally bricked it. I was pissed! Lol

yes and no, does that make any sense? lol. My phone is a part of me so that would suck, but because it is a part of me I have set up ways to track it if lost. Sure I could give my phone to a friend to test, but my friends are like me and I might get one location before they wiped it. I would like to know how effective my precautions and protections are against a real world situation.
What apps can take pictures of the thief ?

Well I installed plan b.. wish there was an app I could install remotely that would wipe the phone automatically.. or self destruct it..hehe... thanks for the replies and ideas. I tried to claim through asurion but my pin is wrong as well as my 'first car" question.. would be nice because I get home Friday.. would be nice if there was new one waiting. Does anyone know what the default "pin" could be .. like date of birth .. or something else? I tried date of birth but didn't work unless it's a different format.
i think the default pin is 123456. i could be wrong though...
i just know that when i got my evo, i never picked a pin and that's what i had when i finally remembered to change it.
Not the same, but wanted to comment on getting stuff stolen.
You can never be too cautious. About 10 years ago, I went to Mexico with my school (senior year Spanish class trip), and we were getting ready to leave from a hotel. We were sitting on a bench, 3 guys, and I went to help people get the bags in the bus. Told the guys to watch the bag, but a few seconds later I saw them next to me. So I ran to the bench, and it was gone. Had a brand new digital camera (3mpx back then), my CD player with all my CDs, etc. It just messed the entire trip. It was bad.
I'd like to say that when you're out of your comfort area you can never be too cautious...but...you can NEVER be too cautious no matter where you are. I didn't get anything, but I surely tried looking everywhere to see if I could find somebody with my bag, or the camera, etc.
The thing with the phone, is that nowadays, the phone is your digital camera, your CD player, your facebook portal, has your email, documents... This summer, my wife left her phone at McDonalds. We were on a 1000-mile trip, so this was just one stop in the middle of nowhere. Right away I asked her to check for her phone. She thought I had it, I thought she got it...Had to turn around in the highway (one of those "only emergency vehicles" turns) and went back to McD. Of course she was freaking out. Her facebook, the phone was unprotected, had access to all her mail, her contacts, etc, etc. I went there, looked for it, called it, nothing. Looked like if someone was hanging up when I called. I asked the manager at McD and I guess somebody cleaning found it and brought it to the back.
I was of the lucky ones.
Follow these guys' advice: protect your phone, because you don't know when sh$t will happen. It could be you, your girlfriend, wife, daughter, son, husband...somehow, somewhere, chances are a phone may go missing. So protect it while you can.
I'm trying to use Google Wallet and seem to be having trouble getting it to register.
It was a MasterCard paypass terminal so that's not the issue.
Do you just turn on the phone and unlock or do you have to open the app?

Yup haha. Maybe I didn't hold my phone on the terminal long enough.
How long does it usually take? Also will an otterbox interfere with communication?
I thought I was having a problem with Google Wallet too, but then I realized that my chinese knockoff replacement battery didn't have the antenna built in.
It doesn't take but a few seconds. Google wallet isn't working for me either. If it's not a paypass machine that has to be updated then its just one that doesn't work correctly or according to them its my phone. I've had zero success using the nexus with google wallet but I have no problem using it on other phones.
I don't know how true this is but one of the cashiers told me they needed to update their paypass machines to work with newer phones...sounded dumb to me. Most of the time it will detect my phone and initiate the transaction but it will just hang and the money never moves leaving me look like a dumbass lol.

