sense 3.5 roms aren't booting. - G2 and Desire Z Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I'm not really sure what the problem could be, since nobody else seems to be experiencing this.
I'm currently running cm7 flawlessly, but whenever I flash a 3.5 sense rom (I've tried runnydroid and rcmix4.0) I get stuck in a bootloop, and yes, I tried downloading them multiple times, I don't think it's a broken download.
each time I Wipe data/cache/dalvic via clockwork and then flash, and I get caught in a bootloop and am forced to restore my cm7 nandroid backup.
I can flash ilwt without these issues as well (although the ilwt customizations don't work for me; here's my ilwt.txt if anyone wants to point out whats wrong for me https://docs.google.com/document/d/1QCRjA1M_k7vZaosnA9sEiFY6aK07COtNq4xonFK1Kh8/edit )
thanks in advance.

for sense 3+ you need the dezire hboot:
http://www.virtuousrom.com/2011/06/t-mobile-g2-users-migrating-to-desirez.html

thank you. I guess I'll try it later then, but I'm also kind of hesitant because it's kinda alot to do if I'm going to flash back to cm. I'd rather have the speed of stock android then a bogged down sense, but it all depends on how fast these new sense roms are.
I'm still confused about why my ilwt customizations aren't working though.

If you do the hboot thats the only time you'll need to do it and all AOSP roms (meaning cyanogen and such) will still work so yes its a lot of effort for just sense ROMs but you don't lose anything
Sense 3.5 ROMs are a little slow even with swap, they aren't horrible but still, i would suggest more a sense 3 ROM such as unity
For ILWT did you place the file in the correct location? : SDcard/ILWT

I think I had an old version of the lwt text file that he was using as an example, rather than the one he linked for download, anyway, I got that to work now.
I do understand that the Hboot is a 1 time thing, but it will leave me with a little bit less internal storage than before (not that I'd be using it all anyway)

Migrating to Sense

So far, I've only used AOSP ROMs (DevNull and Oxygen) since I rooted my phone. Personally, I like it better because I like simplicity, and the idea of a stock ROM appealed to me.
But there seems to be a problem with AOSP ROMs, the call delay issue. Although people say they hardly notice it, I get 3-4 seconds delay every time and I find myself going like "Yes. Hello. Hello? Are you there?" every time I answer a call. I've heard that the problem is AOSP-specific, because of some libs Google uses, and that HTC use their own libs which do not present this issue.
So yesterday I backed everything up and got ready to try LeeDroid. But after installation, I could not get the ROM to boot nor the SD card to mount. I eventually fixed the problem by repartitioning the SD card, and I'm now running DevNull. I'd also like to mention that I'm S-OFFed, was running CWM 3.1.0.1 and had the Oxygen HBOOT before installing the Stock one back.
Now, I'd like to know how I am supposed to correctly switch to a Sense ROM coming from an AOSP one, as well as some opinion as to which is the cleanest, reasonably fast Sense ROM available out there. Perhaps some thoughts on kernels, too.
Thanks in advance!
I am on RcmixS 1.6.2 at the moment and working well.
Do full wipethen flash the rom, that is it. Enjoy.
I did perform a full wipe before installing.
What version are you trying to install? At the start the GB version didn't like the newer versions of CWM, also hboot versions were an issue too. I haven't really been keeping up because I went back to 2.4.1 till an actual GB release. Check it out those might be causing you trouble.

I've downloaded InsertCoin and I plan on installing it later today, as now I've got some stuff to finish. If it doesn't work, I'll try downgrading CWM. Thanks!
You need to use the stock 250MB HBOOT - obviously a Sense-based ROM is too large for the Oxygen one

Try AuraxTSense, i have been back and forth between most of the Sense ROMS & this is the one i come back too.
ALWAYS
I've given InsertCoin a try yesterday, but I didn't like it as it was way too laggy (as in I usually had to touch something twice for anything to happen).
I think I'm going to try each one today and see what I'll end up using. I'll post my opinions here.
@EddyOS I did use the stock HBOOT with LeeDroid, but I downloaded the CM7 version of InsertCoin.
@3f1f37 I'll give it a try, thanks!

laggy? twice touching ?
Are you trying to touch things during the first minutes of the first boot after flashing??
Let the ROM settle about 5-10 mins after first boot, your phone will be blazing fast afterwards.
InsertCoin 1.0.7 CM7 (Gongerbread; Sense 2.1 + 3.0; 130MB) is one of the fastest and the most stable Sense ROMs currently available,I use it also.

