Zaggfolio Keyboard Charging Problem - Galaxy Tab 10.1 Accessories

I have only had my Zaggfolio keyboard/case for a few days now, and by and large I am quite happy with it (other than the shift-space language change, anyway to turn that off?). Had my tab since a few days after launch, but hadn't bought a case for it until now as I hadn't had a need to take it anywhere for an extended period of time, but this Christmas I am visiting the in-laws, and well...'nuff said.
Anyway, I was letting the keyboard charge earlier, but upon removing the cord from it I heard a snapping noise, like something broke. The charger seems fine, and plugs into my phone still with no issues. However, when I plug it into the Zaggfolio keyboard, it only will charge if I hold it at a certain angle. I think something inside the keyboard that holds the micro-usb port may have broken. Has anyone else experienced this? Should I try and exchange it (bought locally at Best Buy), or what do you guys think?

If it were me, I would go take it back and exchange it for another one. I just bought mine today and so far I like it. Though the keyboard gets in the way for me sometimes.
Its possible that the board broke or a connection broke near the charge port which is a pain.

I just got mine last week and this case/keyboard is the best ive come across. If i were you i would take it back and next time be a little more careful removing the usb plug from the keyboard. The only thing i would change and it maybe not even be app licapable but i would leave a space open to charge the keyboard while you have your tab connected to it. But im not sure if you can actually do it while it is connected so ill have to test it out and post on how it works out. thanks for the heads up ill make sure im extra careful plugging in and removing the usb cord.

I ended up exchanging it on the 20th for another case, since I was going out of town for a few days. I used it a lot the first few days I was out of town, and the keyboard worked pretty well overall, no lag or anything, and I was careful with the charging and it had no issues either. The last few days I was out of town I didn't use my Tab much, busy with holiday crap, so it just sat in the case. When I got back home I was taking everything out, and found that my Tab had those Newton rings on it. I took it out of the case and just let it sit overnight, they were mostly gone by the next day (about 4 inches wide by 1.5 inches tall starting out), and totally gone by the next. In any case, I'm now leery about the case doing that, since I read that some people also had similar issues (though I did see that there's some debate over whether or not it's the Tab itself or cases that do it), so I took the case and returned it today. I'm probably gonna get one of the Pyro cases, the clip probably from what I've read so far, but we'll see. I've looked at various cases on here and on Amazon and whatnot, my main need is the lower angle (often referred to as the "typing angle"), as opposed to the "viewing angle" that the Zagg has, so I think the Pyro would be good. I dunno, I have yet to see what I would call the "perfect" case for the 10.1, I need to keep looking around.

ive gone thru about 7 cases and this case+keyboard is THE BEST i have come by so far. im so glad i listened to task650's advise on this one! But to each there own.

Iconia tab A100 screen flicker/rotating settings

I just picked up 1 of 2 A100's on BF at Walmart. And the unit I got had been opened with the writing "Display" on the box. Since walmart was willing to match Best Buys price of 189.99 I felt it was worth the risk as these are somewhat difficult to get. Even at the higher prices. So, I took it home and plugged it in. It did boot fine the first time. However, after the second boot something strange started happening. In the lower right hand corner the battery/wifi connection box would continuously pop up and go away repeatedly. It would also bring up the settings window almost as if someone was continously touching the screen i guess.
I then did a factory reset and the first boot was fine. However, when i turned it back on it started doing it again.
It appears that the Iconia Tab has a screen flicker issue but I'm curious if that is what I'm seeing. And if so what are my options? I would like to keep the thing and don't want to pay full price. So should I call acer, return to walmart when they have inventory, or is there a fix out there.
Me thinks you should of bought the 2nd, unopened unit. Buying an open box item is always risky and I'm surprised you didn't pay less than $189.
I would bring it back and return it. Wait for a new one...sounds like this one might have taken a fall or two?
I doubt you would have to pay full price...besides, BB's prices are good until Sunday...you could call 15 Wal-Mart's and find one by then.
i had no choice i was second in line.....no worries though i found another walmart that had one left at 10am and returned it for an unopened one.
I bought an 8GB A100 unit a month ago here in Italy and it is starting this weird behaviour since a week too. I cannot replicate the problem all the times. Sometimes it works perfectly, sometimes it starts clicking like crazy and opening panels and apps all by itself.
When this happened, I tried to light shake it in case of false contacts, but this doesn't seemed to stop the clicking. Also I tried to super clean the surface of the tablet blaming on excessive grease or moist, but got no improvements.
I noticed that this tends to happen more when I switch it on after a walk with the A100 in my coat's pocket, but if I use it when it is on my desk, most of times it works with no problems.
I can't decide if returning the unit or not. A month is passed and returning policies here are not granting users as much as in the US. Expecially if the problem can't be reproduced "on demand".
I don't know what to do.. maybe trying a reset could help, but as I can see from pabdaddy1995, not too much. Let's hope a firmware update can solve this.
Ciao from Claudio
pabdaddy1995, marvin2k,
This is the same problem that I've faced after installing swiftkey keyboard.
After removing it, it worked perfectly!!!!
There is something you guys are doing and you might ignored it or you didn't pay attention to that caused this problem.
Try deleting/ uninstalling new apps you added recently.
Good luck!

