[Q] Wifi issues with new 4.67.651.3 update - EVO 4G Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Ive looked around but havent found any answers yet.
Ive been noticing with my Wifi it will switch to 3g for a minute or so and then back to Wifi. no sure whats causing this.
Is anyone else having this problem or has someone found a fix that im not aware of.

I take it you're running a sense ROM? More details would help. :X

sense ROM yes
I was able to unlock the bootloader via HTCDEV and flashed a 4.67.651.3 DEODEXED sense ROM posted by brad560 in the DEV forum.
still looking to see if anyone is having this issue.

My dad'sphone is totally stock, and he has been complaining about the wifi not working right. I'll mess with it and let you know if I find anything out

I've been reading about the same issue over at Android Central.
According to one post if you change the WiFi settings to use a static IP but leave the fields blank the problem should go away.
I haven't upgraded my ROM yet so I have not experienced it myself.

Wifi issues for me too
I also am experiencing the wifi dropping out for a few seconds. Luckily I had a backup I could reflash, but would love to know if there's a work around or a fix in the works.

Update : By changing the DHCP lease time on my router from forever to 48 hours, I do not experience the wi-fi drop issue anymore

its a known issue with the new update

Yeah, but at least there's a work around until they can get it fixed

I've only found this to happen with Belkin Routers so far. But the work around does work.
Sent from my PC36100 using xda premium

It was happening on my Linksys (flashed to ddwrt), but the fix for the Belkin routers worked in this case too. Haven't tried it elsewhere, such as public hotspots, but 99% of my wifi use is at home.

Is there a fully working rooted 2.2 rom yet??

I've been flashing everyone's roms since Friday, but none have been fully working, mainly the wifi tether. I'm back on cyan nightlies for now. I was just wondering if any of you know if there is one out yet that is working 100%? Yes I've read and read and read, but you get lost and confused after going through 3000+/- posts on each forum. I appreciate any assistance.

In BakedSnack 1.0 WIFI tether is working with the included APK. I think the only issue is bluetooth which should be fixed in a day or so. Also, my battery is back to lasting 1-2 days intead of being decimated by CM6.
Awesome. Thanks for the info. I don't use Bluetooth anyways, so ill go read up on his some more.

camera is limited to 3mp as well in 1.0 but other than that, Hero is my Hero!!!
Yeah, I read that. Either sacrifice speed or camera. I started to download, but gonna wait and see what comes out or gets fixed today, crossing fingers.

Android Wifi tether

Hey guys, I asked this a couple of days ago but I don't think I've received any responses. Again I'm new to all this. I have a Rooted evo and I'm using the WiFi tether. It seems very slow when downloading pages. I'm currently using version 2.0.5 pre11 of the tether with a download speed of 4kbps and for uploading
I'm getting 5kbps is this normal? One more thing, is the Wifi tether supposed to be as strong as sprints hotspot app?
Sent from my PC36100 using XDA App
I've not had any troubles as far as download and upload speeds are concerned. Although it may seem like a dumb question do you get notably faster speeds on the phone itself?
This may be unrelated by I had a lot of trouble with android-wifi-tether using anything besides channel one. The main problem I'd have using any other channel is my computer would keep disconnecting from my phone. Like I said it's probably unrelated but it may be something to try.
Yes it does seem as if I get faster speeds on the phone, has anyone else noticed this yet. I think I'll try channel 1 to see if it makes a difference. Thanks for your response I appreciate it.

Try Caulkins USB tethering fix also try another version of wifi tethering or try pdanet. You need to try other options to help pinpoint what's wrong. Also are you actually tethering since 4kb is what it gives out when you first just turn the software on

Wifi stopped working. Suggestions?

Recently I've noticed my wifi doesn't connect to any of my normal networks. When I check my wireless setttings, it'll say "connecting" but not to any specific network. Then just says disconnected. Finally, it'll say out of range for all my networks. I haven't done anything major with my phone, just small things like downloaded GO Launcher and played with icons and themes. Any ideas on what I can try or what it might be? Thanks.

