DUDE! Are you really trying to set the record for bad or repetitive questions. READ a little please. There is only 3 freakin ROMs for EL30, Sleeper, Hoffman's and stock deodexed. There is barely a couple of pages on these new ROMs. Go to Development and read....PLEASE!
3 things to never ask: 1) for an ETA
2)What's the best ROM...there all ****ing good
3)Which ROM has the best battery life...meaningless since everyone uses their phone differently

All ROMs suck. They will brick your phone and it will explode. ROMs are Googles means of mind control. When you flash a new ROM you are signing a contract that promises the developer your next born child. And don't even get me started on rooting...did I lay the sarcasm on thick enough?
That said there are only two to choose from....so....wing it. 1 and 2.
I recommend skipping EL30 all together. CM7 is the way to go in my opinion.
And while this is the only thread for EL30 ROMs, this is still a thread topic we try to avoid. For future reference please PM a senior member.
EDIT: AHH Kenny beat me!

OK seeing as my previous question seemed to be ****e
In your opinion what would you consider the bes rom to use for WM6. And what are the pros and cons of it?

All the current Rom's are good. As others have stated, it really depends on what you use your device for. Do you like a lot of apps pre-loaded with less space or do you like to load your own apps.
Again, it is up to you,....Just try one or two and decide for yourself...then you can write a review of the Rom's you tried...
If one thread was closed,,,this one will also be closed soon...good luck

I really wanted 2nd post.

speaking from experience ??
Dude, it's like asking "what's the best car?"
You gotta first know what you want and need.
Then you gotta research for the viable options.
Then you gotta ask some targeted questions.
Then you may have to try a couple on.
Asking "which is the best ROM?" is just ignorant. If you can articulate what you are specifically looking for (stable OR fast OR latest updates OR etc.) then maybe you have a chance at someone giving you a meaningful answer.
If there was one ROM that is fastest, most stable, with the latest updates, then there'd only be one ROM.

Very useful comments, all of you, i have to admit... Is this the kind of posts that made you become senior members?
How about quick explanation to the poor guy that there are different opinions and flavours of different ROMs and that nobody can define the best ROM, but he has to try several and choose one? Based on stability, rapidity, features, etc?
Ive been reading this forum for quite a while now, and i see it decading. maybe its because everybody knows everybody and u want to keep it this way, any newcomer is not welcome..

yes, and i agree any new member should start by reading a lot and then post. but as in life, you dont happen to meet only perfect people. and then what do you do? kill/hate/laugh at all the others? or maybe try to tell them smth and make them realize stuff, or just ignore them and do smth useful with your time?
i know it might get frustrating after a while, but there will surely be more like that guy coming this way, so ull get crazy at the end...

I figured I would let you tell the guy so you could be a senior member too......who cares junior or senior members should think before they ask. I think the best no joke response is the guy looking at this from a perspective of buying a car. Oh and ask me what car is best....I will tell you a Yugo.
At least somewhat of a starting point. I'll also say this. That unless you are really willing to invest some time (and frustration) into flashing ROMs, you may want to stick with the official ROMs. One was just released for the Hermes WM6. Please install Olipro 2.10 first before trying to flash. And please don't blame anyone but yourself if you brick your phone.

EC05 Rom Ideas for development

So were are all the new EC05 roms with one flash. currently we have to use odin and flash..... this sucks....
So if people are gonna build EC05 custom roms or anyother for that matter then please keep this in mind
1. no ext 4 with journaling disabled.
2. keep carrier iq as we can not be sure what is broken by removing it. and sprint has it their for a reason...
3. keep all sprint programs and just add the ones you want to to the custom rom.
4. make touch wiz the standard interface (it really is awsome)
5. keep it as stock as possible.

Um, this is posted on the wrong forum first off. secondly, Wouldnt that just be a stock EC05 rom rooted?
Seriously? This again, so you want a bone stock 'custom rom' as you would call it....lol.....the madness around here lately.....
Just flash the stock rom and call it good. No need to make a thread requesting a stock rom.
Yea, I agree. I love having Sprint spy on me, and rfs is soo much better, and who DOESNT like Sprint bloatware? Chefs, cook that up immediately! Im sure everybody here agrees with us too! Chefs..Snap snap...Hold the Odin

RFS is a poor choice compared to EXT4. Why anyone would want a ROM that uses it is beyond me, but it may be a good idea to have the ROMs as RFS/EXT4 capable when possible, but where not, EXT4 is by far the better option

I doubt much support will be gained for leaving in CIQ. Most ROMs are built to remove as much bloat as possible, and CIQ certainly fall into that category.
3. keep all sprint programs and just add the ones you want to to the custom rom.

