(Q) What's Going On

Ok so if you guys remember me with the weird SD mount issues, I took the phone to sprint & blamed it on gingerbread. They gave me brand new phone free. Anyways, not my internet is very spotty. At times I get good connections but like 75% of the day horrible. My 3g thing even drops completely sometimes. I updated to recent prl & profile & I'm still stock. Any insights people?

If your !00% stock, not rooted. Do a battery pull which is same as soft reset, call sprint and ask them to refresh your connection on the network, ask if any issues in your area. If that doesn't work, take phone to sprint store and have them look at it. Either the phone or the network.

Sprint GNEX with no 3G data

Since I got my phone a few hours ago I have not been able to get and keep a 3g signal. Tech support says its a network issue. Will wait to see if things change. Anyone else having this issue?

Yes I was having the same problem with my galaxy nexus I received on Friday...it would not connect to the data network and would show an error code 600 when I tried to update the profile or prl. Tech support deemed it defective so I sent it back and am waiting for another device.

I have been roaming a lot with my nexus s 4g here in the tri state area

I had exact same issue with my pre-ordered nexus. Got it on Friday and it never had a 3G connection... well there was a couple of times it came on then went away when I tried using the web.
I talked with 3 different tech support agents for over 2 hours combined and they couldn't get it going. Even went to a sprint repair store on Saturday and they couldn't do anything. Finally, I called sales and they sent out a replacement. Got that in today and it works fine.

for what it's worth, my texts wouldn't go out here today via 3g... i'm in NYC and still using my epic

My been working fine so far, phone works great make sure you got CDMA radio only on , I was messing with that and for some reason 3G didn't work till I changed it back

I got my 3g data to work for 15 mins. Now its gone again. Damn Sprint!

I am having horrible data speeds thinking about taking it back. I love the phone other than the data speeds.
And that tower you see, it is a Sprint tower.

I received my gnex earlier today and have experienced the same error.
I'll see 3g appear for a minute... then its gone.
There for a bit.. then GONE
a hour with a tech on the phone. he put in a network ticket saying it wasn't related to my device
but something going on with the network.
i'm considering ESN swapping back to my epic 4g.

I'm so glad I don't have this problem on mine. I just got it today and it's working great so far. My boss bought a Verizon GNex a couple of weeks ago and had this very same issue. He took it back and got the RAZR Maxx. I don't blame him since I watched his Nexus' data go in and out every minute or so. It's a great phone if it works properly. Wish you all luck with getting the problem resolved.

Signal drops and Airave 2.5 connectivity

Do you guys have any issues with signal on your GN2? My GN2 will just drop all signal and show a circle with a slash in it as if there is no signal at all. At first I thought it was my airave but it happens when I am not within range of my airrave as well.
I also have issues getting the phone connect to my Airave 2.5. Anyone have any ides about this?
I just noticed that I will have full signal and while trying to send a text, the text will look like it's sending but the signal will drop. I have to wait for the signal to come back and re-send the text. 5 minutes later and the same thing happens.

I had a problem like this also, I reset my Airave and then updated profile and it worked. Maybe give that a try.

Yeah I've tried this. I reset my Airave and the GN2 will connect but at times it just disconnects.
I still have the problem where I'll turn on my phone and there will be no signal and it will connect to the sprint network after a minute. This happens with or without the airave.

I just flashed the phone back to stock and still having the same problems.

Did you update your profile after resetting the airave? Just a thought?

I had this problem in my house and what I did was turn roaming from automatic to sprint only and it helped. I also unchecked roaming guard for data and voice

Nope. I just set it to home only for the roaming mode instead of automatic and I unchecked the domestic roaming guards. I still get signal drops.
I think (not 100% sure) that the signal drops when the phone is idle and not when its downloading something or even when I'm on a call. Not sure if that helps.

After you set it to sprint only did you unplug the airave for a minute or so, then plug back in? Just a suggestion. I was constantly roaming when I would first come home and it would not connect to the airave. I stopped having the problem after I switched to sprint only. I hope you figure it out.

Same deal here. We ended up calling sprint and they sent out a 2.5 unit which has been more reliable, if not perfect. If we run into this with the new unit a quick switch to airplane mode and back again usually fixes it and if not then a phone reboot does. While your way this not the most reliable I think it's definitely have something to do with the note. Be sure to call Sprint so they are more likely to address it.

No I did not but that's only because I was not near the airave when I changed the sprint only setting. My connection drops outside the range of the airave too.
I took my phone to a corporate Sprint store and the tech told me that due to the towers in my area being down (due to the hurricane) that's why my signal drops. But I don't buy that...my signal was fine on Friday with my Galaxy S3. My signal drops at work a lot and my co-worker with his Sprint Galaxy S3 does not have the same signal problems.

I have an Airave 2.5. Sorry, I should add that to the OP.

