Kickstand cases - Samsung Galaxy Nexus

Greetings all -
I have the VZW extended battery SGN and I'm looking for a case that provides a little bit of shock protection, fits on the extended battery and has a kickstand. Coming from the Thunderbolt this phone is a breath of fresh air in regards to weight and size, so I want to keep that part intact. The Verizon kickstand holster from what I hear doesn't really provide very much in terms of protection and doesn't fit well on the extended battery.
I've searched threads and most cases seem too bulky or no kickstand..can anyone point me in the right direction?

I'm with you, coming from the tbolt I really need a kickstand. I bought the VZW one and still using the OEM battery. Nice thing about the case I think it's the only one to allow portrait and landscape.

Thanks for the feedback, anyone else?

I bought the otter box case from verizon on sat and will be returning it tomorrow. It is a nice case, protects the phone and allows portrait and landscape.
My only problems are lint(its a magnet for pocket lint), form factor(its tank like) and the built in screen protector(gives the screen a grainy look).

how about this: search in ebay for: White Crystal TPU Hard Back Case

The Seidio Active has a built in kickstand. I've used the Active's in the past and I like them pretty well.

Just got the ebay kick stand white tpu case. Its pretty flimsy but with care it might last a month or two. Its pretty hideous to look at and my wife made fun of me for having it lol. Beats having nothing I suppose.

These little tabs to hold the kick stand in will probably break first.

Still nothing available? Man the kickstand is incredibly useful when I am out eating lunch.

yeah I use it when eating lunch at work too =o. Just using verizon holster without extended until something better comes around...what a wasted extended batt!

So does the seidio active with kick stand not work with the battery? Id love to order it but its a bit pricey if it doesn't work.

I too was looking for a nice case with kickstand but Verizon only offers one and it looks sh!tty. I bought myself a couple of these small phone stands: one for work desk and another in my car in case I wanna watch something in the restaurant during lunch. They're pretty small and compact when clipped in.
http://www.ebay.com/itm/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=400266244836

I second the Seidio Active. It apparently has a cutout in the silicon layer beneath the kickstand that allows it to accommodate the extended battery. Look for Asianrage's posts in the case sticky for pictures of the Seidio Active with the extended battery.

I was looking at those too. I ended up going with a gogostand. Check out this thread:

Its extremely portable and works well.
- GSM Galaxy Nexus

So, i broke down and ordered the seidio and it doesn't fit real well with the verizon extended battery, but if you take the plastic cover off of the back off the phone it fits perfectly and you can't tell the back is off. Its no thunderbolt kick stand though that's for sure. The angle is steeper and of course its wont do portrait mode.
Overall I like it. Its built well but the power button is a bit hard and if you have a dock that uses the 3 pin connectors they are covered up.

Did you try to massage the silicone with the back applied? Work the corners and readjust the sides. That's the only thing you have to do. The initial fitting was disappointing for me, so I used the system without the battery cover, but decided to give it a second chance after a few days. Have you seen the pictures that I posted in the link above? That's my phone with the extended battery and cover encased in the Active.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1405890&page=9
The kickstand reclines too far back compared to the Bolt, given how short the leg is.
And I doubt that there will be any 3-pin dock that would support any cased SGN.

Oh sweet I hadn't seen that post, I'll try wrestling with it again.

Well after trying again with the back plate on the phone I'm going to stick with my original recommendation. For me, the the fit is much better with the battery cover plate off.

Seidio ACTIVE Case w/ Kickstand 15% Off Coupon

I've been waiting for a nice looking case with a kickstand. I just found this ACTIVE case from Seidio, looks like it just came out. I went ahead and ordered one. I'm hoping it will work with the extended battery, but if not... I may try just using that one as a backup. It'd be nice to find just the spare battery charger. I really don't want to buy another battery.
You can also get 15% off using the coupon code "winter11". Anybody else ording this case?

I'll order when blue or red comes out. Or white.
Rabble rabble rabble.
The kickstand is cool but the sides look really ugly to me and if you don't put your fingers there when you hold the phone it might feel awkward. Bonus points for covering the top part by the ear piece though.
i had an active on my droid x and was pretty happy with it except for the size and weight, but the otterbox defender for the gnex is just WAY to big (IMHO of course). functional case and holster combos are few and far between and seidio provides a solid product.
right now i'm using a surface, have an active combo on the way and i'm praying they come out with a naked holster since once the 3 pin docks start showing up i'm not gunna feel like case stripping to dock all the time
I've had the Seido Active for my TB. While it's a great case! It felt extremely bulky and made the screen feel smaller. I went with the otterbox commuter this time. Seido is great! I dropped my phone dozens of times with no injuries to the inside.
Anyone received their Active yet? I'm looking for a review. I'm a long time Seidio Surface (Innocase) fan but they are on backorder and I like the idea of a kickstand.