Counterproductive. In most cases, ROMs are made to be as slim as possible. the better way is to have a single update.zip file that installs the stock and/or extra apps

Then what is the point? Most ROMs are trying to improve on stock as much as possible. any one wanted a "close to stock' ROM, can just root and install a modded kernel, and be at that point already. ROMs mostly aim to branch out as far as possible from stock, going above and beyond the stock experience.

First, this section is for development, not just talking about development. So if you start a thread here, people expect you to be developing something.
Second, the ROM you are requesting has already been developed and published by Sprint/Samsung.

Ha... this thread just made my day.. the ego.. the posted responses are correct.. odin flash ec05, use clockwork 2.5.5 to keep your rfs and gain root.. and your rom will be as u requested. No need to mandate that our devs waste their time making u a rom when they should be worrying about the rest of us who want something that's actually better than stock

So Confusing..

I'm still new to this device. I'm having issues figuring out which kernels go to which version of GB and ICS.
Which Kernels will work on EL29 only?
Which ones will work on ICS and GB (EL29)
Why are kernels and Recovery mixed together? Why not make it simple to understand and locate?
EL29 Kernel ver 1.3.3 GB only - Example. Now I know I can't use this on ICS, only version EL29 of GB. Oh and it's a Kernel.
Not a recoveryIcsv13.3..3.3kerneldotninerwtfz0rz.tar.zip. That makes it confusing.
Anyone able to offer any clarity or an decoder ring so that I may understand this better?
If want to try a new kernel for EL29 GB, I can't because I have not farking clue if I'm getting one with a recovery, if it's GB or ICS only etc.
If I want to try an ICS kernel, but use it on GB, I'm lost because I thought they weren't compatible but people are apparently doing it.
Also, recoveries. "Don't use hitman" seems to be the theme. Along with Touch CWM being another issue.
Rogue Recovery is hitman? or hitman is hitman?
While this phone is superior to the Evo3D, at least the development wasn't a greek VCR manual from 1928.
Zzzz
sounds like you need to do a lot more reading before you mess with this phone.
This Forum was always for Developers, not for Newbies, so its organized with that in mind..
there are other forums you may want to visit as well, where they cater more to novices; or, just do the smart thing, and don't mess with your electronic devices unless you are 99.99% sure you know what you are doing
Read and read and then read some more.....Samsung puts recovery in kernel nothing we can do about that ....most kernels will have a recovery in them ..these leaks are different right now...they are using ics 3.0 kernels on ics but not on GB ....the people you have seen are taking the radio fb21 etc .... Read and be safe don't be a brick

Isn't it better to know this stuff BEFORE you do something to break your phone?
I mean, you wouldn't want a surgeon to operate on you until he was sure he knew what he was doing, would you?
Its no different with this stuff; you'll be much happier if you build your knowledge about this thing before you go messing with it.
Its no reflection of your intelligence, its just a statement of fact about your current abilities as they pertain to this phone..

well, since you seem to be a know it all, why don't YOU answer them?
at what point during my post did I indicate I know it all?
All the stock and stock repacked GB kernels can be mix/matched between the different stock GB releases. They will NOT boot for an ICS ROM.
All the stock and stock repacked ICS kernels can be mix/matched between the different stock ICS releases. They will NOT boot for a GB ROM.
By "work" I mean they boot and data works. Beyond that, you'd have to experiment to see if what you care about works to your expectations. In general things will work, but I obviously don't test everything, and the combination Samsung/Sprint tests is matched kernels and ROMs.

I'm buying this phone today. Coming from a NS4G. Now, I'm no noob when it comes to rooting/flashing/modding...however...the development for this device and the way you have to go about doing things with it are waaaaaay different. And I will agree with OP: it is confusing reading through some of this stuff, even for people with experience. But I also agree with some of the others: don't root or go beyond that until you have a good understanding of what you are doing.
As XDA has been very good to me I can say that the Nexus crowd is way more helpful to noobs, apparently.

