So this was strange.
Riding the bus in Los Angeles listening to music and surfing the web on my phone when LTE pops up. Now as you can see I have PRL 1 which forces roaming on Verizon towers. I checked my speeds to see if this was indeed true and I was hitting 16mbps+.
This lasted about a minute until I moved out of the area and signal went back to 3G.
Anyone can explain?

Sure, you rode by a Sprint tower that was broadcasting LTE. You can't connect to Verizon LTE as you don't have the proper hardware (VZW LTE: 700 mhz, Sprint LTE: 1900 mhz)

They're testing lte in los Angeles that prl is just roaming on Verizon 3g

That doesn't explain why I don't get LTE signal on the Verizon PRL on spots I know to have Sprint LTE though. For example at home I get a steady LTE signal -although at joke speeds. sometimes I'll be hitting 4mbps other times I'll get lucky if i even hit 1mbps- but I'll still use PRL 1 and not get Sprint LTE.
So was this a glitch that made me jump on Sprint tower although I was on forced roaming?
I think of going back and testing if this happens again. For anyone in LA, this was in Figueroa and Colorado Pasadena, CA

Nice to sew there is some signs of lte in pasadena. I was in west covina over the weekend and there was no lte. There is some in el Monte apparently.
But Sprint LTE is different from PRL as PRL is just for 3g and the gs3 had two antennas .

This has been explained numerous times... when you are roaming (on Verizon) but you have an LTE connection, it is two different signals. You are getting EVDO/1xRTT coverage from Verizon and LTE coverage from Sprint... no one on Sprint is roaming Verizon's LTE. Two different frequency spectrums of throughput.

Actually, I think the OP meant it's impossible to grab Sprint's LTE 1900 on a Verizon only PRL. Due to common belief, it's said you must be on a Sprint PRL that has LTE enabled to connect to it. The OP's situation is a rare one.
I wonder if Digiblur can enlighten us here, since I've always believed you needed a Sprint-Only LTE capable PRL to connect to Sprint's LTE network.

Exactly this.
I wasn't aware I could jump to Sprint LTE on a Verizon only PRL considering in areas I do get Sprint LTE coverage, I won't get 4G unless I update my PRL to a Sprint one.

Can't you just check your assigned LTE IP address to see if it was issued by Verizon or not?
I bet if you look at the LTE engineering screens it shows a Sprint PCS G block connection. From what I have seen in the past, you do need a PRL with the MCC/MNC records for that Geo. I have seen the Nexus not need this, probably because it doesn't have a qualcomm chipset.

Will someone please link me to the file for PRL version 1? (assuming this is still the best option) I am in a rural area where Verizon has 4Glte but sprint data sucks. I've searched but can't find it. Also, if I switch to s stock rooted rom, flash it, and then recover my current rom (Eclipse), will the PRL stick or revert back to what it was?
Thanks,

I don't believe that is possible. Verizon and sprint use different frequencies for lte. They only share 3g and 2g frequency.

It's automatically set to pick up any available signal. But it's not a bad idea if your in a new area to go to settings, updates and update prl. Other than that go into settings, more settings and mobile network and make sure it's on what you want it and also go to roaming options and select automatic.

It will only roam on cdma in the US it can roam gsm and umts internationally. Lte is limited to sprint only and can't roam yet due to the frequency differences. US gsm/umts roaming is blocked tho so in the US you'll only be able to roam on other cdma carriers.

For international roaming? It's like 5cents a text and like 50cents a minute with some carrier's that sprint has an agreement with. Those they don't can charge whatever they want up to a certain point, so $5 a minute could be close. But that's still cheaper than using a landline/payphone cuz it's like $7.50 a minute for those with a calling card and almosy $10 without in most European countries. Not as bad in some asian countries tho.

I've been seeing a lot of LTE buzz going around in the tmo GN2 forums and I want to get some clarification.
My understanding is that there are two versions of the T-Mobile Galaxy Note II: SGH-T889 and the SGH-T889V, with the latter being LTE-enabled. I have the SGH-T889. The buzz leads me to believe that the regular SGH-T889 does have dormant LTE capabilities which can be activated by flashing the newest radio. Is this true? Or is it only the SGH-T889V that has LTE?
I purchased this phone fully expecting zero LTE capability. All I really wanted was ~15Mbps, and HSPA+ typically delivers between 13-18Mbps depending on recenption in my area, so I'm pretty satisfied. However, I believe T-Mobile does have LTE in my area, so if my phone does have LTE capabilities that can be activated, that would be a nice bonus.

So, I'm in San Jose, which is suppose to be one of T-Mobile's LTE markets, and I have the latest modem (UVBMB4) running Sons of Android build 4. My network mode is set to "LTE/GSM/WCDMA", but I don't see any indication that I'm connected to LTE. My status icon is still H/H+, but one of the known issues is that the icon can be "wonky". Is there anyway to confirm wether or not I am connected to LTE?

I find that hard to believe. Again, San Jose is suppose to have LTE, and it has been reported to reach Fremont, which is 20 minutes from where I live in (North) San Jose.
One thing I've noticed, if I have the LTE option enabled, I'll lose all data connection after the phone sleeps a while. In order to restore data, I have disable LTE, and reset the radio (enable then disable Airplane mode).
I'm fairly convinced it's a software bug or configuration issue, but I suppose I could be in an LTE dead-zone. I also doubt that, since I live in a fairly open area, and cell phone reception has never been an issue for me, not CDMA, GSM, HSPA, or WiMAX, which was notorious for spotty reception. Not to mention, according to OpenSignal, it works down the street from where I live.

