Anyone notice you cannot dial *228? For me it always says call not sent.

4G phones dont use *228
I've heard rumors that Verizon's 4G phones are updated automatically every once and awhile via the SIM card. No clue if it's true or not, though.
Correct, *228 was disabled on any of the newer 4G devices and it just screws things up when 4G users did it.
Yep.... 4G phones on VZW use SIM cards now so you do not have to dial anything. Just insert SIM that has been setup with VZW then power up phone and it will automatically activate within a few minutes of booting up.
Noticed when I swapped my t-bolt over to my wife's number that after booting up it dialed *22899 on it's own to activate. Not sure if this is a new way to update roaming and what not but the phone did it on it's own after inserting the new SIM.
What stinks is once you deactivate a SIM it can no longer be used so you have to get a new one from a VZW store or have one sent to you.
Well I might have screwed my new Nexus up, although I'm not noticing any problems so far.
I had *22899 saved in my contacts from my last phone and it does update the PRL if you dial that number. I was on PRL 14008 (Alltel PRL) and now I'm on 40086 which is the same PRL my last phone used (HTC Incredible).
It appears I still have 4G but I know that is not the correct PRL for this phone. Anyone know how to get it back to 14XXX? If I do a factory reset will it go back? I've tried pulling battery and sim out for a few minutes but it didn't revert when I powered my phone back up. Should I be worried?
Edit: Never mind, was trying a few things and somehow got back to a normal PRL (14010). More than likely just waited long enough for it to do its normal refresh.

Hmm...going to have to disagree with you on this one. *228 and *22899 don't work from the Nexus at all...displays the "Call Not Sent" message. This is true for pretty much all Verizon 4G phones. I tested both just before posting this to make sure...even though it was this way a month ago.

You can't dial them using the dialer but if you have them saved as a contact it will let you do it that way.
The prl has auto updated for some time. Even on 3g phones.

I haven't seen this. But my phone did try and dial out that *22899 last week. Then when I try to dial it and wouldn't work. I'm wondering if the 4G phones have some kind if auto-PRL-update or something.

Im sorry but did you even read any of the previous posts? Add *22899 to your contacts like you would be saving a new contact. Dial out that way and it will work. Or you could reboot your phone and it will auto update PRL location, or you could pull battery, pull SIM and wait like 5mins then reinstall.

About 2 weeks ago my phone stopped receiving SMS on the reg. They are ranging anywhere between 20 min to 2 hours to receive. There is no delay when I send to people, just on the receive. I've flashed back to sense and did a PRL and Profile update then restored CM 7.1. Sprint just says it's due to high usage due to the weather...not buying it. Weirdest thing about it being my wife's phone has the same issue and it developed at the exact same time. Running cm7.1, clockwork and savagedzen 2.2.1 BFS HAVS on both. I've also tried flashing to tiamat 4.0.7-799 w/sbc and same issue. Up to any suggestions
Is the wife using an EVO? Try a different ROM combo for a few days and see if this helps. How about CM7-RC1 after a full wipe?
You'll find the sweet spot
Grab the app Gingerbread SMS Ghostly, has grabbed quite a few lost texts for me.
https://market.android.com/details?id=it.sineo.android.GhostSMS&feature=search_result
Tried ghostly. Didn't work. The messages seem to come through if I place a call. I've resorted to calling my voicemail to check my text lately. I'm using 7.1 rc1. I did flash sprint lovers rom and sent myself a text with no luck either. Are there any network settings with sense based rom that can be checked/modified?
Sent from my Evo using XDA App
You will probably have to call sprint and be cranky, as its most likely a network issue.
They've reset my data a few times now and claim they've done all they can. I had the call escalated the last time and nothing really came of it. Seems like when I call them with the issue the text come through within 2 minutes. They claim anywhere up to 30 min is considered not an issue. Its BS. Since cellphone met text it's been near instant. My crappy Nokia block phone did just fine. I could understand if there was a national emergency but there is no reason for any lag. Ill call them again tomorrow. My wife sent me a message at 753pm and it is currently 10, No message

Did u change/update PRLs around the same time this started happening? Sprint changed a bunch of PRLs recently and now some people get terrible data. PRLs are mostly location based. So due to contracts with other carriers, your phone may be connecting to different towers and data is routed differently. Try a different prl for the hell of it
Sent from my HTC_supersonic using xda premium
no, hadnt made any changes to the phone. played around with a few prls and radios and no luck still. so far sprint has managed to give me $50 credit but no working phone.
I don't really know then man. Hmm. Try a data profile reset from the epst menu. ##3282# enter your msl, hit edit go to data profile and hit menu and then restore.
The phone will reboot itself and renew its data profile connection and prl etc all in one shot. Aside from that, I would think its a network type issue. Especially since its both of your phones.