its really only different if you are flashing LEAKED, non official roms..
The problem is that too many noobs with no idea what they are doing, don't want to spend anytime learning what they are doing, and hear about these ics roms, and just gotta have them..Then, they start flashing crap that they have no idea about, brick their phones, they post stuff all over the place, begging for someone to rescue them RIGHT NOW...
Its like getting behind the wheel of a car, with out taking drivers ed, or practicing, only bad things are going to happen if you do that..
There are tons of helpful folks here, with hundreds of "thanks", and thousands of posts, so obviously, there is a ton of cooperation and help going on here..
It just gets old, really fast, when 20 people ask the same question about a leaked, not even beta rom; and, to make it worse, the answer is usually a few posts ahead of theirs, or in the OP..
Too many people feel this sense of entitlement here lately, and, for those of us who are always helping, always offering our assistance, it gets pretty old sometimes..
Obviously, you know what YOU are doing, and, you at least took the time to get a basic understanding of your phone..plus, you've obviously read through these threads, and realize that it is a bit different to flash stuff on this phone.
Thats more than quite a few of the noobs here have taken the time to do..
Some people rely on others before they rely on their selves. That isn't always so bad, but I know it gets old. I probably won't mess with my Galaxy until I find exactly the ROM I want with everything working and I understand Odin a little better...the NS4G was sooooo simple...it's like they were begging you to root it. It was like get fastboot and adb then type a few things and boom, it's done. This is a bit more complicated and there isn't just a recovery you flash and leave on your phone to flash everything else(as far as I know)

well, actually there is; there are actually 2 different ones, depending if you are using a "released, el29" type of rom, or one of the "leaked" ICS type roms..
The conventional roms all have recoveries baked into them, so its simple to go into recovery, and flash other stuff
the ICS leaks are different than that, and can be a pain to flash back and forth
My friends with Nexus phones all agree with you on how much easier it is to flash stuff on their phones; I guess its all in what you get used to!
You'll love this phone, that I guarantee you!

Rogue Recovery is the recovery made and used by Team Rogue. Hitman Kernel is a kernel that Team Rogue put out with CWM Touch. That kernel is perfectly fine to use with any GB rom. The big issue is using Rom Manager and flashing a recovery from there, thats a big nono unless you like bricks.
Most kernel threads (i believe all of them actually) state wether they are Gingerbread or Ice Cream Sandwich, either in the title or within the first 3 posts.
Like everyone says, read. True true read and you'll learn but how much he learn if all he reads is "READ NOOB"? I dont know everything but if you have questions feel free to pm me and I'll try to help you as best I can.

This is a community website, you don't have to be a dev to be on here or to mod your phone. How many members actually contribute by developing? 8%? That being said, you really do have to put in the reading/learning time. When you know what you're doing then you can ask specific questions for help that can be answered. Just my 2cents
Im just gonna say even for experienced modders/devs who have been doing this for a while (4+ years for me) this phone is quite confusing at first, i started hacking palm, treo family then pre, then moved to android with an intercrap i mean intercept, then the og evo, and now the et4g and the first day i was in this forum i was scratching my head like a lost kid looking at a chinese subway map. the setup of this phone in particular and the "codenames" are wayyyyyy different than the evo so i was lost for a few hours til i read thru a few ops and familiarized myself with all the new terms, but then again i have years of experince with phone modding and 2 decades experience with linux and windows coding and it was still like my first day of latin class with this phone having had a samsung device previously(intercept) did help with odin and such as it was similar to louziffers hacked swupdater for the intercept but if i was coming strictly from the evo i think id still be lost trying to root this phone

[Q] Best kernel for cm 7

im sure this has been posted a thousand fold, but i wanted to post one for the personalization of it. What would you say its the best overall kernel for cm7.2. im about to have a crack at using tiamat with it since it was my personal fav on my incredible. any suggestions?
I like aeroevans 8bfs kernel. His 8 cfs is good too but idk the difference really. His ics v9 kernel supposedly works with gingerbread but I haven't tried it
The v9 kernel works really well with cm7. I would really recommend using it. Battery life is much improved.