When you say "flicker" do you mean a VERY brief flash, like the speed of a blink of the eye, of some crazy shape?
My A100 has also done this ever since I got it. I swear that every time it happens it looks like my screen is cracked, but upon close examination, there really are no cracks in the screen. No random apps or windows pop up or anything like that, but when the flash occurs, the screen will turn funny colors and a crack in the shape of a funny looking X will appear all in the blink of an eye. But its not very often that this happens, so I'm not really gonna bother with it. Plus it was fresh from the box, never a display.
ummmmm............ could you repeat that?

Acer replacement/spare parts?

Hi all, my refurbished tab suddenly decided to stop charging, so I'm looking to see where I can get spare parts for it? Either the battery, the charger, and/or the AC-in port are bad. I already contacted the vendor, and it's still in the 90 day period... but I wanted to have a back up plan.
For argument's sake, The original charger seems dead, I connect it and nothing. I have a car charger, plugged into a DC-AC adapter that starts to charge it briefly, but then it starts acting crazy (it rapidly changes from charging to not charging). I think the AC port might be messed up since there's a faint smell of burned circuits when I sniff the little "port" (was going to use hole )
The tab does turn on, and if I leave it connected to the DC charger it should eventually charge (it charged about 3% with the tab off in about 4 hours).
Ideally I will get a positive response from the vendor (only reason I haven't opened the tab up), but as I said, I rather have a backup plan.
I'm sorry but did you say you kept charging it even after sniffing its (I'll do it) hole and smelling burning? I hope I Mis understood that part. However to offer some kind of help, do you smell anything using the stock charger, and have you wiggled it at all to see if it picks up? Also I would check that other adapter output, 12v and 1.5a iirc. Lower may account for the switching of charging and not, also slow charging. To high may be the smell and you toasting your tablet.

Yes I did try to charge it after I smelled the burning. I only noticed that the tab wasn't charging when I heard it whine about low battery even though it was still connected. I then tried plugging it in, and out multiple times and wiggling the connector about to see if it would make proper contact. By the time I got around to sniffing stuff, if something were going to happen I'm sure it would have happened, but just in case I haven't pushed the issue with the stock charger, though it's pretty clear it's as dead as a sexually active teenager in a Friday the 13th movie.
I'm actually tempted to buy a replacement charger if I find one around locally; I'm not going to order it online and wait for "X" amount of days.
In any case, I got enough of a charge to restore it to stock ICS, no unlocked bootloader, no root.... *SIGH* these things are really NOT fun in their stock state.
OK...one last thing to check....the charger has 2 parts on the wall plug side. There's a tab you push down and the blades slide off, under that on the plug side will be 2 metal tabs, check those. I don't know if you had to put that on when you got it, but its something worth checking out. Maybe lightly pull the tabs up, don't get crazy just a little, slide the blades back on and give it a shot.
I would suggest checking the middle pin, however it takes a charge from the other charger you tried, so I doubt that's it, but maybe something worth checking anyways.
I know this isn't the point of the thread, but why replace if its a simple fix?

