[TOOL] - [UPDATED 12/2/2012] - Xbox Live Data Backup v0.02! - Windows Phone 7 Development and Hacking

This app will allow you to backup some of your xbox live game data to your pc. Currently it only saves 3 xbox games, it can backup and recover. It uses ISETOOL.exe which comes with the microsoft windows phone sdk. I need more Product GUIDS and names of games if you want more added. This only backups up your high scores and saved progress in games.
Current Games Supported:
Angry Birds
Plants Vs. Zombies
Need for Speed: Undercover
Zune must be running and phone cant be pin locked.
THis is running on a HTC HD7 running a custom rom, intrinsic 5.02. Im not sure if this will work on a stock phone or not.
Running backup over an existing saved game will overwrite it wit and update. Enjoy and let me know if you guys want more games, or how it workS!

The basic idea is valid, but stock ROMs can't use it. The Mango version of TouchXperience (which is what WPDM uses to browse your phone) is low-privilege and can only see a limited part of the filesystem.

It does work. but yes, it'll only work on custom roms and with wpdm, because you need it to save the files to your PC and then restore them after the rom flash.
Sent from my HD7 using XDA Windows Phone 7 App

Hi,
you should add "only for custom roms" to the title

it did not work with me ..
My phone is chevron unlocked

Even possible for not custom roms...
Hi Community,
I yesterday mentioned to open a thread today, desribing
how to backup your savegames, but you where a bit earlyier .
But I found out, how it works with every interop-unlocked
device (samsung and htc) and even with non custom-roms. You have
to download Windows phone Power Tools
http://wptools.codeplex.com/
which allows you to read and write apps isolated storage
(but only from sideloaded homebrew apps) and
wp root tools 0.8 by [email protected] Also you have to download or
sideload and homebrew app, for exapmple MPA Tool, (which is also an useful app ).
I you dont want this, you can choose any other homebrew application
on your phone and find out its installation path.
Now, if you have wp power tools and wp root tools "by heathcliff"
there are two steps to go:
1. (wp root tools)
you have to navigate to the path of the game (f.e. angry birds)
Applications/Data/E4571A02-0B87.../Data/Isolated Storage
and copy the two files (for other games it can be more than two)
in the isolated storage of your choosen homebrew app (e.g. MPA TOOL).
Applications/Data/7AC990A5-7092....../angry birds
(I created folders in this path to hold it clear...)
http://imageshack.us/photo/my-images/191/screencapture11a.jpg/
2. windows phone power tools
When this is done connect your phone with zune and run wp power
tools. Under "file browser" you can open the isolated storage of MPA
Tool (or any other homebrew app) and copy the files from the
games to your computer.

After flasing a new ROM just revert the hole progress...

PS: I attached a list with the installation paths of many applications,
so its easier for you to find the path...

@Malte1234511: That's only going to work for Samsung gen1 phones. Non-Samsung or even Samsung gen2 phones can't use WP7 Root Tools.
TouchXplorer used to work, but now it onlyworks for very old firmware or custom ROM (after an HTC update disabled it).

I just have a 1.Gen Samsung Device and didnt know that wp root tools doesnt work with htc anymore. But here is a solution to backup savegames for Samsung 1.Gen device owner and owners of htc phones with custom roms or old firmware. It may help some users...

We want to backup the data from our original Xbox live games. The tool is useful (thanks to winphoneviet) for for some applications, but not for games from the marketplace.

wpdm and touchexpierence work fine on my HTC hd7 with the custom rom. With touchexpierences file browser I can search through all the apps and games dir just fine. And wpdm can copy the game files from my PC and back to my phone just fine too.

wpv backup does your whole phone. This way only backs up the game data, but you need to be on a custom rom.

File expolrer from wince 7 ? .

could it be possible to install a file explorer from wince7 ?
I did a search for a file explorer but I didn't find it .
maybe it is possible to mail the app to your phone and then install it .
there's no sideloading of apps, unless it's in marketplace, which is impossible cos ms won't approve of it in the first place
unless u have a developer phone................
LOL , ok that was stupid of me , Microsoft isn't that stupid
I wouldn't even know if you would find a coherent file system. It could be that the file allocation table is completely new and unique to WP7

If that's true, all we need is some kind of jailbreak.