Are you using any kernels? Have you resented your router?

I'm currently using the Tiamat-sbc kernel. But I'm pretty sure I haven't touched that kernel because it was working fine a while back. As for the router, it can't be a router problem. I have issues connecting to other networks as well. Should I clear my delvik cache?

I am having this very same problem. For the longest time I was sharing my internet connection from my iMac(mac acts as hot spot). But recently purchased a real wireless router. The problem is my phone connects for awhile then it quits working, it shows its still connected. But doesn't work. I am running Cyanogen mod 7 nightly latest with stock kernel. Anyone have a fix for this? I am thinking about re-flashing the radios.
Thank You
How soon does it disconnect immediately, screen off, after 5 mins, we need details in order to assist you

It is random. I could be browsing the internet and click on a link and it just sits there. Other times I could use it upwards of an hour without problems.
On the same network??? Sorry I'm just trying to help and get a gauge of the issue

The first wifi network I had it on was just my iMac acting as a hot spot and it had the problem. My new network has the same problem:
the iMac hot spot was an open network no security. The new network is WPA/WPA2 PSK.
Wired Router Cisco RVS4000
Wireless Router Cisco WRVS4400N
Modem Motorola SB6120 (same modem as last network)
I connect my phone to the wireless and open a page up it may or may not open it is completely random. My dads Nexus S 4G has no problems nor does his Kindle Fire.
please give me any details of what you need so that you can help me?
Thank You so very much for your assistance
Well I would recommend a full clean wipe everything except sdcard 3x put on a new Rom then let it settle but since I can't recreate the issue hard to say mayhaps a radio issue have you updated recently if so downgrade back to working radios

I had the same problem when I would use the CM7 nightly builds. My WIFI would work, all of a sudden, it just won't connect to any network. THEN...out of no where, it connects...a couple days later...The only way to fix is to use a stable build lol...I just remembered...try enabling airplane mode and then disable it again...

Radio Issues

I am experiencing issues registering on the network. I have tried half a dozen radios, but the problem persists. It is not specific to a ROM. I am currently running Darkside Evolution 3, but I have experienced the same problem on CM9, Slim, and Black. Currently, I am using the stock UVLE1 radio I downloaded from here shortly after the official ICS release, and I have had marginally better luck with it. When my phone boots up, it shows no service or searching. When I go to the mobile networks menu and select T-Mobile or automatic, I get an unable to register on network error. Same for when I run the USSD code for automatic network selection. I have tried replacing the SIM card. I have no problem at all with wifi calling when I'm using a ROM that supports it. No matter how long I keep my phone searching, it will never register. If I continually power cycle, eventually (sometimes after 5-10 attempts), it will register, and I will have no further problems until the next time I have to power cycle. This did not occur until immediatelt after the first time I updated to an ICS ROM, so I do not believe it is the device itself. I have also noticed that there is a higher probability of registering if I turn off wifi before I power cycle, but it still can take a few attempts. Is this something everyone is experiencing? Does anyone have any advice or a fix? Thanks in advance.

OK, so I admit that I accidentally selected the wrong thread, but I have searched and found no answers. I checked stickies first, gave a detailed explanation of the problem and what I have tried. I have read through forums for over a month and only seen one other person with this problem and no solution was offered to them. Does anyone have anything other than an elitist attitude to offer?

Evo 4g wifi won't connect.

Hey guys,
I'm using a EVO 4g with the Energy rom with Underworld kernel the problem is the wifi. It connect then disconnects right away. I've tried several fixes from here on the forum such as making sure wireless sleep policy was sent to never. I've flashed the kernel using the mount data trick and nothing works. If you guys know any fixes to help I'm willing to try. This is the first rom I really enjoy. Thanks.
Edit: Found out it wasn't just that rom. I think I saw somewhere to flash radios. Any advice?

Thus was your first rom you flashed on your phone? I was taught to update radios and wimax. Not sure where you would get that, but definitely stay in 4g threads. I'm going through the same thing I need to update mine & can't find a link...hmmm you find it let me know!
