Tried installing a mod thru metamorph to put a background for the softkeys. Instead it DELETED the status bar and the soft keys. Now all that shows on the screen is the normal homescreen extended all the way past where the softkeys would be. Please tell me there's a fix for this.
*EDIT* I've wiped and installed a new rom. Still no dice.
COME ON ANYBODY!!!!!???????
Had the same problem after installing another ROM.
Restoring my backup solved the problem for me.

Sorry to bump this thread up!
But now i've got the same problem..
I'm running Jellybean 4.2.1 stock but recently rooted using the Gnex Toolkit (which is the eadiest thing!).
I've downloaded Rom Toolbox Pro via the Play Store and was checking out the possibilities of the app.
I saw the option to change the dpi from 320 to 240 at first, wich always looked nice on screenshots and such.
Then i was looking at the Theme Manager where i can change the status bar from stock to transparent and installed it in app.
After rebooting, suddenly my Status bar and my softkeys are gone...
After using the device without the back and home buttons, i did some research on it and found out my device needs to be deodexed before wanting to do it safe?!
I got no backups made, as stupid as i am, and tried installing all sorts of themes for the status bar..
The most obvious option to me is to wipe dalvik cache since that was said all over the internet.
I could really use some help on this, since i dont want to backup my pictures and music because im scared that when i do a wipe, all my data is lost -.-
I might sound stupid, but if there isnt any other option, i might install a different rom.

Since you're using the stock, you might want to try install the system.IMG you've downloaded via fastboot, wipe cache and dalvik via CWM (Assuming you have CWM installed), the same thing happen to me while installing mods, flashing system.img on top fixed it for me. The other solution is to flash another ROM, you might want to backup your apps via TB in case of both fails
EDIT: This is assuming than you've flashed to stock 4.2.1 via fastboot/toolkit, the easiest method to fix this by far is installing a ROM .zip in CWM, but if you want to stay stock for some reason you may want to try following EF Rant's return to stock guide and flashing everything BUT the userdata.img, instead you would have to boot CWM and then wiping cache/dalvik, or if it still doesn't boot, factory reset. It won't touch your picture and music, but back it up regardless to be safe.
Nav bar + status bar is related to SystemUI.apk, most likely the mod did not install properly, reflash the ROM zip.
Thanks guys for the quick repy!
Isn't there any way to reinstall the systemui.apk? I've tried clicking on it so it installs the apk but didnt work.
@reysonance: im gonna try the Factory Reset option. ill post an update as soon as i did the reset.
The only reason for me to root the device was so i could use the USB OTG option so i can place music on my carradio's usb using a file manager.
I dont know if i have clockwork mod on it, ill check it out tonight.
Thanks again!

Thank god the factory reset option worked for me! A huge thanks for this, reysonance!!!
Now i need to reinstall all my apps .. sigh .. but anyhow i can use my device again as it normally did

Hi guys,
I'm running leedroid 2.3a and want to update to version d.but when I do then of course all my apps and data are lost.I know that titanium backup can restore apps and a few other things but it won't help when the data is stored on the read only file system.also I have things like the carbon theme and the power bar mod installed which I don't want to reinstall.
Is there a way to modify my current nand backup of my rom so that it had the changes of the newsy leedroid version? Or is there maybe another way of doing it?
Pushing this thread...i know that there is a way of pre-updating roms.please help me :/
If you don't want to flash the theme again you can't update. Apps will stay if you flash without fully wiping.(only cache and dalvik)

Ahh I see.when I'm back from work I will immediately try.its not a big deal reflashing the theme.
Thank you for your help!
worked gracefully! thank you!
quite an easy solution (as there wasnt a problem in the first place )
i could even successfully reflash the theme, power bar mod and battery circle mod all in one!

Okay, So i have root, i follow all the steps required and I get Starburst installed and booted. I then get that my status bar is Force Closing. I do some looking and see this:
My status bar is force closing, what do I do?
Go into clockwork mod, go under mounts and storage and format system
I do this and it completely messes up everything. It says it completes fine but when i go to reboot it gets stuck on the bootup screen. Then when i go to do anything else the menu is now blue and nothing works. I have to reinstall the kernel to get root access via Odin3 v1.85 to get it to respond again. I can then reinstall the Starburst but get same errors or I can do a Restore and it works fine. It seems like the FC answer of "format system" completely breaks everything. Any suggestions/help?

