glad you're with us
I will assume its another marvelc Once your s-off'd, rooting is a breeze. Here's a rootimg shortcut guide for any MetroPCS friends:
1. Go to market and download un-rooting
2. Ignore Chinese subtitles
Roots and unroots our phone quick.
Rob
did I read you guys got a 2.3.5 OTA update? makes finding a RUU urgent
Did I spy that MetroPCS got a 2.3.5 OTA update? You'd be the first marvelc devices to get it. Sadly no OTAs will install s-off; so, anyone found RUUs they want to share they've found for any marvelc phone? ::crickets::
Well, in the meantime if anyone cares fot it, [has s-off'd on MetroPCS and run a nandroid shortly thereafter], I can make you a flashabe stock like VM USA and US Cellular [just pm me if you'd like]. I could also make an update if someone s-offs after updating to 2.3.5 It would complete the trilogy ::shrug::

Guys, My Desire is a standard Voda unlocked one, unrooted and I have thankfully NOT downloaded the latest bloatware from VF. I'm going to the USA and Canada this weekend and I want to know if:
1. It's possible that I may offered the chance to update to 2.2 when I'm on an overseas network (using wifi)
2. Should I do it if the offer is there - is there any risk of the phone not working with VF when I get back to the UK?
Root your phone using UnrEVOked, and then apply a rooted 2.2 update manually.
Given that the new hboot from the OTA is currently unrootable, it will give you so many more options down the line.
Regards,
Dave
I don't really want to root to be honest. I'd like to try and stay with all the official updates as I don't feel comfortable doing this to my phone in case I screw it up!
Anyone help with the original question?
Got an HTC Desire from work on O2. We had it unlocked the other day by O2 and I'm now running it with an Orange SIM. I thought that once unlocked Froyo would be available but when I check the software update I'm shown that I've got 2.1 running and no updates available.
Help!

You've probably got a branded desire, you would need to flash an unbranded rom and then search for updates I think.
Hi mate,
If you use the Root meathod by search the forum for Unvolked meathod install the recovery program by following the guide, then putting the flash zip update froyo rom from this forum on your sd card, backup using nandroid then flash and when phone restarts you have updated 2.2 android on the phone.
Any problems send me a msg.
i dig out some instructions for you, that i followed, the guys on here are excellent when it comes to helping you, see my post help please, in development sections.
Post below :
www.rootmydroid.co.uk then click "desire" on the right

Yes. That would be the quickest way to get Froyo 2.2.
It will also void your warranty though.
That is true, however HTC state if you root your HTC at your own risk,
but my phone provider stated if i have any problems they don't check.
Im with Virginmedia. mobile. who are putting the rom out next month and your have to download and zip so you will need to root it to do that.
Thanks
Tapper
Was wondering if i used a Completely stock Rom/Kernel except the rage method of rooting (clockwork backup) and get update OTA updates will I get in a Loop or brick situation after i've done gfree radio off sim unlock and CID?
Or does gfree stay till i manually remove it from my phone?
EDIT: Also I don't plan on taking s-off or root off just want to use the stock rom and get updates via Tmobile again =X
We can't really answer this, because we don't know what changes T-Mo might make in an OTA in the future.
For example, on the Desire Z, the latest OTA (1.72) doesn't un-do gfree, so that sticks. But maybe a later update will change that, who knows ?
There are unknowns/risks about applying any OTAs/updates if you have root/S-OFF. The phone is intended by HTC/T-Mo *not* to be rooted/S-OFF, so it shouldn't be suprising if they try to come up with new methods to prevent us from doing root/S-OFF and/or undoing it.
Ok thanks for the reply =)

the download link is up on HTC's Site, not US Cellulars yet. If I run this RUU, am i going to be able to root again? with unrEVOked? or will i have to wait for them to make a new unrEVOked for 2.2 for my device?

for those of you who would like to pick it apart and make me a newsense rom for my desire, (i have been waiting for this deliciousness for a long time.)
Go Go XDA-Developers!
It's not Sense 2.0, it'll just be FroYo

