Hi there
I'd suggest taking a look in the dev section of these forums and looking through the root thread there, have a look at around page 11 or so, pretty easy from there, it's good fun and non invasive too

Will the A100 get official ICS? Sorry to ask, but I am looking at buying either the a500 or the a100.
no one will know until it gets here, but my guess would be sometime after march if its going to happen at all.

Hm, I'd be very disappointed if it took Acer that long to update the two tablets. I've already decided if my A100 doesn't get updated Acer will never see any of my money again. The one thing that really gets me about Android (the only thing really) is lazy companies not updating for no reason at all.
I think Acer will push an update out however, the build on the A100 looks a mostly clean stock build with added Acer apps (my main reason for buying this over the Flyer, hate Sense) so it shouldn't be too hard (right?).
Back to topic, I wouldn't wait, just root, it's good fun and can be a little adventure if you will ha ha. As long as you read carefully and tread carefully all is well

Thanks for your opinion. I didnt mean to post this as a question for say. Just wanted to hear from some of the rom experts if there was anything in this update that is worth updating for. I think that qualifies as for "android development". Its not like i asked "hey when is this coming out?" Or "do i have to reroot if i update to this?, can i even update to this?"...
This is a great community and i usually get great opinions and answers...

I think its worth it, but I do not update till someone makes an official rooted version in a flashable.zip, that way we don't lose root and we are up to date.
rmk40 released a leaked version but I don't think it was the final form of the OTA.

Thanks ID, this was the kind of opinion i was looking for. i unrooted today, pain in the behind to do it too, because i just flashed rom after rom and was never satisfied. Their aren't any problems with the roms, i know a lot of hard work went into them an all... just need to learn how to build so i can just have exactly what i want instead of nagging hard working, not to mention under appreciated devs, for every little detail.
Im never in dire need to be rooted, just like everything to work at all times. Thanks for your opinion and cool roms.

I've heard this is official from an employee, but they're not always up snuff concerning accuracy.
I am happy to see the Galaxy W has at least separate section on XDA, although its in Low 'Activity Devices' but if we keep it going then soon it will be on 'Current Devices'.
I recently bought the Galaxy W and now playing with its feature. In most of the areas i found it fantastic but it lags some of the things.
In the coming days I will be posting here. I hope this section will grow soon with plenty of custom ROMs.
In past I was the HTC fan and used many Android based models but now i have switched to Samsung completely.
Thanks
I bought mine last week too. It's actually my first experience owning a smartphone but I'm perfectly happy with it. Thought it'd lag a bit more but instead it's as fast as I could hope. Of course, TUXBrother's OC custom ROM helps in that regard^^
I'd also like this section to grow some more, as I feel this is quite the underappreciated device. Bring on more custom ROMs!
My second android phone
Hi,
I bought one for my wife 3 day ago, she likes it, and my opinion is that besides the screen and the size its not much different than my SGSII.
I think this is a really good middle range phone, perhaps the price should be a bit lower
Magorgoth
For Php16k (I dunno how much this is in your currency), I can't ask for anything more. It's snappy especially right after applying all the tweaks, the body/screen size is big enough to still remain pocket-friendly, and the screen is bright enough. It can run almost anything it's big brother can, except for those HD games which obviously requires a better GPU.
i bought mine 2 months ago, and never regret it, actually this my 1st smartphone and im glad i pick a good 1

just bought this SGW yesterday, china version,..everything just fine till i found that it doesn't have market place apps pre-installed on it..
been trying to install manually...install is OK, but when creating new account, it always exit...(
the worst part is...this china version is S$50 more expensive compare to singapore price..
now i'm thinking about updating the firmware with other version (region)....
Which firmware do you have installed on?
China Firmware should be the I8150ZSLA2 version. If it's still on warranty, try going to the samsung service centre in your area. It is of course your choice whether doing that or to reflash using another stock rom

Can I do that? i mean asking service cnter to reflash with another version that include market app..
I just thought this is the rule in china...not to include google related thing..
I don't think Samsung Service Center would do a reflash, If they can't solve the problem, you could reflash it yourself. In my country there are some people using ZSLA Firmware (Taiwan CSC), and none of them reported market failure. Might as well check on your firmware version (settings -> about phone, look for baseband version)

As more phone makers start to roll out ICS you'll see more and more version #'s, not necessarily equating to any tangible improvements.