YES! I want a kickstand. I saw the Verizon case with kickstand and I wanted it but I have the extended battery and I refuse to go cover-less just to have a case fit it. I've been using the hangout on mobile a lot and it sure would be nice to have a kickstand so I don't have to hold the phone up all the time as well.

Is the commuter about the same size as the active? I also used an active on my TBolt. Wanted to try Otterbox this time around though, and the defender is just way to big for me.

I just got my commuter in last night. Otterbox has two day fedex shipping for under 6 bucks! Can't beat that.
I'll post comparison pictures tonight of my old active next to the commuter. The one thing I really miss is my kickstand, I feel so naked without it heh

Who actually has the Seidio case? Is the kickstand for it any good? I am also interested to hear if it fits on a phone with an extended battery.
Hey guys, I have the Seidio Active Case with metal kickstand for the OEM 2100 mAh hour battery, and I love it, BUT, there is a problem with it I figured I'd let you all know.
The metal kickstand and the thickness of the bump for it, interferes with NFC. As you may know, the NFC antenna on the Galaxy Nexus is actually in the battery, so it's as close to the back of the phone as possible. The Seidio kickstand goes right over the middle of the battery. It is very difficult if not near impossible, to do things like "back to back" transfers with my Nexus 7
(especially while my Nexus 7 is ALSO in it's Active Case. If I take the plastic outer part of the case off, that contains the metal kickstand and the bump, and just leave the
silicone/soft inner on the phone, NFC works just fine.
But with the outer part on, NFC is very hard to use for back to back. With a NFC terminal like for payments, it works better (as they generate a larger powered field - I test them
at work actually as part of my job).
I let Seidio know this, they don't have a plastic kickstand version for the OEM extended or their extended. I suggested they move the kickstand up higher, or re-engineer it to be
thinner and plastic.. but no changes yet.
For now i take the outer shell off when I want to use NFC back to back
You also can't get the cases for extended batteries in anything other than black.. I wish I could get Red for it
I found even with the extended battery there are NO gaps in the case! just pull the plastic a bit and its perfect!
Oh and if anyone still wants one for a bit cheaper I am selling mine cuz I gat a new SIII ;] http://www.ebay.com/itm/281037616353?ssPageName=STRK:MESELX:IT&_trksid=p3984.m1555.l264

Bought this on eBay. Just search for "Galaxy Nexus Qmadix"
I love it!
I've always been a fan of the Seidio Surface Case/Holster Combo. I've bought them for all the phones I've had, even the Nexus S. The Nexus S, just like the Galaxy Nexus has a curved glass, because of that, the Seidio Surface case is not a slide on case like other Surface cases, but a 2 piece sandwich style case that encloses the phone from the back and front. I did not like this style on my Nexus S. I can feel the seam on the sides of the phone and it was a bit creaky. So a search for a replacement case/holster combo I went.
I've compiled a list of Case+Holster cases here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1399540
On to the review!
Case comes with a rubberized textured snap-on case and a matching felt lined face-in style belt clip holster, also rubberized and textured.
Since it's a snap-on case, it does not protect the top nor bottom of the phone if you drop it. The sides do protrude over the phone so you can lay your phone face down on a desk or flat surface and your screen will not touch the desk/surface.
I have the GSM version of the Galaxy Nexus. This Qmadix case is suppose to fit on both the GSM and Verizon version. It's very snug in the snap-on case. I don't feel it moving around or squishy. You can tell there's a slight gap on top of the phone, but it doesn't alter/affect the phone/case on the GSM Nexus.
The phone can only go in face in which is great. It can go in top or bottom first, but it's made to go in bottom first.
It goes in with a satisfying "click" feel. Since the phone slides into the holster, you have to push it out to get it out. This may take some practice, but a good way to do it is use your pinky/ring finger and place it on the bottom right of the phone and push it forward and then grab the phone from the top sides and pull the rest of it out.
The belt clip is great. It rotates 180 degrees. I wear a 1.5 inch wide belt and it fits it perfectly. It even has a little notch on the clip to securely hold your belt.
There's something cool but odd with the belt clip holster.
It's a stand! But it's useless! It has the metal thing that goes down and has 4 settings you can set it to. You can't put the phone in screen out to use the stand! I can't figure out any other way to use it.
And here's a pic of the phone/holster on my hip:
All in all for ~$20, well worth it if you want a case/holster.
This is great and saves me from needing to do a write-up when mine shows up (hopefully) tomorrow.
BTW, is it possible to just lay/rest the phone against the "stand" and have it stay in place? I'd think so, at least in the horizontal position, since the case is rubberized.
Heres the real question, does it fit with the extended battery?