Well...basically did that with my phone while on the phone with sprint last night. sat on the phone for 76 min (40 of that being on hold). I was using her phone to make the call. Got disconnected after all was said and done. Tried to call sprint back via 611 and automated message told me my account could not be authenticated or something to that nature. Long story short had to rerun activation using EPST reset. Her phone now works. Flashed it back to CM7.1 rc1 and hers is working correctly. Going to try to flash back to sense today on my phone and let it work its way through the reprogramming and I'll place a call or 2 from sense and wait a few before flashing back to CM. Thats the last thing i can really think to do.
On another note, I have found a temporary work-around on my issue for my phone. Google Voice has an option to intercept text messages. I turned that on and google voice gets them instantly. Only thing annoying is I dont have an SMS count anymore. ADW notifier will show a "?" on the icon for google voice. I guess that notification marker will do for now. Other than that, its a tolerable solution til i find the real one.
Sorry homey, I know it can be frustrating. But yeah try again with sense and see what happens. Best of luck.

I did a search and didn't find anything similar to my issue. I'm running EVO Classic ROM and have had no issues with texts until today. My texts just aren't coming through, and when I make a phone call I get a flood of texts. I've restarted my phone already.
Any ideas?

common things that could mess with txt msgs are airave, setting radio to cdma only and sprint towers acting goofy.
try checking ##3282# and see what evdo is set at. should be auto.
The same exact thing happened to me too! I thought i was the only one but guess not. I searched for answers here on line to figure out what the problem was and i never fixed it. I ended up having to unroot and take my phone into sprint and i got a refurbished Evo 4g for free.

I completely understand. I went through the exact same thing for over a month. Is there anything in particular you did to your phone right before it happened? Just wanting to see if we can try and figure out whats causing it

When I had the problem i chanhed roms like 7or 8 times and it kept happening on all of them, it wasn't an application causing it either because right when my phone booted up after flashing a rom, a would do a test call or text and my phone wouldn't ring. As soon as i placed my first call i would recieve the missed message.

It's usually because there's a problem in the area or the prl.

I had called Sprint several times and had them do everything on their end to fix it. They updated prl, profile, (ive also done this myself several times as well), they refreshed the signal on their end, they did about everything they could and i did everything i could do but nothing fuxed it. You can use Ghostly Sms from the market to catch the some of the missed messages, it didnt catch them all for me and it wont help withissing calls. Sprint also said it gad nothing to do with the area or towers and also my fiances phone is working just fine anyways.

Maybe you're right and Sprint just won't admit it..
Today the issue seems to have gone away, i'm receiving texts just fine now.
It's normally temporarily (24 hours-1 week) unless it's your prl. But like you said, just randomly went back to normal. Happened to me a few times on cm7.

my plr is 60686 near the Seattle area if that makes any diff...
missed a call from work and almost lost my job because of this... any help would be great...

Your post was a little hard to follow. You have used the one-click odin to go back to a stock rooted rom and are still having problems, is that correct?
Try this
##72786# then enter your MSL code then click okay to reset data. This will only reset and re-provision/activate your phone to Sprint. This will create a new profile on Sprints network and will give you any new network settings that may have changed in your area
1. Download "Terminal Emulator" from the app market.2. Open Terminal Emulator.3. type in getprop ril.MSL (make sure the .MSL is capitalized)4. Press enter and poof, you have your MSL code.
Helps to not use swype .....while doing this as Swype will capitalize the i in ril

