[Q] T-Mobile Galaxy Nexus?

Is there any bew on a T-Mobile Galaxy Nexus? I know during the press conference they said that there wouls be an LTE and an HSPA+ version, so that would hint to a T-Mobile release but i was wondering if anything was official yet.

I have no doubt that T mobile will get it, mainly because they were the only one to get the Nexus one and the first to get the Nexus S

I think besides Verizon, TMobile will get it because the GN can support the AWS spectrum out of the box! That will be a huge point in sales

I went last night to tmobile store to check on the SGS2. I really not wow with the phone. I really want nexus I sold my sensation for it. Now I am using Samsung Gravity old school I can't wait till this phone comes out to tmobile

always the phones come to the US with similar price. It will not be more than 600$ without contract and almost 200 to 250$ with 2 yrs agreement. hopefully it comes to best buy as soon as it release.

I'm hoping that Tmo will get it otherwise I'll go to verizon...

I had the previous nexus devices on Tmo and I loved being on Tmo, when i got stationed up here in Montana i was so sad i would have to switch to VZW, but now i dont feel so bad

I'm 99% sure they will fire the fact in the presentation it had 42mbps support for HSPA+ and tmobile is the only US company for that plus it supports tmobiles bands and they always got the nexus first so I believe they will and hope so as well

It's a pentaband phone as several have mentioned on other threads so even if it's the HSPA+ version is not sold in the US, you'll be able to import it and it'll work on T-Mobile's network. Also the GSM version did get approved by the FCC about 1-2 weeks ago (LTE version has yet to come through) which is leading me to believe one of three things: 1 there will be no VZW exclusivity and they'll launch LTE and HSPA+ same day, 2 VZW will have limited exclusivity and be able to sell the LTE version in their stores while you have to order the HSPA+ from Google/Best Buy/or another retailer, or 3 there's an issue with the LTE version that they're still working out which is why it's still hush hush on a launch day. Either way, I will get a GSM version of this phone by the end of the year even if I have to import one from overseas.

maybe it's a misplaced attachment to tmo...but like you said to switch to VZW is not a bad thing

Rumor has it that it will release on November 10 on Verizon first. Verizon may get exclusivity for a few months and then other carriers would get it as well. But thats just my two cents

No contract this phone will be pushing almost 800 dollars. It has some very expensive hardware under the hood.

No way.... They have to be competitive

I doubt it'll push $800 of contract. You can't use the prices from non-US retailers to gauge what it'll cost in the US because their prices include VAT and our dollar has fallen weaker than their currency. Instead look at what similarly priced devices are going for off contract and you'll get a better idea of what it'll be. I highly doubt it'll cost more than $600-$650 for the 32GB LTE version (GSM should be cheaper since Verizon charges a premium on LTE right now) and the 16GB version will likely be around $550USD off contract. I wish they'd hurry up and announce some official release dates and pricing so all these speculative pricing/carrier threads would die.

The 16gb version will probably be $529. I dont think many have contemplated the fact that google might be subsidizing the nexus line of phones seeing as the previous ones were $529. Im hoping a 32 gb gsm version is released and doesnt clock in at more $600.

You should be able to get a better plan if you use a unlocked phone. At least I did with t-mobile.

FWIW I talked to some guys at a corporate location and they do not think AT&T will be picking up the Nexus.
They said they've haven't heard any rumors/rumblings internally of any kind about getting it and that they've never carried a Nexus before and don't see why this one would be any different.
:/ Just relaying about inquiring about it. I went ahead and got a intl. unlock myself.

AT&T stores never carried a Nexus phone, but customers could get a subsidized Nexus S for AT&T from Best Buy.

Just grab one an enjoy. Live a little.

If you have the money I'd just buy it outright. Especially if when it comes to AT&T you'll be buying it full price anyways. You won't be saving that much and you'll be able to have the phone now, which is worth something for sure.
I don't know about later on, but AT&T definitely isn't getting this phone before the end of the year. It's all Verizon right now. So even if you're sure its coming to AT&T (who knows?) you can still buy it now knowing you're getting it months earlier.

I mean I'd buy it subsidized off AT&T and it'd probably be like $300 at most. This is a really tough decision.

I ended up using my upgrade to get an HTC Vivid for $75 then sold it for $400 and just put the $325 profit toward the Nexus. I'd say just go for it. This phone is a beast.

buy it now. save your upgrade. dont sign a contract. in 6 months+ when something better comes out, cuz you know it will, you will still have your upgrade.