Here's an update. I called sprint and told t change support about the problem. They ran through the usual steps like update profile, prl, and a factory reset. They made sure the provisioning was okay on their end and it was. Since I have TEP, they decided to ship me a new or refurbished Note 2. Let's see how that one goes.

How did it go?
I think I am on the same boat. I have a brand new airave 2.5+. My GN2 only connected to it twice, after lengthy updating PRL, profile, etc. I can't make it connect normally. Wife's iphone 4s connect OK. I was told because a tower (not very strong signal) is preferred, my phone doesn't connect to airave. I think it is a bug but don't find a solution. I search this forum and found people have similar issue for GN3. I tried PRL 51097 but no luck. BTW, I am on PRL 2011 now.

Can someone post PRL 2011? I made some progress on PRL 55016 but my phone has 2011. I don't know how to read it out, nor do I have the MSL.

Does anyone understand why on earth my phone reconnect to cell tower right after I hang up a call? The phone was connected to airave before and during the call (according to the signal strength, unless I was fooled).

It wasn't prl. It was my Note 2. At the time Sprint sent me a new Note 2 and it worked fine.

[Q] Horrible signal. My problem or Sprints?

So today I have had issues with connecting to Sprint's network. In a city near mine, they are upgrading to 4G. My phone has been going from full signal to zero signal within seconds. It is killing my battery life. I am running CM10.1 with the current nightly. I restored a previous version of CM to see if it was an issue with the ROM and I was getting the same results. Do I need to flash the radios or leave it be? Could it be because of Network Vision? Is there a way to back up my current radios in case something goes haywire?

Its most likely a carrier issue....make sure you have the most current radios installed which are FD02 if i remember correctly....other than that its a very rare occurance that software would affect your signal...probably due to the work that they are doing in the area....turn off LTE and see if the 3G signal does the same thing...good luck let us know what happens

I've turned off 4g, reconnected with airplane mode, restarted my phone, fixed permissions. 3G is the same. I hardly have any service. The thing is, the past couple weeks the service here has been awesome. Then yesterday, this.

Like i said its most likely the work that they are doing .... Give it a couple days because the same thing happened to me when Verizon was putting up their towers near me when i had my thunderbolt....give sprint a call see whats going on
...check their website see what it says for your area....for what its worth I'm 99% sure its their doing

Well, I have confirmed it to be on Sprint's end. All it took was a quick drive around town to pick up a different tower. My buddy has a signal booster in his apartment and I was picking up full bars there. Here's hoping LTE is close!

NYC and Data Coverage

So I live in the city. Right now I'm using MOAR v4.01 and I cannot achieve a connection other than 1x no matter where I am in the city. I had this problem on other ROMS so I don't think it's MOAR.
I was using the Anthrax Aosp rom a few months ago and noticed I achieved a 4g connection on the upper east side but ever since then I cannot get higher than 1x.
Is there anyone else in NY getting a 3g or 4g connection? Does anyone know what I can do to try to fix this? I am using the MD4 modem (had the problem on MB1 too) and update my profile and prl often. I am really getting frustrated paying for services I can't even use. I am hoping that I won't have to unroot and reset my flash counter to bring the phone to a sprint store.

I'm nowhere near NYC (in fact, Southern California is pretty much as far away as you can get from NYC without going to Alaska or Hawaii), but it sounds like Sprint might be updating their network. I know in many areas (myself included), Data services were extremely crippled when they were installing 4G. I would regularly get 1x in areas where I would get decent 3G. Then a few weeks later, the 3G was back. Then a month or so later 4G was up and running (it's pretty nice here at my work desk). Others have reported similar issues when the network is being upgraded.
So maybe it'd be worth a call to Sprint to see what's up with them. A part of me doubts that most of NYC would be upgraded at once, but maybe in your area there's work going on. It's worth a (relatively) quick call.

Yes, I get 3g and 4g depending where I am. I'm stock rooted md4.
Had that issue once but update profile and prl over wifi fixed it for me.

I emailed them and they told me there is network outages in my area, but then the guy above me just said he's getting a 3g and 4g connection. Sprint really frustrates me. When I got my phone, it would say I was connected to 3g but after doing speed tests I would only get about 115kbps down. Now I'm using MOAR and it shows 1x and if I do a speed test on 1x its about the same. However, I used to get a 4g connection on 44th street and 6th ave but now I don't. I think I'm gonna go to the store today and ask them. If they tell me to bring my phone in I'll have to unroot it and reset the flash counter :/

Yes, certain spots in lower Manhattan I get signal but can't use the service. It just don't work. Text won't send or calls won't go thru.

So I found out what was causing the issue. I went into the ##3282# menu and navigated to Others > HDR/1X Selection and turned it to Hybrid mode and now I can access 3G and I'm gonna test 4G after work.
