[Q] Manual update for leedroid? - Desire Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hi guys,
I'm running leedroid 2.3a and want to update to version d.but when I do then of course all my apps and data are lost.I know that titanium backup can restore apps and a few other things but it won't help when the data is stored on the read only file system.also I have things like the carbon theme and the power bar mod installed which I don't want to reinstall.
Is there a way to modify my current nand backup of my rom so that it had the changes of the newsy leedroid version? Or is there maybe another way of doing it?

Pushing this thread...i know that there is a way of pre-updating roms.please help me :/

If you don't want to flash the theme again you can't update. Apps will stay if you flash without fully wiping.(only cache and dalvik)
Sent from my HTC Desire using XDA App

Ahh I see.when I'm back from work I will immediately try.its not a big deal reflashing the theme.
Thank you for your help!

worked gracefully! thank you!
quite an easy solution (as there wasnt a problem in the first place )
i could even successfully reflash the theme, power bar mod and battery circle mod all in one!

[Q] Flashing themes to Revolution HD ROM

Hi,
I rooted my DHD and flashed Revolution HD (2.1) ROM yesterday for the first time!! This site helped massively so thanks to all the devs and posters for the information!! I do have a couple of questions though, please excuse me if these are a bit obvious but until yesterday i had no idea how to even root it!
So i flashed the ROM and rooted fine, then i flashed a custom theme as well from clockwork mod recovery (installed from zip on sdcard). If i want to change the theme to a different custom one do i have to flash it from CWM recovery or can i do it directly from the CWM app??
Also if i now flash a different custom theme will all my user data (apps, settings, media etc.) be preserved?
Basically i like to change my theme quite often but if im going to loose my data everytime then ill have to pick more carefully!
Thanks in advance for your help and thanks again to all the devs and posters for making my DHD even better!!

Welcome on board ARHD user
You flash theme from CWM. Changing themes means giving new look to your phone, so unfortunately you ll have to personalize everything once again. Flashing themes would not remove your data but only your personalized home screen. You can however try mybackup and see if that helps you restore your settings.
Thanks for the reply!! Just flashed a new theme (revolution) and loving it.
One more question though, im trying to flash a different boot screen and animated framework to the theme but its not working
Im putting the zip on my sd card and flashing via CWM as i did with the theme but its not applying for some reason, is there something im missing?? Both the bootscreen and framework are made for the theme by the way!
Thanks

have you replaced the bootanimation.zip file? i do not know if you need to flash the bootanimation. I have flashed splashscreen but not the bootanimation so i do not exactly know. But i m sure if you replace bootanimation.zip file in /system folder it would work.
Thanks again for the reply. For some reason i went back to recovery 2.5.1.3 to flash something else and just tried the boot animation just in case it made a difference and its all working fine now!!
Cheers
Im having the same problem, Im running DHD Revolution Gingerbread beta 3.1 and the boot animations never work. Even if I do replace the bootanimation.zip file. Changed permissions to the zip file too.
Seems there is a difference in opinion on which bootanimation file to replace. I replaced the one in system/customize/resource.
Any ideas?
Gingerbread works completely differently i think. There is script that also needs to be modified to change the boot animation, i dont know what or where im afraid!
I was on gingerbread for a few days (i think it was mike's second beta) and didnt like it much, so im back on froyo leedroid for now. Might change when there is a few more themes about, bugs are all sorted and custom kernels are available!!

Status bar and softkeys missing help!!!!!

Tried installing a mod thru metamorph to put a background for the softkeys. Instead it DELETED the status bar and the soft keys. Now all that shows on the screen is the normal homescreen extended all the way past where the softkeys would be. Please tell me there's a fix for this.
*EDIT* I've wiped and installed a new rom. Still no dice.
COME ON ANYBODY!!!!!???????
Had the same problem after installing another ROM.
Restoring my backup solved the problem for me.

Sorry to bump this thread up!
But now i've got the same problem..
I'm running Jellybean 4.2.1 stock but recently rooted using the Gnex Toolkit (which is the eadiest thing!).
I've downloaded Rom Toolbox Pro via the Play Store and was checking out the possibilities of the app.
I saw the option to change the dpi from 320 to 240 at first, wich always looked nice on screenshots and such.
Then i was looking at the Theme Manager where i can change the status bar from stock to transparent and installed it in app.
After rebooting, suddenly my Status bar and my softkeys are gone...
After using the device without the back and home buttons, i did some research on it and found out my device needs to be deodexed before wanting to do it safe?!
I got no backups made, as stupid as i am, and tried installing all sorts of themes for the status bar..
The most obvious option to me is to wipe dalvik cache since that was said all over the internet.
I could really use some help on this, since i dont want to backup my pictures and music because im scared that when i do a wipe, all my data is lost -.-
I might sound stupid, but if there isnt any other option, i might install a different rom.

