Hey guys, I asked this a couple of days ago but I don't think I've received any responses. Again I'm new to all this. I have a Rooted evo and I'm using the WiFi tether. It seems very slow when downloading pages. I'm currently using version 2.0.5 pre11 of the tether with a download speed of 4kbps and for uploading
I'm getting 5kbps is this normal? One more thing, is the Wifi tether supposed to be as strong as sprints hotspot app?

I've not had any troubles as far as download and upload speeds are concerned. Although it may seem like a dumb question do you get notably faster speeds on the phone itself?
This may be unrelated by I had a lot of trouble with android-wifi-tether using anything besides channel one. The main problem I'd have using any other channel is my computer would keep disconnecting from my phone. Like I said it's probably unrelated but it may be something to try.
Yes it does seem as if I get faster speeds on the phone, has anyone else noticed this yet. I think I'll try channel 1 to see if it makes a difference. Thanks for your response I appreciate it.

Try Caulkins USB tethering fix also try another version of wifi tethering or try pdanet. You need to try other options to help pinpoint what's wrong. Also are you actually tethering since 4kb is what it gives out when you first just turn the software on

well i press on it and it just says it started but then it says error show log. it just shows that it failed. please help
What app are you using to tether?
Also.. what version of tether are you using? I had best luck with 2.05 if you can find it.
Honestly, wireless tether has been spazzmodic lately; I suggest using the built in hotspot...works just as nice.
the wireless tether app, and when i press it , it just says error. help :/

Yep still on MIUI. I average about 1.5Mbps down. No 4G but my 3G speeds are so good that I could care less about 4G. Also, MIUI has built in tethering that works splendidly.
If you can try another rom such as miui for instance like others have stated, you'll find you have better luck with tethering using the built in hotspot. I struggled with wireless tether as well but that 2.05 rc1 version i think it was worked good for me. some more info on your part like what rom, version of tether etc your using would help
downloading miui as we speak hehe

Been using cm7 for a week or so now. The wimax has better signal and speed than ANY sense rom I have ever used. But why? Just trying to understand the reasons.
Sent from my Evo using XDA App.
Beats me. But I get better Wimax with CM7 too. Thanks Cyanogen!
really? mine is a lot worse - it drops off 4G frequently and Wifi tethering doesn't work properly for me... Have either of you done tethering?
I have never tried to tether using 4g. I'm happy tethering 3g.

thank you! I'm going to try this out... I prefer CM but tethering is of #1 importance to me
The built in tethering works best for me. It's awesome.

No problem. If you have any questions or issues, just reply there.
Recently I've noticed my wifi doesn't connect to any of my normal networks. When I check my wireless setttings, it'll say "connecting" but not to any specific network. Then just says disconnected. Finally, it'll say out of range for all my networks. I haven't done anything major with my phone, just small things like downloaded GO Launcher and played with icons and themes. Any ideas on what I can try or what it might be? Thanks.

Are you using any kernels? Have you resented your router?

I'm currently using the Tiamat-sbc kernel. But I'm pretty sure I haven't touched that kernel because it was working fine a while back. As for the router, it can't be a router problem. I have issues connecting to other networks as well. Should I clear my delvik cache?

I am having this very same problem. For the longest time I was sharing my internet connection from my iMac(mac acts as hot spot). But recently purchased a real wireless router. The problem is my phone connects for awhile then it quits working, it shows its still connected. But doesn't work. I am running Cyanogen mod 7 nightly latest with stock kernel. Anyone have a fix for this? I am thinking about re-flashing the radios.
Thank You
How soon does it disconnect immediately, screen off, after 5 mins, we need details in order to assist you

It is random. I could be browsing the internet and click on a link and it just sits there. Other times I could use it upwards of an hour without problems.
On the same network??? Sorry I'm just trying to help and get a gauge of the issue

The first wifi network I had it on was just my iMac acting as a hot spot and it had the problem. My new network has the same problem:
the iMac hot spot was an open network no security. The new network is WPA/WPA2 PSK.
Wired Router Cisco RVS4000
Wireless Router Cisco WRVS4400N
Modem Motorola SB6120 (same modem as last network)
I connect my phone to the wireless and open a page up it may or may not open it is completely random. My dads Nexus S 4G has no problems nor does his Kindle Fire.
please give me any details of what you need so that you can help me?
Thank You so very much for your assistance
Well I would recommend a full clean wipe everything except sdcard 3x put on a new Rom then let it settle but since I can't recreate the issue hard to say mayhaps a radio issue have you updated recently if so downgrade back to working radios

I had the same problem when I would use the CM7 nightly builds. My WIFI would work, all of a sudden, it just won't connect to any network. THEN...out of no where, it connects...a couple days later...The only way to fix is to use a stable build lol...I just remembered...try enabling airplane mode and then disable it again...

Ive looked around but havent found any answers yet.
Ive been noticing with my Wifi it will switch to 3g for a minute or so and then back to Wifi. no sure whats causing this.
Is anyone else having this problem or has someone found a fix that im not aware of.
I take it you're running a sense ROM? More details would help. :X
Sent from my OG Evo 4G via XDA app. Did I mention from inside my pocket?
sense ROM yes
I was able to unlock the bootloader via HTCDEV and flashed a 4.67.651.3 DEODEXED sense ROM posted by brad560 in the DEV forum.
still looking to see if anyone is having this issue.
My dad'sphone is totally stock, and he has been complaining about the wifi not working right. I'll mess with it and let you know if I find anything out

I've been reading about the same issue over at Android Central.
According to one post if you change the WiFi settings to use a static IP but leave the fields blank the problem should go away.
I haven't upgraded my ROM yet so I have not experienced it myself.

Im having issues with my wifi also, n I dont no if its because of this new update.. I also updated the radio n pri. Does anyone else have this problem?

Wifi issues for me too
I also am experiencing the wifi dropping out for a few seconds. Luckily I had a backup I could reflash, but would love to know if there's a work around or a fix in the works.
Update : By changing the DHCP lease time on my router from forever to 48 hours, I do not experience the wi-fi drop issue anymore
its a known issue with the new update
Yeah, but at least there's a work around until they can get it fixed
Sent from my PC36100 using XDA
I've only found this to happen with Belkin Routers so far. But the work around does work.
Sent from my PC36100 using xda premium
It was happening on my Linksys (flashed to ddwrt), but the fix for the Belkin routers worked in this case too. Haven't tried it elsewhere, such as public hotspots, but 99% of my wifi use is at home.

I am running kernalpanic's rom for the Nirto HD and it is great! I was wondering if anyone knows how to fix the wifi tether so is does not alert ATT that I am using it?
Thanks,
I've heard of a couple of ways to do it, but never really seen solid instructions. I'm using a USB tether setup that is supposed to be unseen by AT&T.
What one do you use? I have tried a couple but was not to impressed...
I'm using ClockWorkMod Tether. The link below will give you all you need for it. It's a USB tether only though.
http://www.androidauthority.com/tether-android-phone-computer-pc-mac-avoid-detection-44243/
edit: I forgot to say that it is a free install, but you are limited to a daily usage amount. I paid the $4.99 in-app donation to gain full access with unlimited usage. I felt it was worth it for my situation.
Ok, I will give it a try. Thanks!! I hope there is a CyanogenMod rom soon for this phone...!!!
I have just posted instructions on how to enable the built in tethering in the phone.

Thanks though!!
