Please more roms for locked bootloader - Xperia Play Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

please... why not version locked and unlocked bootloaders for all roms.....

Locked bootloaders are restricted to stock roms, period. Custom roms require a custom kernel, which can only be installed with an unlocked bootloader.

Now we have CWM for locked bootloaders, you can use any custom rom based on stock, so thats every rom apart from CM7 and MIUI.

If you have a locked Bootloader, you can not use fastboot. So how can we flash a new ROM without fastboot? And we would only be able to flash a stock variant ROM, (basically bloatware removed), or a UK ROM or something, but im not sure what their ROM has to offer thats so different than ours, that I would not want to be able to fully use my Xpearia Play app to purchase new games. Everything a variant Stock ROM would do, i can do to my Stock ROM i already have.... remove bloat, change the look and appearance, even change the carrier name in the notification bar. Im not an expert though, thats just based on my limited knowledge of our phones.

Stock variant roms can have a lot more done then just debloating. Look at my ics theme if I built a rom based on the look and feel of it every stock app would change in appearance. Not to mention most roms for any device are based on stock.

I actually did check out your theme, nice by the way. to use your theme do i need to flash a different stock rom, or can i use the stock rom that came with my phone?
Ahhh.... ok i see what your saying.... to change certain files in order to achieve a "themed" appearance on such a large scale would actually require pulling a ROM, decompiling it, making the changes, re-compile everything, then repushing, or flashing it as a whole new ROM. (hence the term stock variant as opposed to custom rom)

So, actually, there are NO custom ROMs for the R800x, just customized versions of stock. And of those, there are maybe 2 CDMA compatible offerings. The GB "ROM" and using the ICS theme. Not the UK version because the hardware keys don't work. Other than that, what else is there?
I've seen this asked multiple times. I have yet to see anything but a vague answer. We need actual names, links, etc.

What do you expect a custom rom to be. A port of an htc rom, cm7(which is basically the same as our stock rom just loads of extra features), miui. a custom rom is nothing more then a customized version of android designed for a device and we have those. I think there are 3 developers for the cdma play so the amount of roms we have reflect that.

Wow, you guys have an odd sense of entitlement. This is a developers forum. Ultimately, it is here for the developers. If you want to know if a ROM works on the R800x look in the thread for that ROM. If you want more ROMs available either make them yourself or figure out a way to unlock our bootloader.
Ultimately, there is not nearly as much to be gained with custom ROMS as there is for other models, since we're already on a fairly stripped back Vanilla version. If you want to theme it, use a launcher.
I'm running ADW with an ICS theme... before that I was rocking Launcher7... Just enjoy your phone for what it is.

yeah a list will be good

CM7+ is actually a possibility on Locked Bootloaders.
I remember when I was on the Xperia X8 + X10 Mini Pro we never had a bootloader unlock until about 3-4 months back or something like that and we managed to get an almost perfect CM7 ROM thanks to FXP and we also managed to get a Honeycomb port!
So it is a posibility, maybe FXP will start having there ROMs for locked bootloaders.

They declared that since there was an official way to unlock the bootloader, they wouldn't try anything such as bootloader bypass.

It isn't a complaint, it's a request for a list. People keep saying there are several ROMs that will work on a locked bootloader, but no one ever gives a list or details. I read the threads, but the information simply isn't there. Or isn't clear to someone who doesn't have an unlocked bootloader.
And I have just as much right to make a request for information as anyone else. That's hardly an attitude of entitlement. But there is clearly an intentional bias against anyone who doesn't have an unlocked bootloader, particularly R800x owners and all we ever get are vague, unhelpful, often insulting answers from elitists who clearly enjoy lording it over the "n00bs" instead of helping us learn.
If you have nothing useful to contribute to the conversation, don't post to it, troll.

Well by the sounds of it your not planing to root your device (at least straight away). Although if you do decide to purchase I recommend it as there are numerous fixes with custom roms/kernels. The battery out of the box was shockingly bad but this was quickly fixed by flashing a new kernel and it improved dramatically!! The other issue out of the box I had was the signal dropped out every so often but you can flash the latest baseband and that resolved the issue.
Hope that helps...

i'm planning to root my device...but maybe 1 or 2weeks later...for the battery fix, which kernel should i flash?is it a custom kernel or a stock kernel?
and for the signal drop issue which baseband should i flash?btw...is baseband different in every country?? i'm a noob
It depends on the rom you might flash. Some like CyanogenMod have a modified kernel that improves performance and battery life anyway. I personally like Francos kernel but it some what depends on your experiences with different rom/kernel combinations and experimentation.
As for flashing the 'right' baseband, there are different releases depending on your location. However this is not to say that a asian baseband won't work in europe (they do). So again this calls for personal experimentation and seeing what works best for you in your area.