I Dont understand what the problem is. He posted in the correct section, was polite and simply asked for our opinions. Kernels do change, with updates and whatnot while others get left behind. simply searching and grave digging an old thread doesnt really change anything. Just dont want this place to become a thread-prison.
As for the kernels, tiamat hasnt been updated for our phone in ages, a lot of stuff has changed for GB since their last update. JDK kernel is in the same boat. This leaves the various versions of Aero's kernel essentially, i'd go with .8bfs or the v9 ics kernel, which i'm currently using with no problems.

thank you if youre not gonna help then dont post. its people like that thats made alot of great devs leave xda cause of the trollers.
anyways thanks for all the tips ill try em all out. im currently testing out some sense kernels for great battery life any suggestions there?
I fully agree. When you get a new device you are not sure what is old and what are outdated mods and what is the newest thing sometimes. I agree we should search first. But I have had times where I search and google and still no answers. Then when I finally post a question there is usually someone making a refference about another kitty being killed. I came from the Droid X2 which the phone was crap and Motorola sucks A$$ for locking the phones down. However that forum was very friendly and eager to help out noobs. I do understand some of the questions asked are a little crazy and you can tell they did not search. But if you are pissed about someone posting just ignore it and let some other helpful person respond. And if they post in the wrong section the MR Highway will come get them!! He is awesome at that! Keep up the great work Mr Highway. Sorry just my .02 cents. Also as the noobs learn they help out other noobs and hopefully you respected devs can ignore these simple questions. The DX2 was my first phone and I had no idea what I was doing. With the help of the DX2 community I got up to speed and was able to help others. Look at my thanks count. One noob helping another. I asked plenty of questions when I first came on here had some helpful feedback and some smart remarks. Well needless to say I am now comfortable with flashing Roms,Kernel, radio and moving back and forth from AOSP,Sense, and ICS and I found all the fixes and work around ICS by reading the threads and not asking questions here. Just some food for thought.

Again, our phone lacks a large variety of kernels, however the few we have are solid (probably the reason we dont have 2000 of them xD)
The only kernel i've really used for sense is drellisdee's #21 kernel, it comes with all the usual cpu governors and is included in a lot of ext4 sense roms. It works on sense 2.1, 3.0 and 3.5 in my experience as well.
Hopefully that was of some help :s

Yes, he did post this in the right section if it was just kernel and not ROM specific with CM7.2 why just question for AOSP or sense? And I wasn't rude in my response to him as far as him posting a question. I am irritated knowing that we have just recently had a lot of problems in this thread with people just simply asking questions they could've searched for and reposting the same thing 8,000,000 times (su, killall drmserver) ya that is familiar

Thank god our device doesn't have many different ones to look into. Its not like its hard again to search kernel and see what shows up.

Its lack of wanting to put in any time with search and asking the same exact questions over and over that makes DEV's leave.

There were plenty of more posts to quote but I think I proved my point.

Im locking this, before it goes south, an in my eyes, that's what it's looking like.

[Q] 10.1 for Arc S LT18i

Hi.
I can find the Alpha CM10.1 in dev section for PRO. Was wondering if there is a stable 10.1 for the ARC S LT18i or any JB based ROM for that matter?
On that note, would you consider the CM10 and ICS based ROM's to be stable? As in daily driver worthy?
Not asking "which ROM is best" etc... rather just asking if you consider them as stable, in general. I am considering UltimaHD even thought it's ICS based, but really wanted to go up to JB if there is anything stable and worthy out there. I don't really care if it's AOKP, AOSP or Stock based.

Yes, there is, use the Search tool. Then go read the topic and you will find a lot of information about the ROM from people, who have actually used it.

Oh, joy! A snarky reply! How wonderful. But you are right. I should have considered that "search" button in the firs.... Wait a God damn minute! I DID!
As opposed to your usual noob, I actually took the time to search. My research (although I am sure flawed) is what led me to conclude that maybe UltimaHD would be the best choice for me. Also, I found numerous ROMs. Searching for 4.1.2 in titles only returned a bucketload of results for ICS ROMs (yes, that's right... you can even try it if you want). In those I did find mention to 1 MIUI ROM and 1 [rom][update jb][4.1.2]arc/s v06. MIUI is not something I'm interested in using right now. The second, I can't quite figure out if it's a daily driver or not. Also, many of the ROMs seem to be ICS/JB mixes.
The ARC S is not my phone. I have a SIII. I'm trying to compile the necessary info to decide what ROM to flash on the device (which actually belongs to my wife). Not having much time to flash as many ROMs as I do on my SIII, I thought maybe I'd rather ask the people that have actually used and tested available ROMs, rather than flashing one now and having my wife tell me it's no good a few days later and having to do it all over again. So far I have managed to figure out how to unlock bootloader (I hope, because I'll only be doing it tomorrow evening), root the device using flashtool (still not sure if it'll work on stock 4.0.4 but from what I have read so far, I gather it will), and flash a recovery. Am still a bit unclear on all the boot.img flashing that goes on and why it's necessary. Seems to me this has to do with the data partition. Of course I could be wrong.
So again, sorry if I "didn't" use the search button first. I'll try and not have it happen again. Oh, and thanks so much for the help. /end sarcasm
Jeeezzzzz I am so sick and tired of everyone just assuming we don't search before asking questions. Have you ever stopped to consider the reasons behind the questions? No disrespect, dude, I can see you are a senior member and have a really nice post count. I'm sure you have made valuable contributions to this community. But just assuming stuff doesn't really suit you.

