LTE is technically AT&T as well, at least in some markets, but yes, I've heard the same rumors. That's what I'm trying to pin down, as Verizon's coverage in my area is spotty.

Lack of AT&T saddens me. Verizon has no coverage where I live.
God damn it, i don't care about verizon and their ridiculous pricing and lack of sim cards. Is this thing coming to T-Mobile?

This info. seems dated, as this phone passed the FCC approval listings for AT&T and T-mobile.

The FCC testing reports and official spec sheets that have been floating around show the proper bands for both ATT and TMO. So, you can just order it where ever...
For those that are new to this line of phones, the nexus series has always ended up on all of the major carriers. Just be patient. I'm just as excited as you all are.

Yeah, that's just outrageous. It's typical phone pricing before the phone is actually released. When the dist settles, nothing but good news will come from it. There will be no way that this phone will be over $600. I'm thinking that $529 will be the sweet spot.
This is pentaband phone. I don't know why you need a carrier to have the SGN. I would buy it out right use it whatever carrier your on. Don't need a carrier to subsidies it even though it will be as cheaper way to go.

Ok, I;m gonna go out on my NooB limb here and just ask...
So, lets just say the Galaxy Nexus goes Verizon only in the U.S. (I don't think this will be the case, but for $hits & giggles, lets just say that's what happens)... I would assume that this Verizon version would be the LTE version of the Nexus. Ok, so since Verizon uses CMDA, I couldn't purchase one at full price from Verizon and just stick my AT&T card in it an expect it to work, could I??
So the other option (in this imaginary Verizon/U.S. only world) would be to order a over seas GSM version, use my AT&T sim card??? If so, would I need a unlock code??
Sorry for the stupid questions... just trying to get all my ducks in a row, so I know what to do when the official carrier info. is released by Samsung. This stuff just isn't my forte; usually just stick to a carrier phone, but am willing to make an exception in this case. Thanks.

Not all LTE use the same frequencies just like the GSM issue with AT&T and TMobile in the US or even among some European countries where a 3g phone from one country will only have EDGE in another country even though both are GSM/UMTS. I haven't seen anything with the LTE frequencies being used, but you can easily Google to find the Verizon versus AT&T frequency problems as many have commented on it...prior to the release of this phone that is.
Now, it may be possible for Samsung to include many/all LTE frequencies in one radio. That sure would be good for the end user.
I don't care how much it would cost either, I just hope one of the models is ported to sprint

If you were to import a GSM hspa phone, no worries. All nexus phones are unlocked. You can use any GSM carrier. Previous nexus were either T-Mobile compatible or att compatible. But it seems the Galaxy Nexus is compatible with all GSM carrier.

Seriously. I am contemplating switching to Verizon, but I just don't think that it is a good idea to switch carriers just for a phone. Guess I will just have to enjoy my E3D until the SGN comes to Sprint - if it does.

I'm in the same boat. My Sprint contract ended on Thur, my Evo's USB has broken off, so I'm in need of a new phone. I can move to Verizon - or perhaps stay with Sprint and grab a Galaxy S2 (and wait for ICS port).

I had been thinking of switching to Verizon for some LTE goodness, but then T-mobile had to go ahead and create a $30 no contract unlimited data/texting 100 minute plan (I never use minutes).

Actually all LTE phones require a sim card. I have the droid charge which has a sim thats needed for LTE

Is there any bew on a T-Mobile Galaxy Nexus? I know during the press conference they said that there wouls be an LTE and an HSPA+ version, so that would hint to a T-Mobile release but i was wondering if anything was official yet.

I think besides Verizon, TMobile will get it because the GN can support the AWS spectrum out of the box! That will be a huge point in sales

always the phones come to the US with similar price. It will not be more than 600$ without contract and almost 200 to 250$ with 2 yrs agreement. hopefully it comes to best buy as soon as it release.