The device that passed doesn't have the 900 Mhz, which has been causing problems on the unlocked GSM phone.. So that's one reason to wait for it. Another is if it does in fact come officially to AT&T, the price will drop significantly. Also, buying devices on the grey market is not for the faint of heart, I've got a Nexus S with the search button bug and Negri/Samsung/Google don't care because they don't have to.
In all likelihood you will see a late January/early February release of this phone and smart money is waiting

I'm on at&t as well and am waiting for one of 2 things. Either for it to come to at&t directly or for a significant price drop. I don't have a problem picking up the international version because when you turn around and sell it you'll likely get more since it can be used on any gsm carrier. The one major thing i'm waiting to find out though is if there are any plans to release a 32gb gsm version.

I didn't want to wait for the "next" big phone, so I just found the most expensive/free phone on at&t, used my upgrade to get it, then sold the phone on ebay...I picked up the HTC Titan for free at Best Buy on Cyber Monday, sold it for ~$500 and now have the Nexus Galaxy for cool $250 (what it would probably cost if it ever came to at&t).
...additionally I am selling my Nexus S and hoping to get a couple hundred and making the NG almost free.
Anyways, if you have an upgrade and don't mind the contract, just get the best deal on a phone you can sell...it's the only way I could have ever afforded my original N1, my i9020A NS and now GS.

19000T and i9100T went to Telus/Rogers in Canada and the i9250m went to Bell Canada. i9250m was the first GSN to pass the FCC and it's on sale this week exclusively from Virgin Mobile/Bell Canada.

I thought the same for rogers... paid way too much for mine. Couldn't care less... best purchase of 2011 for me personally.

The FCC reviews any device that could be used in the US.
Also, the volume "bug" is tied to 900mhz, but even if your device has the 900mhz frequency enabled in the hardware, it has nothing to do with whether or not you'll experience the bug. The problem arises when you actually use 900mhz. So even those of you who imported a GN to the US have 900mhz hardware, you're never going to use it on AT&T (850mhz) or T-mobile (1800).

I'm on AT&T and my Galaxy Nexus just arrived at my house from Expansys today.
I'm glad I went ahead and got it though it was well worth it now that I have it in my hands.

NS launched on T-Mobile, so it was the first carrier to fully have the NS.
It is rumored that Verizon has exclusivity rights to Galaxy Nexus within the states. Its exclusivity time is unknown.
Galaxy Nexus is a pretty amazing device overall. Been using it the past few days.

Expansys & Negri are pretty reputable.
I got mines from Negri for using the promotion code "vzsucks" (might of had expired by now) but you can try. Ships out of Las Vegas, NV.
Expansys I believe ships out from Chicago, IL.
Newegg ships from: New Jersey, California, or Tenn. (Unsure which one it is for the GN)

Got mine from negri, and I am with T-Mobile. Its great a little expensive but well worth it in my opinion. Honestly, I got some sort of a twisted satisfaction knowing that I had it before Verizon assholes got it.. haha. I was upset that it went to Verizon.

Same here, I was like ughhhh! the phone isn't as cool because other people will have it now.
But matter fact, I still have the smiles knowing mines says "Google" instead of "Verizon 4G LTE" on it

Agreed. I went into a Verizon store the day after getting it like 2 weeks ago and pulled it out in front of them. They were amazed, I almost nut my pants.

Nobody has any indication whatsoever that this phone is coming to T-Mobile officially. Honestly considering that the VZW version just came out yesterday, i wouldn't be holding my breath on a T-Mo announcement any time soon.

Honestly just buy the GSM version! I just did and can't wait for it to arrive!

With the Verizon device already down to $150 with a new two-year contract through Amazon Wireless, wonder if that will have any impact on whether a cheaper US version of the GSM Galaxy Nexus gets sold here. Maybe the only option will be to buy an imported GSM device. How soon before the import cost comes down to somewhere less than $600? When the quad core phones come out in the spring?

Amazon Wireless (and similar outlets) are selling brand new phones for around 1/2 their carrier price all the time. They're not discounting because of low demand, it actually makes sense for them to sell at that price. They get new contracts and extra ETFs out of it. It has nothing to do with the price of the GSM version or the version coming to the USA. Verizon has a set exclusivity time, and that contract between VZW and Google isn't going to change based on price.
I don't know how long it'll take for the import price to come down under $600, but it'll definitely be a little while. I bet you'll see it in the low $600's, but under $600 is damn cheap.

just get one imported.. or do like i did and get one in your city. i'm using it on t-mobile and everything works great! 4G/3G with better service than any other phone i've had. Yes!

Ive been waiting and waiting to upgrade as ive been waiting for the GNex to hit TMo but i havent heard any news lately, am i just missing news? Did they announce anything at CES?

Nothing...use your upgrade, sell that device on marketplace, craigslist or ebay + put additional money and get the unlocked gsm version.

