Hello Everyone!
I want to thank you all for making this site so informative and to the point - as I have been a frequent visitor since the days of my first (original) SPV. I have finally decided to try a different phone to my usual HTC choice and have just got the Orange i780 (which is a great phone! )
I was wondering if it might be possible to run something like HARD SPL on it and then put on a cooked ROM as the supplied Orange ROM is, as ever, far from thrilling. I would appreciate any help and if anyone wants some more information about the phone (as so little is currently available at the moment) ask away - and I will reply as soon as I get the chance.
Thank you!
I was going to get one of these, is it worth having? Have orange removed all the samsung stuff and put on their own stupid menu?
yup- they have. But its a gorgeous phone so as soon as it becomes possible to put new ROMs on it, it will be one of the best ones around in its form factor. Its nice to have something that feels half the weight of the TYTN2 and more than half as thin
Has anyone got an english rom working on the German Version of the i780? I see it is availiable on www.handit.de at a much cheaper price.
Has anyone tried the SDHC compatibility yet, I want to order a MicroSD card and will get the 8GB if it supports it?

Definetely. It's the fastest WM device ever. The mousepad is really cool. Better resolution (also yet, many programms have problems with it, not correct displaying etc.). Amazing build quality.
One thing that's missing is a cooked rom. The Software has bugs over bugs. a developer customized rom would be amazing.
But the device itself and esp. it's performance (processor) is the best ever!

As a favor to the community would you be so kind as to upload the SDHC drivers from the i780 to the FTP section of the site? That way people with other Samsung devices (SCH-i760, SGH-i760, SCH-i730 etc) could perhaps get full usage out of their SD Cards? The SGH-i780 itself looks pretty cool. Did it come unlocked?
Re: drivers
Hi Dominick,
I would e happy to help but have no idea what thedrivers you are talking about are or how I could get them off the phone - so if you can give me step by step instructions, I will happily do so. No, the phone is locked - and I can't wait to be able to put on cooked ROMs and use another SIM with it. Apart from the ROM gripes, loving the phone!
So in the i780's current state is it full of bugs?...generic and orange branded?
Also, would it not be possible to dump the rom from the generic and then flash to the orange branded device.
Thanks
J273
You make it sound like putting on a diff ROM would be very easy - please let me know how! I have always had to use HardSPL and other methods prior to that... Itsnot really full of bugs, its just the annoying ROM orange with useless things there and ... well I just want to run Schap's ROM for example or any other I choose
Sorry i got no idea im afraid....But i thought thats the way it works.....Use a rom dumper which will dump the rom to a memory card and then build a installable ROM from the dump of the generic handset.
Might be wrong though.
I don't think the i780 is full of bugs, more a couple of glitches which aren't too annoying.
There is no vital bug and there is nothing which can't be fixed with the next OS update.
The most annoying thing was actually that the i780 didn't come with any navigation/GPS software and apparently only Google Maps and Garmin XT mobile seem to work fine, the others(like Tom Tom 6 for example) require the tool GpsGate to work with the i780.
The i780 is VERY fast, not only the CPU but also the GPU. I actually started to love this little thing, it really is a stylish and pretty light powerhouse.
Right now, I think the i780 is the most powerful Windows Mobile 6 Professional smartphone on the market(considering CPU & GPU performance) and also the most underestimated device too. Battery life is decent too, build quality is impaccable. I just wish Samsung would have provided a 5MP camera and a quadband GSM/Triband UMTS functionality, especially since the new Marvell CPU seems to provide hardware support for both.
I have managed to get hold of an Italian version but need a UK ROM .... anyone managed to get hold of one?
Is there any other way to change the ROM to English?
Is this the one from ebay?
I should be getting mine in the next few days
Cant you like hard reset it same with HTC's and then select the language at the start?
Have you tried holding down 6 and the # key when you power the phone up..this should hard reset it....if its like other samsung win mobiles.
Yes from Ebay ... arrived next day .....
Have done a hard reset ... no joy.
Ahh thought so.....I was going to bid and then it ended.
Hmmm.....i would of thought all the roms are the same
Really lovely piece of kit though .... using it anyway .... crash course in Italian ! LOL
ha ha ha....