I too felt it was very laggy. CM7 version, with CM7 hboot, 1GBext. even the typing was bad, had to retype messages because it would start to lag out and miss letters
i dont know what i could have done wrong to get such a horrible experience. maybe you can enlighten me?
@aaa I've overall had a laggy experience even one day after installing it.
@ringer13 what ROM have you eventually settled to? Thanks!
I'm currently trying CoolD, or something like that, because the ZIP only has 144 MB. I also tried installing HiApk (it has 138 MB), but the download was damaged or something, it didn't pass the verification process in Amon_RA 2. But I will redownload it if I'm dissatisfied with CoolD.

cyanogenmod7 ive found most gb sense roms way too laggy so went with aosp
I'll have to agree with that. My HiApk ZIP was corrupted and after booting CoolD, all I got was Force Close for all the apps, including the launcher.
I didn't bother anymore, so I went on and installed Oxygen 2.1.3. It works like a charm.
Well it is true that u have to sacrifice speed, but the benefits from the sense are worthing the less smooth response, and mostly it is hardly noticeable...
Sent from my HTC Desire
I know the speed comparison of AOSP and Sense, I have used both.
The only thing I have not used is MIUI...saw it on youtube, and hate it right away...
I know AOSP is always faster than Sense but Sense in generally especially InsertCoin is not so bad so that you had to touch things twice before getting any response.
Moreover, InsertCoin is one of the fastest Sense ROMs you can find.
If you had to touch everything twice until you got any response from your phone, check if you have massive processes on the background caused by any other apps/syncs or some problems with your SD card.

Best ROM for my HTC Desire?

Hello all,
I've used CM7 for quite a long time now but now I always get tons of errors and my phone is slow with it, maybe just the version but I would like to change to a newer ROM probably with sense 3.0 or a mix. All I want is that my phone will work smooth and no un-needed lag or random application crashing. I also would like to try out a new sense ROM but I really want to go with a stable and a fast one. Well, it's pretty hard to decide which one to test since there are like tons of them around the android development forum for the Desire.
So guys, which one do you recommend to me?
There is no best ROM, It's down to to your preferences.
From my experience I would without a doubt recommend 'RCMix S'. Try it
I've heard lots of talk about RCMiX S, I will try it then.
RcMix wasn't updated for some quite time.
Actually im using this one: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1040121
And its pretty smooth as for Sense 3.0, i had no issues either.

With RcMix S I can't even access recovery anymore, it just boots up and whenever I try to boot up, I can only see the background and the upper panel with notifications(battery status, running apps...) that I can't, I have no idea what to do.
@Edit, I can now access it but I constantly get the 'Force Close' errors for android.process.acore

I wouldn't, it's laggy, been there done that, I wouldn't advise anyone to use it on a day to day basis. Why are you discriminating against the ROM just because it hasn't been updated? The reason why it hasn't is because the developer was on vacation and he is now back and he even commented that he will be posting and update in the coming days.

Did you Wipe /data, /sd-ext, /cache, /sdcard/.android._secure, before flashing the rom and partition your SD Card?

[Q] Advice on Installing a New ROM

So, I have been rooted for ages.
I liked rooting because it was simple to follow the instructions on what to do (it was just like installing any old application on a PC if I remember). I haven't exactly explored the full features of rooting as I am just an average user but now I am finding I want more apps than the phone will allow, so it's time to get a new ROM.
Here's Some Information:
HTC Desire - Unbranded (UK)
Rooted with Clockwork Mod
S-Off Status: Don't know
Android: 2.2
Software: 2.29.405.5
Why Do I Want to Get a New ROM?
Space issues really.
I am nearly constantly warned these days about low space. I've been running with about 30Mb to spare, but now when I update various apps, it moans at me. It also means I am limited to what I can now install, even though I may only use the app once every few months.
My battery life is good (well, 2-3 days) and everything else is fine, it's just the space issue that I need to solve.
What ROM's Have I Looked At?
Starburst:
Seems to be to be the one I need, although I perhaps am being narrow minded with the whole "I want sense" and "I need the DATA2SD" thing.
CyanogenMod:
Seems nice, but no Sense? Maybe I can pull away from Sense as really I only use the clock/weather, the larger weather, calendar, a little bit FriendStream, but I am happy without FriendStream and HTC Peep I could install by itself or go without it (I can just text Twitter). There are many calendar apps and again, it might be possible to install it as a stand alone app, or I might find one that is simply better.
Someone else suggested LeeDroid which I've heard a lot about too, although I haven't really looked into it.
So, I have a few questions now:
Should I be looking to upgrade to Gingerbread?
Is Sense 3.5 a good way to go?
Is there a ROM that has the DATA2SD with Sense 3.5?
I have read that Titanium Backup will allow me to save all the apps and their data/saved games somewhere and then it's just a one-touch-install to have them all back again, is that correct?
Will some ROM's allow me to delete/choose not to install things like Teeter?
If I install a new ROM, I can put it back to a standard stock ROM correct? Just so when I come to sell the phone on, it's back to what it was.
When I've installed a custom ROM, I can still use the Market/App Brain to update apps correct?
I think that's it.
I don't really want to be installing one ROM, then deciding it's rubbish so installing another, then another, I'd just like an informed view. I think my main aim is ease of install. I'm not very confident with adb, although I can obviously follow "type this and that" step by step guides.
If anyone has any other suggestions then that would be great.
Thanks
I don't know all the answers, but I'll try to answer some. I had the same problem as you did.

