(Q) What's Going On - EVO 4G Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Ok so if you guys remember me with the weird SD mount issues, I took the phone to sprint & blamed it on gingerbread. They gave me brand new phone free. Anyways, not my internet is very spotty. At times I get good connections but like 75% of the day horrible. My 3g thing even drops completely sometimes. I updated to recent prl & profile & I'm still stock. Any insights people?

If your !00% stock, not rooted. Do a battery pull which is same as soft reset, call sprint and ask them to refresh your connection on the network, ask if any issues in your area. If that doesn't work, take phone to sprint store and have them look at it. Either the phone or the network.

Airave forcing 1x?

Alright, so I was recently sent the Sprint Airave...
I'm currently using http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=935275 <--rom and when I have the airave plugged in it forces 1x. and then sometimes(im guessing) pulls off normal cell towers to get my normal 0-1 bar of 3g..
If I flash a sense rom it switches between full bars of 3g and full bars of 1x...
While in the sense rom I updated my prl and network settings... flashed the latest radio, PRI, and NV... Then I flashed back to the gb rom from above... and it does the same as before..
any ideas?
Same thing happened to me. I ended up ditching it.
I think it's a problem with the airaves.

That sucks... its forcing 1x for my friends pixie. It goes from full bars of 1x and full bars of 3g, but 3g goes from godly slow to godly fast...
Yeah I would call them and see if there's an update for the airaves to address this issue.

mine works fine and doesn't do this.
Sprint sent out an update to all airaves devices two days ago. They told me it should be resolved today by 10. It took most of them offline. They recommend keeping them unplugged until 10.
They are on a roll.

BS, thanks for the update. For the last 2 days my airave has been offline. I did the sprint chat last night. They never mentioned any firmware updates being sent to the device, but did do some kind of provisioning refresh. Told me to leave it unplugged for an hr and try again. Let it unplugged over night and as off about 6 hrs ago, it's still not working. All lights solid, but *99 says im not connected.
Just spoke with airave support. Appears their firmware update went belly up and they're still recovering from the issues it caused. Service should be up sometime later tonight (the tech gave a 6-8 hr window).

Problem with data?

Today i went to hilton head from savannah. In savannah i have fine 4g service. once i passed over bored of ga and sc i lost all service. i did not go into 3g nor edge. I also have a vibrant that i carry which kept a 3g service for most of the time. It went into edge for a few minutes but it krept back into 3g. My SGS II never came back into service until i was 5 minutes away from my house. I reset the phone a couple times throughout the day which did not help. has anyone experienced a loss in data with another phone that is on same service have data. This was unexpected and frankly pissed me off. NO GPS, NO INTERNET. all i could do was text. I even had gps on my vibrant (miui latest le) which if you came from vibrant you know its not the greatest gps.
My real question is....Do you think its a defect and should i try to get another one or something im going to have to deal with on the SGS II . I am always going back and forth between the two places.
Next time you take the drive try going to Settings -> Wireless & Network -> Mobile Networks and changing your network mode to GSM only.
You may be onto something because I experience the same thing when at the office. My 4G drops and it won't switch to edge, I just have no service.
If the auto mode isn't working for anyone that really is lame.
I have called CS on this and they didn't seem concerned and just told me to do what I wrote in the first paragraph.

I'll try to remember to report back how my day at the office goes with GSM only tomorrow.

well i would rather know if its a defect or just unable to switch services automatically before my grace period is up. So please do report back...
It definitely seems like there is an issue with switching between 4g & E. I can't fully confirm but I've been switching them manually today and it's working. If I leave it on auto it never switches to edge even when 4g is at zero bars. Weird. I don't know if this is normal or not cause this is my first real 4g device.

How do you switch manually? I have problems inside of buildings, not that I expect it to have a 4g inside, but edge would still be helpful for work email notifications.

On the gs2 GSM is 3g/E(?) And WCDMA is 4g.

Signal drops and Airave 2.5 connectivity

Do you guys have any issues with signal on your GN2? My GN2 will just drop all signal and show a circle with a slash in it as if there is no signal at all. At first I thought it was my airave but it happens when I am not within range of my airrave as well.
I also have issues getting the phone connect to my Airave 2.5. Anyone have any ides about this?
I just noticed that I will have full signal and while trying to send a text, the text will look like it's sending but the signal will drop. I have to wait for the signal to come back and re-send the text. 5 minutes later and the same thing happens.
I had a problem like this also, I reset my Airave and then updated profile and it worked. Maybe give that a try.

Yeah I've tried this. I reset my Airave and the GN2 will connect but at times it just disconnects.
I still have the problem where I'll turn on my phone and there will be no signal and it will connect to the sprint network after a minute. This happens with or without the airave.
I just flashed the phone back to stock and still having the same problems.
Did you update your profile after resetting the airave? Just a thought?