Theres gotta be a way to change the language ...hopefully someone will know.
Having had my Diamond for 2 weeks now, its made my life a living hell. Slow, freezes, very fiddly and so many calls go missed because of the g** screen system.
Will there be an upgrade for Orange customers as the htc site doesnt let me do it ?
Im seriously considering giving it back, currently the iphone puts it to shame imo and thats barebones really !
if your are french use DiamondStone 1.1 :
http://www.planete-htc.com/index.php?mod=forum&ac=voir&cat=169&id=15903
Or Wait some days until I release the DiamondStone v2 (post will be also on HTC Planete)
I had an Orange diamond and I had the exact same problems you describe. Thankfully now they are all history. I flashed a different ROM onto the handset. I would recommend you do the same. BE WARNED THOUGH. This will probably cancel out any warranty on the handset. All problems have now gone and I have the handset the Diamond always promised to be........

See this thread and my reply on Post #16. I did it last night, TouchFlo and browsing is a LOT better.
I and several others have contacted Orange directly. They keep saying that Orange DO NOT supply updates as "they did not write the software". (Orange traditionally have a very bad record of NOT supporting their handsets with newer vendor updates)
Of course, to make matters worse, HTC will not provide an Orange specific ROM either so if you want the enhancements offered, you WILL need to update the ROM yourself. I've not tried the other custom ROMs offered here - I'm sure they offer a lot of other advantages, but I just wanted to get the "Offical ROM" update working
http://http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=419093&page=2
There is a LOT of info on this site but sometimes with all of the other posts, it can be a bit confusing to understand. Basically in order to update I found that:
1) You MUST first update the phone with the right HardSPL (as per all the Guides on here). This WILL invalidate your warranty, unless you are able re-update your phone back to the original SPL (and ROM if you got that far) - should you need to send the thing in for warranty repair...
2) Certain ROM updates, including "Offical HTC" ones require that you use a certain SPL. To update my Orange UK with the HTC Rom, I used HardSPL 1.93.. and I loaded it using the DiamondCustomRUU that comes packaged with HardSPL 1.37 (again this is available by looking at the correct threads here)
3) To even get this HardSPL working it DID hard reset my phone, Internal Storage was left intact but the "on phone" data/applications/contacts etc were completely wiped - so make sure you back up all contacts, and write down settings (again, read the guides on what to backup)
4) Once HardSPL 1.93 was on the phone you can now load the new "Official ROM" (check the SPL version by soft resetting and holding the DOWN VOLUME key until you get the Tri-colour screen showing which version it is - you can then soft reset to get the phone back)
5) IF you update to HardSPL, you do NOT need to CID-Unlock you phone - if you're unsure what this means, again read the guides for more detailed explanations
6) You can use the RUU that comes with the Official HTC Rom package to then update your phone.. again follow ALL instructions from the Guides
7) Do NOT get impatient at any time and uplug cables, close apps etc. you could risk bricking your phone.. just follow instructions
THIS DOES WORK - at least it did for me... my diamond is even faster than ever now
I have the information that since a few days Orange France ships Diamond with 1.93 ROM and 1.00.25.05 Radio.
I'm in touch with someone who have this new ROM and I'm helping him dumping it
I think I might have the dump within a few hours (I'll tell you ) and will test it on my own Orange Diamond
If Orange (France or UK) do release an updated "Offical ROM", then that would be cool.. but Orange UK were certain they WOULD NOT be doing this..
To be honest, the HTC "Official ROM" works just fine and it doesn't come with all the Orange branded rubbish either The only issue is that you must invalidate your warranty to enjoy the benefits..
jms_uk,
i dont get it your on a developers website but you want to keep your phone
on a stock rom.
why.
the cooked roms are so much better and as you say you have allready invalidated your warranty.
I have a once Orange Diamond, now its official HTC 1.93 with unlocked Sim.
I would love to try out a cooked ROM as you suggest, but there are just so many ones on this site its completely confusing, I would like to ask which one is best, but dare not due to either having my post deleted, moved or flamed.

I'll admit that I'm quite happy with the improvements the official updated ROM gives, but as THUDUK has said, I wouldn't know where to start on picking a custom ROM that offers further improvements - so much choice
I've already spent a while trying to seach and get more information on what the various ROMS do, but as a lot of people have said there is no "best" ROM because it depends on what you're looking for..
