Hey guys I have some knowledge about rooting (rooted the G1 first- the good ol days haha). My question is about flashing new roms. Currently I have the juggernaut rom and was curious as to understand what steps do I need to take to flash another rom? Do a fullwipe then simply install the rom? My second question deals with kernels. If I want to flash a rom and on the thread it gives me a kernel to flash as well is this what i do? Wipe everything, then flash the rom, then reboot, then go back and flash the kernal? Thank you guys for your help!!
I always do a wipe before flashing a new rom. Not sure if it really matters and I usually flash a rom and then flash a kernel without leaving cwm or rebooting.

So you flash the rom, then if given the kernel during recovery mode then reboot?

So I would like to flash the "syndicated ice" rom but have had great luck (no LoS) with the stock kernel repacked with CWM. Therefore I would like to keep the kernel but have the rest of the ACS rom. Is that at all possible? Closest info I found said to just delete the zimage from the rom zip and flash as normal to keep the kernel im on. I did some searching (google and XDA) but if I missed it feel free to guide me there with as little flame as possible..haha.
Take the zimage out if the rom using a program such ad 7-zip or winrar.

Just flash your question was how do you keep the kernel and the answer was simply.
Take the zimage out of the rom using a program such ad 7-zip or winrar.

Now don't over think things and just go on as normal as you would of if you did not change out kernels... Its just that simple... good luck

just odin the kernel you want after you install the rom......
It is also ok to flash the kernel you want through CWR right after you flash the rom before rebooting. Have chris41g stock repacked on your SD card, Flash syndicated rom, flash kernel, reboot. I believe that's what you want.

so took out the zimage with 7zip and flashed as normal. Got to "flashing kernel" and it told me cant flash kernel, aborted. Was something else suppose to be done? Dont give me the "over thinking it" answer again. Apparently the method is wrong or I missed something that was suppose to be "simple" sorry if im coming off like an ass....kinda

Delete the zimage (thats in the rom) place the zimage that you want in its place within the rom then flash the rom.
All you need to do is flash the rom you want as is with out taking out the zimage. Then flash the kernel you want, much like with other phones. You'll then have your rom and kernel combo.

Can the above be done if ive already flashed Culk's 1.5 ROM? Or would I need to wipe and install both at the same time?
If done with Odin do I load the kernel
in the PDA?

I just flashed Cal's v1.5a, rebooted and then flashed chris41g's LoSt/exp v1.0.0.8 through CWM, no issues.
So let me try and get this right...I'm on fd26 stock rooted in order to flash a new ROM all I have to do is flash a GB kernel and not go back to GB fully, and if I wanna flash just a theme then I just use el29 kernel also is this correct? If not what are the steps I take to flash a new ics ROM from stock rooted fd26??? Thank You in advance!!!

You have to flash the el26 CWM kernel (if you're on an ICS rom it won't boot because it's a GB kernel) then boot into recovery and you can flash stuff that way. If you do a theme, be sure to flash an ICS kernel after flashing the theme so it will boot normal again. Roms have kernels in them already so you don't have to worry about them.
Here's the el26 cwm kernel. http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=25017238

Honestly what you have to do is read the OP fully and do whatever is asked of you in there to make sure your phone is upgraded properly. Making new threads asking questions that may give you multiple answers may only confuse you further. I assume if you have to still ask this question with the amount of how to not brick and safe way to flash threads then you are still a little confused.
Best way to not have a paperweight is to follow whatever the OP's thread info to the letter. what rom you trying to flash
Jus' Sayin'
Yeah all I have done is went from stock to stock rooted and I have stayed stock rooted that's easy for me using the PC version of odin. I just wanted to start flashing new roms I have read all the posts and realize how not to brick I was simply wanting to know what would be the easiest way to go from stock rooted fd26 to like blazer ROM our mijjaz the goodness as I have not flashed using cwm recovery before...

Yes before you flash make a nandroid backup in ClockworkMod recovery. If you don't like aokp (highly doubt you'll have this issue) just boot back to recovery and restore nandroid.
EDIT make sure and grab darkside superwipe and cachewipe first. Use these instead of cwm's wipe functions. Superwipe before rom flash cachewipe after any flash. It will save you from a lot of bugs.

If you're asking this i suggest you read ALL the stickies before you do anything. I've been seeing a higher than normal of threads complaining of phones getting bricked which means people arent following directions.
You're asking a very basic question that can be answered by reading the stickies.

Hi all,
This has probably been answered a few hundred times, but I really want to be 100% sure I don't brick my phone. Today I got the new FF18 update and then rooted it and put CWM+Agat on it using QBKing77's awesome videos.
My understanding is that I can now flash between ROM's in CWM just like I used to do in Gingerbread and not worry about bricking it. That is, assuming I don't use a "TW" ROM (not sure exactly what that is) like AOKP or CM. Is that true?
If I want to flash Blazer ICS onto my phone, I can just copy it onto the SD card and install it from recovery? Or do I still have to do the whole EL26 thing?
Only other question I have: if I want to put Calkulin's ICS ROM on my phone but still use FF18, how would I do that? I love his GB ROM and used it for months with no issues.
Thanks in advance.
Yes you can flash roms with the safe kernel. Just make sure that you flash the safe kernel back on if the Rom erases it before you flash something else. On the calk question you would flash his from then the safe kernel if I understood you correctly.

This will explain the process and as for a custom rom, I'd suggest that you look at a few and pick one that looks interesting to try; there are several excellent roms available for the E4GT.
mobile odin...in playstore or there is a free apk floating around on xda..once this is installed go grab a gb27 kernal withagats recovery from repository..and grab the el 29 direct boot kernal...el29 is safe to flash any rom from...download rom of choice..make sure this is all on ur root of sdcard...open mobile odin.click on kernal.go to ur el29 kernal and pick it and flash..odin will check md5,but u should too..once in recovery hit volume down , volume up , volume down..now ur power button is enabled as ur enter button..wipe data, wipe cache, wipe dalvik cache,in advanced....do anything specif from rom op that the dev says...read,read,read....lol..rom should have a kernal with it...u might have to flash gapps zip....reboot....if this is ur first time on jb...i suggest getting a one-click restore so ur system partition is right for jb...there r great guides in repository for all of this...dont forget to thank ur rom dev and rwillco and any others that helped....good luck and as always...im not responsible if ur phone blows up or ur microwave runs away...lol

You need to be on ICS modem, which can be flashed in cwm after you flash your ROM.

Now, where do I find an ICS modem? And after I flash the safe kernal should I flash the ICS Modem with CWM and then CM 10.1 Or does it not matter?

Google is your friend . Here's all modems for the E4GT. And flash the ROM first, then the modem, then reboot, and profit!
