Recently I've noticed my wifi doesn't connect to any of my normal networks. When I check my wireless setttings, it'll say "connecting" but not to any specific network. Then just says disconnected. Finally, it'll say out of range for all my networks. I haven't done anything major with my phone, just small things like downloaded GO Launcher and played with icons and themes. Any ideas on what I can try or what it might be? Thanks.

I'm currently using the Tiamat-sbc kernel. But I'm pretty sure I haven't touched that kernel because it was working fine a while back. As for the router, it can't be a router problem. I have issues connecting to other networks as well. Should I clear my delvik cache?

I am having this very same problem. For the longest time I was sharing my internet connection from my iMac(mac acts as hot spot). But recently purchased a real wireless router. The problem is my phone connects for awhile then it quits working, it shows its still connected. But doesn't work. I am running Cyanogen mod 7 nightly latest with stock kernel. Anyone have a fix for this? I am thinking about re-flashing the radios.
Thank You
How soon does it disconnect immediately, screen off, after 5 mins, we need details in order to assist you

It is random. I could be browsing the internet and click on a link and it just sits there. Other times I could use it upwards of an hour without problems.
On the same network??? Sorry I'm just trying to help and get a gauge of the issue

The first wifi network I had it on was just my iMac acting as a hot spot and it had the problem. My new network has the same problem:
the iMac hot spot was an open network no security. The new network is WPA/WPA2 PSK.
Wired Router Cisco RVS4000
Wireless Router Cisco WRVS4400N
Modem Motorola SB6120 (same modem as last network)
I connect my phone to the wireless and open a page up it may or may not open it is completely random. My dads Nexus S 4G has no problems nor does his Kindle Fire.
please give me any details of what you need so that you can help me?
Thank You so very much for your assistance
Well I would recommend a full clean wipe everything except sdcard 3x put on a new Rom then let it settle but since I can't recreate the issue hard to say mayhaps a radio issue have you updated recently if so downgrade back to working radios

I had the same problem when I would use the CM7 nightly builds. My WIFI would work, all of a sudden, it just won't connect to any network. THEN...out of no where, it connects...a couple days later...The only way to fix is to use a stable build lol...I just remembered...try enabling airplane mode and then disable it again...

Hey guys, I asked this a couple of days ago but I don't think I've received any responses. Again I'm new to all this. I have a Rooted evo and I'm using the WiFi tether. It seems very slow when downloading pages. I'm currently using version 2.0.5 pre11 of the tether with a download speed of 4kbps and for uploading
I'm getting 5kbps is this normal? One more thing, is the Wifi tether supposed to be as strong as sprints hotspot app?
Sent from my PC36100 using XDA App
I've not had any troubles as far as download and upload speeds are concerned. Although it may seem like a dumb question do you get notably faster speeds on the phone itself?
This may be unrelated by I had a lot of trouble with android-wifi-tether using anything besides channel one. The main problem I'd have using any other channel is my computer would keep disconnecting from my phone. Like I said it's probably unrelated but it may be something to try.
Yes it does seem as if I get faster speeds on the phone, has anyone else noticed this yet. I think I'll try channel 1 to see if it makes a difference. Thanks for your response I appreciate it.

Try Caulkins USB tethering fix also try another version of wifi tethering or try pdanet. You need to try other options to help pinpoint what's wrong. Also are you actually tethering since 4kb is what it gives out when you first just turn the software on

Ive looked around but havent found any answers yet.
Ive been noticing with my Wifi it will switch to 3g for a minute or so and then back to Wifi. no sure whats causing this.
Is anyone else having this problem or has someone found a fix that im not aware of.
I take it you're running a sense ROM? More details would help. :X

sense ROM yes
I was able to unlock the bootloader via HTCDEV and flashed a 4.67.651.3 DEODEXED sense ROM posted by brad560 in the DEV forum.
still looking to see if anyone is having this issue.
My dad'sphone is totally stock, and he has been complaining about the wifi not working right. I'll mess with it and let you know if I find anything out

I've been reading about the same issue over at Android Central.
According to one post if you change the WiFi settings to use a static IP but leave the fields blank the problem should go away.
I haven't upgraded my ROM yet so I have not experienced it myself.

Wifi issues for me too
I also am experiencing the wifi dropping out for a few seconds. Luckily I had a backup I could reflash, but would love to know if there's a work around or a fix in the works.
Update : By changing the DHCP lease time on my router from forever to 48 hours, I do not experience the wi-fi drop issue anymore
its a known issue with the new update
Yeah, but at least there's a work around until they can get it fixed
Sent from my PC36100 using XDA
I've only found this to happen with Belkin Routers so far. But the work around does work.
Sent from my PC36100 using xda premium
It was happening on my Linksys (flashed to ddwrt), but the fix for the Belkin routers worked in this case too. Haven't tried it elsewhere, such as public hotspots, but 99% of my wifi use is at home.