Did you flash the ROM after you formatted the system? You format then flash, not the other way around.
Sent from the future.
I did this.
1.) Get Root
2.) Boot into CWMR, made a backup (thank god)
3.) Wipe Data/Factor Reset
4.) Wipe Cache
5.) Wipe Dalvik Cache
6.) Install Starburst
7.) Format /system
Should i have format /system then install Starburst basically inverting 6 and 7? I installed Starburst and booted and it worked minus the Status Bar FC's and then I checked here and it said to Format /system so I figured I should have done that after installing it but now it sounds like I was an idiot thinking that. I'm new to all this as my OG Droid ran stock.
Yeah, format then flash. Its basically deleting what you flashed

Ok so I have kind of a strange problem and i dont think its with cwm. I always make nandroid backups before flashing new roms as a precaution but in this case it did no good I recently installed Paranoid Android on my phone to try out Jelly Bean. It is pretty awesome But it is a little buggy with a few of the apps i like to run (rom toolbox and dropbox being the major ones). After restoring all my apps i decided to restore my messaging data. That caused the rom to not boot past the google screen. So I decided to go back to Black Ice AOKP with my backup. Didnt work, gave me the "error while restoring /data!". I also just recently updated to CWM Touch 6.0.0.5. I also tried an earlier backup with the same problem. I decided to use fastboot to flash a different CWM (5.8.*.* touch and regular) and basically has the same issue just a different response (could not find data.img, cache.img, and boot.img). Because i use Titanium backup anyway i decided to just wipe and flash Black Ice but when i do it boots for about 30 seconds and then the phone restarts. I tried this multiple times doing multiple formats to no avail. Just for sh*ts i decided to try to wipe and reinstall Paranoid Android. IT BOOTED!! But the weird thing is is that all my apps were still there including my messaging data that borked the install to begin with :/ Anyway to make a long story short, my phone is now working but im afraid that i can't restore my backup or even install a new rom without issues. It seems that CWM will not properly wipe my phone anymore. I am wondering what this new rom could have installed that would cause these issues? I didnt flash any new radios or bootloaders so i dont think that is an issue. Please help!! lol I would like to go back until this rom gets further development or AOKP goes to JB. Any help is appreciated. Thank you for your time
-Erik
I really don't think the ROM caused your recovery to not work correctly. Have you tried a different recovery, like TWRP?
Oh, and any problems you're having with apps on Paranoid can be easily fixed by changing what mode they display in via Paranoid Settings.
shode, ndomeopu
Thanks For The Quick Replies! My Swype Has Decided Too Capitalize Every Word And I'm Not Going Too Fix It Lol.. Anyway I've Tried Changing Modes With Rom ToolboxAnd It Made No Difference. i Will Try With Drop Box. It Seems Like Maybe This New Rom Messed With The Permissions And That's Why i Can't Properly Format? The Thing Is Is That CWM Worked Fine Before Booting This Rom. And i definitely Understand That My Conclusions Don't Make Sense But Neither Does The Problem Lol. i Guess What My Question Is Is Why Do The Previous Versions Off cwm That Worked Before Not Work Now? i Will Give The Other Recovery a Shot And Let You Know But i Prefer cwm Just Because It's What i Know And Had Always Worked... Until Now Of Course. Also i Don't Consider Myself anewbie At Thus Stuff But i Am Definitely No dev Lol. Any Suggestion Is Welcome. Thanks!

Silly Me For Not Thinking Of Changing The Settings. dropBox Now Works But My Swype Is Still Messed Up
Swype works fine for me at 320 dpi and phone mode. Which is the Gnex's default settings so if an app gives you issues try those settings. I'm not too sure about CWM, it's been a while since I've used it. If you want to try TWRP the easiest way is to just install Goo Manager and go to Flash ROMs and in the additional options select Flash Open Recovery Script.
well swype in general worked.. maybe its just my browser. Anyway I installed TWRP, makes me wonder why I wanted to keep CWM It worked.. im back to the old rom. Quick question.. does it save the backups to /sdcard like CWM? I thought it said it backed up to /data/media which means if i completely wipe /data ill lose my backups. Also does this mean I dont have as much space for backups? Thanks for your help.

/sdcard and /data/media are the same thing. I'm sure there's a better technical explanation but I think it's symlinked or something. So wiping data or factory reset in recovery will not wipe your SD contents. From within the ROM it might.

i ve formated system just to be on the safe side ,you dont lose anything if you do,
anyway may i ask you?if i delete kernel tuner will all the options go to deafult? eg. it has enabled only one core if i delete it will the two cores be enabled or the one will stay disabled forever?
No idea. I didn't like kernel tuner, it seemed rubbish to do anything with so i made sure both cores were active then uninstalled it

Same here, didn't like kernel tuner. Make sure u have the proper settings before you uninstall it. At least the clock frequency stays the same as set by kernel tuner. Other features I don't know whether it stays or gets reset.