I'm pretty sure it does. It should be "4G" capable on both At&t and Tmobile. I can definitely say it works on At&t

Yes its HSPA+ 21mbps pentaband (working on T-mo and AT&T).
They did not announce anything. There isn't even a rumor about a T-mobile release. If you want the GN, hook it up unlocked.

Pretty much what he said. The only phone that T-Mobile announced was the Samsung Galaxy Blaze 4G which is definitely not the Galaxy Nexus.
Kind of disappointed in T-Mobile's lineup. We might see something at MWC but I wouldn't put my bets on it.

Unless they're wanting their own version that is locked down - like AT&T is rumored to be doing.

Where is the source that AT&T wants to "lock" down their device?
And that doesn't sound too logical to buy phones from a company and put it on their company. If T-Mobile was able to do that then they could just buy a bunch of iPhones and sell them. I'm sure the manufacturer and carrier needs to agree with the sale.
And honestly, Nexus devices are not your "everyday devices." The demand for them compared to iPhones or even Galaxy S2 devices are not as high.

The AT&T thing is a rumor based on a new Nexus that went through the FCC (it was a while back) that had AT&T bands only, didn't have one of the AWS bands for TMO or something.
Also iPhone's aren't the same thing, because they're hobbled on that network, whereas a Nexus works in its full capacity. The people who use an iPhone there are masochist who love EDGE speed

iPhones are definitely hobbled but MANY MANY people still buy them off contract and unlock themselves to use it on T-Mobile's EDGE network. As much as I hate EDGE, people still do this rather than use Android devices. AT&T would want their own model with GSM and LTE anyways.

There obviously has to be an agreement between T-Mobile and Samsung to properly set up supply chains and get everything working. T-Mobile can't just buy millions of these wholesale, put a T-Mobile logo on them and start selling them in-store. Its not that easy to launch a carrier device.

It's not silly if you want to be a **** and jail everyone into your own Network so you make more $$, also AT&T will probably want LTE (though I don't think the FCC submission had one) on top of the HSPA radio.
Also like I said, people who switch with an iPhone KNOW what they're doing, once you open the flood gates and announce you're offering something - ton of people who don't really understand the issue will buy it and get pissed off.
Besides I doubt Apple would allow Tmo to sell it for that very reason - they don't want to be blamed for the 2G speed.

Well obviously Apple wouldn't sell an EDGE only device directly through T-mo, but Apple does sell the iPhone 4 and 4S unlocked directly online. You can buy it and put a T-Mo SIM in it all you want.
People save a ton of money by going to T-Mo with their iPhone. They're willing to live with EDGE especially if they're on WiFi most of the time and don't care if they necessarily have 3G. EDGE still gets the job done unless you're doing lots of web browsing. Its not like you don't have data.

Hm. If AT&T wants their GSM/LTE version then they might be adopting the same technology that the LG Spectrum has where it can use GSM and LTE (as announced by Verizon)

@martonikaj: yeah pretty much do the SIM thing but iphone uses microSIM so thats the only thing you have to do which I believe you can just use a knife and cut it to be a microsim (or something like that)

There obviously has to be an agreement between T-Mobile and Samsung to properly set up supply chains and get everything working. T-Mobile can't just buy millions of these wholesale, put a T-Mobile logo on them and start selling them in-store. Its not that easy to launch a carrier device.

Yeah I'm sure that's the reason, but it just begs to question, why?
I mean is there really some legal mumbo jumbo that says you can't buy the Nexus and resell it as part of your own service?
It's one thing - when the OEM has to specifically build a phone for the carrier, but another when it will work perfect fine. That's why I raise the issue.
I would assume the main reason is that, Samsung would be inclined to give a bigger discount with a formal contract agreement - which then allows Samsung to handle the supply chain aspect to provide the goods on their own terms. Plus they probably sold their soul to VZ for the current period saying we won't let any other carrier use it officially.

No... They'll just use the technology they're already using on all other LTE phones on AT&T, like the Skyrocket, Vivid, and half a dozen other phones launched at CES. GSM/LTE chips already exist. They don't need anything new.
The Verizon phones with new chips have CDMA/LTE for Verizon US, then GSM for world roaming. That's a new feature, and does not apply to AT&T whatsoever.

There are SIM cutters all over the internet. Its easy. Cutting a Mini SIM to a Micro (or putting a Micro in a Mini adapter) is the least of your problems.

It is probably some "legal jumbo" and interests of the customer. If the device isn't officially supported by the manufacturer to sell to that carrier in bulk, then they can't fulfill the warranty as it's a "grey market."
I'm definitely not a lawyer but this would be a problem for the carrier if customers aren't able to get their warranty covered by Samsung and have to go through T-Mobile directly or something.