I guess you can kinda lay the phone on the desk leaning against the stand. It works but tap on the desk with your hand a few times and the phone moves/falls.

I really doubt it. It's pretty snug as it is.
I'm squeezing the back of the case to try and feel if it pushes in but I don't.
Anyone tried this with the VZW Nexus yet? How is the fit?
I'll be trying it with my VZW Nexus with extended battery a soon as my case shows up in the mail. I'm hoping it will be today.

Are you using the EB back or the stock back? On the case my wife is using I had to switch to the stock back when using the EB to get it to fit better in the case. It's not overly difficult and the shape of the back where it curves seems to be the biggest factor.
I use the extended back. I may use the stock back to see what you're talking about with a better fit.

My case finally arrived. I'm using an extended battery along with the stock back and it seems to fit fine once it's been worked into place.
Anyone had any issues yet using this case with the extended battery with standard back?
I wanna buy this case but don't wanna put too much strain on the phone by not using the correct back...

Remove the clip from the holster? Yeah if you break it off.
I notice inserting camera side first exposes all available ports. But here and also on the cover, it is shown to insert the other way which exposes only the volume keys(that too partially). Is the right way or can it go both ways? Also if you have to buy a screen protector, does it have to be a case fit or a regular one would be just fine.

The case/holster is made to put screen in and camera facing out (protecting the screen).
Any screen protector is fine, the case holds the sides of the phone so doesn't affect the screen protector (squishing it/etc)

Thanks for your response. I did not mean face out(screen) which I understand it always goes face-in(screen) to protect the screen. What I meant was top/bottom in(assuming camera side is top) first. In this case it allows both sides to go in but the picture says bottom side in. With this it doesn't expose all buttons/ports. But with top(camera) side in, all ports/buttons are completely accessible.

Has anyone tried the new Seidio Cases made to fit 2100 Extended Battery yet?

Someone earlier posted a seidio code for 15% off and while I was just browsing I noticed Seidio FINALLY released some cases made to fit with the Verizon 2100mah extended battery WITH the backing on. None of this ghetto battery cover off business!
I searched but haven't found any info. Has anyone gone ahead yet and bought one (Surface, Convert) yet? Is the fitment just as great as the standard one? I have a Verizon TPU case that fits the extended battery just great, but I've been waiting for a hard case that will fit for a while now.

I have not tried the new seidio case. However, I am currently using the Seidio Surface and I've managed to squeeze the original VZW ext. battery into it.
You can fit it in there by:
1. Put the ext. battery in the back
2. Put the ORIGINAL BACK on the Nexus (I know it won't completely close)
3. Snap the case on
Ta Da! It works!
BTW this is my first post.
I just got my Convert Value pack for the LTE 2100 mah battery today.
So far I like it a lot. The Surface case fits perfectly and adds little to the size.
The Convert case is a silicon skin with an exoskeleton that fits over the Surface case. I was interested in this for those times when you need extra protection for outdoor activities. This thing is very durable and I can't imagine how the phone wouldn't survive some serious punishment! It even had a silicon shield for the camera lens that folds down for taking pictures.
The value pack also comes with a screen protector, but I haven't decided if I'll use it yet.
I would recommend the Seiko cases.
Btw, I posted the JAN2012 15% off code.

Hey thanks for the review. Let us know after a week or two if the surface case on the inside scratches your phone. I want one but the one I had for my nexus s scratched my phone up badly. The design has rough edges inside where the two parts snap on the seam. Also this case for other models in the past has been a little too small causing the corners to rub and scuff up the phone as well.

I really don't see how that could happen with this case. It fits tight and I don't feel any edges along the internal seam that could scratch anything. There is also a velour covering all along the inside of the back piece.
It's rather hard to get apart once you snap it on the phone - which is a good thing!

Good to hear about the improved build quality. Also worried as the extra bulk of the extended battery (gsm) might put stress on the corners and induce those scuffs. Thinking of getting one of these. I will definitely be inspecting the inside of these prior to install.
Czechm8, would you mind reporting back anyway about interior damage if you find anything? Most interested in the corners and the areas near where the volume and power button cutouts are. Those are where my nexus s got scratched.

No it isnt. Its supposedly similar in thickness to the standard lte version, but a smidgen thicker.