Just because they say you have LTE in your area doesn't mean it's fully up and operational just yet. T-mobile is still working on getting ALL the towers upgraded for LTE. Give it time and you'll probably see LTE start popping up more and more.
And before you make comments about how they should have been prepared blah blah blah; go check the LTE thread because it's been done MANY times.
Has anyone here bought an unlocked AT&T S3 to use on the MetroPCS/Tmobile network? If so has there been any issues? shorter battery life, bad connectivity?

You will have issues with 3G HSPA+ on 1700mhz, but 2G EDGE & 4G LTE will work just fine. If you live in a large metro area with a lot of LTE coverage it will be fine. I just went through this with my wife's phone, she had to have the Red one (AT&T specific).

Good, that is exactly what we are seeing as well. Mostly LTE coverage with EDGE to fallback on. Most all Metro areas and major highways/interstates will have good coverage. Funny enough we live in the middle of nowhere, but there is a major highway nearby so we get LTE coverage.
On a side note, US carriers marketed HSPA as 3G and HSPA+ as 4g, but both are technically 3G. True 4G is LTE. I am not sure if Metro ever had HSPA service, I think that they were just CDMA then later added LTE and have been migrated to TMo's GSM/HSPA network which now uses Metro's LTE as well. Only the newer GSM Based phones would connect to HSPA.

Unlocked att siii will not access metro/t-mobile data
Can someone verify for me what the correct apn settings are? Should there be a network operator? And since I think the apn is finally right, do you have any more suggestions? Also, do you know if this is CDMA or GSM?
can I ask why people want to buy an ATT phone to use on a Tmobile carrier? On the S4 and Note versions, people buy Tmobile phones and use them on ATT, myself included. This is because of the bootloader, and the Tmobile phones cover ATT LTE channels while not the opposite.
Wasn't planned
I didn't intentionally set out to buy an AT&T phone, I was just looking to upgrade and this was the best deal. Or at least it looked to be on the surface. Do I just need to forget it and try to sell it?
If you are in an area recently upgraded by T-Mobile, the I747 will work just fine. However, if you are in an are not upgraded with LTE, etc, it's waay more trouble than its worth. The above post about not getting HSPA+21/42 is worth considering too though.
T-Mobile and AT&T are both GSM networks btw.

I am actually on Metro P.S, but they are on the T-mobile network now in Atlanta, Ga where I live. We do run 4glte,but so far the fastest mine will connect to shows "E" on my phone, edge maybe? One of the many I've spoken with at metro said E is 3g. One of their repair techs said I needed a different SIM card because I had a CDMA phone but when I got to the store that had one he said it was a GSM phone. It's already about been more trouble than it is worth, but as much effort as I've put into it already, I'd like to resolve it.
Well, since the Force is out and the DT2 seems to completely lack dev support and rooting method, I am very seriously considering dumping VZW for TMo. Picked up a prepaid sim from 7-11 to test out tonight.
I live just over the river from NYC in NJ and commute to Bryant Park area daily for work. Will be periodically posting my impressions here. Plan on swapping SIMs for a few day to put TMo thru the ringer before pulling the trigger on an X-Force
So far working completely, both Voice & LTE. Not sure if I am getting VoLTE or true GSM Voice service, as I do not know of a way to test. I have been sitting comfortably on Band 4 for LTE when outside with 4 full bars of service. Inside my apartment, 4g is spotty with TMo (I live in a garden level place, half underground half above in a brownstone), however without band 12 present in the phone, I dont expect blazing or strong 4g signal indoors.
I do however get strong HSPA+ inside which has been pretty fast through basic web browsing and small app downloads.
What has blown me away is the speed of the TMo network, both HSPA and LTE. I took the following speedtests (same spot, swapping sims & letting connection settle). While it is harder to get 4G LTE inside with TMo and no band 12, when I do get it, the speed still BLOWS away VZW

Pic 2 - T-Mo Indoor (foyer) - HSPA +
Pic 3 - Verizon Outside - 4G LTE
Pic 4 - T-Mo Outside - 4G LTE
Pic 5 - T-Mo Inside front foyer - 4G LTE (verizon speed was same as previous outside pic)

It'll work on GSM carriers (T-Mobile, AT&T, US Cellular, etc.) but not Sprint since it's a CDMA network. Phones with CDMA radios are allowed onto a CDMA network via a code, and Sprint blocks codes from Verizon phones, and vice versa.

im in nyc and have turbo 2 on vzw and had an extra one as backup. a buddy in tampa florida using a galaxy s6 regular on tmo kept having issues with his fone. i sent him my backup which is exactly the same im using. he put his sim into the turbo without any problems and works fine. he gets no dropped calls for whatever reason. he thought he would miss his wifi calling but since the fone is better at reception all around he doesnt need the wifi calling and of course he has unlimited data using his Tmo sim and its on LTE . only thing he said he has missed is the turbo 2 doesnt have infrared for his samsuck tv and other controls he could have used via his galaxys infrared. hope this helps.

All Verizon LTE phones are network unlocked by order of the FCC ever since 2011, 2012. It was an "agreement" Verizon was forced to sign to get more LTE spectrum.

It's old news. As long as a Verizon phone has the necessary LTE bands, it will work on any other LTE carrier.
Droid Turbo 2 has LTE bands 2,3,4,7,13. T-Mobile uses LTE bands 2,4,12. So, he's getting LTE bands 2,4.

I'm assuming this means I could use my droid turbo 2 outside of the US and just swap in a local sim (and use LTE if those countries use 2,3,7 or 13)?

Yes. For countries without those bands you would rely upon HSPA or even GSM.
I'm using mine on Telstra in Australia with no issues. (Droid Turbo 2)

What LTE bands does your carrier use? Info i found says 1, 3, 7, 8, 28. Droid Turbo 2 had two of those (3, 7), plus HSPA of course.