Verizon has an exclusive on carriers selling the Galaxy Nexus in the US.
T-Mo won't make nearly as much money if they were literally buying them and reselling. They need a contractual obligation with Samsung to produce phones and sell at a certain price.
Think about everything that goes into a phone launch. They need to educate sales and support staff, start a marketing campaign, setup their systems, start the supply chain management, etc. etc. etc.. They can't do all of this, and start selling phones then have Samsung run out or not fulfill orders because to Sammy, T-Mo is just another random buyer. T-Mo could be buying millions of phones over the life of its sale. Again, it REALLY isn't as easy as you think.
Some retailer or local shop could buy and resell, but T-Mobile USA can't do that.

.... anyone spending $650+ on an unlocked iPhone (or ETF-ing, jailbreaking + unlocking) and moving it to T-Mobile should be smart enough to know how to cut cardboard. Like I said, Mini vs Micro SIM isn't even a problem. They are literally the exact same except the size of the cardboard around it.

Not to bump a stupidly old thread, but any news lately that I may have missed?

Thinking about switching from VZW...Will it ever get another Nexus?

Hey everybody my Verizon contract is up this year and I was wondering what other people's experience is with other carriers. I love having a nexus but I doubt VZW ever gets another one. Also, I'm grandfathered into unlimited data so I'd never be able to upgrade without paying full price.
To sum it up, what are people's experience with GSM carriers that have unlimited data? Do you think Verizon ever gets another Nexus?

only GSM carrier with unlimited data is T-Mobile, they offer unlimited and "limited" plans.
do i think verizon will get another one? i dont know, just wait and find out. next nexus devices will be announced soon.
regardless i wouldnt want a vzw nexus device as it isnt a true nexus device in terms of ota. if you dont get otas then vzw nexus is alright. (vzw still has to approve of the update before it gets OTA'd to VZW Nexus devices)

Google is probably pissed off at Verizon by now.

If there isn't another Nexus on Verizon it'll be because that's the way Verizon wants it, not the other way around.

Unless you are a decision maker at Verizon or Google, it really makes no sense to speculate about future smartphone offerings. Do tech sites paint a negative picture for the future? Always, but that shouldn't matter if you are happy with everything in the present. There is no definitive details on the nexus line so wait and see is your best option.
Remember, when the galaxy nexus came out, it was announced that it would be exclusive to Verizon, and that turned out to be wrong in the end.

I left Verizon after being with them for about 10 years, for the Google Play GSM Nexus. I am using it on Straight Talk Sim (Att). I get updates, have no contract, have a lot of data, unlimited calls and text...and I am only paying $45 per month. Couldn't be happier. Verizon sux big time, I am so glad I don't have to deal with their BS anymore.

Pretty sure that this exclusivity was within the U.S. only as internationally phones were distributed.
I guess the contract ended and expanded to Sprint and ultimately their Play Store devices section.
I agree with you that exclusivity was stupid on both Google and Verizon's part. Never a fan on why two companies would even bother doing phone exclusivities.

I am pretty sure it will. Works on either Att or Tmobile networks. Straight Talk is one of the bigger no contract carriers. Here is a link to Straight Talk Sim

Yup works on both AT&T and T-Mobile. HSPA+ (4G) compatible.
Line it up with a 2000 mAh extended battery (~$35) from shimshop on eBay. Comes with a extended battery cover that makes the phone feel much much much better in the hand.

Version will most likely be then first CDMA carrier to receive the nexus. Especially with the Optimus G launching on Sprint. I doubt ATT or T-Mobile will offer it subsidized on contract. That's leave Verizon or Unlocked versions

I switched from Verizon to T-Mobile to get the Sensation and then finally the Galaxy Nexus. I'm happy and I have no regrets leaving Verizon.
Main points are: having an unlocked phone with no contract gives me peace of mind. I hear people talk about their "contracts" all the time.. not having to worry about this is great. Verizon has good service, but T-Mobile's is no slouch for me. My service has been great.. and better in some areas where Verizon didn't work. And it's cheaper. Finally, my phone is cutting edge tech.. even after being a year old. I have the latest software and every feature I could ask for. It's also nice being able to go to another country, pop in a SIM and go on your way (if needed).
When I heard Verizon got the Nexus first after I left, initially I was upset.. but then I found out Verizon was still Verizon and they screwed the whole Nexus experience up the only way they know how. I'll never go back to that mess.

I switched to ATT and back to VZW, the service here in my area is just way better on verizon. On top of the service being better, 4G here is widespread and very fast, not even available with ATT.

I too left Verizon for Straight Talk. LTE is fast and sweet, but hspa+ is good enough for me. If I have to download something large I do it at home on wifi. I had the t-mobile $30 prepaid plan and their hspa+ speeds are amazing, but their coverage is very spotty where I live. I love not having a contract and also am paying less than half of what I paid Verizon.