My only concern as a developer is: If I jailbreak it, will Microsoft take away my developer priveleges (e.g. side loading)

It's not like they're going to lock developers out forever because they're "hailbreaking" it. In worst case you can probably undo the jailbreak and go on as usual.
Can someone tell me the difference between a developers phone (side-loading) and a normal one ?
side-loading , is that only a .reg key that is different from a normal phone ?
I think jailbreaking it will be the way to go as I don't see M$ allowing people to access the file system either on the phone or via the computer.

Side loading will allow developers to install apps that don't come from the app store (for testing purposes)
Not sure how it will work yet, but it will probably require you to have the source which means it probably wont be suitable for pirating
If MS does allow file system access it would probably be similar to the way Apple allowed on the iPod. I'm not sure if you can stilll do this, but before my 30GB classic broke down on me I was able to use it like a thumb drive by selecting a option in iTunes. You could access the file system thru Windows folders, but you couldn't see system files. Then developers could create an app, SNES emulator for example, and create a folder where to add roms.

As long as 3rd party apps will have access to this space as well, then I'd consider that most of the problems I have with the platform resolved.

Backup / Restore

Did anybody try to backup / restore his phone like the zune updater does?
This functionnality is very good but limited to software update for now.
I would love to be able to backup my phone like Zune does.
Just FYI, I've did some tests and it backup all apps (including homebrews), and all registry modifications.
how did you backup it ?
did you use zune for it ?
and do you know how to rebuild the 4mb files to 1 big one and did you manage to extract it ?

Yeah, I've done the update backup through Zune.
You may want to start with opening "C:\Program Files\Zune\ZuneDBApi.dll" in .NET Reflector and then open the class MicrosoftZuneLibrary.ZuneLibrary. But prepare for a lot of unsafe C# code.
Good luck!

Also with regards to actually using the DLL: it can be done but for just about 100% of calls your exe has to be in the *same Zune directory* as the Zune dlls. This is a huge huge problem for an anal developer like myself that doesn't want to muck up their structure with a random file. It's likely and largely due to the almost 10mb native DLL they use (ZuneNativeLib.dll, the Holy Grail of all Zune work).
This may all just be related to the specific work I was doing which was just to access the music library but a *lot* of the Zune software uses these gates. It makes me wonder how TouchXperience does their backups. You don't need your entire code base to live with the Zune, just a 'proxy' exe/dll of sorts but it is a particular pain point I'll never like but I suppose I understand why MS locked it down.

Noob frendly MANGO update

decided to make a tut on how to update to mango for the first timers out there that have no clue on how to do it! YOURE WELCOME!
this is a straight forward step by step tut
i take no responsibilities if u brick and take no credit for it
all credit do to all that make this happened
also do research before you do anything, i always do it before any upgrade or mod to any device being cellphone or any kind of electronics THE SEARCH BUTTON IS JUST LIKE GOOGLE IT WILL BE YOURE BEST FRIEND, and after a lot of searching then post youre questions so the comunity can help!
the back up is created at
C:\Users\YOURE USER NAME\AppData\Local\Microsoft\Windows Phone Update
and it will be a folder with a large sequence of alfa numeric name
i advice to copy this to other location because when you upgrade or downgrade the zune software it delets this file
also in this tread is more indeepth on wp7 backup
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1103011
if you cant see appdata folder try this:
1) Open Windows Explorer (Start\All Programs\ Accessories)
2) In Windows Explorer go to Computer\"driveletter"\users\"username"
3) With "username" highlighted, click "Organize" (top left of Windows Explorer window) and then select "Folder and Search Options"
4) Check the "Show All Folders" box in the General tab
5) Go to the "View" tab
6) Click the "Show hidden files, folders, and drives" radio button
if you already updated or downgraded zune software sorry but you will have to reflash youre wp7 with a stock or unbranded rom and start over, i did cause i wanted to have mango unlocked to load sideapps
to restore last state you have to download windows 7 backup tool 1.6 or 1.5,
1.5 was the only one that worked for me
to do the backup just open app click restore and make sure youre backup file is in
C:\Users\YOURE USER NAME\AppData\Local\Microsoft\Windows Phone Update directory
you must have zune software prior version 4.8 for this to work with provision.exe so it will do a full backup, if you use zune 4.8 it wont do a full backup. YOU BEEN WARNED
1.download and unpack the files www.mediafire.com/?5zclb0ou8zdll
2.install file WPSupportTool-x86.msi for 32 bit or WPSupportTool-amd64.msi for 64 bit
3.run Provision.exe, it will make backup of youre phone and it will run all files to prepare youre phone for mango update
4.when it finishes close provision app and run StartZuneLocal.exe to install zune 4.8, after it finishes connect phone and follow instructions and all done welcome to MANGO!
if theres an error please post it so i can edit the post for future members
saludos a todos desde puerto rico!
Awesome! Giving this a try (fingers crossed).
Is there a difference between part 1 and part 2? I'm going with 1 first to see if there is any difference.
Success! Worked just as you said...good work!
good to know that all went good
Worked perfectly, everything so far seems to be working. Only thing I've found not to work is to do with my marketplace Orange selects. Have to search for my free apps this month. Also the HTC apps in marketplace throws up the same error. But good work made the process so much easier.
does this work for any windows phone?
I have a Dell Venue Pro