I had the previous nexus devices on Tmo and I loved being on Tmo, when i got stationed up here in Montana i was so sad i would have to switch to VZW, but now i dont feel so bad
I'm 99% sure they will fire the fact in the presentation it had 42mbps support for HSPA+ and tmobile is the only US company for that plus it supports tmobiles bands and they always got the nexus first so I believe they will and hope so as well

Also the GSM version did get approved by the FCC about 1-2 weeks ago (LTE version has yet to come through) which is leading me to believe one of three things: 1 there will be no VZW exclusivity and they'll launch LTE and HSPA+ same day, 2 VZW will have limited exclusivity and be able to sell the LTE version in their stores while you have to order the HSPA+ from Google/Best Buy/or another retailer, or 3 there's an issue with the LTE version that they're still working out which is why it's still hush hush on a launch day. Either way, I will get a GSM version of this phone by the end of the year even if I have to import one from overseas.

Rumor has it that it will release on November 10 on Verizon first. Verizon may get exclusivity for a few months and then other carriers would get it as well. But thats just my two cents

No way.... They have to be competitive
I doubt it'll push $800 of contract. You can't use the prices from non-US retailers to gauge what it'll cost in the US because their prices include VAT and our dollar has fallen weaker than their currency. Instead look at what similarly priced devices are going for off contract and you'll get a better idea of what it'll be. I highly doubt it'll cost more than $600-$650 for the 32GB LTE version (GSM should be cheaper since Verizon charges a premium on LTE right now) and the 16GB version will likely be around $550USD off contract. I wish they'd hurry up and announce some official release dates and pricing so all these speculative pricing/carrier threads would die.
The 16gb version will probably be $529. I dont think many have contemplated the fact that google might be subsidizing the nexus line of phones seeing as the previous ones were $529. Im hoping a 32 gb gsm version is released and doesnt clock in at more $600.

3. if no to either of the previous, how can i convince my girl to leave att for verizon when she gets a discount at att?

Unlocked version will work on atnt. Why convince your girl to pay more with a crappy company just so you can get a phone? How would you like it if she convinced a guy to get with her and leave you because he had bigger....discount?

I'm on ATT as well and to be honest with you i've saved my pennies and am waiting for the unlocked version to come to US. If the nexus comes to att it wont be for a while. I also doubt that there will be an ATT LTE version of this phone. And thats not a deal breaker as there is no LTE coverage in my area from either of the big two US providers and I dont expect it anytime soon.

Houston is supposed to be lit up but i could care less. Lte battery life is horrendous. Its still early tech. And hspa+ is plenty fast as is and can be turned up faster and still do faster and better on battery than current lte. Lte phone probably wont be on my radar for at least two years. In the meantime, i hope the nexus can hold up for ~2 years.

No, the unlocked version does not have LTE. You'd be getting the HSPA+ version for use on AT&T. The only LTE version is CDMA/LTE for Verizon.
If you stay with AT&T, you surely won't be disappointed with the HSPA+ speeds.

i have the atrix, i know what hspa+ can do and it's fine. i'm starting to think it may just be better to wait for a ics handset next year, i have just always wanted a nexus and thought this was finally my chance, but i'm not gonna pay 800 bucks for a phone and not even get tech that will last over 6 months. sigh...such a beautiful phone though...pure...google...sob
AT& T gets (officially) nexii a few months later, so with patience LTE MAY be a reality (come spring). I personally think this is reinforced by the rumors/leaks of a US Cellular (who hasn't even began 4G LTE rollout- unless they cut a roaming agreement with Verizon) LTE GN.
Yes the unlocked HSPA+ one will work, but i think there is a reason why Verizon is the "exclusive launch" for the LTE version, and not just the exclusive carrier of the LTE version... I think there is a reason why that wording was chosen.

I'm assuming you're indicating that your only option would be importing a phone? I'd just wait a couple weeks and see if it will be available unlocked in the US. If it is, then you'll be able to pick one up under $600, and won't have to import.
As far as AT&T carrying it with a subsidy, I wouldn't put too much stock in that. I don't see it happening.

Ugh. I used to be with Sprint. Their plans are nice, but their coverage really isn't great, their 3G is abysmally slow, and their WiMax (even when you can get it) isn't worth the battery drain.

I'm assuming importing would be the quicker option as i don't see the US getting an unlocked version until verizon is done with it and by then other phones (quadcores) will be sporting ics and it won't matter. i want 4.0 pure and would prefer lte for the future but i don't see myself getting that this month unless i import. do you think differently?
I have to be honest...Im truly shocked it wasnt ATT trying to get exclusivity going.
They seemed Android lusty after iphone went to VZ. Dont know why they wouldnt go after the GN.