Since you're using the stock, you might want to try install the system.IMG you've downloaded via fastboot, wipe cache and dalvik via CWM (Assuming you have CWM installed), the same thing happen to me while installing mods, flashing system.img on top fixed it for me. The other solution is to flash another ROM, you might want to backup your apps via TB in case of both fails
EDIT: This is assuming than you've flashed to stock 4.2.1 via fastboot/toolkit, the easiest method to fix this by far is installing a ROM .zip in CWM, but if you want to stay stock for some reason you may want to try following EF Rant's return to stock guide and flashing everything BUT the userdata.img, instead you would have to boot CWM and then wiping cache/dalvik, or if it still doesn't boot, factory reset. It won't touch your picture and music, but back it up regardless to be safe.
Nav bar + status bar is related to SystemUI.apk, most likely the mod did not install properly, reflash the ROM zip.
Thanks guys for the quick repy!
Isn't there any way to reinstall the systemui.apk? I've tried clicking on it so it installs the apk but didnt work.
@reysonance: im gonna try the Factory Reset option. ill post an update as soon as i did the reset.
The only reason for me to root the device was so i could use the USB OTG option so i can place music on my carradio's usb using a file manager.
I dont know if i have clockwork mod on it, ill check it out tonight.
Thanks again!
---------- Post added at 09:27 PM ---------- Previous post was at 08:52 PM ----------
Thank god the factory reset option worked for me! A huge thanks for this, reysonance!!!
Now i need to reinstall all my apps .. sigh .. but anyhow i can use my device again as it normally did
Thank you, This thread my be closed as far as my concern

[Q] ARhd the New update

happy to see arhd got an update the other day,,,
Just trying to make up my mind if I should flash it.
anyone tried it and noticed any improvement ?
also I understand I don't need to superwipe going from 7.0.4 to 7.1 ,,
my question is can I just place the new update on my sd card and flash it straight away or do I need to do anything like clear caches etc etc ?
also should I make a titanium backup or will flashing it over the old version keep all my old settings, apps etc etc.
Thanks for any help.
I usually put the update on the sdcard and flash it over. Apps and setting are intact except for some eventually system settings included in the update. But if you want to be safe make a backup before flashing the update.
Thank you

theres something problem with the aroma.......mike fixed it and will be releasing 7.2 tom............
so just do the dirty flash with 7.2.....................:good: :good:
Always wipe dalvik and cache at least. Doing just this is a "dirty flash". As long as data isn't wiped you won't lose anything.

[Q] Looking for simple Rom and Guide

Hi there,
my mother in law is pretty upset with her Gio. She complains that it always has slowdowns and there are to many useless apps on it.
Therefore I want to get her a Custom Rooted Rom.
She mainly does:
-Of course, telephone
-Use Whats App
-Use SMS
-Wants to use a E-Mail-Client
-Use the camera
-Listens to music
Therefore I am looking for a custom Rom which lets me delete all the Useless Roms and improves the speed and the battery life of her phone. If it has a better launcher design which is not as "boring" as the one on her phone this would be a huge plus.
She uses Android 2.3.6 which is not bounded to a provider.

Since you doesn't have root or custom recovery, you can't use the "programs" WYPIERDAALAAC said. One way to backup your stuff is to use a program called Ultimate Backup Tool. This program doesn't need root or custom recovery. It works on Windows, Mac and Linux. Try it, and then reply how it went!
Thank you very much.
Now I need a Guide to install the Rom, where Can I get it?