If you smelt a burnt smell coming from the tablet power port i would not recommend using it and replace it. The charger port is available on ebay as i was searching for other things for this tablet.
Well tried to inspect the charger... the thing looks brand new (well it is only a month old) pins are fine, and the contacts look fine as well. Believe me whenever possible I try to fix things more because I just like tinkering with stuff than anything else, but what I was thinking is that while I'm messing around with that I won't be able to use the tab. I will admit that messing around with power sources/adapters/etc isn't my strong suit... but that makes it even more exciting LOL!
dslayer83, I guess my searching skills have been found wanting. Before posting anything I did some searches but could not find anything through google, or ebay. Just about the only thing I found was the vache's thread where he uploaded the service manual, which has a slew of part #s, but sadly google searches for the parts that interest me don't turn up much.
In any case, I was contacted by the seller today asking if I wanted a refund or a replacement, so maybe I won't have to resort to plan"B". Still curious as to what the hell happened that made the tab go crazy, this is the first time I've had what appear to be hardware related issues with any of my electronics (coming from somebody who owned and abused a 3rd revision PS2, that's quite the statement), so it's all so new. Oh well, guess I'll ignore my curiosity this one time.
Thanks guys.
I would exchange it for sure. Or return, up to you. Aside from battery life and learning to use the screen around that 1 horrid angle, this tab has been amazing, coming.from a nook color to nook tab to kindle fire to a100. For 7" I'm not sure anything comes close for the money.
As for what happened, its hard to say. Could be something stuck in the port burned off, the charger wasn't regulating properly before it died, any number of things. The tab seems alright aside from hole sniffing and charging...anyways if you plan to exchange, make sure you get a new charger too.

Ditto on the return or exchange. Why tempt to repair something that can be replaced. I love my a100 and its the first tablet ive owned and only paid $80 for it. I know i got my money worth out of it already.
pio_masaki, you like this tab more than the Nook Tablet? I don't particularly like the design, but I thought the NT would be the better tablet... then again that just might be because I'm not a die hard Nvidia fan. I know I definitely like it better than the Kindle Fire since I've dealt with those (no SDCARD?... who came up with that?) I do agree though, that for what I paid nothing comes remotely close... though I paid $100 more than dslayer83 (lucky bastard).
Anyways, yeah I'm going for the exchange. If the seller was going to start giving me too much grief I was ready to repair it myself, but they seem to be complying so maybe there will be no need.
It doesn't really have anything to do with me liking nvidia, actually I don't care for nvidia for a few reasons, however the performance and price can't be beat. The nook tablet is just a bootloader locked color with dual core, imo not worth its price. The a100 is a true tablet, cameras, GPS, etc for the same price new.vs new last I looked. Plus now that ics dropped the sources will propel the a100 way beyond the others for performance and rom/kernel deving.
When I had the NT they could only root the stock, no cwm or custom roms available, it may be different now,but for me and what I want from my devices the a100 couldn't be beat. The fire would be second for me, my mom uses it now and it runs fine on ics for the most part.

Sorry didn't mean to imply you where an nvidia fan, just that I don't really like them and usually go out of my way to evade them, whenever possible. That said, I just think the Ti chips on the NT and the Fire is better than the Tegra2, plus I hear wonders about the NT screen which I will say is the one area that the A100 didn't really feel great (despite me saying that the Ti chips are better I'm in no way complaining about this tabs power, not by a long shot). It looks super indoors but outdoors it's closed to impossible to read; still that's not a biggie.
Tomorrow I'm sending it back to get replaced, so fingers crossed I get a replacement by the end of next week, or sooner
On a side note, last I checked the NT had CWM, CM9 and the whole thing, though CM9 didn't seem like it wasn't at the daily driver level. I think devs were concentrating on porting the 3.0 kernel to it. I was really interested in getting one, but due to it's shape it wasn't a good fit with what I needed.
I completely agree on the nvidia thing, I have quite a beef about their drivers, also a laptop that has burned out 3 $600 replacement video cards, the last took the motherboard with it. That aside, for my money the t2 offered the performance I wanted vs price and.development at the time. I'm glad they cracked.open the NT, its going to be a very tough unit to beat once 3.0 gets going on it.
Im pro TI by far, and my next phone will likely be one sporting their hardware, or rather anything not tegra like my g2x. The a100 certainly fails screen wise, and if I decide to move from my Acer the NT is definitely on the list again.
Back on topic I'm glad to hear the seller is stepping up and handling business in a professional manner, so many stories about sellers flaking on their products makes hearing of a good one kind of rare. If you don't mind, who did you go through? It may help others looking for a good deal and a seller they can trust will do the right thing.

Heh, well i work in a cellphone repair shop and we buy and sell as well. I see plenty of knock offs come through the door but this puppy was well worth the buy. Im enjoying exploring what all i can do with it. Already using my Infuse wireless hotspot for its internet when im not around wifi. Might just get a car mount and use it for long trips for gps instead of tying up my phone.