I've had intermitten results with using it. I have gotten it to work many times but other times encountered the exact same problem.
What I noticed was, if you open the app, select payment cards, then tap on the Google prepaid card, at the bottom you should see something that says User ID and below that your userid is listed. If you see "Can not contact bank" it will not work. Why it can't connect is the big mystery to me.
I've spent several hours over the past few days on the phone with them, sometimes they are having an issue and other times they say the system is up and running yet I still have the "Can not contact bank" issue going on even tho I have a strong signal and can browse the internet.
If anyone knows where you can get a citibank prepaid mastercard, I'd like to know so I can purchase one and set it up on the phone and then check and see if this is a wallet issue or more an issue with the folks Google is using to handle their prepaid card.
i have used it about 6 times the past 2 days, with no problems at all. i had a case-mate pop case on my first try and it did not work. but ever since i switched to the Cruzer-Lite Androidified A2 Case about a week ago, it has worked flawlessly. i have used it on vending machines, and it should take about 2 seconds, 5 seconds max.
you have to open the app first. i tried it without opening it and it didnt work.
So, i've come into a galaxy nexus, that took a swim some time ago (several months).
It powers on, appears to work, other than a few things. And i'm wondering if these are things that might be repairable.
It appears to read a sim card (moved my card from my Droid 4), but it doesnt appear to find service. I assumed it would at least allow me to dial the *228 programming number, it doesnt even let me do that.
WiFi works.
The camera does not appear to work. Opening the camera app, it waits a short time, and then just crashes. I assume this is because the camera module is water damaged.
So. I suspect i'm dealing with an otherwise working device, with a failed camera module, and maybe cdma/lte module.
Can these be replaced? Is it worth the expense?
Thanks!
Edit - sorry for the typo in the title...
My one and only answer.
Buy a new one. If it works, then just extract the data out of it and put it in the computer.
U never know how much the repair will be.

Yea.. if i wanted to spend $700 on it, i'd do that... Point is, i got this thing for free, and if i can get it working for less than $700, i make out in the end.
I'm looking to buy parts and repair this thing myself, for fun, i'm not depending on the thing, i have a working Droid 4 that i use as my cel phone. If i get this thing working for cheap, i may switch to it.
Thanks.

Thanks for taking the time to respond, really, but $350 still is not equal to free.
If i decide i want a nexus so badly that i'd pay even $350, i'll go this route. For now, i'm trying to cobble this one back together.

Looks like I got the camera working! I took the phone apart, disconnected the camera module, and reconnected it. Boom! camera works.
I also disconnected a number of other parts while i was in there, not sure if any of them was the cel service module. I did disconnect an antenna, though i think that's for wifi.
Cel service still seems to be no-go.

At the very least if you can't get the mobile network working you'd have a pretty sweet Nexus4.65 that has a camera
Sell that thing on ebay for maybe 50-100 bucks and get a new one.
Or go to the market you've bought that and ask how much they want for repair.
umm... 700$? I thought the price for the galaxy nexus is now about 300-400$..
Unbelievable, i think i've fixed it.
Opened it up again, and took a close look at that antenna module. Now that I knew what I was looking for.
Disconencted it, and found that one of the antenna leads had come off.
Connected it, put it back together, put in my sim, IT WORKS!
Gonna use it for a little, see if i find anyting else wrong with it. I think i may have just gotten a free nexus!
And the $700 was an estimate. The guy who gave me this phone, said he paid over 600 for a replacement from verizon after he dunked it.
Ouch.
The GSM model on the google market seems to be $350. This is the verizon model, and apparently they absolutely rape you when you buy one.

From what I hear from Americans about Verizon, that's all they do to everyone
So far so good. Ive been using it as my primary phone since i got it working yesterday. Played audio from it in the car last night and this morning. Used my Bluetooth headset with it last night. So far so good.
I want to get a car dock for it, the 3-pin kind. Just hope that 3-pin connector is working. I dont have any way to test that.
you can always check here if you need any replacement parts: http://www.parts4repair.com/samsung-galaxy-nexus/

Love this awesome phone but as of late the proximity sensor on this note has either broke or is buggy. First started to notice that the red light of the proximity sensor would not turn off. After a while as I make phone calls my screen will turn off but as I put my phone away from my face it doesn't turn back on. This may not seem like a big problem but if I can't have full control of my phone it is rather bothersome. For example I cannot properly end calls or switch to speaker phone or utilize my phone during the call. It is rather annoying talking while keeping the screen on because I end up click all sorts of things while my face is on the phone. Need help in fixing it. Tried rebooting, turning proximity sensor on and off, battery pulls but nothing. It sometimes returns back to normal after a while but due to my line of work I cannot afford to estimate when it's going to work. Any help would be great. I apologize in advance if this issue has already been addressed. Thanks!