What I'm saying is we really don't know... anything. So just hang out a couple more weeks and see. Don't make some decision based on rumor and speculation. I don't see VZW having a long exclusivity (if any). I also don't see other carriers picking it up for subsidy. There's no money in the Nexus program (compared to made-for-carriers locked handsets with carrier bloat and control). I do see it coming to the US unlocked very soon though. Google has no reason not to.

i wish they would do what samsung has done with the galaxy s line. actually i wish they would all do this. the galaxy s is on all carriers (although with a few changes as the carriers feel they want to buy to be different). this approach is the start of one of androids biggest problems, splintering. if motorola, samsung, sony, and google gave all the carriers the droid, galaxy, ericson/expieria, and nexus lines to all carriers, splintering would be less of a problem. but carriers are to greedy and spend millions for exclusive rights on lines instead of puuting money into projects worthy of such funds (um, 4g). i am glad ics unifies android a bit more but i am still certain that hardware will still have to be worked with in order to work right that's why i think the gnexus has tried and true hardware instead of the latest and greatest...which is why i want the phone so bad. here is to the future of only a handful of android devices, one of the few things apple almost got right.

I am going to go ahead and call that there will be an official AT&T LTE model in as early as about two months, but no later than 6 months- with 5-6 months being more likely. (Sadly this seems like it will be well past the GN's industry-driving moment)
Path to this ASSUMPTION:
There was an official AT&T banded Nexus One launched 71 days after the T-mo version.
There was an official AT&T banded Nexus S launched 231 days after the T-mo one.
There has been a (possibly fake) leak of an LTE version on a regional carrier that has not focused on LTE (to my knowledge) yet- If there is a possibility it will go to them as LTE why not to a carrier that has (limited) LTE now? (also, as I acknowledge in an earlier post this is probably through a roaming agreement on Verizon's LTE network, but US Cellular would still have to market/talk about/make a big deal about it, and the fact that they haven't really hyped it tells me that it isn't ready yet)
AT&T's network arrived earlier than originally thought- phones on it were planned originally for 2012, as per their comments to questions at the Atrix4G announcement last winter. We now have two phones launched on the network. I am not saying they sped up network development for the GN (far from it- AT&T seems to hate the Nexii), but the network has been sped up and is now in place for the GN to take advantage of.
I say that 5-6 months is more likely because of three reasons:
Statistically (which if you know about statistics, this doesn't mean much), the average delay time (from device launch to AT&T specific launch) is 151 days.
AT&T does not trust/like having unlocked developer/Nexus devices in the hands of the masses on their network (they have lightened up on this somewhat lately), and so will push off the launch of an official GN as long as they can (as they have done).
Like the Nexus S (which had a delay time of 231 days), the GN is made by Samsung who seem to take a little while getting US phones out the door, and so the AT&T model will probably see a similar delay as the AT&T NS.
I should also add that I don't think AT&T has ever subsidized a Nexus phone- so don't expect them to with this one either. Like I said, they seem to hate the prospect of these unlocked developer phones running around on their network. Funny thing is, I have three friends who work for AT&T and all of them have the Nexus S, and they tell me all the time how much the engineers hate them having "open" devices. Craziness.
Hate on me if you want for feeding the speculation fire, but this is how I see it playing out. And honestly, despite my initial disappointment, I think I am fine with a wait time like that. I hope I'm wrong on it, but it will be fine.

