Try flash custom kernel with stock rom? I'm looking to keep my phone in stock, but flash a custom kernel so that I can OC/UV to increase battery life. So can I do this?
You can also flash a different ROM that is the same as stock. Then just make sure its a sense kernel and you should be fine but I see no reason as to why that wouldn't work be sure to backup first.

I have the new Froyo on my Droid Incredilble and was thinking about trying a different Kernel to try and improve battery life. My question has 2 parts
1. What would be best kernel for this?
2. Do you lose any data when replacing the kernel? Will I have to put all my stuff back on phone after replacing kernel and is the replacement simply done via clockwork in recovery mode?
Thanks for all your help and suggestions
The kernel is all personal preference. Flashing a kernel does not require you to wipe anything nor does it remove anything. A nandroid backup is highly recommended though.

I am also trying to find a download of the stock kernel for froyo so that I can revert back if I want but have not found one yet.
So my girlfriend finally let me root her. I mean her Evo. LoL. She won't let me flash a custom rom however but I have done a few things like a custom kernal and V6 supercharger without her knowing. She wouldn't know where look to find that out any way. Can someone recommend a rom that will look stock as possible and everything works. I'm trying to save her battery most of all. Maybe later I will tell her it's custom but for now I want to keep it a secret. Thanks for the help guys.
Stock ROM
LOL...that's funny. Well, think you answered your question yourself, you already have a stock rom. But, if your looking for battery life I would try something simpler:
1. Use Lithids freedom kernel
2. calibrate battery
3. Use Juice Defender
4. Install Amon Ra recovery do a nandroid for sure
Hopefully you can twist her arm and have her try a custom rom for her next step.
There are numerous stock rooted ROMs that have been tweaked and have boatware removed. Search and ye shall find
All the best

Team Nocturnal Stock, just switch out the boot animation if you want it stock as possible. Oh and paired with ChopSuey kernel or Agressive Freedom if her phone can handle it. And look at Juwe's memory script, I was very impressed and replaced V6 with it

I already have Calkulins E4GT 2 1.6 installed. If i wanted to try a different rom do i just install the new one and it should work?

Its always advised to wipe the phone clean when going from one ROM to another, you can usually keep your data when upgrading the same ROM

Wow, NO, don't 'just install a new one.'
There are some very good posts about how to properly switch ROMs - most of the ROMs OPs specify how they recommend you go about installing their particular ROM.
Some suggest going back to the EL26 Kernel, others the TWRP kernel and other the 'safe' kernels by Agat and Chris41G.
Choose your ROM. Read the developers recommendations AND read through the posts regarding that ROM. Failure to do so will leave you with poor performing phone or worse an expensive paperweight.
If you want to step up to the latest ICS stock try sfhub's one-clicks, since you are already on an ICS leak you could try the 'no-data' version and see if you can keep your data intact. Not always recommended but it's worth a try. Then use his Autoroot to add CWM with a safe recovery (Agat's).
Then use CWM to flash away - as long as you follow the developers advice.
Good luck.
would anyone have a zip for latest stock kernel?trying to avoid re-flashing rom an deleteN a bunch of stuff again!searched thread an couldnt find anything (sorry just a noob here)
look in the dev section.. there 2 or 3 factory image zips posted but i think they are deodexed and rooted
If the stock kernel is included in the ROM your using you can just reflash the ROM without wiping anything and it'll replace whatever kernel you flashed with the default one included in the ROM. You won't lose any data that way.

Related threads I found are old, for other devices, or have additional issues.
Using CM11, Philz Recovery.
I'm looking for current information on booting a temporary, rooted TouchWiz ROM from the external SD card that won't overwrite the current installed ROM; to be used for updating PRL, GPS, etc...
It would be great if there is a solution using my current recovery, but only a wish. I really miss having this utility from previous phones. Nandroiding to flashing and back is tedious.
The devil kernel has a function like this, dual boot, but it works for some and for some others it doesn't, works with aosp roms 4.4.* and TouchWiz 4.3 check it in the original development thread

Devil works best with aosp 4.3 and up. If you want a tw 4.3 it will work. You need to use devil kernel for both roms and use the devil recovery I modifed for our device. In the devil recovery you must enable selinux under backup restore.. advanced (I think) so your nands will work. All backups are done in cwm format only. If you need more info or help with devil just ask.
