I've been throttled a lot and really dodn't feel like I do all of that much. Here's the scoop.
The start date for my plan is the 25th of each month. I'm on the 5GB unlimited plan. I use my Nexus One to tether and have been for several months. You can get away with it on native android.
Today i decided to check my data usage. In 4 days in which I have done some surfing, but mostly on wifi, (I had not been tethering at all during this period) I've use 856MB of data! I haven't downloaded more than a handful of apps and most of what I do is go to message boards.
So today I went online to check it out. Last night I used84mb at 3:21AM while asleep and my phone was on wifi!
Something fishy is going on!
What think you all? Have I been hacked?
Are you leaving a wifi hotspot app on?
What email are you using? Gmail or something else? When my wife was using Yahoo it was eating the data like crazy.
Download traffic monitor from the market an see what is using data and how much.

I use gmail. I also have yahoo, but didn't put it on my phone til today. Ill try traffic monitor, bit that still doesn't explain massive MB of data usage at one time. Especially when I'm on wifi.

Yeah. There's definitely something going on. Now my usage has dropped to almost nothing. T-Mobile may be playing tricks on me, trying to get me to upgrade my data or something.
When I update i generally do it on wifi, and I have very few games, all of which are of the small variety...you know, angrybirds and Pew Pew. I do have Sim City, but again I try to update on wifi and have NOTHING set to automatic update.

So, for the past week or two weeks my G2's Internet/data speed has gon' tremondously slow.
I'm talking about,I feel like I got a metro phone unless I have wi-fi.
My G2 has always bin running excellent ,until now its bin acting like its on edge.
I've switched my Radio,ROM and Kernels and still the problem seems to exist.
I've tried so manytimes and my market downloads take up to 30 minutes to download and my youtube loads so slow....I don't watch it anymore unless I'm at home on wi-fi.
Has any one bin experiancing this? Anybody can tell me how to fix this problem? Much appriciated.
Oh and, the 4G/H icon still shows..
Thanks.

There isn't really that much you can do. I know there is a thread somewhere in development that will show you how stop being throttled but not sure if it would work if they already started doing it. Luckily for me I get that message every month but my speeds stay exactly the same.

The fact that your on wifi is exactly why you don't even come close to using that much data. I also got a text from them and I'm still getting fast speeds. I average about 5mbps. I've also hit 15+mbps three times. I've tried posting pics but have been unsuccessful. I'm using shootme but every time I try to upload I get a "wrong extension" message. Not sure why it's happening now,but I was able to upload fine before.

What gets me is how you clearly have an unlimited plan, but will be throttled. I understand you still technically have internet after being throttled, but that is damn ridiculous.
Hey guys, I just switched to Verizon, got a Nexus, and rooted it. I was wondering just how easy is it to get caught by Verizon if I use the wireless tether apk? I'd appreciate it if someone posted their experiences with it. Thanks!

I use it all the time and have never got an email in the past 2 years, and I use at least 5-10GB a month.
this is the first time i use it constantly . because of the 4G speeds. i havent got a email or a text from them.
before i had it with my incredible but hardly use it, because of the slow 3G speeds.
Alright thanks! This is actually my first experience with android on a phone (other one was CM7 on my Nook Color) and I had just always read that you get lots of sudden charges so its good to have peace of mind.
Sorry for the bump, I've got one more question. Wireless tether seems to give me a much higher data usage reading than the settings app in ICS. After using it a bit it said I used 500kb while the settings app reported that I used 1 KB. Is there a reason for this?

If you're really stupid about how much you use it, they will catch on but if you're smart about it you can get away with it a lot.

Wifi Tether will not work with 4.03. I consistantly get errors in the startup log. Even worse, when on wifi at home im fine and my signal icons are blue meaning im connected to google servers. But if i disconnect off wifi and use my cellular 3G connection my signal icons stay grey and will not turn blue.
I had to flash back to 4.02 and instantly got blue icons on 3G and now my Wifi Tether works.

What????? Also YOU probably should look up sprint's policy on servicing devices experiencing hardware failure as opposed to posting nonsense in the wrong forum about a topic that can be better answered by looking at 1. Sprints website 2. Sprint online chat 3. Sprint telephone support (*2 from your sprint device!) or 4. By any employee at a sprint store... just saying... should all of those options fail there's this new thing they tell me the kids are calling "the google's", that may also help...

Why do you guys have to be such snooty little bags of DICKS? Just answer his damn question. Or nevermind, I will....
Sprint is now packing in an app called Sprint Connection Optimizer on many of the latest OTA updates. This will make it check for the best connection to use in this order: (Wi-Max Market) Wi-Fi, 4G, 3G; (Non-WiMax market): Wi-Fi, 3G. This is an effort to free up capacity on the data network for people who are just stuck on 3G cruise control when they don't realize better connections are available around them, such as WiFi or WiMax. Our 3G network is starting to vomit all over itself, so while we wait for the long-term solution (Network Vision) to roll out, they are using the Sprint Connections Optimizer as a short-term band-aid solution.

Dude read posts.
Turn off any notifications like Tapatalk, Facebook, etc...
Google settings like location services.
Learn hpw to manage apps and close them out properly. Every once in a while I'll go through TouchWiz Manager and end all apps even though I know some of the apps I haven't even opened or they might just still been opened up.
Like I said your maps app is taking location which kills your battery faster.
Your email app is probably on auto sync which means it's constantly syncing itself constantly on a connection that is constantly getting information back and forth hence killing your battery.
Beautiful widgets if that is also on auto sync which means it's taking your connection again and constantly syncing for info and data.

Not at all. Its not too much of a big deal I mean I just still go into my email app and just hit refresh just to see if there's anything new and is much better for battery life than having to be on auto sync because Its not constantly having to sync every second.

Plain and Simple. How Many apps do you have installed on your Phone, Not Including System Apps
Also If you Don't Mind Listing them.
One hundred something. I don't know the exact number off the top of my head. That's what I love about the S4...so much memory that you don't have to worry about running out of space unless you install a lot of games (which I don't). Apps2SD solves that problem, too.

I guess i keep some just to see if theres updates which will make them useful; such as google keep which is begging to be integrated with google now.
But i just found an app to help with that task
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.cypressworks.changelogviewer
It lets you add apps to observe for updates without having to install them. Currently i only use it to get an overview of changes to my all my installed apps since the play store sucks for that. This app shows changelogs all on one screen. It's really well made
My name is scoob and I'm a recovering appaholic... I used to download just about any app for any task i could find. I had apps on my phone that i never once used. I have 1562 user apps backed up with Titanium Backup though. I restore apps as I need them, so depends on how long since i've flashed a new rom.
What's the point of having a phone with a ton of free space? It's just wasted potential to me.
Usually around 50-60.
