Last night I flashed CM9 Alpha 1 onto my Epic4G Touch using QBKing's video's and everything went perfect. I backed up my Stock Rom and then flashed the Alpha build and now I wanted to back it up, but my CWM Recovery is now gone. If anyone could give me advice on how to bring it back up or install it again, I would greatly appreciate it!
Thank you in advance!
Matt
There is a reason a cwm is not in the kernel with cm9 so people don't use it and brick their phones ....I would advise against using any ics kernel with cwm ....Odin a GB kernel like el26 " your ics ROM won't boot with the GB kernel" download a ics kernel before you do all this ... Odin the kernel el26 boot into cwm backup cm9 & then flash the ics kernel back and clear cache and dalvik and it will be backed up but remember it will be backed up with the GB installed so it wont boot u will have to remember if you go to the backup to flash that ics kernel or it will never boot

Epix4G, I am sorry, but that is very confusing. I have no idea what you're talking about.

Then truthfully maybe you should not be messing with it you have a good chance of bricking and if you don't know what I am talking about you may not have the ability to flash this right now...it's easy to brick with these ics roms
I told you step by step how to do it

I understand what you were saying, but it made no sense the way you wrote it, lol. Do you have a link with this information that is clearer?
1 download a ics kernel ie.. Fc22 etc
2 download GB kernel el26 this is a strait cwm not rouge or acs..
3 use Odin to install el26 kernel your cm9 will not boot with this kernel but it's no problem.
4 reboot into cwm it's blue ...make your nandroid ...
5 if you want to stay on your cm9 then use the cwm to flash the ics kernel you downloaded in #1 ...
6 if you want to flash anything else go ahead and do it ...
7 when you want to go back to your cm9 use Odin to flash the el26 again " you can use mobile Odin to do all this also "
8 when going from ics to anything Odin to stock or the el26 kernel and go from there ..
That is the safest way
Sorry I am on my phone or I would find all the links for you

Hello!
If there is a thread for this already this can be deleted and I would like to be shown the link, but from what I can tell most threads are old info or a bit misleading.
So right now I'm running an ICS ROM. I hadn't looked into the fact that going from ICS to a new ICS ROM back brick the phone, so I looked a bit more into it. From what I gathered, using a recovery on and ICS rom to install a new ICS ROM has a CHANCE to brick the phone?
If this is true, what is the easiest way to go from one rom to another? For my recent ROM I used the guide where I use odin mode to install the stock GB ROM then use another tool to get CWM on my phone then use THAT to install the ROM.
So my main question, is, is that the easiest way to go about changing between ICS roms? Can mobile ODIN be used more effectively? If that's what I have to do that's what I have to do....but I feel like there should be an easier way....hopefully.
Thank you all and thank you devs for all of your hard work!
There's an el26 + cwm kernel our there. I know you can get it from several threads to include the Frankenstein rom. All you need to do is mobile Odin that flash and as long as what rom you flash has an ics kernel you are good to go. No need for multiple flashes and odins

Ya mobile Odin makes it ez. Flash a non-stock recovery kernel prefferably the el26 cwm on mobile Odin then in cwm use calkulins wipe all zip then flash rom of choice

Yes before you flash make a nandroid backup in ClockworkMod recovery. If you don't like aokp (highly doubt you'll have this issue) just boot back to recovery and restore nandroid.
EDIT make sure and grab darkside superwipe and cachewipe first. Use these instead of cwm's wipe functions. Superwipe before rom flash cachewipe after any flash. It will save you from a lot of bugs.

If you're asking this i suggest you read ALL the stickies before you do anything. I've been seeing a higher than normal of threads complaining of phones getting bricked which means people arent following directions.
You're asking a very basic question that can be answered by reading the stickies.

Hi all,
This has probably been answered a few hundred times, but I really want to be 100% sure I don't brick my phone. Today I got the new FF18 update and then rooted it and put CWM+Agat on it using QBKing77's awesome videos.
My understanding is that I can now flash between ROM's in CWM just like I used to do in Gingerbread and not worry about bricking it. That is, assuming I don't use a "TW" ROM (not sure exactly what that is) like AOKP or CM. Is that true?
If I want to flash Blazer ICS onto my phone, I can just copy it onto the SD card and install it from recovery? Or do I still have to do the whole EL26 thing?
Only other question I have: if I want to put Calkulin's ICS ROM on my phone but still use FF18, how would I do that? I love his GB ROM and used it for months with no issues.
Thanks in advance.
Yes you can flash roms with the safe kernel. Just make sure that you flash the safe kernel back on if the Rom erases it before you flash something else. On the calk question you would flash his from then the safe kernel if I understood you correctly.