i'm going to stick with the stock ics first...wat is the ics version of nexus out of the box?4.0.1?if it's 4.0.1,how do i upgrade it to 4.0.2 or 4.0.3?if i flash Francos kernel, will i lose my data and apps in the phone?
i'm from malaysia(asia) so which baseband do u think i should flash??
again...i'm a noob...i really appreciate tat u answer my question...thanks alot...
The version out of the box will more than likely be 4.0.1. If your planning to root anyway then you don't need to worry about what you get out of the box.
If your bootloader is locked (which it probably will be) when you get your device you will need to unlock this. Doing so will wipe your device so it's recommended to do so sooner rather than later.
EDIT:
After this point flashing a new kernel will not wipe your app data (unless you want to )
There are 'stock' rooted roms available, I but I believe these are limited to 4.0.1/2 only. If you want great performance I would recommend a custom rom.
The Toolkit (here!) is a great tool if your new to the whole rooting scene so I recommended looking at that.
You can have a look at the list of basebands as well (here!) which might make the situation a little clearer. There's no 'easy' answer, as I said before you need to do some reading and self testing. Everyones situation is different depending on exact location and rom combination. Don't be afraid at trying these new things (you can always flash a different one).

As far as I know (I may be wrong), unlocking the bootloader and rooting the device does not void Samsungs warranty. Even if it does you can relock the bootloader/unroot your device so there were no signs of you tampering with your device in that manner.
Try aokp with Franco kernel.

No. The newest official version is 4.0.2.
In the development section of this forum there are 4.0.3 roms available because they are in aosp but 4.0.3 never never got pushed ota. There are leaked 4.0.4 roms too.
To flash a kernel you need to unlock your bootloader, flash clockwork mod recovery and flash from there. Don't flash Franco.kernel over 4.0.2
Just use the gnex toolkit to do everything, its simple.
Then read about bootloaders, adb and fastboot.
very valuable knowledge.

Locked Bootlader: What rom available?

Ok, i understand that ICS is just not good for gaming. I have a R800ì root LOCKED BOOTLOADER. Can i still do some flashinf roms, etc etc? I'm new in these things, but i think it's time for me to begin. If i want to keep my bootloader blocked, what can i flash? Is it possible to flash Xperia NXT 1.2 rom, DIxperia 2 rom, TrueAncestor rom, etc etc?
And most important. BEFORE i do anything, is there a way to back up everything EXACTLY as it was, so i can go back to my stock 2.3.4? Thank u for your time guys:good:
Hi, assuming you are rooted, yes you can install some rom that are compatible with locked loaders. The ones you mentioned are all compatible, provided you flash the specific fw that's indicated in each of those rom
You can do a nandroid backup to backup your current rom exactly like it is right now, with cwm. Just download x parts from the market

[Q] Ion says Bootloader Unlock Allowed: No, Can I install custom ROMs/kernels anyway?

I've been trying to buy a Sony Xperia Ion (LT28AT) for use on T-Mobile USA where the bootloader is allowed to be unlocked. So far, all the devices I've looked at all say No.

With a locked bootloader you can use roms that are stock-based.
With an unlocked bootloader you can use roms that need another kernel, just like miui, cm 10 etc

Also, with a locked bootloader can anyone tell me if I can install any kernels that will overclock?

CyanogenMod Roms need their own kernel, and to flash this kernel, you need an unlocked bootloader.
You cant flash any custom kernel on a locked bootloader.
You must unlocked bootloader before flash another kernel.

What's inaccurate about it? This is an exception because they managed to get CM10 working with a stock kernel. You can't get any higher versions though because those require an appropriate kernel that isn't stock anymore. There have been a lot of kernel changes between Android 4.1 and 4.2. So on locked bootloader you can install stockbased ROMs (like eXistenZ) and one particular version of CM10. Impossible to flash a custom kernel.
Unlocking the bootloader also has downsides though. Beyond Android 4.0, the Mobile Bravia Engine stops working on an unlocked bootloader. Without that, the colours are a bit more washed out, and the screen already isn't the most vibrant around (the Xperia S screen anyway, but the Xperia Ion screen isn't that different).

The first reason is the addiction to custom roms..
I cannot stand stock ROMs and I wanted the latest version of android.

Because why not? It's a Linux based software, we should do whatever we can to it to make it better! Root, install custom ROMs, build ROMs, modify them, kernels, everything! For a better "UX" - User Experience
a few reasons:
1. Custom Roms! Its fun....
2. I dont mind stock roms... but I hate the stock firmware that the service providers provide on the phone (bloatware and locked down functionality, etc...)
3. and as you mentioned, many good apps require root. Such as titanium back up which I love using.
I just had to go back to stock as I was soft bricked, and after less than 24 hours I can't stand the bloatware, I have to enter my APN info (CM includes a bunch from the get-go), and tethering doesn't authorize. So I'm on XDA looking for the root procedure and I'll be looking for the (hopefully) perfect ROM soon.
The phone is old enough, maybe you won't get lollipop and every other major update. With root you can get whatever you want.
