Updated to stock ICS last night. Today I came across a glitch.
On Gingerbread, whenever the screen goes off it smoothly dims off. On ICS, it now dims with 2 clicks (like it dims half way, then goes completely off). The glitch kicks in when I turn on the screen, sometimes it doesn't come full brightness (the brightness that I have it set on). When that happens, I have to go into settings and touch the brightness bar for it to go back to normal. Anyone else noticing this?
Also fyi, I have auto brightness off.

Turning screen off has been like that on ICS. Turning on, mine is fine. I have seen what you are describing when using stock browser.

Screen Brightness: I have set the screen brightness to medium and and timeout to 60 seconds. I have started to notice that it will change the settings on its own. I will notice the screen is dim then look at the brightness setting and it will be set to minimum. Another thing that is driving me crazy is that it will dim the screen if you don't touch it regardless of the screen time out.
I have also noticed that sometimes when typing the screen does not follow were the words are going.
Other than these two minor pet peeves I absolutely love this phone. If it had a vag it may replace my wife.
The screen dimming is probably done by u. If u run your hand back and forth at the bottom of the notification bar it will change your brightness. Auto brightness has to be off. Its a cool feature that the original epic had.

u might want to disable the "power saving mode"... i had the same issue as u, but it seems to be fine since i disabled power saving mode
That's the thing I have my settings to auto brightness off
Edit: I will try turning the power saving mode off
Did not know that about the notification bar dimming the screen that's a cool feature.

Thanks I bet the notification bar might be it. That is awesome, I can't believe I didn't know that yet.
IF your in the internet browser that came with the phone and you turn up your brightness all the way and then you notice while your look at page all of a sudden your brightness will go back down to like 10% I found out the culprit.
the browser has a BROWSER BRIGHTNESS option in the menu. you can turn auto on or theres another slider there and it appears factory setting is all the way left or lowest.
this was pissing me off today while I was waking in the sun, I thought I had my brightness on all the way but with in 5 seconds while look here on XDA, the brightness kept going back down on its own and I do not have auto on. the thing I was doing to get it back up bright again was to do the notification swipe to the right and that would only temporary fix it.
I can't say I've ever seen an issue like this.
When booting up, the EVO's Sprint animation works just fine. But any time Full Brightness is requested, the back light simply quits working. Such as HBOOT, or even from within Android. Lowest, and medium brightness work. But full brightness the back light just instantly turns off. Then I can just hit it one more time to put it on lowest settings.
Not sure if it could be actual firmware, or a hardware issue. Not sure if I should replace the LCD or the backlight coil.
Thanks
Have u tried a battery pull to see if it will correct it

My old Nexus 7 2012 flicker as hell when the brightness is totally dark with low wifi signal active. I wonder if the new one has the same problem???
My tablet flicker when:
1. Weak WiFi signal.
2. Backlight dimmed to under 30%.
3. A program that constantly accesses the net. Such as Google Maps.
Thanks
Mine does, oddly I think I'm the only one experiencing it.
Turn off auto-brightness if its on.

I tried that, put brightness to about 30%, then bam, my backlight shut off! Took me forever to turn the brightness above 30% to get it to come back on again.
On the new 2013 Nexus brightness at the completely lowest setting is never completely off! It should just barely be lit but in a dark room you can clearly see the screen even at the very lowest setting. I keep mine at way under 25 percent, or much less than a quarter of the way and its comfortable enough to read indoors. I also keep Auto Brightness turned off and don't get any flicker.

Hi All,
Is there anyway to adjust the 4 brightness levels of the brightness toggle? One of my toggles is set to 0 or 1. My baby was playing with my phone and the screen went black. I thought he had screwed my phone so I ended up LNGPST back to ZVC. Didn't help. Couldn't figure it out. Finally, I tilted my phone at a certain angle and could just barely see an outline of a box. I realized the brightness was all the way down. Unfortunately, I couldn't see enough to turn it back up (even in pitch black room) but I pulled down the notification area and haphazardly was clicking on the screen until it turned up.
Anyways, I would like to adjust the minimum brightness toggle so I don't have to do that again. Any ideas?
Thanks!
Are you using stock?

Is anyone having dimming problems with there screen? For instance, when I'm on the browser, and want to swipe the screen upward with my finger the screen dims out right when I slide my finger without even messing with the brightness slider. It happens even on FB. The only way to bring up the brightness back is to turn off screen with the power button and back up or move the slider on drop down.
Anyone having this similar problem? Thanks.

I have issues where the screen doesn't adjust based on ambient light.
I am assuming you dont have auto-brightness turned on, do you have the same issue when it is on?
I haven't tried that. Bit its the screen that dims down by itself when I touch the screen. I did a factory reset when I was NF4 and update to NF9 and the problem is still there.

I don't know if this is the same as yours, but few times, when screen is close to it's time out, it dims to tell me so, now if I want to keep screen on I would swipe or touch it, most of the time it will go back to normal, but in very few cases, count down timer will reset, so the screen stays on, but the brightness doesn't come back, screen will stay at low power and I need to double click power button, to turn the screen off and on to get back proper brightness. It's very rare, haven't seen it since my update to NF9 week ago, but I've seen it. No big deal since it's rare and easily fixed with double click. If your problem is not time out related, then I have not seen it. Either way I would speculate it is software related, somehow screen brightness register is improperly or not updated at all. It doesn't bother me at all, but if it was I would probably try factory reset after full backup.
