Just thinking it might be a good idea. The NexusS forum suffers from some confusion from time to time

I like this idea.
it'll be the same as Nexus S
it's the same phone, so there is not gonna be a separate forum
there is no confusion, it's just different radio bands
a well made ROM will not matter which phone is flashed to, it will simply work just like on the Nexus S
this also defines good DEVeloper vs your regular phone Cooks & Kangs

I don't get how a single ROM will work on both versions?
They are identified as two different devices: maguro and toro, and the build code for the two will be different, mainly to select the correct RIL library: the Samsung GSM RIL library vs. the as-yet-known CDMA/LTE RIL library.
It should be trivial to build the same ROM for both devices: just use the right build files and the right RIL binaries. But the end product will still be two different ROM images that will have to be downloaded separately.

What? The Nexus S has seperate developer forums for the NS4G and the GSM version.
Yea. They can share the same QA and General forums. Perhaps even a general development forum for general tweaks and mods.

This. They use different RILs and different binaries for the same build. I don't see how a single rom could work for both devices nor recall any on the nexus s side that claim to.

The ROMs will be very similar, but you won't be able to use the same one on both models. At very minimum you'll have to use the Verizon network stack on the CDMA one that will make its ROM different.
It is a good idea to have a separate cdma developer forum just as their is in the Nexus S section. Keeping the cdma version of roms separate from the gsm version will save a lot of people a lot of trouble. Otherwise there's going to be a lot of bricking going on.

Will there be a separate section for the GSM and CDMA (Verizon) models of the Samsung Galaxy Nexus?
Is there a need?
Also, will the GSM roms/kernels etc. work with CDMA models?
Definitely need to be separate.

That's a good question. I haven't been on here that long (but lurking for a while LOL). It seems like it would a good idea. Although, the only difference in the phones is the radios so, I'm not sure.

if ROMs aren't compatible with both you don't want them in the same section.
no one knows if they're compatible though because we haven't seen the Verizon device yet. chance are they won't be. There will have to be some subtle differences at least.
Only identical hardware can share the same forum. CDMA and GSM arent identical, so we will be split up
As far as rooting and flashing go, how compatible are the ROMs? I'm assuming a GSM ROM wouldn't work on the CDMA phone, but are they equally supported? Do devs make ROMs that work on both devices? I don't think I've ever had a phone with both CDMA and GSM versions widely used.

Are the downloads separate or can the same ROM be flashed on both devices? Looking at the dev section, I don't see a whole lot of ROMs with two download links even though some of them mention the LTE version.

There are two Dev Forum links. One for GSM and one for VZW cdma phones only. Check the Verizon Dev forum for the cdma specific ROMS. The GSM came out earlier so the development is lagging a bit behind for the Verizon phone.
Please don't flash a GSM ROM on your Verizon device or vice versa. But, then, you're (hopefully) just asking if your favorite GSM ROMs have CDMA counterparts... In that case I can only suggest browsing the CDMA development section...

Ahhhhh, did not notice this. I added the original forum to my favorites so long ago, and I wasn't aware of its counterpart! Now things make sense.
I think our development fora should be linked with the other 7105 variants, there is significant progress towards CM10 and other AOSP in the AT&T forum.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2018411
But, since there are four (ours, international 7105, AT&T, and Sprint), the devs are scattered, when unity would breed much more success. Our accessories is already linked, how about a linked development (not just the unused developers only forum) or moving threads like this to the linked dev forum? Either way, maybe this will help bring attention to the progress that has been made.
As long as i get aosp before the verizon or sprint varients. Glad to know progress is being made.