I had this problem in my house and what I did was turn roaming from automatic to sprint only and it helped. I also unchecked roaming guard for data and voice

Nope. I just set it to home only for the roaming mode instead of automatic and I unchecked the domestic roaming guards. I still get signal drops.
I think (not 100% sure) that the signal drops when the phone is idle and not when its downloading something or even when I'm on a call. Not sure if that helps.
After you set it to sprint only did you unplug the airave for a minute or so, then plug back in? Just a suggestion. I was constantly roaming when I would first come home and it would not connect to the airave. I stopped having the problem after I switched to sprint only. I hope you figure it out.

Same deal here. We ended up calling sprint and they sent out a 2.5 unit which has been more reliable, if not perfect. If we run into this with the new unit a quick switch to airplane mode and back again usually fixes it and if not then a phone reboot does. While your way this not the most reliable I think it's definitely have something to do with the note. Be sure to call Sprint so they are more likely to address it.

No I did not but that's only because I was not near the airave when I changed the sprint only setting. My connection drops outside the range of the airave too.
I took my phone to a corporate Sprint store and the tech told me that due to the towers in my area being down (due to the hurricane) that's why my signal drops. But I don't buy that...my signal was fine on Friday with my Galaxy S3. My signal drops at work a lot and my co-worker with his Sprint Galaxy S3 does not have the same signal problems.

I have an Airave 2.5. Sorry, I should add that to the OP.
Here's an update. I called sprint and told t change support about the problem. They ran through the usual steps like update profile, prl, and a factory reset. They made sure the provisioning was okay on their end and it was. Since I have TEP, they decided to ship me a new or refurbished Note 2. Let's see how that one goes.

How did it go?
I think I am on the same boat. I have a brand new airave 2.5+. My GN2 only connected to it twice, after lengthy updating PRL, profile, etc. I can't make it connect normally. Wife's iphone 4s connect OK. I was told because a tower (not very strong signal) is preferred, my phone doesn't connect to airave. I think it is a bug but don't find a solution. I search this forum and found people have similar issue for GN3. I tried PRL 51097 but no luck. BTW, I am on PRL 2011 now.
Can someone post PRL 2011? I made some progress on PRL 55016 but my phone has 2011. I don't know how to read it out, nor do I have the MSL.

Does anyone understand why on earth my phone reconnect to cell tower right after I hang up a call? The phone was connected to airave before and during the call (according to the signal strength, unless I was fooled).
It wasn't prl. It was my Note 2. At the time Sprint sent me a new Note 2 and it worked fine.

Can you hear me now???

Anyone else have this problem? When I go to pick up the phone the person on the other end can not hear me but I can hear them? It does not happen all the time though. It happens when I was stock and continues to happen now that I'm rooted and on another ROM. It started recently when I moved to an area that I actually had LTE coverage. But like most of you I don't use my phone as a phone and rarely receive phone calls. So not a major issue but just an annoyance. Anyone have any thoughts on this? Anyone having the same issue?

Call sprint sometimes their towers mess up. They cant fix it if they dont know about it i used to have 40 Kbps at work and i called to complain; turns out only 1 tower reached my workplace. So they flagged it as a capacity issue and changed the prl so that that tower gives people all it's got instead of expecting 4 other towers to share the load now i get 1.5Mbps at work (all 3g)

Had already tried contacting Sprint. They said there are no issues with any towers around this area. They had me do the obvious, reset my phone, pop out the battery, update the PRL, update the profile, ect. Still happened last night when I got a call from a coworker. He couldn't hear me but I could hear him. I called him right back and no issues then.
Any other thoughts?

Anyone running pure 4.3 stock

Data and call quality on these custom roms have been fine up until a few months ago. Either It's a fluke and just so happen that I been having issues around the time 4.3 dropped or the rom has issuses. I tried several 4.3 roms and still issuses with data speeds and drop calls. I called sprint and get the towers been updated and there's no outages in your area bull crap or lies of sending a box to boost signal free of charge ****. I never ask on this forum alot I rather figure it out myself but im completely lost. The only thing I haven't did yet was go back to 4.1 stock. My backup to that is gone Thanks to a dead 64 gig sd card and I don't wanna waste my time if the results are gonna be the same. Sprint was great for a year but things are bad took 3 hours to download 3 mb app smdh. I don't wanna leave sprint but I might not have a choice. It's hard to say it's my phone because my wife evo 4g lte dont even see 4g unless she jump on my internet tether or make a call in the bedroom to avoid a drop call. I literally get great coverage everywhere in town but at home. At my mom house I get download speeds of 15mbps all day long and at home download speeds of 0.63mbps and my phone say 4g lte on both really sprint. If you have any suggestions please steer me in the right direction before I blow 450 dollars leaving to another carrier. I would just be happy with no drop calls skip the internet at this point.
If your running stock with that knox mess let me know if things are different with calls or data hell I'll even give cm a try if it works.

Well I think your answer lies in your post. Everything works fine as long as your not at your house you stated. So it is a signal issue on sprints part not software or your phone.
FYI T-Mobile is offering to pay your etf's if you are looking to go that route.

Yeah I was checking that out and about to make that switch today just left the tmobile store just waiting on wife to pick a phone . Sprint been ok but I need better coverage in the midwest these storms and drop calls is not safe . Thanks for the suggestion Im gonna miss this phone. Off to the lg g2.
