I have a rooted evo 4g, if I wanted to load a custom rom with S-on, what would I have to do?
Just flash as normal. You don't need s-off to flsh rom
Sent from my PC36100 using xda app-developers app
I read something like you have to start recovery through adb through fastboot if you are s-off
Flash a recovery through adb? That first if you don't have a recovery already.
yeah I already have a recovery, so I can just boot into recovery and flash?

Soo, I have a htc desire, and, for some reasons, I have problems with the clockworkmod recovery I installed on it. So, does anyone have a tutorial or smth of how to flash a recovery like Amon Ra using only adb?
Sent from my HTC Desire using xda premium
Please post information from your hboot. If it's new enough, I recommend to use revolutionary to go S-OFF which would make flashing recovery a lot easier. But I do not know any way to flash recovery via ADB.
You can use unrevoked. thats what i did. replace the cmw recovery with amon ra.

doesn't matter. i did it after rooting.
It does matter! Because for some people unrevoked does not work if they are already rooted.

oh. well, it worked for me. so..i guess...just try it?
Or you can visit my thread, S-OFF (takes about a minute), then flash recovery via fastboot (takes about 10 seconds)
I can't seem to boot into clockworkmod recovery (because I want to make a new backup). BUT now I can only go into hboot and that's it
Oh,and here are my details:
Rom:Cyanogenmod 7.2
Kernel:stock
P.S I used rom manager to flash cwm 5.0.2.0

Go back to rom manager go to its settings menu and check the erase recovery before flash option. Then reflash cwm thru rom manager.

If your s-off put this file http://dinc.does-it.net/Recoveries/TWRP_2.3.1.0/PB31IMG.zip on your sdcard in no folders, and boot to hboot. It should find the file and prompt you to press vol up to install. It is TWRP recovery. Flash that see if you can access it, if you can access it, either stick with TWRP or flash back to cwm http://dinc.does-it.net/Recoveries/CWM_5.0.2.0/PB31IMG.zip, and see if you can access it then.
ok
ok gonna give it a try
thanks for ALL your help
fixed!
Thank you soo much!
although i have a question,Why did cwm appear instead of twrp?
that's strange.....

You flashed the twrp one and cwm came up? Thats not what i was expecting, but if it fixed it i guess all is well.
EDIT: Lol nevermind, i forgot to add in the link for the twrp one, and just put the one for cwm. So the one you flashed was cwm 5.0.2.0. I edited my previous post amd added the twrp link.
hi i wanna know if i can get s-off w/ the classic rom? or do i need to revert back to stock rom?
i got this phone a few months ago, rooted, installed recovery and rom, skipped the s-off because i was lazy. now i wanna install aokp roms and it seems that i need s-off in order to do that. correct me if i'm wrong.
many thanks for your time.
No. You don't need s-off for AOKP. You're fine. Just make sure you backup and wipe properly.

The only problem with s-on is that you need to flash the boot.img from the rom separately in fastboot
Code:
fastboot flash boot boot.img

You don't even have to do that I thought? Its flashing radios that need S-OFF.

This is true for the EVO LTE when it's S-on (unless it's Hboot 1.12, then it doesn't matter), but on the OG EVO it's not an issue. Only issue with being S-on on the OG is not being able to flash radios, as stated above.

Some more information would be helpful. What Hboot do you have (this can be found by booting into the bootloader), what ROM are you running and what recovery do you have installed?

Can you boot into recovery mode? If not, have you tried installing a new recovery?

I'm having the same problem after switching services, so I'm trying to reload it with a Sprint-less ROM. Could you please elaborate on your solution?
My just won't start up Android screen
I was try to take my phone to as close to stock as possible but didn't have a stock recovery. I was trying to get s-off through sunshine but when i tried to go back to stock i downloaded an ing file from here and installed it using flashify and i am assuming it was the wrong one. Now all i get is the red triangle on start up. How do I flash a recovery using a mac or could some one direct me to a video?
forgot
also i was rooted and unlocked if that makes a difference. I was using twrp and viper one rom.
Get fastboot and adb. Download newest twrp img file. Boot to bootloader and click fastboot. Load terminal on Mac and navigate to directory with fastboot and img.
Fastboot flash recovery twrp.img
Pm me if you need more help.
