Official ICS Petition - Verizon Droid Incredible 2

Does anyone know if there is one or how we can start one if there's not?? I think if we could get official ICS even with sense we could adapt the kernel like we have for gingerbread to make it AOSP for those who're the senseless type.

Odds are very slim that it'll ever happen, doesn't much matter though, there are HTC phones with Adreno 205 that are gonna get official ICS so porting it is gonna be almost a guarantee. Doesn't really matter much though because it looks like all of the current HTC phones that are getting ICS are just getting Sense 3.5 with a different dock anyway. Hopefully sense 4.0 actually looks different and is more like vanilla ICS, I like the glass and glossy look but they really need to reinvent their UI since AOSP ICS is such a giant step in a new direction.

Yeah, I'm just saying it'd be even better if we got it from HTC for this phone. If not, then we'll still get sick ports, but I'd like to see straight from them.

VZW Gingerbread?

Anyone have an idea when it will be released?... Theories? I am nearing the end of my 14 day return for my Inc 2 and noticed today that the X2 is supposedly going up for sale on May 26th WITH Gingerbread. Thoughts?
Umm have been reading on this and my question is why do you want ginger bread ? its just "Updated" version with nothing that is really new .

Are you serious? GB is significantly different from froyo. Better power and application management, NFC support, VoiP/SIP calls, SIP audio for video calling, better download management for HTTP downloads, new sensor support(gyroscope), audio, graphic and touch screen input enhancements for game developers, support for webm/VP8 video playback, aac audio encoding and bumped api's to 10 with more support for native code.
Not to mention the new skin for AOSP and the new multi touch KB. I'm sure I left out a bunch of stuff but that's what I can recall from reading. So that being said you should take a moment and actually do a bit of research before posting a response like that.

Okay true .. but I'm not freaking out like "Oh I WANT Gingerbread already" there is no point in begging for it .. its more like you will get when you get it.
But then again, it shouldn't be the case that we're still stuck on Froyo when Gingerbread has been out for so long already and Google has already announced Ice Cream Sandwich.

Again you guys need to research or have some actual information on the subject posted. GB is only running on a handful of devices (officially) and ICS will not be out for a while. So GB will come I'm sure, in its own time. So the majority of handset owners are "stuck" on froyo. Keep in mind any device with a custom UI is going to take longer than a vanilla device.

I've read in many articles that, HTC said that gingerbread would come in Q2, Since the end of Q2 is in june, i don't see why we wouldn't get in then, especially if the first incredible is supposed to get it in summer. Motorola isn't going to let the Droid X get gingerbread before the X2, i don't imagine HTC will let the first incredible get it before the inc2
I would agree too, I think they are waiting to release the bug fixes like backwards maps in the GB release. Costs them too much to keep pushing out patches.
i have a sample inc2 device with GB 2.3.3 sense 2.1 (s/w version 2.09.605.1 baseband 20.27w.30.0811u_1.07.00.0507_3) loaded. This is not a mkt sale device but since I got it with that loaded on it i know GB will be coming to all when verizon finishes whatever tests it does. Also since it is so stable, i doubt that everybody getting GB is too far away.

Do we have any inkling as to what GB will look like and what flavor of Sense 2.1 we will get? The leak of GB for the Thunderbolt had Sense 2.1 with the Sense 3 notification pull down, but not the new lockscreen. The HTC Flyer is running GB and Sense 2.1, but the lockscreen is the Sense 3 style. I would love to get the lockscreen and the quick settings in the pull down.

once(if) we get root, DEVs can get us the 3.0 lockscreen the inc1 already has ROMs using it.

I am all for this, but it would be nice to see it come as part of the update from VZW/HTC. If HTC already has it for Sense 2.1, lets see it on our devices when they get updated.
I've read that only dual core devices will get the full on sense 3.0 experience(officially). Maybe jcase or one of the devs in the know could verify this?