I do have a case but I tried taking it off and it still has same symptoms. I also tried turning the settings on and off. Maybe it's the screen protector but my sgp sits right below the sensor so I doubt it's that either.

It happened while completely stock and also rooted as well. I also tried rebooting and battery pulls but same results. I think I'm going to bring it to the sprint store. The funny thing is I brought it in before and magically the tech got it to work again. I was thinking maybe it was the way I was holding it. But I tried holding it with either hand and it still occurs. Hopefully this time I can reproduce it again. I'm fed up trying to figure this out.

Just an update:
I brought it back to my local Sprint store to have the device checked out a 2nd time last week. I was able to reproduce the problem to the CSR and they immediately took it in to get it repaired. Told me to come back in a hour to come pick it up. Hour came up and as I inquired about my phone, the Sprint technician told me there was nothing she could do since it was rooted and simply handed me back my phone without a single explanation. I asked them how rooting a phone physically caused my proximity sensor to not work, and they simply shrugged. I then asked the CSR to please tell me what I can do alleviate this problem and he simply said, "I never rooted my phone before, so I don't know what to tell you". I was shocked because I work in sales and never before have I ever said that to a customer. I decided not to argue even though I know I could have and asked for the manager. I then decided to unroot my phone and go back to stock to see if that would magically fix my problem and of course it didn't.
Today, I went to the Sprint store near my work place, and HOLY COW, it was different. No wait, no line, and when I went to talk to the CSR and technician they were friendly and took the time to try to fix the problem. The tech went to through all the basics, doing a battery pull, hard reset, and even suggested to take off my SGP screen protector (I KNOW! I really didn't want to!). Unfortunately it didn't work, and the CSR told me to come back in a few days so they would order me a new one. Excited to hear that, I then asked them to specify which day and probably not wanting to deal with me anymore, decided to give me a brand new one on the spot. They set everything up and even gave me the box and everything, so now I have an extra charger, cable, and earbuds. It just goes to show how different Sprint procedures are. Both stores were Sprint owned stores, and both had the same technical support yet I was treated so differently.
To anyone having the same problems, please do yourself a favor and just unroot it just in case. I find that some stores will do or say anything to not replace your phone. I have been a loyal Sprint customer for almost 6 years and I feel that they will still treat you like crap.
i would report the first store for sure

Brought my phone in to a sprint repair center store. They fixed it by replacing the sensor. Before I left I inspected it thoroughly, they broke the volume rocker and now they're ordering me a new one since they didn't have the grey in stock and back ordered.
Oh wow well at least it goes to show they are aware of the problem and I guess it's better that you will be getting a new phone.

I would bring it in. To me if something is working incorrectly it is every right for you to get an exchange. I mean I paid $300 for this phone, I better get one that works flawlessly.

Thanks!

The reason the red light stays on is because you have smotion on. With smotion the proximity sensor stays on the whole time. If you turn it off the red light will go off. Don't know if that will also fix your other problem. With the smotion on I don't have any issues.

