Hi guys,
I've unlocked the carrier of my Galaxy Nexus, now i don't know if my phone will be again carrier locked if i unlock bootloader root and install custom roms... Or pass from yajkuxw to yajku ( to get official updates from google)??
Thanks in advanced!!!
Shouldn't be - simm lock / unlock is independent of the phone OS.
If it does re lock it just use the same code and you'll be fine.

I bought my Galaxy Nexus at a VZW Premium Retailer a few days ago. I noticed right away that in the settings it was listed as an "Engineering" model. I have the white unlocked icon on bootup, and in the fastboot menu I have
PRODUCT NAME - tuna
VARIANT -toro
HW VERSION - 9
BOOTLOADER VERSION - PRIMEKK15
BROADBAND VERSION - 115. EK02 CDMA - 1515.EK05
CARRIER INFO - NONE
SIGNING -engineering
LOCK STATE - UNLOCKED
Does this change anything in the way it will be supported? Will it get updates sooner? Later? Not at all?
Also, if I were to go about rooting the phone, do I just skip the part in the guides that talks about unlocking it, or is there another procedure that I have to follow?
I wanna say mine said locked when I bought mine. Not to sure. Let some more members ring in before tinkering with it.

This is a good thing for you...factory unlocked phone....
Factory unlocked is no different to one you've unlocked yourself

That was my first thought... that he got a used phone...
but then I saw "SIGNING -engineering"
The first customer in the world to have a Galaxy Nexus was famously sold a developer version with missing Google Apps.
It happens.

You'd probably find more help on an irc channel than here. At least a faster response.

can you guys in the US buy factory unlocked phones or are all tied to some provider or another?
We have to buy import GSM versions if we want carrier unlocked.
I have one too. Bought it on release day, but was on hold at the Verizon store days before release
It came in a white box with new graphics on it. Just a plain white box.

They all come in plain white boxes.
Hardware rev 9 is the same as the release VZW Gnex, so it should make no difference that it's an engineering model. It should run either release or dev key builds without issue. Some of the earlier hardware revisions can't run stock builds.
It is possible that you could get dev builds pushed to your device from Google, but that depends on whether the IMEI is registered to Google as a test device and where it is in the queue to receive updates.
You could try *#*#CHECKIN#*#* from the dialer to check in with Google servers.
Nice. Get us that engineer boot loader stat!!!!! Custom rooms and recovery without unlocking the bootloader

I don't see why people are that excited about the bootloader...
On a phone that doesnt allow you to unlock the bootloader, a bootloader that will allow unsigned ROMs is amazing.
Considering it's easier / just as easy to unlock the bootloader as it would be to install another bootloader, I'm thinking this isn't that big of a deal to dump.

Although I have limited experience with Samsung (as the GN is my first Samsung device), I can tell you, for certain, that on HTC devices, having an engineering bootloader gives you access to a multitude of additional commands, which are accessed by adding "oem" after "fastboot". For a list of the commands (on HTC devices with an engineering bootloader flashed), you type fastboot oem ? and you will see the list. Here is the list on the Nexus One.
The issue that we had with the Nexus One was trying to get the dumped engineering bootloader to flash on a device with a shipping bootloader. The shipping bootloader would not allow an engineering bootloader to overwrite it, but xda member dla5244 created an exploit to allow flashing, and we managed to do it. See here. If the same issue arises with Samsung devices, maybe it could be packaged to be flashed with odin. Who knows. But it would be nice to have a dump so that people can mess around with it.
Hello all,
I just got my new Galaxy Nexus and i want to root my phone.
I saw the CF-Root v5.1 and wanted to try it.
But now would like to know 2 things.
1. How can i see if my phone is OEM Unlocked
and
2. Do i need the GSM or the LTE version.
i guess it has to do with my provider so
my provider:KPN
country: the Netherlands
I just configured my whole phone and don't really like to reinstall it again
Thanks in advance,

1. If the bootloader is unlocked there will be a picture of an open lock under the Google logo when you boot up. But, if you didn't unlock it in fastboot, it will be locked. Rooting doesn't unlock it.
2. GSM
Be aware that unlocking your boot loader will completely wipe your phones memory. Your current setup will be lost