Perfect fit(gsm)
I own other cases but this is the best. my only complain if I would be picky is that there is a line around the side of the case (check last pic), I know it is the way plastic stick together but I would like to be a little less obvious.
If you want to buy it,$16.99, I would recommend checking ebay, as SGP has an official ebay store and shipping is free (in their website has same price but they charge shipping)
Thanks!
does it fit the LTE perfect?
How hard is it to push the volume and power buttons?
Sent from my Galaxy Nexus using XDA
Seller says only international version
-----
It is a little hard pushing the buttons, there is no feedback for power button. You get use to it eventually.
It fits the GSM version with the extended battery so I'm sure it fits the LTE version with the standard battery. Extended might be pushing it.
It is true there is virtually no feedback from the power button.
I had the same case when I had my first nexus. Lovely case, feels great.
It does fit the LTE version but doesn't look as good as the GSM version IMO, it does look damn good tho

No Fingerprints are not visible at all. in the black color I'm sure They'll be visible
Just got this today as well. The fit on my GSM with extended battery is actually better than with the standard battery. It is definitely the nicest so far of my SGP cases........and I have all of them!

How is it compared to regular TPU cases? How is the protection? I like the look of it, but there is a smaller lip around the screen than with most other TPU cases? Won't that protect the phone less?
Nice to see someone like this as well. I have the black version and use an extended 2000mAh batt. fits well. i do have a GSM phone.
I'm a new gsm user, and i'm happy this case will fit the gsm version with extended battery
Where can i buy the 2000mah battery original for the best price ???

I have the mercury TPU case, and it looks it protects better (it is ticker) but it makes the phone to big and I don't like the way it looks.
This spigen case will protect the phone against scratched form desks, from drops I don't know; but I would help, it is not super thin anyway it is ticker than the battery cover.
I never really used my other cases after one week (phone felt bulky), but this spigen one I haven't taken it off since I bought it, very good balance btw protection and looks.
Off topic but where can I get that wallpaper from? I've looked everywhere and can't seem to find it. Could you pretty please post it?

I second this.
The lip over doesn't really protect the phone but making the screen appear smaller and clunkier because all you need is a raised edge that lifts the screen slightly up when placing it face down(not overlapping it); SGP Capsule got it.
It's my 2nd favorite case.

Someone correct me if I'm wrong, but I believe the seller shimshop on ebay has the best price for the genuine extended battery and cover.

Otterbox Defender + Anker 7200mah

First I want to thank Liptus for daring to do what we all thought about-but didn't have the [email protected] to try. OP below
Otterbox Defender + Worlds largest 7000mah battery
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2188013
So I tried the same with the Anker 4400 with great success, and satisfactory results.
Since it hasn't been done yet,
I will do the same with the Anker 7200 and see how it goes.
Fit and finish should be comparable to Liptus OP, except I will be using a razor knife. Here are pre-mod pictures. Will update when finished.

Okay,
So I finished it in about 40 minutes.
It was a bit harder to do then the first time. Mostly because the gaping hole in the middle and the smaller sides. I suspect a fresh mod will only take 20 minutes.
If I've helped you, please hit the thanks button = )

Fit and Finish......
So it fits nicely and looks roughly the same as the ZL mod. One thing I noticed and like more is not having to cut out a piece of the camera lens shroud. This is due to Anker positioning the battery offset lower.
There is still a small gap at the top near the lens, and the usual adjustments need to be made, ie- stretching the tpu to facilitate proper button use.
Additionally,
If you make the battery hole a smidge larger than actual, you can take out the battery- w/o disassembly of the entire case!
I will be using this 7200 in tandem with my 4400. When one is dead, the other will be juiced and ready on my external charger.
BTW, this 7200 is new and uncharged. I Will be running tests and side by side comparisons with the ZL7000 in my other thread.
If I've helped you, please hit the thanks button = )

Kudos for trying this, the rubber cover is not going to last long though. I've gone through tons of them already on the defender without any mods like this. The rubber eventually starts warping from going in and out of one's pocket.
Thanks Paradox,
My hope is that my using the Otterbox with the belt clip M-F, and switching over to the the Anker TPU for sat-Sun, will give me the solution I am looKing for.

Does the belt clip still work? If you don't mind adding a photo with that would be interesting, i'm assuming it works only if the screen is facing inward. If you give otter box a call they will send you extra rubber housings, I had to hassle them a lot but I managed to get a few extra since the case is known to warp...I wouldn't mention your "case mod" experiment though. I'm going to try out the case that comes with the Anker battery hopefully it is sufficient, I'm going to run without a screen protector as well for the first time since my HTC Tytn II so hopefully the gorilla glass is all it's cracked up to be.

The belt clip does still work, and as you guessed-only face in.
I will submit a picture in the am.
Thanks for the Otterbox info, I'm sure I will need it.
All the best,

I just got mine today! The case that comes with it is really fantastic feels extremely solid, I'm surprised you feel the need for the otterbox still.

I need the belt clip, if this had one-it would easily be my daily driver.

Pics.....
Paradox,
Sorry for the delay, I forgot you asked for pics. The belt clip still works, it is a bit trickier now that the phone is so fat. The bottom groove on the clip pushes against the battery. It still fits, but it needs extra effort to get it clipped in.
Hit the Thanks button if this helps.