There has been a (possibly fake) leak of an LTE version on a regional carrier that has not focused on LTE (to my knowledge) yet- If there is a possibility it will go to them as LTE why not to a carrier that has (limited) LTE now? (also, as I acknowledge in an earlier post this is probably through a roaming agreement on Verizon's LTE network, but US Cellular would still have to market/talk about/make a big deal about it, and the fact that they haven't really hyped it tells me that it isn't ready yet)
AT&T's network arrived earlier than originally thought- phones on it were planned originally for 2012, as per their comments to questions at the Atrix4G announcement last winter. We now have two phones launched on the network. I am not saying they sped up network development for the GN (far from it- AT&T seems to hate the Nexii), but the network has been sped up and is now in place for the GN to take advantage of.
I say that 5-6 months is more likely because of three reasons:
Statistically (which if you know about statistics, this doesn't mean much), the average delay time (from device launch to AT&T specific launch) is 151 days.
AT&T does not trust/like having unlocked developer/Nexus devices in the hands of the masses on their network (they have lightened up on this somewhat lately), and so will push off the launch of an official GN as long as they can (as they have done).
Like the Nexus S (which had a delay time of 231 days), the GN is made by Samsung who seem to take a little while getting US phones out the door, and so the AT&T model will probably see a similar delay as the AT&T NS.
I should also add that I don't think AT&T has ever subsidized a Nexus phone- so don't expect them to with this one either. Like I said, they seem to hate the prospect of these unlocked developer phones running around on their network. Funny thing is, I have three friends who work for AT&T and all of them have the Nexus S, and they tell me all the time how much the engineers hate them having "open" devices. Craziness.
Hate on me if you want for feeding the speculation fire, but this is how I see it playing out. And honestly, despite my initial disappointment, I think I am fine with a wait time like that. I hope I'm wrong on it, but it will be fine.

I get an upgrade at the beginning of next month. Should I get the GNex or hold out till the new nexus comes out? I know it hasn't been deemed official but google has been consistent. I'm on verizon so I don't get the unlocked goodness of the straight from google version. My other option is to get the S III but with a locked bootloader means a no go for me. I'd have to wait till december to switch carriers.

Either get the current nexus or wait till December.
My advice would be to wait until you can switch carriers in December. Get an off contract account and buy an unlocked nexus at that time.

In my area I only get to choose AT&T as far as carriers go and I don't really like them. T-mobile has very little coverage and the small regional providers all are buddied up with verizon.
Here's another question, does phone hardware really matter right now? I know the nexus is a little slower compared to the tegra 3 beasts but does it affect anyone at all? I used a droid incredible for 16 months mostly on cm7 and it never showed its age until apps got "prettier"...

If your eligible and don't want a locked s3 or a so called "non official nexus" then maybe switch providers. I dunno how early this upgrade is so there could be fees. If you want an s3 then switch as the bootloader issue might hurt you in the end. Or just run out your agreement and get a gsm nexus straight up as was mentioned already. That's how I got mine

Just the fact that Verizon and Sprint can't do unlocked phones and even though I could care less about 4g (I dont have it) its still an option. I'm just looking for advice on wether to upgrade to a 8 month old device or wait till samsung drop's their developer edition of the SGSIII
If I were you I would wait. There's already a workaround for the locked bootloader on the GS3 if you want it, but in the smartphone game, it's always best to wait and see. I wouldn't advise you to get the VZW Nexus when there could be several more updated options (MOAR NEXUSESSS) available toward the end of the year (if the rumors are true). And if not, the GS3 and GN will still be there for you but at cheaper prices.
In the smartphone games "waiting and seeing" is dumb, there's always going to be something better around the corner. Just get what you like at the time.
As for the nexus being 8 months old, I'd say it'll still be relevant for quite some time. I have yet to find any apps that it can't run flawlessly.

The unlocked GSM Nexus sells for $350. The Nexus 7 sells for $200 and $250. Do you really think Google is trying to profit off of hardware? That is not how Google makes their money. The could care less if you have a Nexus...as long as you are using google apps and search, they get paid.

I'm in the same boat as you but I'm already eligible for an upgrade and my contract with sprint ends in 2 months. I pretty much spent a whole day on here reading after purchasing the Nexus from best buy.com and ultimately decided to cancel my order. The Sprint GNex is getting the shaft because they won't be releasing source code and the only way to get updates is to either flash a port or wait for the OTA. And we all know how timely those OTA's roll out from Sprint. The dev's do an amazing job with what they are given but I need a stable/working phone and running leaks/ports isn't for me anymore.
I read through a lot of the ACS JB thread and it seems like lot of people are having issues with MMS right now.

I'm dumping sprint after my contract ends. I'm tired of paying about the same as everyone else but having the crappiest carrier/speeds. It's pretty sad when I'm getting .01Mb/s down AND up.
I plan on picking up the unlocked Nexus ($350) from the google play store and going with TMo. They currently have a pre-paid plan for $30 a month, no contract, 100 minutes, and unlimited text and data.
I don't ever talk on the phone so I don't care about the minutes. They do throttle after 5gb but I get the impression that sprint does the same thing if you are a heavy user, but that's just my theory.
Thanks for the info for those who offered it. Verizon may be exspensive and hardasses but its my best choice. As for my phone, if the SIII dev edition comes to existance I'll probably get that but the VZW gnex seems to be very limited when it comes to veriozn's habits...