This isn't and shouldn'tbe about first, besides once one 7105 variant has a working device tree, we all do.
I am trying to get an idea of what the differences are between the phones. From what I gather so far is there is the international 7105 and its variants which are the tmo att and sprints versions and they are all gsm? Then there is the 7100 international and its variant which would be Verizon and they are cdma? But I thought that sprint was cdma carrier so wouldn't the sprint be in with the 7100 version?
From what I understand the physical and specs are the same for all the phones and the hardware is the same except the radio difference between the two. so the software is the major difference. I know on my last phone the sgs2 the att and tmo versions were almost identical twins the two were able to use roms interchangeably without porting except for minor kernel differences. In the end the only problem was the rotation was messed up. and it was fixed by using a the kernel that was native to the device. Like if you used a att rom on a tmo phone you had to use a tmo kernel with it. and also finally someone came up with a flashable .zip fix for it. The .zip fixed the rotation and also the build.prop so that the right device was in the build.prop. So that is what I foresee here in this situation. It will take time but it will happen. I know that we got some real good devs on the tmo side I haven't checked out the other variants yet but I am sure they got some real good devs too. A phone like this was bound to attract top quality people ( and schmucks like me too) I would definitely like to see a dev only subforum for all the devices or even a forum it doesn't have to be a sub forum because then the info will be fragmented because which forum do you put it in tmo, att, sprint, international. I say make a 7105 variant dev only forum for them to talk and work out some kick ass stuff. Like AOSP and cm and of course the ultimate AOKP. And whatever else they come up with.
7105 = international LTE
Variants include:
AT&T
T-mobile
Sprint
Verizon
7100 = international GSM
7102 = Chinese GSM/CDMA dual SIM
Differences include radio hardware/software.

Coming from HTC since the beginning of my smartphone career... I'd don't know jack about Samsung, Odin, and some other differences but isn't there a way to compile roms without the radio lol? Thta would fix alot. I'm sure there might be various issues between carriers but it should work. I get cmda and dual sim models would be different but at&t model should be able to share. As someone meantioned before, once at&t subforum has their branch... we will too. It just seems that mods separated the forums to cut down on confusion for the end user but it hurts development collaboration between development and hurts the end users who read directions and don't flash stuff blindly. I'm just not used to seeing all this talent wasted by being segregated like this. Obviously there is a reason I'm not seeing... whether due to total incompatibility or something else. It couldn't be that simple, could it?! In the meantime, I'm gonna continue to read up on Samsung development and see if there is anything I can do to contribute... no matter how small or insignificant

there is a way to compile without radios, most of the ROMs do not have radios, or they are optional. Problem is since the radio hardware is different, the kernel needs to be recomplied for the 7105/variants. I will say if they get it on 7105 then AT&T, T-mobile, and Sprint should be easy to get working (sprint would require blobs, T-Mo and AT&T should work out of the box. Verizon would work only if they 1) crack the bootloader or 2) make a special k-sec version of the rom. There is a new dev section that crosses all boards so that should help the devs some. Basicaly if we get 7105 AOSP we get TMO/AT&T/Sprint and possibly Verizon.
I saw on g+ that they got a bootoble version of cm 10 on the note 2 I do not know which model and it was not a dd but it boots. That is a promising sign. We will have it soon. I cant wait. For now I am sticking with stock until a working aokp comes out. That is what I did with my sgs2 when we got ics. I didnt even bother rooting it till aokp came out.

To my understanding, yes, you can. I myself am on NOTEorious Prime rom which is based on the N7105 firmware but was made for ATT, all needed to do is flash the Tmo radio to get data and since I like to overclock my devices I also flashed the Note2Core kernel which will work with N7100 and N7105 roms; and on top of that I flashed an AOSP theme made by foreverloco since I can't stand Touchwiz. Overall, the UI looks clean just like AOSP (but of course, it ain't the same:crying but you can also see some elements of Touchwiz here and there...
I mean, this is just for now until a more stable port of cm10 shows up for our Note2, like you, I also like to have a clean rom and not layer upon layer upon layer.

Audio seems to work fine. You have to make 2 phone calls upon boot in order for calls to work correctly And in the beginning of a call it sounds really low so you have to toggle the volume during a call and the. It will be regular and loud again. Otherwise seems to run great. I didn't flash any modems or extra kernels besides updated one that was in the thread.
Hello guys, I am looking to buy the new Galaxy S4 and I have a few questions regarding how Samsung devices generally work. I figured I'd ask on this forum because of how popular and well respected this device is. If anyone could answer just one of the following questions, I would GREATLY appreciate it. Thanks!
1) Developer support: This is a biggie. I love custom ROMs, AOSP, Kernels, all the works. I noticed that the S3 is split up to multiple different forums based on carriers. Does this split harm the development community? Are some devices more support than others? Could you flash ROMs or kernels from different carriers or are you guys strictly locked to the T-Mobile forums?
2) Reason for the split: Just curious, why exactly is each device separate? Do they each honestly have different radios bands / hardware that makes them completely different? On my One S we could flash ROMs / kernels / radios based on either carrier or international with no issue either way; we also have just one forum.
3) Headphones: Coming from many HTC devices, I never had issues with headphone controls (play/pause, answer/hangup, mic, next/previous). Do Samsung devices fully support headphone controls and mic? I have a pair of Beats with controlTalk optimized for iCraps; they work well on my current device and was wondering the probability them working on the new one.
The reason why I ask here and not on the S4 forums is because no one has an S4 or any real knowledge of that device, WHAT SO EVER. You guys have the device and are sane! Thanks again!