So after flashing to AOKP, I realized my phone can't connect to wifi. I googled and found a thread suggesting to flash a different kernel. I flashed the franco.kernel-milestone4 kernel and still can't connect to wifi. I know it's not my router's issue since my netbook and nexus S can connect perfectly. Just wondering if you guys have any suggestions. Thanks!

Yea, I gave up on trying to fix it. Using CM9 rom now. I'm guessing this is a bug with the AOKP roms now?
Not that I've noticed.
WiFi works great.
I do think there was a build or two that broke connecting to invisible SSID's manually...but I believe it's fixed in B40.
I recently CWM flashed IMM30D over a Cyanogen 9 daily in an effort to get JB on my maguro. Everything works except WiFi. It attempts to connect, and just sits on "Obtaining IP address..." Patching with the JB OTA update doesn't fix the problem.
Can anybody else confirm this behavior?
Hey guys' hoping someone has an answer..... I'm with wind mobile in Canada on the gnex yakjuux galaxy nexus, I did the hack to change it to a yakjux and install jellybean 4.2.1 which I am currently still on.... I am having problems with my WiFi however and I have tried different radios and ROMs but I still get same issue...
I turn on WiFi and connect
I have strong WiFi for a good 5-10 minutes' then my WiFi stops working
Eventually the WiFi symbol grays out as well as my cell connection, so they are both gray
I reboot and they are back to normal

Flash stock yakju 4.2.1 official factory images.
It mostly will solve the problem.
4.2 is currently buggy.

This is just silly... This is supposed to be a highbred sought after phone because of updates and hardware producer... And there are threads upon threads of WiFi issues.. I got my phone and went straight to 4.2.1 does any one know if ICS and earlier jb builds had same problems... And whether it is sw or hw related..?
Edit : this may sound stupid on my behalf, but I rebooted router... I haven't had any drops at all yet...

Sorry for posting here as well as on my thread..but I am still looking for a solution ...
I tried many tricks without any success ... I wonder if it is related to the internet speed especially that while using my phone at work (extreme high speed connection) I have no problems at all - But at home with a regular high speed connection I have all the problems : can't open the play store stucked on loading, very slow browsing, network timed out ...etc.
Does anyone tried with a higher speed internet connection ? ... what speed are you getting on your phone when all these problems occured...
Thank you,
My wifi has similar issues. It will work for a random amount of time, then it actually kills my router (D-Link DIR615), requiring a power cycle of the router to get ANY internet working on ANY device...

I keep getting "Connection timed out" errors while trying to open Google Play Store on Sprint 3G in Manhattan.
I decided to run Speed Test app, and I'm seeing 83ms ping, 492 kbps download, and it's been sitting here waiting for upload the finish for the last 5 minutes. It's currently zero.
I'm also having issues with sending Gmail's, obviously because I have no upload capability.
Apart from the crappy Sprint 3G service (which is astounding in Midtown Manhattan), are there any other setting I should be looking at ?
I'm running Elemental X build 3 with KT747 5/29 kernel. Baseband MD4

Could be worse signal than ever due to tower upgrades on Vision Network. I hear NY is being worked on at this moment.

Seems like they're working on it big time. Well at least according to THIS map.
There's an issue when LTE is enabled and you go from LTE to 3G and something gets fouled up leaving the data borked until you cycle airplane mode or reboot. I've read if you keep it in 3G/EVDO mode, there aren't any issues.

The only roms with issues handling the transfer between 4g and 3g are AOSP roms. Touchwiz roms do not have this problem. But when Network Vision was being updated and brought online in my area I went through very similar issues. At times where I normally got good 3g, I was almost getting no connection.

Yes the signal gets all weird when they're working on an Update in an area. They are still working on it here in my area. Sometimes it will go to pot for most of the day. The upside is that they are working on it.

They are on an aosp build. Says they are running elemental x, which I thought was a varient of aosp, but I'm a noob to sgs3 so I could be wrong...
I am having a similar problem on aosp where I can't connect to the play store. It times out and it doesn't matter if I reboot the phone, turn off data, or cycle airplane mode. I can access the web fine and do other internet based stuff. TW Roms in the other hand work fine. I've updated my PRL and my profile. I'm up to date on my firmware (as far as I know..like I said, I'm a noob to the sgs3). Can't figure it out. ..