Tanks everyone.
I sorted it all out and now got it up and running
First i had a little problem with the drivers, but i found and installed the bare naked drivers beta 0.5 (somewhere on xda) and it worked!
THANKYOUU!!!!
I originally had an xperia c1905 but cross flashed c2005 FW onto my device. What i find really annoying is that when i open the configuration in the service menu i find out that i cannot unlock the bootloader, ie, bootloader unlock allowed no. I haver read online and i have researched it, but other posts were made in 2013, i thought id ask ahain in 2014. Is there any possible way whatsoever of unlocking my phone's bootloader? will i ever be able to do it? Are there any modern ways that i might have missed?
Guys please dont tell me to send my phone to sony and they will unlock it for me. I have already tried it, but fot no response from sony. I have even contacted o2( my sim carrier) and asked about information on how to unlock, they told me that they cannot comment on that subject.:banghead::banghead::banghead::banghead::banghead::banghead::banghead:
If u have any information, i need your help, thank you!

As far as I know, no way of unlocking your bootloader if it says no. You still can try the regular bootloader unlocking procedure method, the only thing that may occur is it not working...
Or it can brick the device just leave it for now and wait for the time being there might be a way of doing it if it gets found if not the new firmware that's getting released shortly might lift the ban off the bootloader

I have the same problem. Please somebody need to find a way to unlock it. I bought my phone from Orange. I flashed the stock Sony's firmware and rooted it. I can't flash any CyanogenMod :crying: My old Galaxy Ace hasn't got any locks or something, installing custom roms was easy, but on this phone for me it's almost imposible...
I stumbled on a post on the Sony Talk forums the other day that stated if you carrier unlock your phone (so you can use any SIM card) and then flash an unbranded ROM the bootloader unlock status changes from No to Yes. This statement was made by a moderator on the forums and I have no idea how well the procedure will work.
Oh, the post was regarding the Z too so I'm not sure if it applies to the M.

I have a question and could find an answer, well maybe a few... First if you have an unlocked version of the m9 directly brought from HTC all updates come from them not any carriers? With that being said if you by a T-Mobile version and get an unlock code from them will updates still come from them or HTC?

HTC updates the phones sold through HTC. Any phone with carrier branding has HTC submitting their software to the carrier, and then it's released after carrier approval. It makes no difference if the phone is locked, unlocked, used on a different network, etc.
The only way you can go about getting updates directly from HTC in the past is through S-Off and a CID change, effectively changing your device ID, but A: I'm not sure if this is still the case and B: If you're asking the question that you asked, this is going to be a bit too complicated for me to explain at the moment. So the simple answer is No.

If you unlock the phone you will have to manually update the phone. If you stay stock you will get updates from T-Mobile, although they will lag the official (and XDA unofficial) releases by a substantial time.
Most folks unlock because they want to flash a custom ROM anyway, and will get updates on that ROM, rather than HTC or T-Mobile.

hmmmmm actually depends on which UNLOCK. If he meant unlocking it to make it carrier free but leaving everything stock then it'll update automatically. If he unlocks the bootloader but still remains stock without changing anything then it'll be auto still. I believe the only time you need to manually update is when you alter the recovery partition of the phone (installing custom recovery CWM/TWRP/etc) which means you'll probably run a custom rom, which also prevents automatic updates.

I'm assuming he meant unlock the bootloader, not the carrier. But I personally would not go to the trouble of unlocking the bootloader unless I was going to go custom ROM.

yeah I got that, but he said unlock code and from T-mobile so I deduced it to carrier unlocking lol.
Well I actually already unlocked the boot loader and using custom ROMs so not that be of a deal more so for my understanding. So if everything was stock and just got an unlock code from T-Mobile to unlock the device and say used the phone on AT&T or Verizon where would the updates come from ? The carrier you are on at the time or HTC?
By the way that's for the help and responses guys!

You are not going to get updates for a T-Mobile phone while on an AT&T network, even if you stayed stock. I don't think the download would work, and even if it did the ROM would not work with your variant. I think they will detect that your phone is not AT&T and not even offer the update.
It sounds like you have installed a custom ROM. In that case you won't get OTA at all, from anywhere; you simply update the ROM when the developer releases a new version.