1. Generally, yes. But, doesn't seem have affected the S3. Many of the ROMs are supported either by dev(or team) making multiple ROMs, one ROM that supports all, or AROMA installer to choose.
Could you flash other ROMs, kernels, etc? Depends. Some, yes you can straight up flash it. Others, absolutely not. Others, you may have to tweek the build prop BEFORE it's flashed. T-Mobile and AT&T ROMs are usually the two that can. But, you need to find out if it can. Most ROMs will say other carrier support in their name.
2. Different radios, this, that, carrier specific goodies. But, mainly to help with organization.
3. Yes.

As the the title suggests, I think that it would help make things less cluttered. Just a Nexus 7 LTE (2013) Android Development subforum, not a complete new device forum. Btw, I still don't understand the difference between Development and Original Development, so please comment if you do understand and do think that we need them both for LTE version.
I already suggested this to forum mod MikeChannon, he said they would consider it.
Thinking that the earlier we get it the less effort, problems and trouble it creates I am now putting up this poll.

Nexus 7 LTE different
The Nexus 7 LTE is different from Nexus Wi-Fi similarly how the predecessor Nexus 7 Mobile is different from the Wi-Fi model.
However, in the US, the LTE will run on the top-3: AT&T, Verizon and T-Mobile, and in multiple modes, so expect lots of questions about APNs, plans and such.
Another area of confusion will be the various VoIP clients people will use, like Talkatone, Sipdroid, CSipSimple.
I am not sure how it affects the forum disposition, but if you thought you didn't have enough impossible problems before, get yourself a shiny Nexus 7 LTE... There's a reason for it being late.

not sure what you are implying here, but i have one for almost a week now, it is awesome, and it is flawless. even stock 4.3 rooted is not that bad, i would like to have some options though.
It's been announced that all operator versions will be identical (ATT, Sprint, Verizon, etc.). That is something different from the previous N7. So maybe, just maybe someone should try ROM compatibility with Flo (Wifi). If that works out (minus LTE hardware drivers) we won't need a separate forum. And the development would be much better in total as a result of having way more devices....it'd be cool to pick a WiFi rom and flash it on an LTE, and then just flash the LTE module...oh the possibilities....
i tried different flo images on my deb n7 and it doesn't work. it's not booting, it gets stuck at the x. only way to make it work again was flashing an deb image again. so i think a sub forum for deb would be nice
Yeah, good idea. The old Nexus 7 has a dedicated sub-forum for the 3G version too. It makes finding stuff much easier.

I am referring to the Nexus 7 LTE having a seven-band LTE radio. It's the first device anytime, anywhere I know of to have such a complex radio.
I am also referring to the enormous possibilities this offers Nexus 7 LTE owners, which will compel them to try things never tried before. Take the tinkering with a Galaxy Nexus. Now triple it.

Note that there are two versions with different LTE bands.
The EU model is for everywhere outside the US, which would be 95% of the world's telecom. "EverUwhere"
So Google/ASUS launches the US model after the EU model.
Apparenly ASUS has a 16 GiB LTE model that Google isn't selling yet https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Nexus_7_(2013_version)#Model_variants

Actually, you can find this device in Europe (Germany and Italy, maybe Poland or Romania but I'm not sure).
And we wait soon this version in UK and France nearly.

And as you know you can request to open this subforum as N7 3G here: *** New Device Forum Requests ***
This would be a great idea. Keep the wifi only and LTE ROMs in different sections.

Good idea. Otherwise, I'll need to constantly remind myself to be mindful if the ROM or update is for the wifi only, or LTE.
Otherwise, another possible option would be to append the beginning of each post with a [WIFI] , [LTE] or [GENERIC] depending on which flavour it belongs to.
