Update 4.0.2.A.0.62 ? - Xperia Play Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hello there my first post here on XDA
Just wanna talk about the update 4.0.2.A.0.62 on the Xperia Play. I downloaded the flashtool and do I flash the phone in flashmode or flashboot mode ?
And do I tick ' clear cache ' as well ?
Thanks !

Flash mode (hold search button while plugging in, power button lights up green). Cache shouldn't need to be wiped, but it couldn't hurt.

Thanks for that just finished with the update. But my Xperia Play froze and rebooted as well !
What's the problem with my Xperia Play even with the update 4.0.2.A.0.62 ?
I thought this update would fix the freezing and reboot issues.
I even had freezing and reboot issues with the previous version as well.

Hello again.
I am so frustrated with this phone ! I have the r800i and I was playing Dead space and was playing for only about 2 mins and then the phone froze and rebooted.
This happens all the time whenever i'm playing a game or it'll just freeze randomly when scrolling through the menu.
I have sent it to the Sony Ericsson Service Centre and i've sent it 2 times to them for repair.
The freezing and rebooting still happens.
I have updated to the latest firmware 4.0.2.A.0.62 and was hoping that this update would fix my phone. Luckily it hasn't
Please someone help me it makes me so mad and sad at the same time
What can I do.....?????

Take it back to the shop and ask for a replacement as it sounds like a hardware issue.

Have you tried a different SD card?

Hi there.
Yes I have tried a class 10 SD card and still it's the same issue. It freezes and reboots.

i dont have the issue you are having, and they sound pretty bad; you should try to use the flashtool, reflash 4.0.2.A.0.62, wipe everything, dont restore any of your old apps, then just download 1 game and try, see if that cause a problem. also you can try a lower class card see if that resolves your issue. if none of that works, i would suggest get a replacement unit if thats still possible

Yeah it is bad cause the new update is not working on it as well.
I've sent my phone 3 times to the Sony Ericsson Service centre and they still haven't been able to fix it.
I just hope they give me a replacement.

I dont think so

It will be a H/W issue, demand a replacement or a new mobo atleast.

Yeah it has to be a H/W issue cause what happens is that they fix the phone it turns on and everything but it's when I start using the phone like gaming running app and stuff like that's when it freezes and doesn't turn on.

It looks like to me that something inside my Xperia Play is causing it to freeze. Obviously a Hardware Issue.
When I open a app or play a game it freezes after about a minute so it looks like something inside might be causing the problem but the Service centre haven't replaced anything inside my Xperia play.
I was wondering if I could tell the Service Centre to open up the xperia play and see what's causing the phone to freeze?
Which part would it be ?
The thing is i've had to send it in 3 times now and they still haven't been able to fix my Xperia Play.
Freezes and reboots and sometimes doesn't turn on and that's only when I play games on it for more than a minute or so.
I've updated to the latest update 4.0.2.A.0.62.
Thanks !

So does anyone know what I can do ?
Am I the only the one on this forum that has a faulty Xperia Play?
I bought mine online from 02 about 2 months ago when it was £150 in white and that was the 16GB version.

I just got mine from Dial-A-Phone and seem to have a rebooting problem when plugging in the mains charger. The phone is only 3 weeks into the contract!!!! I will certainly be calling Dial-a-phone to get this sorted.

I have even used a class 10 SD card and still have the same problems.
Which brand do you use?
Do you think a class 4 will sort the problems out ?

Amittedly I have not updated to 4.0.2.A.0.62, so will try that first and report back. I have tried playing a few games and all seems ok. For me it is just when I plug mine in to the mains that it reboots and only sometimes at that. Very strange indeed.

Oh right.
I just can't believe this is happening.
What were Sony Ericsson thinking when they were making the Xperia devices ?
And I say Xperia cause this is a intermittent problem on all the Xperia models.
Well most of them anyway.