At the moment I like TF3D as an interface, and the speed of it with the official/stock update is improved.. what other cool things could I benefit from with a custom ROM? Any and all suggestions gratefully welcomed!
*EDIT*
I stopped being a total n00b and found some proper details on both Dutty's and Panosha's Shine-On... some really nice tweaks in there, I can see why a lot of people prefer these custom ROMs. As I'm new to the whole game, and my phone is already improved with just the new Stock ROM - I'll play it safe for now, but I'm a bit clearer about things! Now if only someone could fix that damned HTC music player
Hey,
First post here but i have been hanging around for some time and been flashing new rom's on my htc touch diamond since the second week of having it. I was kind of lucky getting my diamond from orange (actually through carphone warehouse) but it was completely unbranded short of a small orange logo sticker on the case. I assume this is because it was one of the very first editions, i had the same issues untill i flashed with a cooked rom from these forums and the speed improvments were outstanding in comparison to what i had. I would highly recommend upgrading the rom yourself, as it looks unlikely we'll ever see a decent from rom orange. but make sure you do follow the instructions carefully. on top of that from my understanding (and ill fully admit if i am wrong) but because flashing the rom's are completely software based, if you had to return the phone, then i understand it is possible to remove everything you have done to it and restore it to its original state, i think i have seen the original orange uk rom on the forums somewhere. as i said im sorry if that is incorrect but if u can remove everything then returning the phone wont be an issue. as for what rom? no idea, i have tested all the wwe roms and have found the one i like, dutty's 1.6 lite i think it is.
anyway sorry for the babble, tend to wonder in my head lol. hope its of use.
Fraser
I think Orange UK messed up and a LOT of their Touch Diamonds have very little specific customisation except for the Orange branded back cover and the locked CID.. yet all the packaging and manuals show screenshots with Orange customisations in them
No bad thing if you don't want your phone to have all that bloat...
There are some nice things in the different roms, G-Sensor calibration and all that but for me, even with the newer Stock Official HTC ROM, its certainly better than it was out of the box..
Its a shame Orange don't do something about that, the customer reputation would be vastly improved and the improved performance on the handset with a better ROM might even win a few new customers who have been put off with negative press about the phone's UI performance..
You only have to read an a review in an "ignorant" magazine like T3 (read by a LOT of people unfortunately) to see the misconception... I'm sure the Diamond would've rated better had their staff been given a phone with newer/better ROMs on it

Hey too right, the only one single yet hugely annoying problem with my Diamond is the blasted music player skipping, gets better if you turn off your phone, but why should we have to do that
alphazeros rom fixes the media player problem so they say.
standard rom with speed increases.
havn't tried it my self as i use swiftbl's rom but it looks ok.
LoL, I was talking about the cover art main view. Its annoying that it only shows songs from your now playing instead of allowing you to actually select whole albums by cover art from this view
I am new to this on the diamond, so I have a pretty basic question. I have a NAM version diamond. When HTC came out with their new ROM last month or so, I contacted them and they said it was not designed for my phone and to wait and see if one is put out for the NAM version (has US 3g bands and no front cam). Will I run into any problems with installing cooked ROMs, etc that are available. I read the sticky on what to do first, and understand to do all the HardSPL, etc. Not exactly sure about the radio and actual ROMs that I would be able to use. Just want to make sure its compatible so that I have the least chance of bricking my phone. My last time customizing phones was with the razr v3i, and there were certain roms that could/could not be applied to the phone depending on if it the type of v3i. I know that I have the following specs:
ROM: 1.93.422.4 WWE
ROM Date: 08/13/08
Radio: 1.0025.08
Protocol version: 52.33a.25.17H
Wanted to get some input from others with the Diam 110 with US 3G version of the phone as see what they recommend, as well as others who can help out. Also, when I was modding the v3i, there were programs that could back up your current rom so that it was possible to flash it back if any problems occured. Is there anyway to do this with the diamond? If not, where can I find the stock HTC rom for the US 3G Diamond (haven't been able to find it here on xda). Thanks again for helping out a new guy.
any advice?
