i just installed 4ext recovery control and flashed 4ext. but when i go to recovery the same clockworkmod recovery comes up not 4ext. what am i doing wrong and can somone explain how to flash 4ext in detail please. thank you. im using htc desire s-on by the way. sorry for noobism. please help

You need s-off to use 4ext. So technically it didn't flash the recovery in the first place.
I think your problem is S-ON. I had exactly the same issue myself when first trying to shift to CWM Touch. You need to be S-Off for these things to stick.
I used this method. http://revolutionary.io/
Check the various Desire S-OFF threads for more detail.
A S-On device will not be able to flash a recovery (unless you use unrevoked as a roundabout way to flash). They can only 'fake flash' recovery. Those would be lost after a reboot. Go S-Off to flash recovery.

Hi anyone that can help! Bit of a noob here
Basically, managed to S-OFF my desire absolutely fine, but I don't have a clue how to flash a new Clockworkmod Recovery image or how to flash a new H-BOOT image and none of the tutorials seem very clear. I rooted using Unrevoked, partitioned my SD card using G-Parted and S-OFFed using Alpharev, so I have had no past experience with ADB or Fastboot.
Could someone please advise me on what I can do or show me any helpful links
Thank you!

Okay, now I just feel like an idiot. Thank you!
Okay here is the situation. I'm trying to root a HTC Desire using unrevoked on my laptop that I've used to successfully rooted another desire in the past. It get so far into the sequence then it says "error getting root, is your software too new"
The phone is a 'new' generic replacement from t-mobile but is showing as being s-off even though it hasn't been touched!?!?
Can any please give me advice on what to try next?

Try flashing a recovery via fastboot.
If it works you should be s-off. Was it s-off before you touched it?

I can see this thread may get a lot of views if your phone came from the factory s-off

I had this problem trying to change the recovery program from clockwork to RA 2.0on my rooted desire. I was using unrevoke to flash the RA 2.0 recovery image file. I had to roll back from 2.3.3 to 2.2 and do a factory reset. As you are on 2.2 all you can try is the reset option.
Being already rooted wasn't the problem and if you Google your error message will find known issues with unrevoked.
Hope this helps.

Yes it was s-off before I touched anything.
I've been reading this thread from the stickies though.

I had the same problem with my phone.
Start with a downgrade to original 2.1 and then run unrevoked and then alfarev to s-off,
I followed a very nice video guide i found on the development forum,
It was the only thing that worked for me.
Hope it works for you to.

The mention of S-OFF on that thread just means that it can be done. Not that every PVT4 model has S-OFF out the box. Seems like you might be lucky in that you have factory S-OFF. I take it it doesn't have the pink AlphaRev banner at the top above where it says S-OFF?

i got a t-mobile branded desire that was s-off from factory, i had problems using unrevoked on my pc, tried it on a friends and it worked fine
try a different pc and make sure you have the drivers installed and htc sync uninstalled
if you have an eng hboot you can try fastboot flashing the recovery then using the recovery to flash a rooted rom
failing that you can try the old fake flash method of having cwm as an update.zip
booting to recovery the flashing the update.zip which will take you to cwm
it doesnt actually install a new recovery as its fake flash
does the device look slightly different? like brushed aluminium?
i had one of these old s-off eng devices to play with last year.
I by desire but he is factory s off?
Iwish to root desire what i do
Pvt1
Hboot 0.93.0001
Can i use unvorked or can i use zroot
Thanks a lot
Hi thanks for making a thread. I suggested this as I can't guarantee continued help in PM.
I have seen a few factory s-off desires recently.
I am unsure how s-off it really is.
I would be interested to know if android flasher would allow you to fastboot flash custom recovery, such as clockwork mod.
If it does, you don't need root to flash custom rom.

Soo, I have a htc desire, and, for some reasons, I have problems with the clockworkmod recovery I installed on it. So, does anyone have a tutorial or smth of how to flash a recovery like Amon Ra using only adb?
Sent from my HTC Desire using xda premium
Please post information from your hboot. If it's new enough, I recommend to use revolutionary to go S-OFF which would make flashing recovery a lot easier. But I do not know any way to flash recovery via ADB.
You can use unrevoked. thats what i did. replace the cmw recovery with amon ra.

doesn't matter. i did it after rooting.
It does matter! Because for some people unrevoked does not work if they are already rooted.

oh. well, it worked for me. so..i guess...just try it?
Or you can visit my thread, S-OFF (takes about a minute), then flash recovery via fastboot (takes about 10 seconds)
I am looking for Clockwork Recovery 3.0.2.4 for my G2 so I can install the DZ HBOOT. Does anyone have the download link for it?
I appreciate it
It's in RM, just scroll down to the bottom for the option to install older recoveries.

Here you go: http://ratherphallic.co.cc/OTHER/recovery-clockwork-3.0.2.4-vision.img
You don't need this specific version of recovery to flash the DZ hboot, it gets flashed from bootloader, not recovery.

or as I found out you can flash via fastboot so long as you have an engienering hboot. this way you don't have to reflash your radio and recovery again. although I did have to reformat my recovery (4ext)

^ This. Also if you just need the desire Z hboot, you can install the new ENG S-OFF hboot without a specific recovery (the one from the Virtuous wiki though does come with clockworkmod, but I prefer 4EXT recovery).
Thanks guys, successfully changed boot loader and I'm running Sense 4.0