To be fair, having read your post I have to wonder why the need to start a new thread, especially when you still have THIS one going.

Again, I didn't quite understand the point of starting a new thread so myself found it annoying to see you asking what you have, "Not asking "which ROM is best" etc", not directly you might not be but essentially, it is what you're asking, and some of us are sick of seeing such threads posted and this sums up why...

I can't agree more. Which ROM is the fastest? Which kernel is best? etc. etc. It's like walking into a bar and asking which drink is the best. You can't get your answer because every person around has a personal taste and looking for something different.
Going further. Telling that one ROM is better than another is quite disrespectful to developers. Most of them spent much time making their work for FREE and one guy can easily depreciate their work.
If you're looking for answer - try. It's easy and making it on your own is much funnier than looking for spoon feeding in every situations. Thinking is fun
Just my 3 grosz.
Thanks!

As this isn't you're Phone, as I said on my other thread, root, remove bloatware and tweak a stock ROM.

Yes, you are right. I still have another thread going. But I didn't want to muddy the waters. I want to keep it separate. The focus of this thread was to understand if there is a working, for daily use, JB ROM out there. For ICS I am already pretty convinced Ultimate is the way to go as far as what I am looking for. Your reply in the other thread was most appreciated and was actually what I had considered, before I got the "go ahead" from the wife. Again, thanks for the tip. But now the circumstances have changed and flashing a ROM is now an option. For this reason I am just trying to figure out if I should opt for aosp 4.1.2, 4.2.1 or CM 10(.1) based on user experience when it comes to stability and broken features or bugs. I do not need anyone to tell me which ROM is best. I have already been told to avoid "which ROM is best" threads and I intend to do as told. But honest to God that's not what I want here. Just opinions regarding aosp 4.1.2, 4.2.1 or CM 10(.1). In general. Don't need anyone saying X rom is better or whatnot. And I am terribly sorry if this is how it came across. As for trying ROM's, I'm all for it. I have Obsessive Rom Disorder myself and am a total flashaholic. I flash ROMs to my phones like every other day at the latest. But as you pointed out my other thread, you can see that flashing dozens of roms to the ARC is not an option. I am trying to find what is or isn't stable so I can decide on the path to go, and then choose a ROM based on that. Imagine I flash 4.1.2 only to find it FC's a lot using camera app or whatever. Or that wifi is unstable and she really relies on wifi daily for work. Or anything else. I check the ROM threads for known bugs, but many a rom here on XPERIA ARC sub-forums don't list bugs, either because they have non, or because OP's don't post them. I tend to think it's probably the former and not the latter, but since I am quite used to seeing some sort of buglist, I am not sure and so, of course, hesitant.
Please, please don't think I mean to be disrespectful. Or rude. Or just plain annoying. It's just that I really can't afford to get this wrong. I need to get this right first time round (or at least within the first couple of tries) so my wife can continue to work with the phone and not come to me saying "this and that don't work".
I appreciate the community. I have learned a whole lot from you guys. I support devs when I can through donations (small for sure, but I tend to donate what I can afford from time to time). And I answer whenever I think I can help and contribute. It's just I get so annoyed when I see people just assuming I didn't search.
Sorry for the rant.

I understand your need to get it right but you'd had some good responses in the other thread which you could of followed up, and unfortunately it obviously has come across as annoying, but we're a forgiving community. The best thing to do when trying to decide is to read through the last few pages of a ROM thread and see what's being reported, just because a ROM might work right to begin with, unknown conflicts might start to arise when the Phones been used for a prolonged period of time, an update to a certain app breaks something etc, and while for many it may not be an issue because they'll just come and get a fix or wait for an update to something that might not bother them but bothers the next user, I wouldn't go the custom ROM route, but she's your Wife at the end of the day so it's not my balls on the line.

I hear you. And I have succesfuly managed to root the phone. Am now in the process of doing a Titanium Backup of the device and a NANDROID too. I don't really want to flash custom. I'd rather tweak as you suggested, but to be honest, I have no idea where to begin with this device.