The story of me and my HTC Desire

After some negotiating with my girlfriend I decided I’d buy an Android phone, an HTC Desire from PDAShop.be, where I’ve bought my previous HTC Touch 3G.
As always, the delivery of the phone was quick and soon I unpacked the phone and started playing around with it. I improrted contacts from SIM to phone and linked them to Facebook and Twitter contacts. Piece of pie. I also installed some apps and games from the Android Market (no paid apps here in Belgium, yet) and fiddled around with them, as I also did with various settings in the HTC Sense UI.
After a few hours playing with the phone, I went outside with the phone in my back pocket of my jeans, and I heard the HTC startup again. I thought that somehow I managed to press the power button by accident. Nope, the phone restarted several times on different occasions.
When I went to sleep, the phone was on and the battery was almost charged to 60%. The next morning, 8 hours later, the device was turned off and when I charged it via USB on the PC, the battery was fully drained… 0%!
I then called HTC support, and the kind person on the other end of the line listened to my story and told me I needed a hard-reset of the device. From the mail he sent me:
With the phone turned off, press and hold the VOLUME DOWN button, and then briefly press the POWER button. 2. Wait for the screen with the 3 Android images to appear, and then release the VOLUME DOWN button. 3. Press VOLUME DOWN to select CLEAR STORAGE, and then press POWER. 4. When asked to confirm, press VOLUME UP
Click to collapse
I tried that, but the phone just wouldn’t complete the hard-reset. So I called PDAShop and they told me that I could bring the phone in. I removed my SIM from Mobile Vikings and put it in my other phone and drove to them.
To my amazement the guy at the shop managed to hard-reset (without a SIM) the device, and stress-tested it with some rapid movements, changing styles in the UI, setting up a Live-wallpaper. The device didn’t freeze… So I drove back to home.
I put my SIM back in, and voila… the device started to hang on me again. I even tried the hard-reset with the SIM with no luck whatsoever. I contacted PDAShop again and the same person helped me further. He said I can send the phone back to them and they will replace it with a new one…
I really hope this isn’t becoming some part of long tragedy waiting to happen. I really want to enjoy this Android phone, as I am fed up with the current status of Windows Mobile on my brilliant HTC Touch 3G.
Hey
Sorry to heard your story, you must be very unlucky :/ . If it's of any comfort, my desire has a mobile vikings sim in it aswell and functions excellent, so it's probably a faulty model.
Sorry for you, it's probably a faulty device or a faulty ROM, either way, my phone and the ones of multiple other person works fine so keep hope!
I would advise you to recontact Coolbleu (aka pdashop) and tell them that you went there they did reset it and tested it but that it didn't fix the problem. I would be surprised if they wouldn't offer to give u a new one. (I bought several phones at coolbleu and I've always been happy with after sale support) BTW I'm also using Mobile Vikings (but on HTC Legend) and I don't have any problems with it at all.
@JonasDroid & @Cooki3s:
Good to know that, because the person at coolblue received some disturbing calls from people with MobileVikings SIM cards. How old are your SIM cards?
@All Thanks for the support, I really hope my next Desire will be somthing that I can actually enjoy
Will keep you posted.
Cheers!
I tried a hard reset again, but without a SIM and SD card inserted. This seemed to work.
I then did go through all the settings in the wizard and rebooted. Then I shut it down, inserted to SD again and I went into Settings > SD and Storage, unmounted the card, formatted it, and rebooted the phone. I stress-tested it for a while, and then I shut it down, inserted my SIM and it still works.
Could it be that some corrupt data on the card caused the instant reboots and faulty hard-resets?
I'm going to charge my phone and test it throughout the day to see if it still hangs/reboots on its own. Fingers crossed!
EDIT:
I spoke too soon... a few minutes later and the device was shut down when I tried to bring the screen back up. Now it reboots until it hangs itself... I don't hear the startup-sound either when it come to "Quitely Brilliant"
The phone will be sent back to pdashop!
Edit2:
I narrowed the problem down to a device-specific issue... It shuts down/freezes/reboots randomly even when no SIM and no SD card are in the device... I really hope the next device I'll receive doesn't have these issues
Have you got any apps installed on it? If so what? I had issues with some apps that changed the APN when the internet wasnt being used.

Is there any way to retrieve our photos. The screen is completely destroyed. The led flashes and I believe the motherboard is good. PC recognizes a device but I can't mount due to no screen. Any ideas?

Try reinstalling the drivers on the computer. It might recognize in a way that you can get in. What version are you on and do you have custom recovery? May be able to mount that way.
Got an MHL Cable?
The screen on my Evo 3D died. Just went completely black 1 day. So I went to the store and they ordered me a new 1, said it would take 3 days.
Now I was stuck with this phone I couldn't use.
So I plugged my phone in my TV via MHL cable and BAM.
Was able to transfer everything and even make phone calls and send texts. (Voice to text)
Hope this helps.

(If you are on a custom ROM, choose the RESET restore option . If you're on EL29, you can do either the RESET or Preserve DATA, it doesn't matter on EL29)
Any option you choose, your pictures will not be deleted on the phone or SD card, messages and other data will
I would update or restore to FE16, ICS automatically sets MTP on, therefore the computer automatically finds the phone without switching settings.
Once you do this, you can retrieve your Pictures on the phone and SD card.