I'm also hoping to get a phone using TI hardware in the future, but since I'll probably be going to republic wireless in a few months my options will be limited... *SIGH* In the mean time I'm probably buying a pandaboard at some point, though I'm not even sure for exactly what yet. I'd use it for an htpc, but I'm going to use a Raspberry Pi I'm supposed to be getting in June to run XBMC, maybe I'll just shove the pandaboard, instead of the a100, in the car, so many plans, so little money to do them all LOL!
Anyways, the seller is 1saleaday down side it's not a constant stock thing, they'll have deals for well... 1 day. A lot of the times their electronics are refurbished, but despite that everything that I've ordered has come to me looking not "like" new, but brand spanking new. This tablet in particular was refurbished by Acer themselves according to a little label... and while it did crap out, I'm perfectly aware that "sh*t happens". On the topic of shiesty sellers, my attitude until I heard from them should indicate what I think about most stores and their services, but glad to be pleasantly surprised this time.

thankyou
anyone could you advise me on a battery please
I think you might be better off with a power point to continuously charge it. They're just as cheap, even from the likes of Maplins, and easy to install.
I gave up depending on batteries on my bike years ago, if you have several they're fine for a day or two so long as you don't mind having to stop and change them out at random times, but if you're on an extended trip it can sometimes get tricky to find somewhere to recharge at night especially when out foreign or say camping.

the waterproof case i got only just fits the note so no room to plug a cable in, to bad as this would have been a great idea
I've got an Aquabox which is pretty much the same as yours and had the same problem, so I just drilled a hole in the thing
It's mounted to the bars and most of the rain is deflected by the screen anyway so not much actually gets to hit it, and it's survived since Christmas right on the Atlantic coast through lots of the wet stuff
you could also get something like this
Them Aquaboxes look alright ... might have to get one of them myself

Please help me fault find my Nexus - will not switch on

Hi all,
well I'm not happy at all. I am on the 3rd Nexus so far, the first one started having the phantom charging issue within about 2 weeks of owning it. That went back for repair, but when it came back I walked out the store and it would not turn on! Went back and the swapped it for a 'new' one. I say new but I'm not sure as I didn't see the box being opened. I started having problems with that one within a month or two, same again. Also every now and again it would not switch on easily without plugging it into a PC or something.
Anyway, I recently woke up one morning and the battery had died over night, tried to charge it with no luck. I have tried everything, the USB trick, leaving it overnight, all sorts. When I plug it into a USB port I get the ding dong noise, but about 4-5 seconds later it disconnects, then re-connects... and cycles again and again.
Well took it back to the shop and sent for repair and it came back exactly the same, because they say they found water damage!!! This is total rubbish and the photo 'evidence' they provided did not convince me at all! I have since opened the phone up and the tiny bit of residue on the top left of the main PCB looks more like flux than a water mark to me. The moisture sticker is fine and the area in question has hardly any components there, just a cap and resistor. I am an electronic engineer by trade and I know it would take more than that to break it!
I am certainly not going to lie down and let Vodaphone crap on me for a phone that has been well looked after and is old about 8 months old, there is no way that I'm prepared to pay £45 a month for the next 8 months for nothing!
I have ordered a new USB PCB so I will try that when it arrives but I'm wondering if anyone has had similar issues and managed to resolve them? I haven't got another battery I can try but I would be surprised if it is that?

4th time a charm?

So, I decided to go for one more exchange on my watch, taking up the offer of the BB manager that they would take it back after the 15 day period. After it started with the sudden drop in battery, which was very bad today, 40% in 2 hours, plus the difficulty with the charger and the HRM not working, I decide it was worth another go. Turns out the local BB just got a new shipment in. So, I actually went in and bought another one, before giving up the one I had. No red tint, the battery charger is nice and tight, it clicks right in and starts charging, and, the HRM actually works. I don't know how well yet, but decidedly better than the last one which wouldn't record more than a few seconds. This one successfully recorded HR for 15 minutes continuously without any freezes. So, more testing to do on the HRM, but, so far looks like it was a good decision to go back for another one. Already took the other one back and got the refund. :fingers-crossed:
Cool. I am tempted by this watch but it looks like it's a lotery to have a good one (not red tint, good battery...)
Yeah, I think Huawei has some QC issues. Now, whether the watch I just got came from a different batch, and they did something in the interim to fix some of the problems, or if it is just a hit or miss thing, hard to say at this point. If we start getting a lot of reports of more recently purchased watches having few problems, that might suggest the former. The battery issue could still crop up though. This watch out of the box seems to be getting much better battery life.