Installing Nova RC2
The Nova rom uses Aroma installer which actually very easy to use. There is an option at the beginning of the installation that asks if you want to wipe everything and I have tried it and worked fine.
Can anyone help me?
My Xperia S will not turn on. Some problems like no speaker output (but earphones worked and speaker worked in calls, although quiet...) prompted me to change roms. I successfully flashed numerous roms.
I am in no way blaming the creator for this rom, however can someone please help me? The second to last rom I installed and reinstalled was this rom. It worked well but did not solve the audio problem. I went back to stock... it was nearly dead (battery). Now it won't turn on. I only have the usb cable, no wall charger, but I've charged for hours... tried flashtool, emma, sus, a repair shop, etc, etc.
I am not familiar with opening up hardware. My receipt is 3000km away. Is there anything I can do? I never dropped it hard... One time with the case on and protector, like 2.5 feet. It was fine though. If I send it to Sony Mobile (Canada), how much will they charge?
I've posted numerous posts with zero replies. Anyways, thanks.

Nova Rom doesn't really exist anymore. Instead there is a compile of CM10 and a Nova Tweaks pack that you can download and flash from http://goo.im/devs/hei1125
Hey everybody, im planning on going to AOKP soon and i wanted to confirm with you that im doing everything right.
My phone's current status is:
- Samsung Galaxy SIII (AT&T) running nova launcher prime
- Stock Android Version: 4.04 stock with most of the bloatware uninstalled
- Build number: IMM76D.I747UCLG1
-i am rooted and use SuperSu (Superuser is there too but its not the primary)
-should i/how do i back up my imei? I heard people have had theirs getting corrupted.
1.Download AOKP task 650 rom from here http://forum.xdadevelopers.com/showthread.php?t=1766684
2. Download Gapps from same link above
2.5 Download Underwear Kernel from same link above (then drop it all in root of phone)
3.Do a Nandroid backup (I think i already did this in the rom manager app. Do i have to do it again by going into recovery mode? Or is it just two ways of doing the same thing?)
4.Boot into CWM recovery
5.Wipe data/factory reset,
6.wipe cache and wipe dalvik cache,
7.go to mounts & storage and format system.
8.Flash ROM
9. Flash Underwear Kernel
10.Flash Gapps

This is the best help I could find for backing up the IMEI, but I've NEVER had an issue with it and I flash ROMs all of the time.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1946915
1.First off, it is http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1766684 and yes. That is correct.
2. Correct
2.5 You don't need to, it is already packed inside the ROM.
3. I always do a Nandroid within Recovery. I didn't know you could do it anywhere else.
4.Yes
5.Yes
6. Yes
7.Yes
8.Yes
9. No, Kernel is already flashed from inside the ROM package.
10.Yes
11.Yes
12. No
Here are my steps. First I am rooted on 4.0.4. Then I download goomanager from the android market. Open goo and hit the menu button and install open recovery script. This will install twrp recovery. Then I reboot into recovery and wipe data/factory reset and clear cache. Next I make a full back up in twrp. After that I reboot the phone and back up the imei with nv backup and peoples army method. I did both because im paranoid. Copy your files to your storage. Next I go back into twrp and wipe again, flash the latest work from task. The underwear kernal is included. Last flash gapps. Reboot and feel pimp!

Thanks for your help. Final Question: I noticed that Tibu has a option to turn all of my backed up apps into a update.zip. Can i just do that and use it to restore my apps in the recovery menu once im done? Or do i have to do it the long way through the Tibu app?
Or should i do it another way?

you can use the paid tibu to batch backup your apps in a flashable zip, yes.
do NOT include system apps/data in this backup. you will only have problems if you do.
I don't recommend that. Last time I tried that, it corrupted the app data, so I had to restore the normal way with TiBu. It might be better now, but just the issues I have ran into.

i dont know about your notification bar. maybe someone running tasks 4.2.2 can weigh in.
to take a screenshot, hold vol down + power buttons together
unless task has landscape mode built into the ROM control settings, you'll have to use a launcher like Nova to enable that

Notification bar might need a reboot to take effect once you set it to 100%. Also, try setting it to 0% and back to 100%.
Nova is the main launcher with Task's AOKP, go through the settings if you want your homescreen in landscape. Also, you can just use the auto-rotate feature (in the pulldown menu).

To get the black bar back at all times go into settings->ROM Control-> General UI->Transparency settings. Uncheck "Match lockscreen alpha" and turn them both to 100%. This will give you a black status bar and will stay consistent.
With the screenshots, voldown/power button. Sometimes you have to hold them for like 1.5 seconds to get it to work.