The update will remove your root, but if you are S-Off (unrevoked) you can get root back by flashing recovery, and then flashing superuser.
So with CDMA phones flashing a stock RUU doesn't remove S-OFF? Does with GSM handsets
How do you re-root this?
I am getting "Internal error: failed to unlock NAND flash?"
The download is sloooooooow. Won't be done till I'm already in bed. I guess I won't be trying it today.
Update: Downloaded faster than I thought it would. Flashed my Desire and didn't lose S-OFF. Ran Unrevoked3 again and it reinstalled Clockwork recovery and Superuser permissions. The S-OFF step in recovery failed due to an incompatible radio, but it was already S-OFF so overall the rooting was successful.
I'm on Ntelos (a regional carrier in VA), would flashing this royally screw my phone? Or should I just wait until (fingers crossed) someone makes a rom with this new software? Thanks.
I'm making a pre-rooted version of this ROM to go up tonight. It won't be tweaked, it'll be 100% stock but rooted and have A2SD. Once up I'll post the link.
I'm also going to be uploading the RUU to mirrors later on as well
EDIT: I'll try take out the USCC apps as well (if any) - or move them to the data partition instead
Any chance you could de-odex it as well? I would love to get Super Circle Battey back. I miss it from my Hero. Thank you!
Yep, it's deodexed - it's all done just gotta get home and upload it as my work upload is terrible!!
Thread is already up so keep an eye out later on today (your time)

Well aren't you on the ball? Thank you so very much!
As I say in my thread it is a test build as I don't have a CDMA phone but as I've done nothing other than move the Market apps to the /data partition it should just work. Someone will have to test for me, though
this update is only for cdma desire cdma us cellular?? I have desire cdma open mobile from puerto rico
any rom with sense 2.1 for desire cdma (bravoc)?
any stock rom for bravoc from cox?
Hi, I regret to say I am a noob. I have read around for the past few days and have a general idea of rooting and flashing ROMs.
I have a branded T Mobile DHD and I not only want it debranded, but I want it to function as if T Mobile never touched it. That is, I want to be able to debrand it once and then receive OTA updates direct from HTC when they are released (all the way up to the eventual ICS).
I have two main questions. One, can I replace the T Mobile ROM with the Stock HTC one without root and without a custom recovery (that is, installing the stock ROM using the stock recovery -renaming it update.).
Two, do I need to change the CID to HTC__001 to enable future OTA updates?
There may be things I have missed. Please point me in the right direction if this is the case, cause the info I've found isn't as specific as I'd like it.
Thank you!
Unfortunately not sure if there is such a thing. I have rooted and used custom ROMS and in the end went back to my providers RUU. I find even though some bloat ware the software is fast enough bug free and battery life is very good. Search the net maybe find your answer there.

I should have clarified, I'm using a T Mobile DHD off ebay with a 3 sim. The reason I want to have a clean DHD is primarily so I can be free from waiting on T Mobile for updates. The reason I want to be clean and have OTA direct from HTC is because I've always been happy with stock, unbranded ROMs.
Thanks though.
Is there no way of completely restoring the DHD to a purely unbranded state so that it functions as a factory bought one?
I read this
"If you're coming from a branded ROM and just want to debrand, you can stop here. By reverting back to an unbranded 2.2 ROM, you will now be able to receive OTA update straight from HTC without any network bloatware. You can continue with the root process, but it is not recommended you download OTA updates when rooted."
on androidforums, the thread "How to root and install a custom ROM on the Desire HD" (I can't post links)
Which is what got me thinking about debranding and leaving it there, but reading up about CID and OTAs I got confused, wouldn't mine still be T Mobiles and not HTC__001 after downgrading? It'd be great if someone could explain how simply reverting back using a goldcard results in successful HTC OTAs.
Or I could just root the phone and install HTC WWE ROMs as they appear online.
What would be best?
You would have to gain root/soff/supercid first after that you just simply flash the unbranded ruu.
It should be doable, I would imagine all it takes is setting the proper CID/MID and flashing a WWE RUU, and never rooting/installing custom recovery.

Could I use the Advanced Ace Hack Kit to give me those permissions, then using the Kit revert it to a WWE RUU?
If not, I'll try rooting then installing a RUU separately. I know how to install ROMS from zip files through recovery, how do I install a stock exe RUU on a rooted phone?
Reverting back to son unbranded to me would be an unnecessary step. This is what I would do.
1)use the hack kit to get supercid/soff
2) flash the unbranded ruu
3)done
To flash an ruu, you would simply just run the program from your PC with your phone connected