So basically... Last week i was running ICS FD05 for a few days and then upgrade fresh install to FD10 ICS... Monday this week I missed a phone call around 5AM for my work.. didn't think about it much...
but yesterday I was having issues with getting text and sending them... with double sending and just not sending at all.. so I figured maybe its the new leak that messed up so I went back to stock rooted EL29 with one click (done it before several times) but went I went back it seemed that I cant make phone calls to my Voicemail or anyone else for that matter unless I was roaming...
I have tried flashing back to an ICS build and that hasn't helped... also I reinstalled a 60686 prl from a post in development (thought that my prl was corrupt) and also did a factory reset with my MSL number like Epix4g told me to do.
and No never used google voice at all.. was thinking about it after this fiasco... but staying away till i get a better picture of whats going on

FYI, I can relate with you. For the last several weeks I can't recieve phone calls or voicemails. The problem has been intermittent. Calls drop straight to voicemail and I'll get the visual voicemail notification hours later.
I can't blame this one on ICS, I've been using GB roms and it's happened on several (worth a try). But I swear it started happening after I thought I'd give Gvoice a try. Getting rid of it is a different conversation. I've been back and forth with Sprint a few times too. Just got off of the phone a few minutes ago because it happened again today.
Keep me apprised too.
I don't have any problem with gv but I don't inter grate it with sprint I just use the voice mail part ....when u first install just click skip and then go from there .... I hated it making u hit 1 to answer and the look of the text part ....it is OK for just voicemail though to me

and tdunham... all I have is a half ate bag of funyuns... sorry no wings for you!...lol
so im going to give sprint a few days to fix their tower before I give them hell for bad service... thanks for your help all
Update to my problem
So if anyone cares I still don't have a native signal from sprint in my house.. they say that are still working on it and cant find the problem... so sprint tech support sent me an Airave ... hooked it up today... I get full bars now and pretty clear signal (just don't stand in front of it) and best of all no fee and no monthly charges unless you have an issue with credit then they charge you 5 bucks a month
the only things that suck with this is that when you make or get a call it has 3 beeps (letting you know that you are on the Airave signal)
also if you are roaming you get the same 3 beeps but you have a triangle above your signal bars
but non the less no more dropped calls from my house and has built in GPS
So if you have a weak signal or or none at all this might be right up your ally.
It seems that you get your signal from your high speed internet so make sure you have that before getting an Airave... thanks for all your help!
It all started last night, my phone no longer connects to the Sprint network. When I try to make calls I get this error "The number or code you entered is incorrect" when someone calls me they get the same error. I have flashed a stock image through odin and its back on ICS but I get a SIM card error and the phone refuses to connect to Data. I am at a loss on what could have caused this but my phone is useless at this time and I am pretty pissed. My phone worked great no problem until I attempted to use Google Voice and that is when I lost Data and Voice function. I have removed my phone number from google, disabled GV and even changed my phone number but the problem still exists. If someone could shed some light on my problem I would greatly appreciate it!
PS: Sprint claims its a tower issue but my other devices work just fine.
Try ##72786# in the dialer. It'll force the phone to reactive everything

How is being rooted going to fix this?
I have gone 100% stock all the way to ICS. I then rooted, updated to MD4 including the radios and firmware. I have data now but still no calls or texting. I have edited the MDN and forced reactivation. They guy last night said it was a tower issue but I'm now 35 miles away and I highly doubt the same problem exists here. My girlfriends phone works no problems at all. It has to be an account issue but no one at Sprint cares to help...

If your data is working fine then I have to call it their issue for sure. Which would make sense as data could be working based off of account info rather than your number. Where as if you make a call your actual # comes into play. Could be wrong here just a theory. But best of luck I'll post if I think of something else but I bet u this fixes itself

