[LINK] Ask Qualcomm to release Adreno 200 drivers with hardware acceleration - Desire General

I bumped into this and didn't find any threads on xda so I decided to share. Register and tell Qualcomm what you think. Let them know there are quite many users who want their Desire to have hardware accelerated UI.

Re: QSD 8250, Adreno 200 hardware-related proprietary ...
In order to provide enthusiasts with recent improvements made to Snapdragon's Adreno graphics drivers, Qualcomm has made the updated Adreno 2xx graphics driver binaries available here. Note that you will most likely need to be a developer to take advantage of these new drivers since they'll require integration with the CAF release of ICS, but Qualcomm is providing these driver binaries "as is" to those of you who have requested them.

[INFO] An Open-Source GLES Driver For Samsung's Galaxy GPU

Not that important yet, but worth checking.
Main target is i5700, but maybe there may be an open-source PowerVR driver for Linux with benefit for GalaxyS as well.
There Might Be An Open PowerVR Driver In Q3'11

Will see.
Thx for info!
Q3 2011?
mmm...i hope sooner!
We need more power and graphics driver can make a difference.
But AMD/ATI made open driver soo long time ago, and we still never get even equal driver.

open source driver for Mali GPUs

phoronix reported this today:
"There is some exciting news to break today on Phoronix... Coming up at FOSDEM (the Free Open-Source Developers' European Meeting in Brussels) will be the formal announcement of an open-source, reverse-engineered graphics driver for the ARM Mali graphics processor. OpenGL ES triangles are in action on open-source code. Will this be the start of fully open-source ARM graphics drivers for Android and Linux?"
is this relevant to our dev community? isn't this one of the obstacles in getting CM9 on our phones?
Wow...maybe this will help fix our slightly-off crt off animation. Exciting stuff

...or what about Hw acceleration for everything?

Better late than never...
Good for us

Wow i cant believe, i guess it's safe to say official CM9 is coming to Desire.
I just wanna cry!!
Don't read to much into it yet It might not be as helpful as ppl think.
Great news!!! Now devs have everything for their new roms!

Just gave it a try with latest dk_zero_cool-rom. Took the files from the package and pushed them to the appropriate places. System came up, but running chrome seems more buggy than with the old version. There seem to be lots of locking and out-of-memory exceptions. will give tiamats latest kernel a try now...
Update: no luck with Tiamat_Bravo-v031412 as well. I've attached a logcat if anyone is interested in looking at this
I suspect that just pushing the files directly might be buggy, people will probably find that with roms will need to be recompiled against these binaries to get the most out of them. Could well be wrong mind you but certainly think wuld be the most logical step
I'm not sure if a simple recompile will help. These are all dynamic modules, as far as I understand this it shouldn't make much difference. especially since the package doesn't contain any headers but just the libs and some firmware.
I'm pretty sure atleast kernel has to be "reworked" for new drivers.
I wouldn't bet one euro on that! Legendary Qualcomm

While this is better than nothing, let's first give the talented devs at XDA a crack at this before passing judgment. Hopefully once they work their magic, we can get a more polished product in a shorter timeframe.
I'll be impressed if ICS can be implemented on the desire as well as gingerbread was. Let's not forget that the desire launched with Android 2.1 (maybe even 2.0 in some areas?) if I'm not mistaken.
Well I be damned...

[Q] Adreno 2xx driver update

Hello,
On another forum i found this link to Qualcomm's website and there was a discussion about the usability of ICS drivers for the adreno 2xx posted there on march 13th.
So my question: I'm running Andomedus v13 and I wonder if it would make the graphics driver more up to date? If i'm right the vision uses the adreno 205 GPU, so it would be compatible? Or is it just Developer related?
Thanks!

That is for devs only, you couldn't just lift the driver and put it in yourself. But it is invaluable stuff for devs to cook into their roms.

Gaming on Snapdragon now faster with Google and updateable GPU drivers

Update, March 25 2020 (1:50AM ET): Qualcomm has confirmed more GPU driver update details, and it looks like you shouldn’t expect these updates to arrive every month.
“Qualcomm is committing to a quarterly cadence for release of updated drivers to the OEM,” the company told Android Authority in response to an emailed query.
The OEM then needs to push out this GPU driver update to the Google Play Store or app stores in China, and Qualcomm says it’s hoping device manufacturers stick to a quarterly release schedule too. But how long will these updates last for a given processor though?
----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Original article, March 24 2020 (5:33AM ET): Qualcomm announced the ability to deliver GPU driver updates via the Play Store back in December 2019, initially saying it would be limited to new chipsets (starting with Snapdragon 865 and 765 series).
Now, the firm has announced that several Snapdragon 855 phones will be first to get GPU driver updates in this manner (h/t: 9to5Google). These phones are the Samsung Galaxy S10, Samsung Galaxy Note 10, and Google Pixel 4 series, with Qualcomm saying more devices will get the feature “later.”
----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
The announcement comes as part of a partnership with Google for the Android GPU Inspector tool for developers. This profiling tool allows developers to inspect mobile GPU usage (including Qualcomm’s Adreno GPU) in games to figure out where improvements can be made.
In fact, Qualcomm claims that Google and a developer partner used the tool to deliver 40% GPU utilization savings in an unnamed game on the Pixel 4 XL. The silicon designer said this optimization resulted in a faster frame-rate and better battery life.
Qualcomm also confirmed that it would make a beta version of the Adreno GPU driver available to select developers, who can then give their feedback and suggestions for future driver updates.
“The final drivers will also be available in the Google Play store on select devices. Consumers will be able to update their Adreno GPU driver just like an app,” the company reiterated.
We’ve contacted Qualcomm to find out more about GPU driver updates via the Play Store, and will update the article when they get back to us. We’ve also asked Samsung whether this feature is restricted to Qualcomm devices and await a response. But it certainly seems like a welcome feature, as it’s poised to deliver smoother performance for budget phones and for flagship devices (especially as time goes by).

hopefully this will bring further improvements to our device in the near future
Really happy with these news!
This is awsome! Finally!!! Waiting for that
I just miss some fluidity vs games-apps when the phone is hot, because after 20-30min playing PUBG mobile 90hz, phone is a bit hot... so when I have to change between apps, sometimes it's a bitt lagged, or frame dropped in the game. I think is because of the hot, but maybe is something not optimized. A10 M3.0 stable.
Did you guys listen some ETA?
Didn't read anywhere it will come to rog 2 but good to have hope though.
