Flashing using adb? - Desire Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Soo, I have a htc desire, and, for some reasons, I have problems with the clockworkmod recovery I installed on it. So, does anyone have a tutorial or smth of how to flash a recovery like Amon Ra using only adb?

Please post information from your hboot. If it's new enough, I recommend to use revolutionary to go S-OFF which would make flashing recovery a lot easier. But I do not know any way to flash recovery via ADB.

You can use unrevoked. thats what i did. replace the cmw recovery with amon ra.

Before rooting or after you were rooted already?

doesn't matter. i did it after rooting.

It does matter! Because for some people unrevoked does not work if they are already rooted.

oh. well, it worked for me. so..i guess...just try it?

Or you can visit my thread, S-OFF (takes about a minute), then flash recovery via fastboot (takes about 10 seconds)

4ext help?

i just installed 4ext recovery control and flashed 4ext. but when i go to recovery the same clockworkmod recovery comes up not 4ext. what am i doing wrong and can somone explain how to flash 4ext in detail please. thank you. im using htc desire s-on by the way. sorry for noobism. please help

You need s-off to use 4ext. So technically it didn't flash the recovery in the first place.
I think your problem is S-ON. I had exactly the same issue myself when first trying to shift to CWM Touch. You need to be S-Off for these things to stick.
I used this method. http://revolutionary.io/
Check the various Desire S-OFF threads for more detail.
A S-On device will not be able to flash a recovery (unless you use unrevoked as a roundabout way to flash). They can only 'fake flash' recovery. Those would be lost after a reboot. Go S-Off to flash recovery.

[Q] Does anyone have a link for Clockwork Recovery 3.0.2.4?

I am looking for Clockwork Recovery 3.0.2.4 for my G2 so I can install the DZ HBOOT. Does anyone have the download link for it?
I appreciate it
It's in RM, just scroll down to the bottom for the option to install older recoveries.

Here you go: http://ratherphallic.co.cc/OTHER/recovery-clockwork-3.0.2.4-vision.img
You don't need this specific version of recovery to flash the DZ hboot, it gets flashed from bootloader, not recovery.

or as I found out you can flash via fastboot so long as you have an engienering hboot. this way you don't have to reflash your radio and recovery again. although I did have to reformat my recovery (4ext)

^ This. Also if you just need the desire Z hboot, you can install the new ENG S-OFF hboot without a specific recovery (the one from the Virtuous wiki though does come with clockworkmod, but I prefer 4EXT recovery).
Thanks guys, successfully changed boot loader and I'm running Sense 4.0

Custom Rom with S-on!?

I have a rooted evo 4g, if I wanted to load a custom rom with S-on, what would I have to do?
Just flash as normal. You don't need s-off to flsh rom

I read something like you have to start recovery through adb through fastboot if you are s-off
Flash a recovery through adb? That first if you don't have a recovery already.
yeah I already have a recovery, so I can just boot into recovery and flash?

Go back to rom manager go to its settings menu and check the erase recovery before flash option. Then reflash cwm thru rom manager.

If your s-off put this file http://dinc.does-it.net/Recoveries/TWRP_2.3.1.0/PB31IMG.zip on your sdcard in no folders, and boot to hboot. It should find the file and prompt you to press vol up to install. It is TWRP recovery. Flash that see if you can access it, if you can access it, either stick with TWRP or flash back to cwm http://dinc.does-it.net/Recoveries/CWM_5.0.2.0/PB31IMG.zip, and see if you can access it then.
ok
ok gonna give it a try
thanks for ALL your help
fixed!
Thank you soo much!
although i have a question,Why did cwm appear instead of twrp?
that's strange.....

You flashed the twrp one and cwm came up? Thats not what i was expecting, but if it fixed it i guess all is well.
EDIT: Lol nevermind, i forgot to add in the link for the twrp one, and just put the one for cwm. So the one you flashed was cwm 5.0.2.0. I edited my previous post amd added the twrp link.

[Q] I need simple explanation

Hi all,
couple time ago I bought DHD, after few days I have rooted and unlocked bootloader. After that I have tested few custom roms and now I have simple question. Do I have to make my device s-off, because it is still s-on. When I read few instalation instructions I can see that: s-off is required. Or 4ext is required. How can I replace CWM 5.x to 4ext?
Regards, MaPa.
You don't need S-Off. You probably don't need 4ext. It's only that if you're SOn, you need to flash the boot.img from fastboot each time you flash a ROM.
So, s-off and 4ext are needed only for flashing boot.img with out cable ?

No that's not quite right, with s-off you can flash rom direct, no need to flash boot.img at all its done while flashing rom...

Ok, but which method is the most secure to get s-off?