Putting the phone in odin mode is easy.
1. Set the restore or update file on your computer first with odin all-in-one.
2. Get your phone ready(take battery out and reinstall it)
3. Press and hold the volume down and power buttons for 4 seconds(I just tried it)
4. Wait 3 seconds, then press the volume up button.
5. Now with Odin set, plug your phone in to your computer and wait till you a (COM and a number to turn yellow in ODIN), then press start.
6. Wait till ODIN is done, unplug your phone, let the phone sit for about 10 minutes (let it start up and install every update it's going to)
7. Plug your phone into the computer and it will recognize it without having to touch the screen.
8. You'll get 2 options, Card and Phone
9. Choose either one, Click on DCIM on either one, choose camera and your pictures will be there for you to retrieve.
This is a screen shot of how ODIN will look like when it's opened

1.Remove battery while device is on 2.Leave battery out for 1-2 minutes. (I usually do 2 minutes to be sure)
3.Place the battery back into the phone.
4.Push in the Power button to turn on
5.Let device power on without holding any buttons as normal Once the device is on the home screen, you should no longer see Safe mode. Hope this helps, good luck.

I have the same problem, I got stuck in safe mode after replacing my cracked screen.
I did exactly what is suggested by 'kenxda33' above

1) Factory Reset from the settings menu.
2) Wipe Partition and Reset through recovery mode,
3) Upgraded the phone to Android 4.2.2 using Odin
4) Dissembled the phone and removed the volume buttons and switched it on.

Hi,
Did you find any solution for this problem...
Coz i am facind the same problem...
There is nothing we can do about it?
I'm having the same problem here and i've tried everything.
I've tried kenxda33 solution and it worked... until i rebooted my phone.
I've tried wipe all, reinstall my rom, install other rom (like CM 11).
Isn't there any softmod solution for this? Like, disable safe mode for real?
Can anyone post a screenshot?
And possibly the only solution in SC. But you could try flashing with a stock untouched ROM.

And coming tohe fact, i understand you are well aware of the device and android, so am not going to explanations. So to disable safe mode, usually, keeping the battery away for a minute or two will do the job. But i guess this is not the case you have.
Just Try, Turn the phone off.Turn it back on and hold the “up” volume button.if this dont work, try holding volume up and down simultaneously whilte switching on. This is used to enable safe mode.
If u are on JB when phone is on, press the power key and hold the Power Off button on the screen for a few seconds, and see something is happening.
Unfortunately, after switching to safe-mode, a restart should disable the safe mode.

A hardware problem may not cause phone to boot in to safe mode i think. If possible.. Carry it to a service centre.
May be, it's happening because of a kind of short-circuit. Once, I also faced almost the same kind of issue. In my case, almost 2 years ago, my old smartphone (GT-S6802) was again and again going into Download Mode whenever I tried to power on the smartphone. Then I took it to the SC. And they discovered that the reason behind it was an electrical short-circuit. They worked on it, and my problem was resolved. Therefore, I'd like to suggest whoever facing such issues, to take their smartphone to the SC and your problem will surely be resolved.
Solution found at last
Solution is here
So don't worry guys anymore
It's not a big deal as some of you guys say
I had my touch replaced n had the same trouble
I simply switched it off n interchange both sims with each other (means put sim 1 into the slot of sim 2 n vice versa.)
It became OK
U can also try removing Sim 1 n letting the slot empty n using only sim2 in its slot

I JUST got out of safe mode after looking and searching for several weeks. I went to TMobile Manage My Account and did backwards how they showed turning ON safe mode....1. turn off your phone. 2. turn your phone on THEN when the phone logo appears, immediately let go of power button and then hold down VOLUME UP button till screen comes on. Sheesh, I'm glad to be done with this!