Glad it's working and for future reference I found this looking on sprints site.
"Looking at the tower nearest you it appears to be performing properly When a tower goes down you will not hear any error message.* The message* is a function of the switch where the wireless system connects to the wire system.** Do you get the message with every number you call or just some numbers?* Can you call (888)-546-0314* That is a sprint test number."
Before I describe my issue, I'd like to state that I have searched high and low for answer to no avail. I am using a Sprint Galaxy Note II that has been upgraded to 4.3 stock. It was unrooted when my issue began, but I went ahead and rooted it to try and help my problem.
Two days ago I signed up for Straight Talk Bring your own phone. I entered the provided code which took me to the hands free activation. The activation proceeded successfully (my phone said success) until it forced a prl update. It says it fails (each time it tries the prl update) and immediately reboots the phone. Once booted the activation attempts again and repeats over and over unless I cancel before it gets to the prl update. Strangely enough if I try to make a call it says my phone has not yet been activated, and yet a few times after waiting I can make calls (verified they are coming from my new number), but no data functions. If I then try and complete the activation (the incomplete notification remains), I'm back to square one.
Straight Talk techs have assured me that my phone is active throughout their system and the sprint towers are having no issues. They say other Note II's have been successful. My phone is communicating with the towers as I get the LTE icon during activation.
As an experiment I activated a Samsung Galaxy 3 (never rooted) using the same method and it went through fine. It updated the prl and is now working like a champ. I am now at wits end with my Note. I have faith that all would function if I could get the prl to update and I haven't a clue how to get there from here. I have also been unsuccessful obtaining my MSL even after rooting. A little history on the phone is that it was active with Sprint and it was rooted at 4.1. I returned it to stock to take the 4.3 update.
If anyone can help it would be greatly appreciated.

If it's active in their system and if their systems are compatible with your phone then you should be able to update the profile and PRL with no issues. Make sure you're connected to WiFi. There isn't much else you can do short of cloning another phones information onto it but then you won't get LTE. Are you sure it's active on their system and not still attached to Sprint?

It is active in their system and unfortunately I don't have another phone to clone. My prl says 2010. It will not update over wifi or LTE. I've tried factory resets (before I rooted). I'm sure it's something with my phone. I just can't pinpoint it. The only progress I have made is that I did manage to extract my MSL. The reps at straight talk said my phone would use sprint towers to activate. Also I'm wondering it my note would use the same prl at the S3 I activated. Thanks so much for trying to help.
You can do *22804 and it should update the prl

Although I may be completely wrong here, I can only go off of experience saying I haven't had a problem updating the profile and PRL or getting service from a "flashed to" carrier, by replacing the original carriers settings. I've tried NUMEROUS Sprint and Boost Mobile PRLs on my phones (I've had a EVO 4G, S2, Nexus, EVO LTE, and Note 2 on Boost...yeah I change phones a lot) and never had an issue getting Boost Mobile service since they use Sprint's towers.
First off, is the Note 2 still active on Sprint? CALL Sprint and verify this. I know if I try to activate a Verizon iPhone 4 on Page Plus that it'll default to Verizon OTA programming and pull that data when I WANT it to pull PP's OTA data via *228 (or *22890). Same thing may be applied here (except with update profile instead of *228). Secondly, is the phone's MEID the same as what you registered on the account? Although I think the L900 is set to show the OEM MEID in settings, I've seen some US Cellular (and maybe Verizon) phones that have shown the OEM MEID in settings but when hooked up in diag mode through the computer showed the real MEID which was completely different. Just something else to consider to make sure you cover everything!

I tried and it said the number or code is invalid. I will try again when I have a stronger signal. Uploading screenshot of phone connection specs. They look abnormal, but I am not an expert. I am running sprint stock 4.3 rom that was updated with kies. It is rooted but only after issue started happening. The phone number shown is not a number that I have ever had with Spring of Straight Talk

MMM I think I know what's going on here. You need to change your MDN and MIN to something other than 000000xxxx. I think that's forcing a HFA loop every time you boot the phone. Are you familiar with CDMA workshop or DFS CDMA tool? You'll need one of these to possibly fix your problem. Essentially, i think your phone needs to update the profile. This wouldn't be a big issue but I think HFA is strictly sprint and update profile won't work until you get rid of the HFA nag without disabling SprintDM. Check out the two programs I mentioned.

This might just work. I have CDMA workshop demo version but am unsure how to conduct the procedure. I really need to get it fixed because now hubby is in the hospital and has the s3. This is my only means of communicating with him when I'm not there. Wish I had the funds to just buy a note 2 that is unlocked but that is not an option right now.