Im pretty sure you have to download both and then unzip one of them because the files are split into two zip folders
Worked perfectly on my HTC Mozart, and you do need to unzip both files, which should be done automatically if using WinZip.
Worked for me on a Samsung Focus.
I reistalled zune 4.7, I was at 4.8. Now it is not seeing my phone. any ideas
i've read that zune 4.7 doesn't work with mango, it has to be 4.8.
On-topic:
i've updated to mango with these files and its working like a charm, it feels my trophy is somehow more complete, it works faster, smoother, and it's all the little things that are so cool.
For example the people tile, with nodo it just displayed 9 pictures at the most in the tile, so they were all small pictures, now with mango it sometimes chooses random pics and makes them bigger so the pictures has the size of 4 small pictures.
the way the letters slide away in the people app and in the apps menu.
the icons in text messages, the somewhat different color of send and received messages.
these are the cosmetic changes i've noticed so far, but they are all pretty neat
Neat indeed!
Ie9 let's you see recent history (don't think it was there before Mango)
My phone now let me see Facebook events while on the locked screen (don't think it was there before either)
Is there still no way to upgrade to mango with windows xp?
I had to drop back down to 4.7 for the provision to backup and install the files it needed. I followed the directions from there and it work like a charm. Do they all say not for resale when you boot up?? I also wanted to know if its to buggy can I drop back to the nodo. Now I have to play with the custom ringtones. Thanks for making it so easy.
hey guys, I run the provision file and it worked fine but after it backed up my files it gave me the error code 80181103 and it says "The update folder can't be renamed"
I'm using samsung focus 7.0.7390.0
the only problem im having on my HD7 is that is dropping calls like flies and the problem is the proximity sensor just like the iphone 4 when it came out, have to research and see if anyone esle is having this problem, but everiting else is great!
after eating this sweet mango i dont want nodo anymore
also loving the virtual voicemail
Hey thank you for your guide!
I Want to update my unlocked optimus 7. Dies this method prevent my phone from relocking? And if i Want to get back to Bodo i only habe to restore with my Bodo Backup right?
Best regards
Desmo
So i can try this for on my Omnia 7?
Is there a way to unlock it now after I did the mango update. I would like to put ringtones but I can't seem to install touchexplorer.I really like the mango so far.Is there a way I can get it unlocked with tmobile??
Going to give this a bash over the weekend

Installing and running games with cache (5.0 no rooted)

Hey warriors!
Pls help - after installing apk and storing obb files into sd card/android/obb folder I cannot run any HD game with my G3. The application will not find the files.
My procedure:
- download apk + cache
- install apk
- place obb files into obb folder (usually the files are already in a correctly named folder, e.g. "com.pixelbite.rr3" (for recklessracing3), so I just extract and copy them from my PC over to SD card)
- run apk - it will then give me an error message, or just look for the files for eternity, or simply just crashes
I have tried couple of games - NOVA3, MC5, RecklessRacing with no luck
- is it because I am not rooted?
- is it necessary to change something in phone settings prior to installing?
- or simply what I am doing wrong?
Many thanks for your help!