LG G4 Completely Crazy

Hello guys.
Today I woke up to some strange events happening to my phone.
I left my phone turned on while I slept, as usual. When I woke up, I noticed that the phone auto brightness wasn't working at all. It was stuck at the minimum brightness and it wouldn't change even if I pointed the phone at the sun. Rebooting the device did not fix the issue.
After a while I decided to pass some music from the computer to the phone with the cable. The cable kept disconnecting the phone, like it had a bad contact. I had a really hard time to put my music on the phone (lot's of phone and PC reboots).
Then, when I finally put the music in it, I plugged the headphones and tried to listen to music, only to be presented with lots of white noise mixed with the music. The white noise "changed" if I moved the cable thingy. Again, reboot didn't fix the problem. I plugged the headphones in my computer and they worked just fine.
I left the phone alone and went on my business. Some time passed and I noticed that the LED light had a permanent green light that would just not go away. I managed to fix this by rebooting in safe mode and booting back to normal mode. This seemed to fix it permanently since it did not happen again.
Now, I tried to use my GPS to play some Pokemon Go. While I was playing I noticed that I was not able to use the button that made the map point in my direction. I installed a Compass app and to my surprise, it said that I didn't have a sensor for it. My compass seems to be gone.
I went ahead and did a factory reset. It did not work. Every single of those issues keeps happening.
Then I tried to use the "refurbish" option on LG UP. I'm always getting "Error: Error Code = 0x2000, Can't decide current device mode
Any suggestions? My device is the European with stock firmware. My S/N begins with 604. I really didn't want to send my phone to repair, I know it will take ages. RIght now in my city it has been really hot (43ºC in the shadow), but there's really nothing I can do about the heat. This never happened with my Galaxy S4 Mini. Help?
That sounds crazy!
Any possible water damage?
Try going to the service menu and testing everything from there. This is done by dialing a code in the dialer app.
So for the international version it is *#546368#*815#
For the Dual sim version it is *#546368#*818#
I assume for the NA version it is *#546368#*811#

Hey, thanks for the reply. And I told you it's too damn hot here so the only water contact the phone might have was with my sweat.
As for the tests, the phone failed Barometer, something called TL wrong and the proximity test. The GPS itself was fine tho

In that menu, try going to Device Test and choose SAAT. Then tap on Service Menu Manual Test and then tap on Key and next tap on Test then Cal Start. This will help you recalibrate the proximity sensors. Use your phone after the recalibration to check if it works properly.

I guess it's time to send it for repair. At least my humidity thingy hasn't been triggered.

Samsung Galaxy S4 mini not booting

Hey All,
I was recently in a rush to switch off my phone but accidentally turned it on again...
So instead of waiting all the way through the start-up when the Samsung logo appeared I pulled out the battery and put it back in so it would switch off.
I only tried to switch my phone back on later at night, and realised it didn't switch on. I thought the battery was low so I left it to charge for a few hours...
Went back to check, the power charging indicator hadn't shown up and the phone didn't start either.
The wall power, plug and USB cable are fine as I tried with other devices but my phone just won't start
Its been two days and it still hasn't turned back on....
PLEASE HELP!!!

You've bricked it, probably.
Is there any sign of life? Can you boot into download or recovery?
You'll need to follow one of the bricked threads .......

Not that i can tell, tried charging no sign
Tried pushing power button and volume button with wall power and w/o but it wouldn't do anything.
I think that is what recovery mode is...
But what is download?
Also bricked is pretty serious....
Do u think the battery thing caused that?
What can I do now

Doesn't sound very promising. Sounds like a hard brick.
recovery is home/vol up/power
download is home/vol down/power
but if it's not showing any signs of life it won't be much help.
If you plug it into your PC does Odin detect it?
If not then sending it for jtag repair is your only chance
(unless your battery was run down past the point it can be recharged and that is why it seems dead)

I had a similar situation. No sign of life, no recharging.
However I managed to get it back to life by pulling battery and cable, and putting it back again while holding power (and maybe other buttons) pressed. Had to try some times.

Odin wasn't detecting it....
But
After I tried @sumeruter 's method my phone started vibrating in pulses and my computer said an unidentified device was plugged in

Thank You so much...
Initially there was just pulsating vibration but no visuals but after 30 times.......
My phone showed the Samsung logo and booted as normal.
Thank you

I've not found a one click solution, unfortunately.
The closest to a one click solution is doing a nandroid backup, I use TWRP. However it's not easy to extract single folders to reinstall photos or similar but is good to replace a whole chunk of your system if your phone is not working properly.
I use "my phone explorer" to sync all contacts, calendars, photos etc locally, ie without Google. It will also sync your photos, unlike most backup apps & works with Firefox & Lighting calendar, unlike most backup apps. I also use EasyBackup app. for added safety of contacts etc. but it, like must apps only backsup stock browsers bookmarks, calendars etc. Music I always only pull from my PC so that's backed up. The hard stuff is photos etc from mesaging/chat apps like Signal etc I basically do the following,
http://www.guidingtech.com/51900/backup-whatsapp-cloud-platforms/
So yes I make it hard for myself as I don't just back everything up to Google, just some things.

hi,
The something must be QLOAD_USB.
You have a hard bricked phone. Look for a debrick image for your phone and put it in sd card. Check the forum, you can find it.
I had the same problem, I can share the debrick file if you need it.
What is your phone model? and make?