At least the Verizon GNex got put back in the AOSP tree and source and binaries got dropped well before OTA.

So at least that means there will be more stable ROM's and possibilities since the Dev's can build directly from source and don't have to port.
If you are grandfathered in on Verizon's data plan then you may as well stay with them. Have they started enforcing the policy that you lose your grandfathered plan once you upgrade?
Since the Motorola Mobility merger is now completed (on paper) I can see the next Nexus device beeing a Motorola one which could take a while to happen. Since the GNex will probably at least even get the next Android after JB you're pretty much set with it, so get it!
Hey everybody my Verizon contract is up this year and I was wondering what other people's experience is with other carriers. I love having a nexus but I doubt VZW ever gets another one. Also, I'm grandfathered into unlimited data so I'd never be able to upgrade without paying full price.
To sum it up, what are people's experience with GSM carriers that have unlimited data? Do you think Verizon ever gets another Nexus?

only GSM carrier with unlimited data is T-Mobile, they offer unlimited and "limited" plans.
do i think verizon will get another one? i dont know, just wait and find out. next nexus devices will be announced soon.
regardless i wouldnt want a vzw nexus device as it isnt a true nexus device in terms of ota. if you dont get otas then vzw nexus is alright. (vzw still has to approve of the update before it gets OTA'd to VZW Nexus devices)

Unless you are a decision maker at Verizon or Google, it really makes no sense to speculate about future smartphone offerings. Do tech sites paint a negative picture for the future? Always, but that shouldn't matter if you are happy with everything in the present. There is no definitive details on the nexus line so wait and see is your best option.
Remember, when the galaxy nexus came out, it was announced that it would be exclusive to Verizon, and that turned out to be wrong in the end.
I left Verizon after being with them for about 10 years, for the Google Play GSM Nexus. I am using it on Straight Talk Sim (Att). I get updates, have no contract, have a lot of data, unlimited calls and text...and I am only paying $45 per month. Couldn't be happier. Verizon sux big time, I am so glad I don't have to deal with their BS anymore.

Pretty sure that this exclusivity was within the U.S. only as internationally phones were distributed.
I guess the contract ended and expanded to Sprint and ultimately their Play Store devices section.
I agree with you that exclusivity was stupid on both Google and Verizon's part. Never a fan on why two companies would even bother doing phone exclusivities.

Yup works on both AT&T and T-Mobile. HSPA+ (4G) compatible.
Line it up with a 2000 mAh extended battery (~$35) from shimshop on eBay. Comes with a extended battery cover that makes the phone feel much much much better in the hand.
Version will most likely be then first CDMA carrier to receive the nexus. Especially with the Optimus G launching on Sprint. I doubt ATT or T-Mobile will offer it subsidized on contract. That's leave Verizon or Unlocked versions

I switched from Verizon to T-Mobile to get the Sensation and then finally the Galaxy Nexus. I'm happy and I have no regrets leaving Verizon.
Main points are: having an unlocked phone with no contract gives me peace of mind. I hear people talk about their "contracts" all the time.. not having to worry about this is great. Verizon has good service, but T-Mobile's is no slouch for me. My service has been great.. and better in some areas where Verizon didn't work. And it's cheaper. Finally, my phone is cutting edge tech.. even after being a year old. I have the latest software and every feature I could ask for. It's also nice being able to go to another country, pop in a SIM and go on your way (if needed).
When I heard Verizon got the Nexus first after I left, initially I was upset.. but then I found out Verizon was still Verizon and they screwed the whole Nexus experience up the only way they know how. I'll never go back to that mess.
I switched to ATT and back to VZW, the service here in my area is just way better on verizon. On top of the service being better, 4G here is widespread and very fast, not even available with ATT.
I too left Verizon for Straight Talk. LTE is fast and sweet, but hspa+ is good enough for me. If I have to download something large I do it at home on wifi. I had the t-mobile $30 prepaid plan and their hspa+ speeds are amazing, but their coverage is very spotty where I live. I love not having a contract and also am paying less than half of what I paid Verizon.