Most of the time, that stuff is stored in the /data partition which you cannot access to write to without root. The only "people" that can access and write to that area are the app itself that wrote to it initially, and an account with root access.
Some games might store some "cache" to the internal sd card, but that all depends on the app.
This is why using the cloud is so much better for game advancement, but not all games are using that.

I think I got your point but what would be the safest way to install games without issues? Will rooting the device solve the problem, or is there still some work to do most of the time with every game?
And if root is OK, is there any one-click root available for G3 which is safe? I am very good at bricking the phones

The only other way to make this work, and you would have had to backed everything up before, is to use Helium which (without root) requires you to have a Windows or Mac client app installed on your PC and you hook up you device that way. It can then backup the data and restore it, without root. However, it only works with certain apps. Not all apps can be backed up with Helium.
As for rooting, it depends on which model of G3 you have. Overall, rooting is easy, but it depends on which version of the Android OS it's running and again, which model of G3 you are using. I don't want to go into it with this thread as it can all be discovered by going to the following FAQ thread in the OP and finding the section for rooting. There it explains which root method works on which model of phone and what version of the OS you must be on. Again, this all depends on the model of the phone you have. Here is the link to the FAQ post:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/lg-g3/help/help-thread-lg-g3-question-t2947298
After that, you can use a lot of different apps to backup and restore your app and data. TiBu is the most popular one.

[Help] Installing "Metro" Apps on Windows RT 8.1

Hi, so I have a Surface RT, I was able, after a lot of effort to jailbreak it and enter Test Mode so any desktops apps that are meant for arm are working fine.
The problem is that now my Windows Store went bananas, I tried fixing it with some tutorials I found online, but nothing I can't revive it. Only option I would have would mean I recover the full tablet, install all updates only to later have to uninstall half of them and go trough the pain of installing the jailbreak again. Winch seems alot to get a app to work.
So I tried appx files, I tried installing using the powershell command as seen on some tutorial, winch gives me a bunch of errors, most of them are for libraries that are missing winch I do understand some of them just won't work for rt, others because the "app model" is set to 0 where it should be 1, I tried changing it to 1 but another error pops up saying the recourses.pri is missing or faulty or something on those terms. Tried with other apps but all just eventually ended in the same resources.pri error. Or that the os version it was requesting was higher. Since the appx were from nifty online sources I figured they would not be that compatible.
Later I tried Windows Apps Boss, this time i went to the official windows store (using IE) and downloaded the offficial files for the apps that I knew where compatible with ARM and this device. Anyone wondering I used this https://store.rg-adguard.net/ you just need to copy the URL from the windows store and it gives you the files.
First I tried downloading only the appx files and ran them on windows app boss, install, enable sideload, add package, the same recource.pri error appear, I tought maybe I need all the other files that were on the page meant for arm so I tried adding them as dependencies in windows app boss, added libraries to dependencies, and the other file that was a .blockmap I added to provisioned custom data, still nothing but closer, this time it only told the that the appxmanifest.xml was not on the package root whatever that mean, although I went to the windowsapps folder and the folder for the game in question and the file were there, but I noticed it was in the same path but in a different folder, with this I mean that I add 2 separate programs folders with 2 separate windowsapps folders, ok maybe windows apps boss created this one I thought, so I just moved them to the official folder and tried again, still nothing. Can it be because the original windowsapps folder is hidden? (just thought of this)
At this point I just want to flinch this thing at a wall or into a volcano, because every problem I fix just leads to another one, but since I got it for 50 bucks (I knew what I was getting into), and since now use it as my main pc since I don't have anything else or will have in a later future (its not that bad I just use mainly to watch movies, series now that I have the torrents desktop app, its relatively fast and works really well for basic stuff apart from the fact that Microsoft completely ruin the devices potential),I would like to at least be able to install metro apps or in this case games.
Can please someone help me out in figuring this, or guiding me another way to install them since every information in the internet is scattered and not always compatible with this device?
