First I want to thank Liptus for daring to do what we all thought about-but didn't have the [email protected] to try. OP below
Otterbox Defender + Worlds largest 7000mah battery
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2188013
So I tried the same with the Anker 4400 with great success, and satisfactory results.
Since it hasn't been done yet,
I will do the same with the Anker 7200 and see how it goes.
Fit and finish should be comparable to Liptus OP, except I will be using a razor knife. Here are pre-mod pictures. Will update when finished.

Okay,
So I finished it in about 40 minutes.
It was a bit harder to do then the first time. Mostly because the gaping hole in the middle and the smaller sides. I suspect a fresh mod will only take 20 minutes.
If I've helped you, please hit the thanks button = )

Fit and Finish......
So it fits nicely and looks roughly the same as the ZL mod. One thing I noticed and like more is not having to cut out a piece of the camera lens shroud. This is due to Anker positioning the battery offset lower.
There is still a small gap at the top near the lens, and the usual adjustments need to be made, ie- stretching the tpu to facilitate proper button use.
Additionally,
If you make the battery hole a smidge larger than actual, you can take out the battery- w/o disassembly of the entire case!
I will be using this 7200 in tandem with my 4400. When one is dead, the other will be juiced and ready on my external charger.
BTW, this 7200 is new and uncharged. I Will be running tests and side by side comparisons with the ZL7000 in my other thread.
If I've helped you, please hit the thanks button = )

Kudos for trying this, the rubber cover is not going to last long though. I've gone through tons of them already on the defender without any mods like this. The rubber eventually starts warping from going in and out of one's pocket.
Thanks Paradox,
My hope is that my using the Otterbox with the belt clip M-F, and switching over to the the Anker TPU for sat-Sun, will give me the solution I am looKing for.

Does the belt clip still work? If you don't mind adding a photo with that would be interesting, i'm assuming it works only if the screen is facing inward. If you give otter box a call they will send you extra rubber housings, I had to hassle them a lot but I managed to get a few extra since the case is known to warp...I wouldn't mention your "case mod" experiment though. I'm going to try out the case that comes with the Anker battery hopefully it is sufficient, I'm going to run without a screen protector as well for the first time since my HTC Tytn II so hopefully the gorilla glass is all it's cracked up to be.

Paradox,
Sorry for the delay, I forgot you asked for pics. The belt clip still works, it is a bit trickier now that the phone is so fat. The bottom groove on the clip pushes against the battery. It still fits, but it needs extra effort to get it clipped in.
Hit the Thanks button if this helps.

Wish the pics were better so I could see what it really looked like...I cant quite make out the pattern on the back. Looks like a weave look near the top, not sure if that carries on down the entire back or not. Any one have a link to pics with better lighting, or even better...a video? Thanks for sharing, it looks nice but not sure if I can spend $20 for just a silicone case....

I bought the Commuter....meh....it's ok. Got my Impact today and I think I've found the case for me. love it so far.
I like the case. It's pretty much what i've been looking for in terms of having good protection without the bulk. I'll try to post pics later.

it's thicker than your normal silicone case but I think the Seidio (I have the Surface) makes the phone bulkier. The impact at least is more form fitting and doesn't add as much bulk. I will say that the Impact adds more screen protection than the Commuter. You can lay it face down with less worries.
Does the impact case collect lint and dust like the commuter?
How deep does the camera recess look, since you have it would you mind looking from the side?
Just got home (late night at work) and LOVE it! Great case, I had the body glove case till it broke around the volume rocker. This case solves the button area issues perfectly. My wife also really likes the way it fits and looks, so it's not just me either.

yep...not sure what the other guy was referring to wishing it fit tighter. It's snug. As far as lint, I haven't had a silicone case that didn't collect lint in the beginning. Then after a few days lint is usally not a problem.

Greetings all -
I have the VZW extended battery SGN and I'm looking for a case that provides a little bit of shock protection, fits on the extended battery and has a kickstand. Coming from the Thunderbolt this phone is a breath of fresh air in regards to weight and size, so I want to keep that part intact. The Verizon kickstand holster from what I hear doesn't really provide very much in terms of protection and doesn't fit well on the extended battery.
I've searched threads and most cases seem too bulky or no kickstand..can anyone point me in the right direction?