If you wanna install Enhanced236 (the most bugfree one), you need to install install cwm, Clock Work Mod, first. How to:
1. Make sure that you have fully charged your battery.
2. You need to download the ext4only 5.0.2.0 cwm version, here http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1421650.
3. After you have downloaded the zip, you go into recovery mode, in this case stock recovering. You do that by holding The Home Button + Power Button until the recovery gets visible.
4. Then you do click on the Apply update from sdcard, and select the cwm zip.
5. After you have flashed the zip, you should reboot your device. Here's a YouTube video on the installation process: www.youtube.com/watch?v=hxjxB8P9rSU
6. After you have done that, I recommend you to take a nandroid backup. The backup will be stored on your sdcard, so you can copy the backup to your computer if you want to, just in case.
Now you have installed CWM. Let's install the ROM!
7. Download the enhanced236 from this thread. Copy the zip to the root of your sd-card, and then go into CWM. Wipe data/factory reset. After that, wipe the cache partition. NOTE! This will erase everything you have done on your phone, so make sure that you have a backup ready! After that, click on the install zip from sd-card, choose the enhanced236_06.08.2012.zip and flash it. Just follow the instructions that pops up, and then restart your phone. Leave it booting/waiting for like 5 min, and then start touching/configure the device. After doing the necessary configuring, wait another minute. And reboot. And then it's done! Wohooooo.. :victory:
Hope you like your new custom ROM! And if you have any questions, just ask! I'm glad to help!

With your help I managed to install a custom Rom, thank you very Much.
I installed Cyangemod 7 Beats Music Edition.
Unfortunately I think I made a mistake in the backup. These are the files the backup gave me: IMAGE
-With this files and the files with are still on the phone is there any change to restore her contacts?
-Additionaly she has problem with handling her Phone connected to the PC as a Mass Storage Device. Is there any (free) German software which syncs the Music, Images, Videos more easily with her phone?
My mother in law is not very good with PC, therefore the more simple the software is the better.
Thank You very much

Hi guys can i use this method to flash a custom rom to a stock Gio, my brother in law would like to have a custom rom but he don't know how. Do i need to root it ? Please help.

[Q] ROM Cleaning my Stock ROM, how?

Hi there, I'm new to posting threads on the XDA forum, but I have been looking around for quite some time, reading and learning a lot. I used this forum to root my HTC One V and put custom ROMs on it. And today I used it to root my HTC One X.
My question is about using ROM Cleaner to clean my stock ROM. I saw in the ROM Cleaner thread that this is possible, and I noticed some people doing the same thing, but I don't quite understand how to do this.
So, my HOX (HTC_E11) is still pretty much completely stock (running the out-of-the-box Stock Android 4.2.2, with HTC Sense 5.0, software number: 4.18.401.2), accept for me rooting it today and flashing CWM recovery.
Now my question is:
How do I use ROM Cleaner on my stock ROM? Do I first have to go back to the stock recovery and then flash the deodexed (right?) stock ROM? Or can I just flash the deodexed stock ROM, when using the CWM recovery and then use ROM Cleaner?
Many thanks,
Felix
Just use rom cleaner over the running rom. I assume you already made a stock nandroid backup in the custom recovery ?
Ow and check the romcleaner user.txt found in the OP of the thread and edit it to your needs.
Just spoken to the proud owner of romcleaner and that is a point of attention

Thanks for the fast response!
Yes, first thing I did after flashing the custom recovery. So I don't have to download the deodexed stock ROM? Will I still be able to remove everything I don't want when ROM cleaning the odexed stock ROM?
Dont see why not, ow and if it fails you can restore the backup and start over
Hi,
ROM Cleaner will work even on stock ROM, deodexed or not.
ROM Cleaner will log all apps that have been removed and based on that log it will also remove all unused odex files if they exist.
It's strongly advised to edit your own ROMCleaner_user.txt found in download section.
Edit the txt file with notepad++ if you are using Windows. (you will find more info about this in the guide)
But it's basically add or remove "#"
# in front of an app means it will not be removed.
No # in front of an app means it will be removed.
Once done with your user.txt, create a folder in the root of your sdcard called "ROMCleaner" (case sensitive)
Then copy the user.txt to that folder. (/sdcard0/ROMCleaner/ROMCleaner_user.txt)
When you flash ROM_Cleaner_v4.0.zip in recovery the aroma welcome screen will tell you if the user.txt is in the ROMCleaner folder.
Now press "ROM Cleaner (Sense)" option. >
The rest should be easy peacy.
Good luck!

Awesome ! Haha
Just finished cleaning my stock ROM! Very happy with the result! Think I cleaned about 300 MB Already seen the user.txt, made good use of it
One thing, the apps I deleted via ROM Cleaner are now 'ghost' apps in my app drawer. But when I de-instal them they seem to disappear, so not a real problem (haven't rebooted yet, after de-instal).
Thank you both for your fast and very helpful responses!

That's normal when dirty flashing ROM Cleaner.
Too avoid issues like this, RC should be applied before the ROM has been booted for the first time