I found that Sense 3.0, Sense 2.1+3.0 hybrids were very slow(I guess this applies for Sense 3.5 since it's newer than 3.0)

Most Sense ROMs are pretty stripped of crap like that. However if you do have it you can uninstall it afterwards.

Do a backup before flashing a new ROM! That way you will have your old ROM. However I'm not sure about how to unroot, but it is possible.

Yes.
P.S. My first try was CyanongenMod, and I haven't regretted it since. Almost every Sense app/widget can be replaced by apps in the market.
Please use the Q&A Forum for questions Thanks
Moving to Q&A
Man, I thought this forum was busy and there'd be loads of recommendations.
Seems not :/
I believe Sense 3.0 is good enough since Sense 3.5 ROM is not yet stable.
Cool3d / Aurora has good performance. But you need to S-OFF your phone first. It's very important before jumping into ROM that requires ext4 and CM7

[Q] CM7 or a Sense Rom like Synergy

So I'm loving my EVO running CM 7.1. It runs really well and I love using the sd card partitioned for s2e, but sometimes I receive texts up to 3 days late. That's unacceptable.
Is it worth switching to another sense based rom? If so, I'd like to use one with God Mode for the increase in speeds, so any suggestions would be great.
On a side note, I was able to install Synergy with God Mode once, but wasn't able to have it boot again. I'm not a noob at rom switching, but I have no idea what the heck went wrong. I wiped everything, tried re-flashing, nothing. I gave up and went back to CM7.
Any responses are greatly appreciated, so thank you in advance.

Honestly with godmode the only thing I notice different is higher quadrant scores and that's about it it feels the same as the regular version. Also if you do choose godmode make sure your using amon RA recovery since only compatible with it. Also check out some of the roms in my sig I recommended those to everyone

Solutions for Late Texts?
Thanks so much for the quick responses. Would switching to a Sense based rom for PRL updates and such fix the delayed text issue? Is there anything I can do with CM7 to fix it? It occurs randomly when I send and receive texts, but mainly receive.

I've tried those, but I just switched to Tiamat today, so I should give it a few more days to see if that hasn't solved it.
Godmode tends to be wacky, works for some, not for others. It worked on my phone for about a week, then went to FC city I tried to re-flash to fix it but then it bootlooped, kept doing that over and over til I finally figured I was one it won't work for and moved to non godmode. That ran fine til I switched to The Classic, the only difference I saw in godmode was benchmarks which IMO are worthless, the non godmode and godmode both performed the same in real life conditions. For your text issues try flashing up to date radios, then flash a stock sense Rom and update PRL and profile and flash back to cm7 see if they work better with everything updated. Otherwise you could use a sense Rom like The Classic v 0.0.4 very fast and very stable I've been running it since release from v 0.0.1 to v 0.0.4 which I am currently running with no issues thus far other than if u set autobrightness it is very sensitive in this release, so it adjusts very easily to small light changes. But it is one of the fastest sense roms I've tried and I've tried a lot cuz something about my evo hates AOSP, runs for a short time then random bootloops on all roms I've tried, cm7.1, miui, salvage mod, decks 1.3. So I stick to sense which I run senseless, I like my HTC apps anyways they look and feel more polished than most stock AOSP alternatives to me. But that's just personal preference. I've had text issues and updating PRL and profile always seemed to fix it for me so you could try just flashing a stock sense Rom update those and flash back to cm 7.1, hope that helps.

[Q] downgrade desire to froyo

hi
im a noob please help. i have a desire. htc upgraded it to froyo. then 2.3 came around and htc said they would not upgrade and i was left with little choice but to flash . i rooted my desire , did a nand back up of the froyo with sense rom,and flashed cm succesfully. i was a happy camper. now cm has a lot of problems, like my desire suddenly just switches off with no warning. battery issues where the battery dies with no warning,i have done all sorts of battery calibrations. nothing works. i would like to get my froyo back with sense.
i would like to know how to flash my backed up froyo, is there something special i need to do so as to not brick my desire? or do i just restore the rom from rom manager? i am currently running cm 7.1 stable,i am on clockworkmod 2.5.07
please help..as much as i love cm , it has a few bugs atleast right now...
Well, the whole "switching off" thing is weird (to me at least) but you may want to consider instead of flashing back to Froyo, to flash some other ROM with Gingerbread. The issue is, of course, if you want to keep sense, then I believe there are some ROMs that keep sense.
I just got this account and I can't send links but have a quick search, I'm sure there is something out there.
And once again, in my opinion, you should stick with Gingerbread (or maybe wait a few more weeks for ICS)
Good luck
Boot into recovery (same place you made your nand backup) and this time choose to restore from your backup. This assumes you haven't changed your hboot partitions (if you have you'll need the stock hboot) Good luck!
how do i know if i have changed my hboot positions? is there a way of finding out?