I bought the otter box case from verizon on sat and will be returning it tomorrow. It is a nice case, protects the phone and allows portrait and landscape.
My only problems are lint(its a magnet for pocket lint), form factor(its tank like) and the built in screen protector(gives the screen a grainy look).

I too was looking for a nice case with kickstand but Verizon only offers one and it looks sh!tty. I bought myself a couple of these small phone stands: one for work desk and another in my car in case I wanna watch something in the restaurant during lunch. They're pretty small and compact when clipped in.
http://www.ebay.com/itm/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=400266244836
I second the Seidio Active. It apparently has a cutout in the silicon layer beneath the kickstand that allows it to accommodate the extended battery. Look for Asianrage's posts in the case sticky for pictures of the Seidio Active with the extended battery.

So, i broke down and ordered the seidio and it doesn't fit real well with the verizon extended battery, but if you take the plastic cover off of the back off the phone it fits perfectly and you can't tell the back is off. Its no thunderbolt kick stand though that's for sure. The angle is steeper and of course its wont do portrait mode.
Overall I like it. Its built well but the power button is a bit hard and if you have a dock that uses the 3 pin connectors they are covered up.

Did you try to massage the silicone with the back applied? Work the corners and readjust the sides. That's the only thing you have to do. The initial fitting was disappointing for me, so I used the system without the battery cover, but decided to give it a second chance after a few days. Have you seen the pictures that I posted in the link above? That's my phone with the extended battery and cover encased in the Active.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1405890&page=9
The kickstand reclines too far back compared to the Bolt, given how short the leg is.
And I doubt that there will be any 3-pin dock that would support any cased SGN.
Oh sweet I hadn't seen that post, I'll try wrestling with it again.

Got mine today. It's pretty awesome. The molded screen protector is a great feature. I will likely use it when I am outdoors playing, but switch back to my Rock case when I am lounging indoors.
The belt clip is another great addition. I would take this case over an Otterbox ANY day. It doesn't make it nearly as big and boxy.

There was nothing in the box but the case, and a Ballistic decal. The screen protector is flexible plastic. I will add that it distorts the screen a bit if you look at it a certain way. Nothing offensive, but worth noting. Almost like a 3D LCD. It's weird to describe.
I'm assuming you will be able to order them on their website soon. The case was just released a day or two ago.

I'm already beginning to dislike the plastic screen protector. It seems to be creating a lot of false touches, which causes me to have to use the back button a LOT. It may have to come off and see how it works without it.

thanks for the continuous updates. pretty helpful to see how the case turns out in the long run.
i decided not to go for ballistic or commuter
went ahead to preorder a trident kraken ams. for the price (31 shipped to the US), design and protection i think its the best of the 3. if it doesnt work out ill go for a commuter before ballistic.
I had to remove the Ballistic. Everyone was complaining about not being able to understand me on the phone. The mic is such a tiny hole on the bottom of the phone, it seemed the rubber hole was preventing my voice from carrying. I put the Rock case back on, and the problem is solved. I would imagine this could be the results for any case that covers the bottom of the device.

Eh...
I have an Otterbox Defender and I heard about the Hyperion 4200+NFC and thought of the same idea but I didn't get the battery yet because I was thinking that the backside silicon would petrude.
If you look carefully at the backside pic after everything is said and done, it bulges about 2mm too much. I'm sure there is a gap now...something that I and most others (I would assume) would want to avoid.
I don't use NFC so maybe a slightly smaller battery, 3500 or so will be the 2mm less that it needs to be for this to be the ideal "hack" job.
(I wonder if the 4000 would work? Does anyone have specs on the thickness for the 4000 and 4200? BTW, a rotary cut tool would be best to cut, for those who are going to try this.)
Do you have any pics of how you made it?