Then sell your Nexus and go back. Nobody is making you keep it. you can root your phone and put 4.0.3 or even a 4.0.4 rom on it. If you dont want to root you phone you can unlock it, temporarily boot CWM and flash the stock 4.0.4 OTA.

I'm sorry you don't like your Nexus, but no one is forcing you to use it. Feel free to sell it and buy any HTC phone if you'd like. Truth is that the Nexus will still be the first to be updated to vanilla Android, because no other phone in existence will have it. You go buy the HTC phone it will have 4.0.3 and that's amazing! But it has Sense, and when it comes to the next update, you'll be *****ing again that its not coming and you'll want your Nexus back.
The fact that you'd consider leaving the Nexus on 4.0.2 for an HTC phone on 4.0.3 because its x.x.1 higher leads me to believe that you don't understand how great having a Nexus is.
I dont understand this impatience. The nexus will get the 4.0.4 update, likely very soon. Google is just finishing everything. They are not sitting around doing nothing. And they are not purposely holding back. They WANT us to have the update. Its just taking time.

Or maybe it is a unsatisfied owner feeling like venting/discussing the very current (and yes well covered) subject with other owners in a DISCUSSION FORUM.
Sorry but in my opinion... someone that jumps right into someone else's conversation (it is obviously not a conversation for you, you make it clear you disrespect the comment and submission) and yells "troll" is him/herself the troll.
Grandma didn't say it exactly like this but it went like this...
"if you don't have anything good to say... then STFU"
Something like that.
By the way OP... I hear ya, so do a lot of others. It pisses me off every time I see a press release mentioning some new ICS unit and here we are... still waiting. I rooted and am using a 4.0.4 that makes it "usable" but it still has crappy phone/data coverage/reception and Verizon has been promising that "patch" since early in January well before the launch day buyer's return deadline. We shouldn't have to root and take chances like that... lucky for me I'm an IT engineer and am comfortable with it but I would have been much happier with a 'bone stock" unit that works right.
There are a lot of threads on this... but then again there are always a lot of threads on everything so... whatever.
Verizon is dropping the ball big time... my only hope is that the update they come out with will be better that the leaked 4.0.4 and that is what is taking so long... and at this point in time is still not an excuse.

Ever think that since you were obviously trying to troll them, they just BSed you so you'd get all excited, run to the forums post that we're getting it, then never get it?
Case in point, the G2x at one point was said to get ICS, this was like a year ago, not only did they never get it, they pulled it completely and they never will (officially).
Asking about an update to a new OS this quickly will almost always result in bad information, they could have confused it with the A110 instead of the A100 or considered them the same thing, when they aren't.
However if it's true, that is great news. We'll get Jellybean next year.
We won't ever get an official update to jellybean. Guarantee it.

The reason a lot doubt we'll get the update is most devices get 1 major update, and we had ours, that coupled with new devices replacing ours means we hit EOL. That of course doesn't mean we won't, but that's the way it usually plays out.
We can sit and speculate all we want, we won't know for sure until Acer releases a final list with us on or off it.

My reasoning, is considering how long ics took to get to us, by the time they realesed it android would be on 5.1.

And that's Asus. It really is up to Acer if they want to spend the money developing it for an EOL device. Its not a matter of will it run, we proved it will, its up to Acer to decide its worth their time and money, simple as that. Can't compare different devices from different companies for this kind of stuff.
Especially Asus against Acer.