Confused about ROM bases

I'm trying to broaden my knowledge of the differences between ROMs. But I'm suffering from Information overload.
My current understanding that there are four/five types of ROMs:
1. ASOP, usually vanilla Android 2.3.7 No Sense anywhere, ROMs such as CM7, MIUI, Xplod, and Liquid
2a. Sense 2.1, based of dinc2 stock images? ROMs such as Carbonite Fusion, TSM, and SkyRaider Zeus and Sabotage Sense
2b. Sense 2.1 stripped of most Sense attributes. ROMs such as TwistSenseless and TSMvanilla
3. Sense 3.0, based off other phones stock images? ROMs such as Trinity2.0 or Virtuous Unity
4. Sense 3.5, based off something called 'runnymede'? ROMs such as RunnyDr0id, RCMix3D, Virtuous Affinity, JmzRunny, Magnolia, MikRunny etc
I wasn't attempting to include and exhaustive list of ROM examples. And left off ICS until it is out of Beta development.
So is my understanding close to accurate? Can someone help clarify my examples?
Thanks,
Zhin
I'd say you have a pretty good grasp of what's going on. That pretty much sums it up.
It's all based on personal preference on what you would like to run, All phones also run differently so you may have to experience multiple different ROMs to see which one you like the best.
People choose ROMs based on stability/performance/battery life, each base provides different experiences. Do you want a GSM phone or not? If you're interested in running world mode then your ROM choices just shrank.
The only thing that needs to be changed in this list would be that sabotage sense is based on 2.1 and has 3.0 parts added like skyraider Zeus.

By "all phones", do you mean different models or different Incredible2's?
GSM is not a concern, but I did notice that only certain builds support it.

Well, honestly different dinc2's as well. Some peoples phone doesn't wanna run cm7 very well, and some people have a phone that doesn't like sense much. Since every phone is different even in the slightest, every phone is gonna rugby slightly different.

HTC Sense on Galaxy Nexus

I found that in the Nexus S forum that there is a HTC Sense ROM version launched as a beta. I would love to see it running on our GNex since the hardware is simular it should be possible.
The problem with Sense was that the battery drain was huge. But since GNex and HD2 devs managed to solve this in better kernels it should be possible to make it run like a charm on our GNex
I came from HTC HD2 and we had so much different ROM to flash like: WP7, all andriod version, windows 95, ubuntu, meego and much more... I kinda mis that on the GNex. A lot of HD2 devs are working on GNex so I hope that we have those possibilities also in the near future.

I had a nexus s from what it looked like sense was hard as hell to get running.
Sent from my Galaxy Nexus using XDA App
I don't think that will be happening. HTC doesn't use PowerVR or TI OMAP so proprietary stuff like that would be a ***** and it might not be worth the trouble. Also...you bought a nexus phone for the stock Android experience and latest and greatest...WHY WOULD YOU WANT TO KILL IT WITH FIRE?
Sent from my Galaxy Nexus using XDA App
Kinda beats the idea of having a Nexus if you ask me.
Sent from my Galaxy Nexus using Tapatalk
I really don't understand people on here!! If you want Sense, buy a HTC phone!!! People buy nexus's because they cant stand the skinning of manufacturers, and now people are asking for touchwiz and sense ports, which just slow the phone down! WWWHHHYYYY?!?!?!
people also buy the Gnex becuase of its developer support. Most people here love flashing stuff and though I love stock ICS I would love to try out the latest touchwiz or sense as well
One, i didnt bought the phone for plain ics experience but due to the hardware specs.
Two, I hope that the device will get more options in flashing ROMs. Not cuz i like Sense roms but just cuz its possible. And i'm more into plain ics dont get me wrong, also my HD2 had plain ICS without Sense cuz it runs better.
Thirth, I hope that ppl will see smartphones as "normal" computers and see the possibilities of running and developing other OS then Andriod. A lot of people are so short sighted and focus only on the Andriod experience. But there is more capable with the device .. so much more.
Take Ubuntu for example, most of our kernels are based on the ubuntu kernel. Its possible to run plain Ubuntu. The experience would be like a laptop. You can connect it to a screen and add a mouse. Ofcourse you could make a dual boot with the choice of ics and the other system with Haret. Running ICS as native OS and booting Ubuntu from internal storage with Haret.
Dont get me wrong I love the phone as it is and I love the way ICS works and would use it always as daily use. But from developing perspective there are so much more possibilities wich also can give the GNex a lot bigger status as best phone =)

Btw the only thing not working correct one the Nexus S Sense ROM is wifi and its driver related. Ppl like Cotulla or TyTung have made a custom driver (wifi, gpsa, camera and lots more) so its not impossible .
I truely loved to see how ppl managed to make a custom driver for a camera and how it worked code wise since the standard device drivers are closed source. In my opinion those ppl are truely DEVs like the kernel builders. Crappy apps or game programmers arent true DEVs in my opinion .. i'm a app/game/web programmer my self and dont consider my self to be a true mobile DEV.