His pics are posted already...
If you are asking me, I didn't do it yet because I had the thought that it would bulge the silicon on the back (as you can see in the pics)...but I'm trying to see if the 4000 is thinner by about 2mm, then it would be good. Hyperion would be the wiser choice as they are the better known brand...those other XYZ companies just make junky batteries IMO.
Anyone on the 4000 and 4200 thickness? (I've asked the only eBay seller that sells both, hopefully get a response soon)
Do you think it would be a bad idea to put electrical tape around the battery and back case to further prevent dust from getting into the electronics? I work in a warehouse and dust partials can sneak through cases.

Yes the bulge and the gap kind of bothered me at first too but I don't work in an environment that has a lot of grit. (As you can see I actually work at a Verizon store). As far as how I made it I just took a dremel but unfortunately didn't have the right tool at the end but I made due. Overall I'm still satisfied with it. The extra bulk really isn't whole lot for me plus I love having the rugged case. This has really made me love an already good phone.

OIC...yeah, the phone is so thin the Defender really isn't all that bulky as one would think. It's really the front bezel (to protect the screen) that kinda makes it look so much thicker. With the Defender, I can only think of a precise hit to the flat of the screen that would damage it...basically the tank of all cases!
Like I said, a couple of MM less and it would be perfect...someone had a double OEM battery hack job, just wished I knew the thickness specs on all these batteries...

The case is pretty much a Kraken case with a battery built into the back. The battery is 2000mah.
With medium usage yesterday it stayed at 100% from 7am to about 1030pm (with using the trident battery along with the Samsung battery)
It is a bulky case..its alittle bigger than a Kraken case, but it feels stronger than a Kraken case. I dropped it afew times and it never split apart like the Kraken did..so they might of fixed this issue.
So ya..figured I'd put this on here since I didn't see anyone else talk about this yet. Atleast when I searched for it I didn't see anything about it.
By the way I got mine on Amazon for $45 with free shipping so you can find it cheaper than the $70 asking price. :good:
Case looks awesome. Looks better than the kraken. I love trident products. If it weren't for purchasing the Samsung 3000mah battery I would totally picked up this case.

Its a 2000mah trident battery not a normal samsung one. Its replaceable if you pop the back cover off, the battery sits right there in the case.

can you turn the extra battery on/off like the Mophie?

Yup it has a button in the back so you can turn it on whenever you want.

Well, I finally got mine and in short I'd say this case is good but not great. I'll start with the Cons First
1. The Rubberized case that comes with it is quite loose fitting so it slips off pretty easy.
2. The case is large for only a 2000mah battery, I feel that they probably could of used a higher cap battery.
3. ***This may only be mine*** The bottom snaps dont stay together all the time which worries me because if they are not snapped properly then the stress of holding the bottom of the case together is on the usb port.
Pros
1, You can use the rubberized case as a stand alone case (although I wouldnt)
2. It comes with a belt clip (again I wont use it, but its nice to have)
3. Comes with screen protection
4. When its all together its fairly rugged
5. It has the ability to select what you charge first when its plugged in (the phone or the case) and when one is charged, it starts charging the other.
6. Price, I found mine for only $45 shipped. Retail is $70 though.
I'll try and post some pictures later.

You're not the only one. My case does the same thing. It's almost as if the rubber inner case is too big for the design on the bottom side of the case. I just sent an e-mail to Trident's Customer Service explaining the issue...I'm hopeful for a reply.
I did the same, lol.
I got mine today after leading a Harlem Shake video at a sales training course. After misreading the instructions, I finally got it working.
It's taking some time to get used to the size, but it's an awesome case. Looking forward to putting it through its paces.

I'll be receiving mine tomorrow but I'm a bit unsure on how it works. If I turn the spare on will the phone recognize it and battery stats adjust accordingly?

The battery thats with the case is used to charge the battery in the phone itself. So me personally i run it normal then when my battery gets to about 50% i turn on the cases battery to charge the samsung battery.

FYI...got an e-mail from Trident Customer Service. They're exchanging my case for a new one...it's being shipped and I have an RMA.
If this second one still has the same issue, I'm going to ask for an exchange to a standard Kraken and refund for the difference.
