So my screen dims by it self periodically and the goes back to normal. Any one else have this happen? It has happened on multiple roms.
OK, so I see my finger over the ambient light sensor does it, but but also does it on its own too.

Menu | Settings | Display | Brightness | Automatic Brightness (Uncheck) | Ok
That should fix it.

I've been playing the new Angry Birds Space today, and I've been noticing something very annoying. The way you hold your phone while playing games like Angry Birds, your thumb is constantly moving in and out of the view of the ambient light sensor, subsequently causing the screen brightness to always be changing from dark to light and back. Is there anyway to set up screen brightness settings on a per app basis?
Currently running Calkulin's E4GT v2.9.2
Not to my knowledge. I just go to display settings and uncheck auto brightness.

Probably what I'm going to have to do. There are plenty of apps/widgets that allow me to toggle the screen brightness settings and all, but I was hoping there was a way to do it automatically on a per app basis so that I didn't have to worry about forgetting to turn auto back on.

Updated to stock ICS last night. Today I came across a glitch.
On Gingerbread, whenever the screen goes off it smoothly dims off. On ICS, it now dims with 2 clicks (like it dims half way, then goes completely off). The glitch kicks in when I turn on the screen, sometimes it doesn't come full brightness (the brightness that I have it set on). When that happens, I have to go into settings and touch the brightness bar for it to go back to normal. Anyone else noticing this?
Also fyi, I have auto brightness off.

Turning screen off has been like that on ICS. Turning on, mine is fine. I have seen what you are describing when using stock browser.

Is it possible to decrease the backlight of the phone even further than the minimum (for using in bed)? I tried modifying the min brightness setting in build.prop and it makes the brightness slider go further down, but it doesn't actually get any more dim. Is there any way to set this other than using a "screen filter"-type app. Thanks!
Yaab from the market, try it out

use and app called screen filter. it places a transparent layer over the screen and dims it further. it works better on amoled than on led lit screens since amoleds don't use a backlight. with led backlights it doesn't dim it, just darkens the images (backlight level remains the same).
I can't remember why I settled on Display Filter instead of Screen Filter. But there's another option for you.
Has anyone noticed stock auto brightness is equal to the LOW setting? The only thing it does, whether it's a dark room or bright room is flip the brightness to LOW.

no, i think auto brightness is too bright for me in most of the time? did your case block the sensor?

I don't have a case yet.
I agree that auto-brightness is too low. I manually set the brightness.
I agree the auto brightness is pretty low. However I like it, and it saves battery.

The auto brightness is to high for me too. In low light conditions if I turn off the auto setting I can force the screen lower.

I notice when the screen dims especially on auto dim that the screen flickers or strobes like the tail lights on cadillacs, I cant read any thing easily. The best way to see it is to quickly scan from the top of the screen to the bottom or vise versa in a dimly lit room, you will see a stepped image.
That's why I haven't used stock auto-brightness since my last HTC phone. I've used third party apps to control my brightness, since I had the original Note. Lux is my favorite. So much control over the brightness settings. You can control the lowest brightness setting the phone will hit in addition to numerous other variables. Works really well for me.
Mine works flawlessly. It usually is set at the lowest setting until needed to be boosted.
This gorgeous screen still suffers from being too damn bright in the dark! Needs a filter on it so your retinas don't burn in the dark.

I had to use lux auto brightness to lower mine it was very bright. You might want to use it to increase yours if it's low .
Hi All,
Is there anyway to adjust the 4 brightness levels of the brightness toggle? One of my toggles is set to 0 or 1. My baby was playing with my phone and the screen went black. I thought he had screwed my phone so I ended up LNGPST back to ZVC. Didn't help. Couldn't figure it out. Finally, I tilted my phone at a certain angle and could just barely see an outline of a box. I realized the brightness was all the way down. Unfortunately, I couldn't see enough to turn it back up (even in pitch black room) but I pulled down the notification area and haphazardly was clicking on the screen until it turned up.
Anyways, I would like to adjust the minimum brightness toggle so I don't have to do that again. Any ideas?
Thanks!
Are you using stock?