Hi everyone. I got a question about switching to a more current ROM.
I currently am on "PARANOIDANDROID 2.52 4.1.2" (Baseband FH13) http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=31047469
And want to try something Jellybean. For example, "Touched By SGSIII Version 6.0" (GB27) http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2051374
My memory is foggy, but I remember having to flash EL26 before moving to ParanoidAndroid from my stock ROM and going through a big ordeal. I wish to not be surprised when trying to change ROMs this time, so my question is what is the process? Not step by step, since I have more than a moderate understanding on what need to be done, but just clarification on what it is I need to know so not to brick my phone. What ODIN, which recovery, if need be. (I'm on CWM 6). I believe I would be switching to JB from ICS, so will I have to go to stock JB first? Ect...
Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thank you.

Kchannel, I think what he means is will he be switching from jb to ics kernel/recovery wise, but it kind of threw me off too:thumbup:.
Actually since source dropped, none of that is necessary. Just head over to here:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=39865775
download the GB27 with Agat's recovery to your phone, downloan a gb27 modem if you don't have one, reboot to recovery, flash the GB27 modem if you don't have it yet, wipe data, cache, dalvik, flash TBSG3, flash agat's kernel, reboot. You'll be golden. For the wipe, it's never a bad idea to find and use the jb format x2. Have fun! The reason for flashing agat over the stock kernel is so that now you'll have recovery, as before when you had PB, before source dropped, that wasn't an option.

Sorry, I was under the impression that base bands corresponded with android version.
For example, I thought that EL26 was a kernel that needed to be ODINed to then run a ICS custom, if I had a GB ROM. If I wanted to run newer ICS ROMs I would have to ODIN and updated kernel like FH13. Thus if I wanted to move over to a current JB ROM I would need to ODIN GB27. I guess I was wrong.

EL26 from the repo(thank Rwilco12 and Chris41g) http://www.rwilco12.com/downloads.p...ls/Recovery Kernels/GB/Chris41g/Stock CWM/TAR
is considered a "safe" kernel for flashing. Use mobile or pc odin to flash, reboot to recovery, clear cache/dalvik, flash jb rom, flash jb kernel(gb27 if your custom ROM is that build, can also be found in repo), reboot, should be good to go. First boot will take awhile. Good luck!

Sorry, I'm a bit confused. So do I need to flash EL26 and thus go through the steps mentioned? Or do I follow the steps in your first post (omitting EL26, but making sure I flash a modem)? Maybe its easiest to just tell you what my understanding is and you can correct my sequence or change the details:
Since I am already on a 4.1.2 rom, I can go directly to TBGS3 (or TBGS4 now) but I have to
1. Flash the GB27 modem in recovery
2. Wipe (JB format x2)
2. Flash the TBGS4 rom in current recovery
3. Flash the GB27 kernal (GB27 + Agat's tRec)
Currently on ParanoidAndroid 4.1.2. (FH13, CWM 6.0, MetroPCS)

Seems like I am getting different answers but I guess I won't know what works without trying. I'll try tonight but becuase the above stock rom doesnt preserve data and I will need to reenable my MetroPCS service, it will take time but I will try to update with how everything went.
Well, I made it to stock GB27. I will post details on how I got there tomorrow. But for know, which JB roms do you recommend? I would prefer a TouchWiz one, thus I was looking at TBGS4, but any opinions are welcome. Thanks again.
How did you get to JB in the first place. I am having trouble with my E4GT . I can one-click to ICS but not to JB

There are several good ones out there. Shadow_God's Jellverse is super smooth, and has tons of mods thanks to SG and Tdunham. Goddly's White Out is also another good, stable, ROM. If you want JB stock, me and Febby both have GC01 rooted available that works just fine on Sprint or Boost, and in the same thread, I have a debloated version as well. Good luck!