It's sad, but HTC has been unfair to us. First they remove the front camera from our phone and then they decided to just ignore the US 3G GSM diamond. They haven't even bothered to release even a single update for us. Very unprofessional behavior by HTC. I am seriously considering ASUS for my next phone.
But XDA is our heaven! once you have the hardspl, you are good to go. Use any GSM ROM on this forum and you should be OK. Don't forget to follow all the instructions mentioned in the sticky for flashing ROMS.
I didn't care to backup my original ROM as I had HTC elf before and was well aware of the ROMS available on XDA. However, I do recall getting a ROM installation CD in phone package. Check your package... you might have it too.
But, frankly, once you use custom ROM from here, you will not go back to HTC's ROM.
I'll echo what Ark said here, it sucks that they leave us (all 5 of us ) out in the cold with the unlocked NAM phones, but HardSPL will solve all of your problems.
I followed the instructions on flashing HardSPL and used the latest WWE ROM from HTC and it worked like a champ. It was actually the best thing I ever did with the Diamond, as the 2.03 ROMs are 100x faster and better than the stock ROM. I highly suggest taking the time and steps to flash it.
The only things that were different when I flashed the WWE HTC ROM was that Microsoft Voice Command was replaced by the Cybotron Voice Dialing application. Also, the region is set to the UK, which is easily changed. Also, if you're using AT&T here in the US, you have to install Advanced Config or make a change to the registry to enable HUSPA in Advanced Network.
Hope this helps.
I have HardSPL on my NAM Diamond, and have flashed literally dozens of cooked and stock ROMs with no issues whatsoever. Such a great phone with the cooked ROMs! I'm pretty sure I have seen threads about getting your phone back to its original state if you wish to. I would recommend searching around a bit and you should find some info.
Enjoy your flashing!
and.. what about the radio? is posible to update too? or you recomend to stay in the original radio version that came with the DIAM 110?
Thanks in advance.
Regards,
Everything works just as it would on the euro units.
I've messed around with different build of official htc roms on my NAM, and i went back to the factory 193 build (same as OP). The newer builds have damn near all of the animation taken out. It fixed some things, and messed up other things. WHY they would add slide to answer is beyond me.
Also, i've tried a million radios. Here in chicago, doesnt matter what radio i use. i get horrible reception with this thing. In my house, every phone i have, gets full 3G reception. With the diamond? it bounces between 2/3/4 bars.
Going somewhere with shakey reception? the Diamond gets even worse.
So, i stuck with the factory radio as well, because it gave the best battery life.
So, for me, flashing was pointless. I left it harspl'd though for when 6.5 comes out though.
Thanks everyone. Glad to see atleast a few others have the US version of the diamond. I guess the only think I have to do now is decide which rom to pick.
@aphexacid: my phone gets great reception so far. I've tried it out in Houston and New York for extended periods of time. Had a few more dropped calls in NYC, but I think that's a network thing more than the phone. Also, is there a way that you backed up your stock rom to flash it back, or is it available somewhere? I know it's not at HTC's website when I looked. Just want to have it in case I decide to go back to basics like you did.
I also have NAM 3G diamond (Rogers branded) w/ front cam
Should I try this rom?
RUU_Diamond_HTC_WWE-ME_2.03.456.2_Radio_Signed_Diamond_52.51.25.26_1.0 9.25.23_Ship
Just wanted to thank everyone for chiming in. Changed the rom last night, and thankfully everything went fine. If anyone has one they especially like, I'd like to hear about it. Still searching for the rom that would be ideal.
I've tried many ROMs here but always go back to Shaks.
Best performance and stability out there period.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=462455
Yeah I put on Macadam and it's pretty good. I was looking at Shak's as well. Maybe when I get bored i'll switch to see which I like better. It's a pain to get everything setup again so that phone is how you like it, but I guess that's the price for having such customized roms.
Dear Experts,
I have recently got an Preowned Unlocked - Vision/Desire Z, however prior to purchase I was said that its an HTC Desire Z, but one fine morning when I was trying to transfer some files via BT, the scanned resulted in HTC VISION. Well, I hope u can imagine my situation - Yes I was totally blank...
After that I googled alot for getting the correct configuration of my Handset but finally am posting it here for your advise.