Well after a few hours of work/waiting I am sad to say that I did not benefit from the good customer service you got.
I went in today around 10 and dropped off my phone to be looked at by the Tech, who was not in until 11.
Around 12:15 I got a call (on my wifes phone) and they let me know that the phone would have to be entirely replaced. The tech told me he could not swap one out for me. I asked to speak to a manager.
Manager, "hello this is Matt"
Me: "Hi Matt, (explained issue again) and I was hoping you guys could replace my phone for me. "
Manager: "We don't have any phones available for that, we will have to order one from the depot"
Me: ' Oh, you don't have any note II's at the store?"
Manager: "We do, But they are for new customers and activation's only.
Oh... WAIT WHAT?
Ok ok. I understand that if he isn't allowed to and MUST order them from the depot....BUT HOW ARE YOU STUPID ENOUGH TO SAY THAT?
I have worked in various customer service capacities for most of my life, and here is what he said sounded like to me:
(not a real quote): "Here at Sprint and/or our store new customers and activation's are the priority."
What he should have said: "I am sooooo sorry. I am not allowed to do that, I absolutely would if I could. How about I order one from the depot for you and let you know as soon as I have an arrival date?"
sigh. So after all that, because I don't have TEP (sprints monthly insureance) I have to pay $35 to get a "new device"
They PROMISED me that it would be new and not refurb. So we will see how that works out.
Thank you for patiently hearing (reading?) my rant......
Monday and Tuesday I used my android pay at work and then the past two days the NFC chip isn't being picked up. I noticed that it's not as strong as the one in my previous phone but is this chip weaker than other phones apple or android?
Make sure you're using the right part of the phone. The NFC chip is apparently just under the dual camera area.
The logo is the NFC area. Don't slap it against the top edge like an iPhone and you should be ok.
I'd say there's definitely something wrong with the NFC chip, maybe it's just under-powered, it's really hit or miss for me. Tried using Android Pay in 4 different shops, and it only worked once. I used both the area under the rear camera and around the Razer logo, no luck.
Definitely something wrong with my nfc chip too. Android pay works sometimes and not other times. Totally hit or miss

I think it's a bit hit or miss depending on the payment terminal. As strength seems to vary depending on shop.
Yeah, this phone is absolutely brutal for NFC range.
Tried it at lunch in my local fast food shop and took about 10-15 seconds to get it to work. I really miss the power of the iPhones NFC chip as it was as quick as taking it out your pocket and holding it near the terminal, scan the finger and done.
Now its like taking it out the pocket, unlock the phone then wave it around for 10-15 seconds to get the phones nfc chip detected.
I've tried at multiple vendors, it has worked at all for me. I just hold right under the camera on the scanner and it works every time.
never had an issue with mine scanning.... i do have an issue where it scans multiple times in succession, which causes the transaction be to declined for using multiple cards. Reading NFC tags read multiple times too.
My phone at the location did beep a few times and then send me a Android Pay error request form to fill out on the phone. Its a shop at work so not the worst place for it to fail on me but only happened at this location to me so far.
The chip really is weak or has a serious issue
half the shops I try it at say that i'm trying to use 2 contactless methods at once while the rest don't work at all
All I have to use it with is vending machines around here. I've had it work the times I've used it, but each time it would read incorrectly, forcing me to try again (working the second time).
the nfc chip doesnt seem to be as strong as it has been in my iPhone 6s Plus but its too hit or miss to say if its the phone or the contact payment terminal where the fault is. I have a local Tesco i have no problems with at 3/4 desks and one where it doesnt work at all.
The shop have said some people have issues at this desk but doesnt explain the one terminal at work in our shop where it worked for the 1st two days with some hassle and now doesn't work at all.
Ive been told to unlock the phone hold it to the terminal and wait for the tick before removing the phone but sometimes at the local shop at work in the 2 days it would error 1-3 times before being successfull however i just gave up at the point it didnt work at all on day 3
based on the poor nfc chip which i can only assume is hardware related as i dont see software correcting the issue im going to invest in an android watch with a nfc chip in it and use that.
Currently when i switched over from iPhone 6s Plus and iWacth 1st gen i picked up a Razer Nabu watch to get me through to xmas but feel i need a bit more than the smart features this is currently providing me with. Its not got any support as such as the data from the watch doesn't want to communicate with Google fit and do miss the nfc.
Unsure which watch to get so looking at this currently