If you're on a CDMA network, meaning your carrier didn't give you a SIM card, then having an unlocked phone does nothing for you. Straight talk might be CDMA and GSM though, never looked too much into it. Anyway, you're going to need to dial ##DIAG# in your dialer to bring up the "port" menu. Leave it on PDA and select Qualcomm USB settings or something along those lines. You should be at MTP. Switch it to DM+Modem+ADB. Plug your device into your computer. In device manager you should be able to see which port your computer assigned to it. If you have to, change the port number to be COM25 or under. Go into CDMA WS, connect to the port, send the password: 2012112120131219 and your SPC. Go to NAM1 and read. You should see your MDN and MIN are kind of zeroed out. Replace them with something other than zeros, like MDN: 7737777777 MIN: 3122222222. Reboot your phone. HFA nag should've gone away (if you're on 4.3). Now you should be able to update your profile WITHOUT having to go through Sprint's HFA, and after it grabs everything it needs, you should be on Straight Talk.

Tried the above but got lost on MIN. (is this the same as MSID?). Didn't find MIN anywhere. This is what I did try and it may have worked..so far, so good. I changed my number via the Straight Talk automated. I then tried the HFA which failed again, so I went in and maually programmed my username, MDN and MSID. I then tried mms and making calls and it worked. I then used root explorer to get rid of HFA by deleting the Sprint update apk. The prl 2010 remained and Sprint Zone says it is current. My only issue is that internet does not work though mms does. That is an issue I am now going to try and tackle. For the record, internet also does not work on the S3 that completed the HFA and prl update successfully. If anyone has any ideas on how to fix that I am open for suggestions. Thanks for your help on this. Please see screenshots..
Yes MIN is the same as MSID. You needed to program the numbers through a CDMA flashing program to get rid of the HFA nag. Now that you've programmed them through the phone...I'm not too sure how you're going to deal with the HFA. Yes, you disabled it, but you also disabled the ability to update the profile which is what you need to do for your data to work...
Success!
Success!! Here's what I did...Found an old Sprint prl file and copied it to sd card. Flashed Digiblur Rom which includes ability to write a prl file in settings. Used root explorer to go in and rename Sprint Update apk so that it would temporarily deactivate. Updated prl to the one on sd card through Digirom. Went back in and "reactivated" Sprint update apk. This activated the HFA immediately and promptly updated the profile and prl to the correct one for sprint (since straight talk BYOP uses those) and voila.. voice, mms and internet are now working perfectly. The issue seemed to be that HFA was changing MSL to 0000006503. Simply correcting it was not enough. I had to roll back the prl to make it update correctly. It updated it back to the 2010 that it was before and updated the profile as well. I like Digiblur Rom but decided to go with Paranoid Android rom instead. I'm loving it. May try a 4.4 next. I'm running Kit Kat on my Nexus Tab and I like it. Until this fiasco, I hadn't rooted my Note 2. Forgot how much fun roms can be. Used to play with them all the time on my HTC Evo. See screenshot of my success; unfortunately showing 3g in screenshot. LTE is spotty in my area so at times I'm reduced to 3g inside my home but I'm on wifi at home anyway.

Im happy this worked for you. I believe you have to have an older Android OS to make the trick work. My question is, how can we make this work with a 4.4.2 OS? Much thanks in advance.

My community rom (4.4.2 tw) has the ability to write prl via ##data# then view knot edit).
Sent from my SPH-L900 using XDA Premium 4 mobile app
Samsung Galaxy S3 (L710)
On both of my L710 (S3), the write PRL option was not showing. So ##data# didnt work for me. I had to install this app:
https://www.dropbox.com/s/32jc7i0w2fa2oxw/PRLWUnhide_S3_MA6.zip/
This made it so I was able to see that function.
Here are a bunch of PRL files. I believe the latest is 25018. If its not listed there, just do a search for the zip file:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=35576100
I was able to update the Profile and PRL after writing the TEST.prl file.
However, that didnt seem to solve my problem.
No 3g/4g, with HFA loop, with FreedomPOP as my provider (SPRINT MVNO).
I get a "unable to establish a data connection" error MIP:67 on one of the phones when trying to activate.
On the other phone, I get the notice to call customer care (SPRINT).
I believe this to be an ICCID issue, but I cannot confirm this:
https://community.sprint.com/baw/thread/143514
Pull up your dialer, punch in ##72786#. Let the phone go through its little process, then try to update prl and profile.
I am currently using a sprint note 2 on straight talk, had the same issue, and that's what I did to fix it.