Pl. somebody guide me How to check/ensure that what is the configuration of my phone. Ok let me tell you that I have tried Setting>About Phone>, it says software version is Android 2.2.1, buts its on showing the RAM CAPACITY.
Pl. guide.
Peace
Karan Adhikari
"Vision" is the HTC codename for the device. It was announced and sold in the USA as the "T-mobile G2" and sold everywhere else in the world as the "HTC Desire Z".
It is just one device. On the forums it is regularly referred to as the Vision because most mods/ROMs can be used on either the DZ or the G2, and there's no need to specify between the two.
Thank alot
Sir, Now as per your info, will it be ok if I assume & claim that mine is DZ ? What about when its scanned thru bluetooth, it says HTC Vision. How do I check its Ram & Internal Memory capacity?
Your Inputs are appreciated Sir.
Thanks once again.
Peace
Karan Adhikari

Yes your device is a Desire Z (Unless it has T-Mobile written above the screen instead of HTC)
For checking internal storage, you can go to settings, and select Storage from there, the total and available will be listed.
The Vision has 512mb of RAM, but some of that is taken up by the Android system/kernel, so you may see apps/settings reporting it as having a lot less total (mine shows 367mb)
You can find more info here
-Nipqer
I am Convinenced
Thanks Mr.Nipqer, yes there HTC embrossed on the Top of the screen & not TMobile.
Ok. Now are there any optimised Radio settings recommended as I shall be using it in India, so that it can save the Battery. I am on Vodafone's Network. Another thing Will you advise me to Update the ROM from the one stocked Froyo 2.2.1 to Gingerbird 2.3.3?
If yes then which ROM will be the BESTEST one? Will it effect the overall performance of by HTC DZ/Vision?
Finally, pl suggest some link where I can find a Layman's Tutorial to Flash it with an updated ROM.
Peace
Karan Adhikari
For Radios, I would only play with them if you have really poor battery or signal.
There is no answer for which is the 'best' radio, it really seems to be up to the phone itself.
Don't get the official update to gingerbread, as it makes it a bit harder to root.
For a rooting guide I recommend the XDA Wiki or if that seems a bit complex, use the Cyanogenmod Wiki
if you get stuck, jump into the #G2ROOT irc channel on freenode
For a rom, I'd recommend Cyangenmod, or if you want to stick with a sense rom, use Virtuous Sense
-Nipqer
Thanks alot
I thank you for all your information. Mr.Nipqer, will recall back if I am stucked somewhere.
Peace
Karan Adhikari
All Desire Z's are Visions, but not all Visions are Desire Z's
For a rom, I'd recommend Cyangenmod

have to disagree here, this ROM has a lot of issues, including GPS, wifi-calling, and too many other glitches
I have had great luck with the rmk G-lite ROM's, they are basically stock Gingerbread with mild overclocking and all of the fluff gotten rid of
these ROM have the best battery life of any ROM, and the main thing I like most about them is that they WORK WITHOUT ISSUES
Well each to their own.
I don't find I have any GPS issues with Cyanogenmod, and I never use wifi calling as I'm not in the states.
If you have GPS issues, maybe you should look into wiping your efs data?

So... after THIS happen to me I would like to discuss the following subject.
Before posting here, I hope you guys have shared your information HERE
Now... you have seen the list of the firmware customization numbers. So what does it means?? what are the firmware differences.
I have tested 2 of "ROMs" or 2 of this firmware customization from zxz0O0 post.
A.- 14.3.A.0.757 Generic UK 1279-4727
B.-14.3.A.0.757 Generic FR 1279-5365
Now personally I used A the first time since I was learning to root my phone...
then I used B since it was the original firmware customization that came with my phone.
My initial impression: The APPs are not the same (yeah, I don't really care about that... the less default the apps the faster the phone is)
The second one, is that with A my phone had always network and quite a good one, but with B my phone was struggling to get network signal...
Plus I had never seen LTE or 4g with B... then I screwed up my GSM/WCDMA connection and manage to see that I did actually get LTE connection. (I then managed to fix my GSM/WCDMA issue).
Bref , so how do we check the differences?? any ideas? mostly of the bands used and power used... or just of the complete firmware diferences?