Brilliant. There are so many different launchers and really nice widgets on the Market. I just don't understand why somebody would like to kill his phone with Sense or Touchwiz. Latest Sense even looks like Launcher Pro. We do have the after Sense isn't it?
Sense isn't impossible as long as you port Sense, and not the whole damn rom. Biggest issue we saw when we tried a while back was gralloc. That may be less an issue now that there are ICS versions of Sense out there now.

The poster was incorrect as we made no such announcement. We do have 'sick' stuff in the works, but its not Sense. Our Sense expert gave it a shot and without having ICS HTC kernel source, its unlikely to work any time soon.

I don't know exactly. Erishasnobattery is the one who attempted it. I believe there were gralloc issues. Back then, we had no ICS Sense to work with though, so I don't know, it may be entirely possible now.

Either way, it's all about choice, people buy this phone for superior development, so people just like options.

[WFSdev] Which ICS rom would you use?

ICS will come to your phones, and the WFSDev Team would like to know which
ICS ROMs you are going to us or which you want for your WFS.
Let us know it
Ps. You can select more if you want
Erm, this is probably a stupid question, but by this statement, do you mean that ICS is coming to our phones via Cyanogenmod, or are we getting an official upgrade to ICS? I saw someone's post about our phones not receiving any more upgrades in the future and this kind of confuses me :S

is the ics roms like cm9 and miui v4 coming within the next few weeks or so?
Sense till Gingerbread looked great but it's just crappy on ICS........ even HTC thinks Sense 4.0 is too much bloated...
I m waiting for miui ics eagerly. Bcz basic ics is not more attractive than miui..and lack of miui rom we cant use miui .mdz(themes) files which have so many option for look change...but it seems 1.4.5 is crappy till now for daily use..so i m chekng evry time for progress...i thnk more devs shoud work together for it for fast updates...thnx for this thread.
I also expect for sense 3.0 rom...i thnk it is far away till nowww...no 1 dev seems to b interested in it till nw.

LOL, I wrote on IRC chat that he will port it
I'd use CM9 if it does away with the slightly choppy graphics of CM7. I've always been a fan of Cyanogenmod but I can't stand the laggy graphics, so I'm currently using a Sense ROM. However, the 'old' Sense is integrated with our devices and works more smoothly as a result (in my opinion, at least), but Sense 4.0 isn't, so I'm expecting the same choppiness outside of games. And another thing - if CM9 is stock ICS, then it will have those software buttons that would just take up what little screen space we have, am I right? MIUI, on the other hand, I've never liked. It looks like a bloaty cross between iOS and TouchWiz to me and I find both CM and Sense far superior to it.
So, to round it off, I'd use CM9 if it isn't choppier than Sense 4.0 and has no software buttons, since it offers more than Sense 4.0 (I prefer the old Sense, honestly), even if Sense does add a lot of polish to the bare ICS.

HTC One Incredible S

With a Sense 4a/ICS Sense ROM, this (http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1598865), my Limited Edition Spiderman Beats By Dre headphones, some theming of my own, and a white case, I am going to transform my DINC2 into what I call an "HTC One Incredible S"
ok?
Beats already comes with Sense 4 by default. You don't need to flash anything else unless you want to mess it up.

Just to clarify, last season's HTC devices get an ICS update in the form of Android 4.0.3/Sense 3.6. This applies to the Sensation (all models), Vivid, Amaze, Incredible 2/S and even the Desire S/HD, along with a couple of others.
You won't see Sense 4.0 on any of these 'older' devices officially. It was the One series' drawcard, and it won't be officially ported backwards. That's what XDA is for
That said, I'm really impressed with performance increases on the Sensation, Vivid and Amaze from the ICS update. Usability of Sense 3.6, especially the Launcher, is greatly improved. You should get a good little boost out of the official ICS when it arrives.

most likely they started working on the older devices later, and by then 4.0.4 was in aosp id guess
given that htc updates on the same os version so frequently, id imagine the evo 3d/sensation/rezound will move up as well
some of the msm7x30 devices on gb at points had 2.3.3, 2.3.4, 2.3.5, and 2.3.6 (dont think any of that chipset ever saw 2.3.7)
